The Next Pandemic: SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19
plenzmd1 replied to Hedge's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Wrong. You said , and I quote” I do not get my news from Hollywood”. The news was the article, not what James Woods thought of it. But what has evolved over the last 5-10’yeats is you have been conditioned to take journalist/advocates reporting as the news, not the advocacy that is , so you see James Woods as some kind of news/ thought leader. .. I could care less than a rats behind what James Woods thinks. I care what Nicholas Wade says, a respected science writer. James Woods retweeting his work and adding his opinion has no bearing on Wades hypothesis, zero. you should really read the very well balanced article, and not worry who brought it to your attention. It’s called intellectual curiosity. -

I actually read the article and did not dismiss it cause James Woods tweeted it. You chose to ridicule it based on the messenger. Plain and simple. Speaking of simple... -

Hmm, I suppose you prolly like to get all your news from CNN, or such fine publications such as the NYT, Science, or Nature. oh hey, look at the authors bio! More from Nicholas Wade Follow I'm a science writer and have worked on the staff of Nature, Science and, for many years, on the New York Times. nicholaswade@yahoo.com but no, in typical fashion you just to lazy to read detail info, especially in for that could bust your narrative. wallow in your ignorance if you choose, but information and learning from smarter people than you is a really neat thing to do! -

The Next Pandemic: SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19

I believe it is categorically true, but even if not the amount of kids that have died from Covid is much less than the flu every year. So if we gunna wear masks for Covid, may as well wear them every year October -April -

Not 1 child, and I mean not one, has died from Covid unless they were severally sick with something else before contracting Covid. Hate to see these kids continue in masks when there is no good reason why -

This sentence cracks me up. Lets load up on the appearances, not worry about actual transmission! Did you know that if you drink beer and eat a tub of popcorn for an hour, the covid knows you are eating and drinking will not disperse the aerosols into the air for that hour? And after 16 months of being told the most deadly part of this virus is asymptomatic spread, and that the incubation period can be as much as 14 days. glad to know the theater of taking temps makes some dolts somehow feel safer. -

Why? Been proven in many studies transmission generating from kids in schools is next to non existent. Transmission occurs between adult staff..both teachers and non teachers. https://www.npr.org/2021/05/21/999106426/schools-are-dropping-mask-requirements-but-new-cdc-study-suggests-they-shouldnt If you believe masks work, teachers and staff that are non vaccinated maybe an argument could be made to wear masks? Is it not about the science after all ? -
who said anything about adults being present?

Combating imaginary racism with actual racism??
plenzmd1 replied to Unforgiven's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
It was by far the biggest factor. No slavery, no Missouri Compromise, no worry about states rights, no two Kansas governments, no John Brown ...it all comes back to slavery. Having said that, Lincoln was an avowed racist that did not fight the Civil War to abolish slavery, he fought it to preserve the union. His position evolved from colonization of enslaved people to Liberia to slowly let slavery die out over a 40 year period to Emancipation of Slaves as more manpower was needed to win the war. -
Trust me, you will regret saying you want to meet both @Heitz and @Augie, I am the rose between two thorns with those two present. I cant wait to see @Augie's wife face when he tells her she needs to be up at 5 AM to get to lot by 6am...and yes BTW dear, with traffic we would never attempt to leave that lot before 6PM..so get ready for a full day!!!!!!!... Damn, to be a fly on the wall when that info drops!

Lets see no one needs masks everyone needs a mask 60-80k deaths herd immunity about 60% vax no70-80% no 90% I don’t really think we should think in terms of herd immunity mask after being vaxed essential, not theatre i wore a mask after being vaxed for show. This dude is a total joke. -

do you think anyone, and i mean anyone, has any sympathy for someone who gets sick/dies of covid now that vaccines are eligible for all and supposedly are 100% effective against dying? Most sane people realize now it is individual choice..as is being fat, drinking too much, smoking, doing drugs etc. Your choice, your outcome. I highly doubt you see any one losing sleep over a 52 year old white non vaccinated male dying from Covid. Yes, we will see social justice warriors making excuses for minorities who refuse to vaccinated just cause racism . White dude refusing to get vaxed, arsehole endangering humanity. Black dude refusing to vaxed..give em a break, to dumb to understand how society has changed and how safe this vax is ...but nah. that's not racism. -

The Next Pandemic: SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19
plenzmd1 replied to Hedge's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
here is my point. All the social distancing, surface disinfecting, mask guidelines etc were based on what was known about influenza. And that's fine, mistakes were made early and policies formed that were in error..all okay, this poop was new after all. I dont blame Fauci or Burke for saying looks like top end we will have 60-80K deaths, just like I don't blame Trump for hoping it will all go away by last Easter. But then as @LeGOATski correctly stated, everything about this pandamic became political. People that could read and had an objective mind and were not blinded by political affiliation understood masking helped, but only effective masking(n95 ) and only if worn 100% correctly. Those same People understood the numbers behind schools, the joke of 6 feet particularly in schools and why it was based on bad science... They understood the numbers in states like Texas and Florida vs NEW York and CA...none of it mattered. Trump was bad, his followers were evil. anything they suggested had to be 100% wrong. Masks , social distancing, disinfecting became not tools to fight the virus, but political theater, political statement...for both parties at the extreme.. and continue to be so. Its a damn shame, and man are we paying for it now. -

I am not saying every country that implemented "social distancing" ( i say lockdown) is a dictatorship, but stripping away individual freedoms and relaying on non scientific data( case counts and CFR and IFR in red states vs blue) to make policy leads to an enemy that is just not there.. The lock downs, masks , school decisions, governemnt wlefare became exactly what you said, political decisions that were over reactions to a president so many disliked and despised, including me. If you doubt me,look at the sheer millions of posts of twitter saying " I don't care whether wearing a mask is effective or not, i will wear it just so people don't think i am conservative or MAGA. You don't think that is an over reaction and politicized? You dont think that kind of thinking extends beyond masks? Add to that overdoes deaths up 20%, discussion about what this lost year of in person learning will do to our children, violent crime up dramatically in our cities, inflation running rampant, asset inflation that is only widening the wealth gap in this country based on policy decisions that do not reflect the reality of whats happening in the country.. ...and it all adds up to way more than " wear a mask and go about your daily life". -

plenzmd1 replied to JaCrispy's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
First, the CDC itself said that IT IS black and white...you vaccinated, no need to mask or social distance. There is no ambivalence there, no suggestions..just black and white directions! Second Fauci suggested normal that would take place in years time..and that was his guidance. So the country at standstill for another year while the CDC said move forward FOUR , yes FOUR days later. Cautious might have been "i see us back to normal Memorial Day..or really cautious July 4""...no he said a year later!!!! Listen, i can tell you ,like many others, are left in a conundrum here. You placed your blind faith in Fauci as infallible, you placed your blind faith that once Biden was elected, the CDC would only follow the science, as you suspected the CDC was politicized under Trump...and now? well now both of those cannot be true based on the events of the last week... You can argue all you want Fauci and the CDC are on the same page...it is ridiculous to say 4 days and 1 year are equivalent... and as i say just proves you are not willing to look at facts and utilize critical thinking to make a conclusion or criticism . -

This thread is about Fauci. He said a week ago today we might be approaching something close to normal in a years time. 4 days later CDC said go back to normal. if you think they are singing from the same songbook, God bless. I think any rational , logical , person would say one of them has to be making a big mistake. I am not sure why or how you can draw any other conclusion. if he is this far off on his predictions and how he views the state of the pandemic , why should his voice carry any credence? or if he does carry Credence and the CDC made a decision beard in politics, why in the world would I ever trust them? one of them Is flat out wrong. Why they are both sacred cows and you are scared to criticize one or the other tells me this whole thing is just about politics to you, and critical thinking has left the building. -

“ Close to normal in a year” and if you are vaccinated go back to your normal life with no masks except in planes, healthcare settings etc less than 4 days later” mean the same thing to you?
