2005 NFL Salary Cap Figures
Losman-McGahee-Evans replied to Frez's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think Mike is an elite OT who had an offseason that was sucked up by a personal issue that is now behind him. I think it would be wise to restructure even if it means investing more money/years because it helps us build a better team. It's a risk I would take considering the obvious rewards this season. -
I just don't see us commiting anything to two TE's with torn ACLs who will most likely not play this year. I think Bubba Franks is an elite player at his position and GB has no way to keep him.considering their cap situation. We could steal him with a creative, front loaded contract and we have no one on our roster that compares to him as a player.
-
We're currently at almost 10 million under the cap. If we cut Bannan (225K), Haddad (225K), Lindell (507K), Prioleau (1.23M) and Teague (1.02M) that adds up to 3.207M which would put us at around 13 million under the cap. I think it's feasible to think we could sign Wahle for around what we signed Villarrial for (His cap number for his first year was a little over 2 million) and I'd bet we could grab Raiola for around a 3 million cap hit and Franks for around a 4 million first year cap number. That's around 9 million without anyone else restructuring which I think is likely. This leaves us with close to 4 million to work with. We'd have an offensive unit that would be young, lethal and signed for the 4-5 years and defensive unit to match.

2005 NFL Salary Cap Figures

If TD can Big Mike to restructure his deal we can get even further under. I think this is a real possibility as I think Mike wants to be hear long term and the Bills would like that as well if it makes sense financially. I'm not in the "Mike Willaims is a bust" camp obviously. -
They were 3 mil over the cap before today and my guess is that even with the release of Navies they are still right at the limit. If I was TD I would release Teague, Preiloeau, and Bannan and sign Franks to a big deal and go after LG Mike Wahle (GB) and C Dominc Raiola (DET) hard and make sure we re-sign DT Pat Williams. If we don't then we've got trade up into the first round and grab a DT and I would do that even if it means trading next years no.1. Could you imagine our offense? QB JP Losman.........6 02 224 23yrs FB Damion Shelton..6 00 262 32yrs RB Willis McGahee...6 00 223 23yrs LT LJ Shelton..........6 05 355 28yrs LG Mike Wahle........6 06 304 27yrs C Dominc Raiola...6 02 295 26yrs RG Chris Villarrial...6-03 320 31yrs RT Mike Williams.....6-06 370 25yrs WR Eric Moulds.......6-01 204 31yrs WR Lee Evans........5-11 197 23yrs TE Bubba Franks....6-06 265 27yrs That's a very young and very talented team that would have a 4-5 year run in them at least. Then we could draft depth at RB, CB and S as well as look for WR, OL or DL projects. Anyone else drooling?

Marcus Pollard is a free agent!
Losman-McGahee-Evans replied to Buftex's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Ummm....they cut him due to his cap number, not his perfromance. -
Who hasn't been an under-achiever for the Cardinals? They SUCK. My feeling is that this could be a change of scenery trade that benefits both players. Whether he plays LT or RT or even LG (If we tag Jennings -- not likely but an option.) this deal provides us with what a draft pick would not : an OL that can start from day one. This is an awesome trade.
-
That's my thinking as well but if we sign Franks then we've got pull of the Shelton trade and that makes us desperate buyers. If we can't pull that trade off then we're faced with drafting an OT in the 2nd or moving Mike to LT and signing a RT like Stockar McDougla of DET. It just seems like our offseason will hinge on this Shelton trade and I can't see us getting that done anytime soon.

My dream offseason and draft.
Losman-McGahee-Evans replied to Losman-McGahee-Evans's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think the Henry trade addresses the LT spot, and I think they'll have to address TE via FA since the draft isn't really deep at TE this year. I think its feasble to think they could shore up the OL via FA because of how important this will be in the development of JP. So all our needs should be addressed thru FA because of how critical they are combined with the lack of talent in the draft. We'll have to sign a back up QB and I believe we'll go the UDFA route for a KO guy who will be groomed to replace Lindell. -

We would only have one two TE's on our roster as both Ehus and Campbell may not return this year. -
Do the Bills gamble and tag Jennings
Losman-McGahee-Evans replied to Snorom's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
But what would that cap hit be? -
I would sure hope so but I just can't see TD signing another big contract unless we solve our LT situation first. I know we're working on the trade for LT LJ Shelton but I think that has got to be done before we make an offer because it'll tie up too much of our cap. Does anyone think we can do this before either re-signing or replacing Jonas?

Cedirc Houston is dropping as well. He'd be a solid pick in the late rounds. -

I think I go OL over K with the 2nd round pick and I would try to go the UDFA route. It sounds risky but to be honest its less risky than going with Lindell another year. -

I think Franks re-signs and we'd have to overpay for Becht and Pollard but I'd love to have either of them. I think Jones or Wiggins are similar but I believe Jones would be inspired on a winning team. Everyone underachieves on losing teams for the most part. To me he's worth the risk. -

I keep reading that Shelton is falling becuase of his 40 time. Same with Cedric Houston from Tennessee. I'd be happy with either of those guys or Sproles. -

Our back-up S will be a free agent signee for half the money and same talent level. -

My guess is that we'll take the best player available at CB, OC or OG and interior OL looks pretty thin this year. -

I think we can sign a replacement for Pierson for half that money and he'd be an upgrade. He's getting paid starters money to be a back-up so I don't feel bad about cutting him. As far 5 TE's I think you've forgotten that two of them are coming of torn ACLs and may not even play this year. I keep reading that Shelton is falling because he's closer to 4.6 than 4.5 in the 40. I keep seeing him in thr 6th round in mock drafts but I'd be happy with Sproles at that pick as well. Didn't NO already tag Howard? -

I think I read somewhere that he's Billish but was raised as an orthodox bad-assish. I think he's found the same religion as Jim Kelly and attend the Church of Winning.
