  1. See, that's the spirit! While we're at it, I'm growing less and less fond of this Lynch character.
  2. Relax, completely tongue-in-cheek.....but: 1 11 Leodis McKelvin DB - not ready at CB, not good at his supposed super-talent (KR) 2 41 James Hardy WR - timid, raw, lost 3 72 Chris Ellis DE - can't get ticks on ineffective, injured DL 4 114 Reggie Corner DB - Inactive? Thought he was better than McKelvin in preaseason? 4 132 Derek Fine TE - Injured, now back 5 147 Alvin Bowen LB - Injured, not coming back 6 179 Xavier Omon RB - Inactive? 7 219 Demetrius Bell T - @sshole father 7 224 Steve Johnson WR - Hit-n-run, blamed Marshawn 7 251 Kennard Cox DB - Didn't make it
  3. Oh I distinctly remember thinking that Uggla had screwed us over. Of course, at the time, I was happy with the prospect that our biggest problem would be only 3 home games in the WS.
  4. I think they are both ridiculous, but I'd switch that around. Ending a meaningless game in a tie is pretty stupid and condescending to the fans who paid to see it, but basing something as significant as championship home-field advantage on the outcome of an exhibition game is beyond forgivable. Especially when a team gains the best overall record over a 162-game season. Wouldn't it be great if the Bills played the Pats in preseason this year and lost and then despite having a better record, ended up going to Foxboro to play them in the AFC championship?
  5. Goodell probably wanted to fine him, but he feared Vince would dive at his knees as they stood up to conclude the meeting.
  6. I would have liked to see Kelly do this once, too. AWESOME! That's the Jimbo I love. Nice, I guess we can add him to the list: People Who Respect Belichick - Moron Patriots Fans - Bill Belichick People Who Don't - Jim Kelly *new addition - The rest of the free world
  7. I'm tough on his recruiting because I think his record speaks for itself. However, I wonder if this would apply to lower level talent. Do you expect UB to pull the occaisonal *blue chipper* away from a school like Ohio St. or just a regular player (3 stars) that they were also interested in? I have my doubts that Ty could do the former, but I think he could do the latter. The players he does convince to come fall in love with him, so he obviously has a terrific rapport with some. I just think (and this is purely opinion) that he didn't fight hard enough to convince the 5-star guys to forgo a place like USC or Michigan. I think he could be very successful at a place like UB where he was out of the direct spotlight he has been thrust into for the last 7 years.
  8. Well obviously we aren't going to be able to convince either other since it can't be proven either way, but I disagree. The start time of 8:30-8:45 gives more then enough leeway for fans to adjust post-work day plans. Additionally, I'd estimate that 75% of the ticket holders were in the vicinity of the stadium by 5pm. It was like a semi-holiday here. Furthermore, despite what Buck and Senile McCarver said, the local weather reports gave warning of this far in advance. And finally, if the game had been called in the 4th, I would have had no complaints about "wasting Hamels." The Rays would have "wasted" Kazmir which is just fine by me. Plus at that point Cole had probably thrown less than 50 pitches. A potential Game 7 start would be doable. The game resembled nothing like baseball by the 5th inning and it should have been called before that point. Selig was not in a no-win situation. He had two undesirable choices, but he chose the wrong one.
  9. Which of my two suggestions was ridiculous? The one you agreed with or the one about moving a start time up an hour?
  10. Fair enough, I just used Guy because I believed he was the closest thing to a consensus. I guess the larger scope of my point is that was Tasker's impact on special teams greater than any punter who ever played and all but one kicker? Again, devil's advocate...I'd vote him in.
  11. I'm already dreading his acceptance speech. The thought of that man speaking out loud for multiple, consecutive minutes is both scary and slightly unbelievable, IMO. They might need to hand out translator headphones to the entire crowd like at a UN meeting.
  12. I mentioned this in another thread, but is Tasker, as arguably the best ST specialist of all-time, more deserving than say, Ray Guy, arguably the best punter of all-time? Along the same lines, Jan Stenerud is the only kicker to ever make it. I'd say vote him in, but just food for thought...
  13. 1. Not that it matters much, but the Cowboys received the 7th rounder from Detroit, not the other way around. So they gave up a 1, 3 & 6 for Roy & 7. In my opinion, you can cancel out the Dallas 6 (low) and the Detroit 7 (high) which basically leaves you with Roy for a 1 & 3. So to answer your question, yes, I would most likely make that trade. I think Roy is a stud. 2. He's a legit #1 and he is getting better. True, he has built a reputation as a one-trick pony, but things are changing rapidly. He has also gone from a complete waste of a warm body in the blocking department to a very willing, and decently effective blocker. The more he and Trent work together, the better he will get. He's not on Stevie's level, but he could get there. 3. Randy is the far better WR right now and it's not even close. But he is a strange cat and I don't trust him. I also like the idea of a 27 y.o. Evans vs. a 31 y.o. Moss. This one is a toss-up, but I'd stick with Lee.
  14. A-FCKING-MEN! I'll admit, those wild scenarios of the last 2 years outlining how we could sneak into the playoffs were entertaining and exciting. But I could take a few years without the heartburn (and resulting disappointment).
  15. Disagree that he messed it up? I'd like to meet these people. The only thing more ridiculous than allowing an all-star game to end in a tie was his inexplainable overkill response to make future World Series home-field advantages dependent on its outcome.
  16. 1. Absolutely 2. Yeah, for the most part. 3. I think Lynch is far from 'ordinary,' but I will say this: I believe that several factors have led fans to overrate him. His personality, his relentless style, his draft position and still some lingering "He's not McGahee" feelings. Time will tell if he will develop into an elite back, but in my opinion, he's not there yet. Regarding 4 and 5, not saying I agree with either, but why is an ineffective backup higher on your list of importance than an ineffective starter? Very few teams win Super Bowls without their starting QB.
  17. No doubt....today was definitely the worst weather day of the year. The rain finally cut out in northern DE a few hours ago. I know Selig said that he would never have called it, but I can't imagine that game going on 3 more innings if there had been no tie. But who knows? It was a joke he let it go as long as he did...
  18. Not something I'd admit to in public... That game was a joke. It wasn't baseball. I still can't believe Upton was able to turn the corner at third in that pig slop. I'm glad they called it, because a default win is no way to end a quarter-century championship drought, but Selig had other options. He could have pushed the start time up. He could have called it in the 3rd or 4th before the game lost any semblance of the sport being played. He had a remarkable stroke of good fortune when Burrell's throw came in a foot high and a second late. And had Rollins cleanly fielded that chopper earlier in the inning, this series is likely over.
  19. Great man, high character, average coach, terrible recruiter. Ty Willingham left ND's football program better-off as a STUDENT-athlete body, and worse off as a football team. He was simply not good enough at bringing in top talent and he did not have the coaching prowess to make up the difference. What I always thought was a strange paradox was that he was ineffective as a recruiter, yet his players absolutely loved him. His firing my senior year tore the team apart. One of my good friends on the team was so pissed that he decided to forgo his redshirt senior year and enter the draft. Had he stayed, his presence could have been the difference in '05 when our only pre-bowl losses were a pair of heartbreakers to Mich St. and USC. Brady Quinn said the same thing...he was asked what type of coach he hoped to get as a replacement and he responded a clone/twin of Tyrone. I wish him nothing but the best and I hope he settles into a lower-level program where he can help foster a strong academic and high character football environment while still being successful as a head coach. He was simply out of his league in the upper-echelon of college football. He had a good run at Stanford, sold his stock high, had a miracle first season at ND and then continued to fade into mediocrity or worse. I regret that his name will always evoke some negative feelings for me due to the end of his tenure at ND. The perception will always be that ND kicked him to the curb without a fair shake. And in terms of the racial connotations that inevitably come up with that discussion, it is a shame the Notre Dame will always be known as the school that unfairly fired a black coach instead of one of the few premier college football programs that hired one. Godspeed, Tyrone...I'm sure you will land on your feet.
  20. Thanks for the regurgitated talking points. You've done Mark May proud. Is your argument really that ND should have kept Willingham? Really?? First, your knowledge on this subject is superficial at best. You claim Weis won only one 1 game last year. Look that one up again. Second, look at how wonderfully "Raw Deal" Willingham has done since November 2, 2002 (the day the magic bubble season popped). I can't imagine why ND decided to jettison such a unique coaching talent. Third, Weis might not be the answer, but he has this team stocked with more talent than any ND squad since Lou's title team. We'll see where this one goes. Finally, if you are looking for a strong contributory factor towards why we won three games last year, check out the incredible '06 and '07 senior classes that Willingham left us with.
  21. The talent is almost there (it might be already just too raw) and is growing. This time next year there is no reason why ND shouldn't be able to compete talent-wise with any team in the nation. Re: Weis...I'm not sold either. The guy is a terrific recruiter and obviously has offensive talents. But something has been missing. The next year or so will tell...
  22. How about "D - Notre Dame because I'm not an idiot who irrationally parrots the Willingham raw deal account and continues to attack a school who released a coach who was simply not good enough to be successful in big time I-A"? The Huskies are terrible...Ty, while not a terrible coach, continues to show what an incapable recruiter he is. That team is bereft of talent and if I was Jake Locker, I'd be cursing the day I decided to sign up.
  23. :worthy: Or I guess since I drafted him too....
