Drew Brees still does not have a contract!

Hmmm...I didn't realize that. Still think he's not going anywhere. He's made his money. -
Bills signings & TT trade point to trade up
Luxy312 replied to Reed83HOF's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I really don't read into the signings all that much at this point. Chris Ivory is simply a backup at a position where we obviously don't need a starter. Odighizuha did virtually nothing for the Giants and the Bills definitively need another starter opposite Hughes now that Lawson is gone, unless someone strongly believes that Yarbrough is good enough to start. Vontae Davis is a legitimate starter if he can stay healthy. None the less, they get REALLY thin at that position after those two with no names like Pitts and Borders. Guys that I don't know if I've even seen them take the field. They haven't done nearly enough in free agency for me to read the tea leaves and suggest a move up is eminent. There's still a lot of holes to fill and many positions where they could use a serious upgrade, even after what they've done so far in free agency. -

Pipe dream at best. Saints either give him a new deal or he gets tagged. That simple. He's not going to hit the market. -
Any of the QB's would be a significant upgrade over Tyrod, so I would say all of the QB's. I'm not a huge fan of Dalton and think that Alex Smith just blew his proverbial you know what with his play this last year. Regardless, a WR isn't going to single handed win you games.

This thread is beyond asinine. Flacco is going to count about $24m against the cap if he's on their roster next year. He counts $28.8m if they traded him. Why in the hell would they trade him? Makes ZERO sense.

In your hindsight, 2017: go all out to win, or tank?
Luxy312 replied to boater's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
In the last 20 years, the Patriots have had exactly 2 seasons at or below 0.500. Tell me you wouldn't take that and I'll tell you that you're a liar. -

Luxy312 replied to boater's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Counter question. When have the Patriots tanked? They simply created a culture of winning. They won when their franchise guy sat out a year and had to play with their backup. Tanking, like many NBA teams are doing right now, doesn't accomplish anything other than getting used to losing. I think that the offense under Tyrod is still terrible, but glad that as a team they played to win. That should play out this year. -
New McShay mock mayfield & Rosen fall outside top 10
Luxy312 replied to 17 Josh Allen's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
McShay's mock is beyond stupid. He does something interesting, suggesting that Denver would take Keenum. Good job on that, but then he gets stupid. He doesn't address at all where Cousins goes, which he clearly MUST go somewhere. If Cousins landed in Minnesota (which he doesn't say), then what about Bradford and Bridgewater? Maybe one stays as the backup, but clearly they're not signing both. What about A.J. McCarron? What about the Eagles floating out the idea that Foles is tradeable? Then the Bills take a cornerback with one of their first round picks. Nope. Not going to happen. I see the need at DT and would not suggest they'll do anything else with one of those picks. If both Mason Rudolph and Lamar Jackson are there, I don't see any chance that the other pick isn't a QB, much less a DB. Should change his name to McStupid. -
Richard Sherman - 3ry deal with 49ers
Luxy312 replied to Reed83HOF's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think there's very little chance that he's a Buffalo Bill, regardless of what happens in Seattle. His personality does not fit with what the Bills are trying to do. They have completely purged themselves of the "me first" attitudes and wanna be divas. To boot, they signed Vontae Davis to be the #2 across from White. To boot, he's going to be asking for serious $$. I'll bet that if he does leave Seattle that he gets something in the range of $40m guaranteed with $14-15m/year on a 5 year deal. Just nope. -
I don't mind the signing at all. The Bills needed a better backup plan for McCoy than Mike Tolbert. The low YPC numbers don't really bother me all that much, in light of just how bad Jacksonville was at running the ball. The Bills weren't great at it either, which makes Ivory even more valuable as a receiver, which he's pretty good at. He'll be able to do more as a backup than what anyone else on the roster could do last year. He's not a huge expense, and the Bills are not moving on from McCoy anytime soon.

Beane: "I have no intent to move up or down"
Luxy312 replied to K D's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It's a perfect balance in terms of attitude. If you come out and say you're high on a QB, then you drive the price up when you actually try to move on draft day. If you say that you think this draft is really deep, then you drive down the value of the picks you have at 21 and 22. Those in the "Bills must sell the farm to get their QB" camp are assuming that there's a QB that's THEIR guy. Maybe there isn't. If you're a GM and have 5-6 QB's all as being potential franchise guys with no clear cut #1, why wouldn't you sit still at 21? There hasn't been 6 QB's that have gone in the first 20 draft picks in 20 years. Whether this is a smokescreen or the simple truth, I'm not sure I care either way. I personally don't see "Top-5" pick value in any of this QB draft class. When you start getting down to around #10, I'm listening. -
Rotoworld- Giants leaning away from QB @ #2
Luxy312 replied to Reed83HOF's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He's 3 years younger than Brady, so I guess the Patriots should be drafting a QB as early as possible as well. This is once again just your perspective. The front office for the Giants have already stated that they believe that Eli is capable of continuing to be their starting quarterback. I guess that's why they get paid the big bucks. LOL. -
Rotoworld- Giants leaning away from QB @ #2
Luxy312 replied to Reed83HOF's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm not so convinced, mainly because every single one of these QB prospects has issues. If I'm the GM for the Giants and had a discussion with Eli, and he told me he was going to play for a minimum of another 4 years, there is zero chance that I take any of the QB's with the #2 pick. They have so many other needs that I can't justify doing it "just because". I get that you're saying that YOU think that Rosen is a can't miss prospect. If I believed he was as well, I would agree with you. -
Rotoworld- Giants leaning away from QB @ #2
Luxy312 replied to Reed83HOF's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Based on what he did at the combine, they may not have the opportunity to take Barkley at #2. I think he's going to the Browns #1 overall and that they just come around with the #4 pick and take one of the QB's that's still available. Barkley is a once in a decade player where the QB's are not, IMO. -
Net turnovers is the single largest Corollary to winning and losing games in the NFL. There's are of course always exceptions. Based on every NFL game played in the last 40 years, if a team is +1, they win the game 90% of the time. If they're +2, that climbs to about 95%. +3 gets you to almost 99%. The single biggest problem pointed out by many with Taylor is that he's just not capable of winning games. He does little to capitalize when the defense gives him an opportunity to do so. I'm sure you could pull these metrics for many more starters, but if we simply look at the golden standard that is Tom Brady, we can quickly draw the conclusion. In 8 games last season, the Patriots were in the positive in turnover ratio. In those games, they were +10 in turnovers and +60 in total points scored. 6 points per turnover is not bad. The Bills on the other hand in 10 games were +20 in turnovers for only +44 in points scored. 2.2 points per turnover. Everyone saying that Tyrod doesn't lose games for this team is right, but he sure doesn't win them either. The Bills were one score winners in six games last year where they had a positive turnover ratio. That's pretty pathetic.

Bryant is a "me first" kind of guy. I would take a pass on him. Just another one of those guys with immense talent that lets it go to waste. Besides that, who's going to get him the ball? Our leading receiver last year was Charles Clay with 49 for 558 and 2 TD's. Even with the guys going to free agency, I think they still have enough targets for 17-18 completions and 186 YPG.
-
We don't know what the Bills plan is right now for the Quarterback situation. I thought for certain that they would get rid of Tyrod prior to the deadline and only take a cap hit of about $2.4m. In hindsight, my initial thoughts were a gut reaction to the 3 years we've gotten of a guy that's terrified of throwing to anyone that isn't wide open and waiving an arm in the air for the ball. With that said, I think that the Bills could be doing a couple of different things. Are they holding onto Tyrod in the event that they're not able to get the QB that they want in the draft (assumes they would try to move up)? Are they holding onto Tyrod with the plan to stay where they are, in the event that multiple guys they would consider at 21/22 wouldn't be available? Are they holding onto Tyrod as potential trade bait to a team that doesn't get their guy in free agency that also doesn't have interest in drafting anyone? Are they simply going to go into next year with Tyrod as the starter and Peterman as the backup? Whatever they are actually thinking or doing will play itself out as free agency settles. But for Washington's play with Alex Smith, teams are holding their proverbial cards tight to the vest, and will continue to do so until we get through the combine and into free agency on March 14th. We essentially have 3 more glorious weeks to speculate.
-
I like the thought process, but would add one observation. Any team that takes Taylor will have to be comfortable with a guy that is not going to win them games. He won't lose games, but he's not going to win them either. Candidate teams would have to have a top ten defense next year to be able to justify him as their starter.
-
To this point, I could see the Bills sitting tight at 21 and seeing what happens. Given the guys that should be out there and available and the fact that there's 6 QB's projected to be potential first round value, I can't fathom 6 QB's being picked with the first 20 picks. It could happen, but would be the first time in NFL history.
-
I may be alone in this thinking, but if the Bills trade up in the draft to "get their guy" and Tyrod is gone, then there you have your starter. Historically, it is few and far between that teams pick a QB even looking at the top-10 and then leave them sit on the bench. It's even less common for a team to swap their starting quarterback for a free agent or another player in a trade and then draft another QB early.

LOL have you heard Mel Kiper's mock 2.0?
Luxy312 replied to Pine Barrens Mafia's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I like much of your logic, but for the Giants. Everyone loves to say that Eli is basically done and his career is over. The problem is simply that the Giants organization is not saying that. Their head coach came out and said "Eli is our quarterback". Eli has said that he wants to continue playing. Why can't he play until age 40? There's other guys that have done it. Heck, Tom Brady was 40 THIS year and lead the league in passing. Given the fiasco of benching Eli this last year, I don't see the Giants drafting that way, when there's either Saquan Barkley or Brandon Chubb available at #2. Your logic is otherwise sound, and I see no way that the Bills will get better than the 5th QB (maybe 6th) on the board if they pick one in the first round. Another scenario that doesn't bother me all that much is the Bills getting Bradford on the cheap. When he can stay healthy, he's pretty darn good. Maybe he takes the "show me" contract like he did with Minnesota before getting hurt again. Then drafting the 5th-6th QB available isn't so bad for a late first round pick. It seems very unlike BB to move up to get the 3rd QB, unless he were somehow Buffalo's #1 QB target. If somehow this turns out to be the case, look for Buffalo to swap both first rounders and a second for Denver's pick in the first and possibly a later pick. IMO, it's very possible that only one QB is off the board at that point unless the Jets move up. -

I wouldn't trade a half eaten fish taco for Trevor spooge. Oops....spelled his name wrong. My bad.
