The White Tiger / Casey Therriault story
Dennis in NC replied to Donald Duck's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That's a very powerful story. If people take the time to watch this, it seems hard not to support this kid. It sounds like that "one punch" was not from him, but from the kid who died, and that Casey walked away before the beating started. I hope he gets a decent chance to play in the NFL. -
Buffalo News article James, you are confusing Potter and Powell here. Pretty easy to do. In the article, it mentions Shawn Powell in HS kicking off and sending the ball OVER the evergreens at the back of the end zone. Powell may be able to handle long kickoffs as well as punting. The way this kid studies punting is impressive, too. Greg Cater was either his HS coach or a kicking coach he consulted with (the latter, I think). He also worked with Darren Bennett on Aussie-style kicking. I really believe Shawn Powell will beat out Brian Moorman for the punting job this year. I am very excited about that possibility.

Hey, sobaboy, I am also a Buff State Grad and an ex Bell Aerospace employee. What eras were you at those places? I was at Buff State 78-81, at Bell 84-90.

Ha! Yes, indeed. I started as Dennis in OH, then became Dennis in MO, and been in AZ now for 11 years. Thinking about moving back to Ohio or Buffalo. Stay tuned.

SJ, I guess you have never lived in "Misery" or Mizzou-rah as some of the natives call it. It's like the South without the hospitality... Oh, BTW, my avatar is a pic taken from my backyard last June. Not a good time around here in Southern AZ.

trying to contact tombstone56
Dennis in NC replied to olivier in france's topic in Off the Wall Archives
I live 20 miles from the historic town of Tombstone, Arizona, but I don't think tombstone56 has any connection to the town. -
At the end of the video: Carder was #5 ranked LB (or ILB?) entering 2011 season. Estimated mid to late 2nd round pick. Pretty good deal getting Tank in the 5th round.

Raised in Kenmore, left in 1992 for work in Ohio, then Mizzouri, now Arizona. Thinking about moving back to The City of Good Neighbors...

I wonder if Ralph gave carte blanche
Dennis in NC replied to bladiebla's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Oh, I know about the generic meaning, the sort of "blank check" in this case. Just wondered what you meant, the long-gone credit card (which Ralph would know about) or if the OP's spelling was wrong. Pointless discussion, I know, but what the heck. -

Are you talking about the old credit card brand Carte Blanche? Like instead of handing over his checkbook, Ralph gave him the old credit card? Nobody seemed to grasp that meaning of your post. Just curious if that's what you meant, Billnut. -
Amen to that! And much thanks to eball and others for posting the interview highlights. I think Buddy and Chan did a masterful job on the draft.

Rd 7, Pick #25: K John Potter - Western Michigan

Hey, this is sort of "on topic". This UDFA punter Shawn Powell seems like a guy who could replace Moorman this year. You may want to check this guy out. -
I remember seeing an Eagles lineman Artis Hicks do that, probably a Monday night game. Unforgettable. I love the Zebrie Sanders pick, though. I don't think there was a defensive penalty on the Artis Hicks play, though.
-
Holy cow! It is usually pretty hard to get excited about signing a UDFA punter, but check this kid out! Very impressive stuff. 2012 might be the year for a new Bills' punter...

I was surprised here, too. But why do so many folks object to drafting a BURNER? I don't think Lee Evans had this kind of speed. He ran the 100 meters for NCSU track team, but did not let track get in the way of his football career. Just watch some of the Youtube stuff on TJ. You might feel better. They asked Les Miles what's the difference between Brooks and Claiborne. "Claiborne's a little taller." Ha! I, too, love this Ron Brooks pick! I love the whole draft. The kicker (another surprise to me) is a kickoff specialist, shortening the field for the defense.

LB Tank Carder was also a kicker in high school. I think he may have done some long kicks and kickoffs at TCU (I'll have to check on that). Well, not quite. Here's the link: Carder boots FG -
I think what you are saying is that "I wish the Bills had drafted more guys that I have heard of." The Bengals had 2 first round picks. That sort of helps get "names". Seriously, you gotta be shi77in' me that you don't think the Bills did well in this draft. If you feel that way, you don't seem like a very savvy football fan. Maybe you're just young. I don't know. But you should be pretty damn satisfied with what the Bills have done. Of course, everyone has an opinion.

Rd 5, Pick #147: LB Tank Carder - TCU
Dennis in NC replied to SDS's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Hey Nick, read that NY Times article on him. It's an amazing story. He was named "Tank" as a baby, was BMX world champion at age 9... He's a "can do" kind of guy. -
RD 6, Pick # : G Mark Asper - Oregon

Wasn't he the guy who did CPR and saved a man's life at the restaurant before the Rose Bowl? Asper Found it! -
It seemed to me that Jaguars panicked after the Bills took CJ Spiller. It seems Jax just panicked and took Tyson Alualu, who I thought may have been their 2nd round choice and was the next guy on their list! It seems absurd that a team would not have a fully ranked board of all players, but maybe Jax screwed up again. How good is Alualu? Was he a 1st round (top 10) prospect?

I find it amazing that these guys we have been talking about for 3 months are all falling our way: Tank Carder, Zebrie Sanders, Nigel Bradham. How many times have we seen those names bandied about here on TSW? Very cool we got so many of them.

I am ecstatic about the way the draft has gone. Glenn is a guy I hoped we could get by trading down to #20 or so. Ha! Anyone who dislikes the TJ Graham pick should watch some Youtube videos, especially his visit to Philly for a nice interview. This kid's dad is a track coach who has coached Olympians. Seems like a nice, level-headed young man.

G, why not?

RD 2, Pick #41: OT Cordy Glenn - Georgia

Yeah, sorry, I bit on it already. Stupidity is hard to ignore sometimes... "Before ye shall pass over the bridge, ye must criticize these draft picks three..." Geez, more trolls. This clown is really going to love the TJ Graham pick. His mom will have to drive him to the Peace Bridge to end his misery. Good to hear that NoName has checked in with Jamie Nails, though.
