Devin Thomas is going for a visit in Chicago Friday.
Dwight Drane replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think Chicago is serious. There may be a run on WRs from #20 and on, so Buffalo is looking good by trying to get to 17 or 19 with KC and Philly. I don't think the Bills are convinced with Thomas, so they will trade down and hope Chicago takes the pressure off of them so they can grab a guy they want. I can see them moving up into the 1st again with the added KC pick and a 3rd. My guess....1)Malcolm Kelly 1a) Antione Cason 2) John Carlson They all fit the mold, and they all fill needs. -

Very true......there is an injury concern, and Edwards lifted weights in the offseason and added 10 lbs lean mass. His delivery is going to come from a slightly different angle now, and that worries me. He'll eventually get there, but look how Tiger Woods went to pot after adding all that upper body mass. -

Actually....I will. Trent Edwards has Doug Flutie's football mind, minus the cocky prickiness. The good news is...Edwards is 6'4" and has some pepper on his throws. If you put Flutie's brain in RJ's body.....you have a Hall of Famer. Flutie knew that...and that's why he was a bastage. If you want to rank Bills QBs since 1973...it goes like this: Kelly Ferguson Flutie Bledsoe Reich Edwards Everyone else Edwards is currently the 6th best QB the Bills have had in the past 35 years, and can move to the 4th best by let's say.....week 6. I would say there is better than a 50/50 shot that Edwards makes it to #2 by the end of 2010, since you need to show a little longevity. If there was place to wager, I would bet that Edwards is still in the league 10 years from now barring a career ending injury, or an early retirement of Trent's chosing. I wouldn't wager that JP is still in the league in 4 years. -

I am with you 100%. I don't understand how so many fail to see how much more under control Edwards is than JP, or about 70% of the other QB's in the league. His control of the huddle, game management, pocket feel, timing routes....just a smart kid. I also love how excited he gets when the Bills make big plays. If he was an emotionless egghead, I would temper my expectations....but he has outdone Favre on some of his TD giddiness! Even when he made big mistakes.....HE MEANT to make those mistakes. What I mean by that is he just doesn't scramble for his life and throw balls up for grabs, or throw to Lee Evans in triple coverage.....when Edwards makes a mistake, he made the decision to throw it to that spot and it didn't work out. It wasn't panic or poor risk management...they were either bad throws, misrun routes, our just the wrong decision at the time. I have full confidence in Edwards that he will think twice before throwing short outs at the goaline and before he wears gloves in the bad weather again. Too many people take the Losman thing wrong. Trent Edwards has a special skill set that cannot be taught like Bill said. He also is athletic enough and has an accurate arm with some real zip on it within 25 yards to make his upside just about unlimited. While some may feel that he didn't outplay Losman on a whole last year, to do what he did as a rookie on a banged up team projects Edwards as a top 10 QB, if not Pro Bowl QB by the time he has as many games as Losman under his belt. It isn't Losman's fault. JP has two advantages on Edwards....he can scramble better, and throw the deep ball with more authority. That is it. There are certain guys that works out for...Vince Young, Favre to a point, Randall Cunningham.....but the list of classical pocket QBs that win with smarts and accuracy first, is 10x as long. I don't hate Losman, and I will agree that he hasn't been groomed in the most ideal manner. My 100% support for Edwards is pure risk/reward basis. Is there a chance that Losman will outplay Edwards when we look back 15 years from now? Sure. There is also a chance Dwayne Wright will outplay Marshawn Lynch...but I am not willing to let my team be the stage for auditions. I have seen enough from all involved to make a valid and wise decision. -
Bills @ Dolphins Road Trip - Help

Thanks....I thought that's where many stayed. Not only do you have the laid back bar scene right on the beach...but a few miles up Los Olas you get the more commercial bar/food/shopping district which is pretty laid back as well. -
Just got my seat upgrade approved!
Dwight Drane replied to Rubes's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think the Bills are going to have a good year with ticket sales. I just wanted to add a few seats in a cheaper section to have wiggle room and they have nothing on the aisles available in the lower bowl. I was pretty surprised. This feels like it is going to be a fun run, and the 12th man is going to make a difference again. I'm going to have to start training my liver by June since I sense much love in the tailgate department this year. -
Bills @ Dolphins Road Trip - Help
Dwight Drane replied to MRudney's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Have Fun! The area of the stadium isn't great, so you will probably want to get a hotel somewhere else. If you want to be on the beach, there are some decent places on Lauderdale beach that others here have stayed at. There are plenty of places on Miami beach, but good ones are expensive. If the beach isn't a key, then there are plenty of chain hotels for decent prices in the western suburbs of Lauderdale. Miami fans show up late, so from 9-11:30 AM, the stadium lots are filled with Bills fans. I had a car park next to me, and a guy got out that used to work with me up in Buffalo. Usually park in the lot right off of the Florida Turnpike exit for the stadium...always has the first 4 or 5 rows filled with Bills fans. Russ Salvatore used to always have a party, but I think it was a no-go recently. You will probably see others on the board start to make plans, so you could almost throw an impromptu party of your own by the time the game rolls around. There are tons of tickets through scalpers usually, but if you have a group of people, there should be tickets through the ticketmaster site. You might be able to find better seats on EBay as season ticket holders sometimes only go to a few games and sell the rest. Sometimes you can get nice club seats with a face of $250+ for $50-75. They are a nice option if you don't want to bake in the sun, and want to root the Bills on with the least chance of a fight breaking out. Since Miami is so bad....you should have plenty of time to weigh your options. -
1) 2006 Season opener vs New England.......2 huge penalties, one on a first down catch on the edge of game winning field goal range...since he's had so many boneheaded penalties, it was either an unsportsmanlike, or a block from behind, 5 yards behind the play. 2) The Tennessee Two Step......yes, I didn't think it was possible, but Robert Royal covered the entire End Zone in 2 steps. How someone can fail to land in bounds with nobody covering them, and has 10 yards to do it, I'll never know. 3) Please don't make me look through every game summary! The point is, Royal makes BONEHEADED mistakes at crucial times, while he never seems to make a play when needed. I've watched this team for 3 decades, and the only people that came as close to frustrating me were Chris Burkett and Ruben Brown. Brown is an all-pro, and Burkett at least could make some plays to offset his faults. The best asset Robert Royal brings is by staying in the backfield to max protect and chip. There was a reason Washington was laughing when we signed him to that contract. I'm not one to rip players......but I swear to Jesus I would choke this guy if I was on the field with him during some of his debacles. I have more faith in JP.

JP has the same chance of starting at QB that Mitt Romney does of getting the Republican nomination. If Edwards or McCain drop dead, then the job is theirs. IF....Brandon said that, the guy is just doing what he feels to pump up an asset that he is trying to move. Could JP still be on this roster in September, possibly. Somebody better tell Turk that JP might be the starter, because he may want to scrap that 3-step, quick decision and accurate offense he was installing last week. I'm sure my Ex-wife could turn into someone else's soulmate. That being said, I don't want her or JP within 50 feet of my team's balls. -
The Bills need to make it happen
Dwight Drane replied to Cornerville's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
For all those saying that Johnson is a lockerroom cancer, or talks too much....did anyone happen to catch any taped interviews from a Mr Lee Evans last year? Evans WORDS during the season were much more harmful to the team than Johnson's ACTIONS. Johnson has a beef with Cincy now because he is setting up for one last big contract, and Marvin Lewis has been throwing Johnson under the bus as an excuse to why he can't control a room full of 53 men. I don't think Johnson would score a 100 on the Harvard mental stability scale, but the way people get painted with such a broad brush is crazy in itself. Johnson might actually be the type of guy to loosen up the offense to the point where they come out with a little attitude. The only guy on the offense that does that is Royal...and he doesn't have the bombs to back up the rhetoric. The problem is, we need WR help, and the draft may be iffy in that regard. Now it is possible Johnson has gone a little Brittany Spears, but if he is added to the right environment where he feels some love...I think he would be a huge asset. Hell, for a 2nd round pick, I'll volunteer to be his big brother and take Ocho and Marshawn for the weekly Dave+Buster's trip. We can have popcorn...and milkshakes...and win some fuzzy animals out of the crane (I'm awesome at that). The city wins a SuperBowl and we all live happily ever after. If he doesn't work out, call him Bucky Brooks and cut him next season. -
Maybe Royal should go to the CFL so he'd be more of a Redzone target. I know it's tough getting your feet inbounds within 10 yards. Royal has singlehandedly cost us 3 games, and would have been 4 if Reed didn't catch that ball in Washington. He has talent, but his mouth is running so much, he can't even hear himself think.

Schopp & Bulldog fanning the flames
Dwight Drane replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
To expand on that thought........the Sabres had a 5,000+ person waiting list for season tickets going into last season. When the Sabres required $100 to fortify your place on the list, the list shrunk to 500. If you use that sort of model, you can see that there might only be half of a stadium at best filled at this point. -

Dwight Drane replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Here is my guess......the NFL had 2 weekends reserved, the 7th and the 14th, and nobody had a quality beat on the team involved. There is a good chance that the 100,000 reported this week is VERY INFLATED, as nobody needs to put down a penny as of yet. Behind the scenes it might be setting up that there was real worry if they were able to sell tickets. If it was a slam dunk, they might have thrown the 49ers to the wolves. In reality, it is quite possible that the Rodgers/Wilson duo is going to have to court the Buffalo Bills season ticket holders to buy the package. The Bills know Miami is always a big out of town draw for Bills fans, and they decided that the Toronto venture is too big to fail, so they hedged their bets by putting Miami up in order to get a sellout. The ticket sales can happen quietly to season ticket holders, and the general public will never know that this was almost a disaster. We should find out soon. If Bills season ticket holders start to get mass mailings to buy Toronto tickets, then that is the case. If not, it was just poor foresight and a slap in the face to Bills fans. -
Not so much that Early was tall, but he was just a smart guy who could get position on you, but he never really turned into a go-to guy. He was nice to have around....but wasn't super flashy.
-
Sweed looks like he may adapt quickest to the NFL of the 4 guys mentioned, but he probably will always be a #2 kind of guy. I see Sweed, I think Quinn Early...I see Kelly, I think TO. I see Thomas......I don't know what to feel. Will he fit into a pseudo hurry up or west coast offense? I know Evans and Reed should work well in it, and there is a shot to bring in Carlson who would adapt easily......Thomas seems to have a little more "project" to him.

Statistical expectations from Trent Edwards this season
Dwight Drane replied to Ramius's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I know that is asking a lot, but I really believe Edwards is 20% Peyton, 40% Brady, and 40% Pennington. We just need to hope it's a good blend of all 3. Turk and Modrak already sat down with Jauron at Applebees. They ordered him a Fuzzy Navel and told the waitress to keep'em coming. They then went on to tell Jauron that Edwards is going to run a modified no-huddle and that the Bills are drafting offense with 4 of their first 5 picks. After drink #3, Jauron signed off on it. -

Join the club.....I don't even count the World Series because of the strike. The Bills need someone to grow a Sid Bream 'stache -
I still would make a move to get back into the end of the 1st to draft him. I would trade up to #20 to be safe, of if they are hoping to see him drop to them in the 2nd, and it gets closer and closer, it would be hard for me not to trade a 4th to move up 6 or 7 spots. That is if the Bills like him as much as I do. The only good thing out of this all is that there is still potential to get a superstar type WR, and still pick up another starter type at 11, sort of like last year with Lynch and Poz. At 11 now I can see them go CB or Guard, unless thet love Devin Thomas. This whole thing with Kelly looks to be more mismanagement from the start. His agent probably lowballed the usual guys, and now you see what you get.

I just looked up who the agent is....and it's a 29 year old guy named Chad Speck. The only other client I see listed to him is Albert Haynesworth, and Speck works out of Tennessee. The agent is the real clown here. He set kelly up for failure. What good is an agent if he touts a bunch of BS, then can't even get the drill run on the proper surface? A pro agent would have never let Kelly run and let him get picked between 15 and 25 instead of pushing him back too early. From what another poster put up in the other thread, they had to kick the agent out of the workout today. Note to Kelly: In gambling for a 5 yr $20 million contract, you just gave up a 4yr $10 million contract and are looking at a 4yr $5 million contract. Fire your agent today, and get representation from a traditional slimeball instead of some kid that has no idea what he is doing. I think I could pass the Tennessee Bar Exam after consuming 2 pitchers of beer.
