Looking At The Renogiations, etc....
bartshan-83 replied to Bill from NYC's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
d waq...I understand that you think TD screwed up by passing on Kendell (I don't think many here would disagree), but to use that one situation over and over to describe TD as being cheap is pretty weak I think. He has been cheap on or undervalued needs and positions (K, G) but he has opened the check book on many cases and brought in some high priced talent. -We lost Cowart (good call on TD since the injury really did ruin him) and he replaced him with one of the biggest FA MLBs available, Fletch. -We needed LB help, he signed arguably the biggest FA of that year, Spikes. -We needed CB help, he signed one of the bigger FA corners, Vincent. I mean he has scimped (sp?) here and there but I think using the Kendall case 10 times to label him as cheap is unfair. -
there is a reason Modrak is still in Buffalo..

The Lost Art of the Player-for-Player Trade
bartshan-83 replied to bartshan-83's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
sh-- I missed a few obvious ones. I guess I am leaning more towards the lower-level trades. I meant more like players who are dealt for 5th-7th picks instead of proven veteran. I think those kinds of subtle trades are really interesting. -
Fake-Fat's post on Travis Henry made me think...Why is it the NFL is only major sports league in which the player-for-player trades have all but disappeared? It is such a common practice in MLB, NBA and the late NHL but you never see it anymore in football. Everything has to be for a fuggin draft pick. It seems most teams are much more excited about gaining an additional 7th rd pick than a veteran. It just seems to me that with the wide variety of schemes and cases of players simply being in the wrong situation, many teams would welcome a swap. The last P-f-P trade I can remember was John "The next Barry Sanders" Avery for Marcus Nash. Why did these trades suddenly stop? Is it the complex cap implications? GMs belief that they can do more with a low round draft pick of their own than someone else's veteran backup? The desire for younger players? I'd like to see it make a comeback. I think there are tons of players out there with all ranges of talent that could make big splashes if they got a change of coach, scheme, city, etc. Anyone else?

I know this wasn't addressed to me, but I'll second that. In fact, I was in the middle of arguing with someone about how average (IMO) Nate had been on PRs since his rookie year when he busted his first big one (many more were to follow). I'm glad I was wrong.

What happend to Tim Couch??

Hard to believe that in this year alone Ken Dorsey, Craig Krenzel, Chris Chandler, Jonathan Quinn, Sage Rosenfels, John Navarre, Chris Simms and 2 different McCowns all STARTED friggin games in the NFL but somewhere Tim Couch is sitting at home watching the games on TV. He can't be that bad can he? -
One of my friends works at Hooters out here and a few of us are gonna go down tonight and it jogged my memory. Whatever happened to the hooters chick you saved, the compensatory visit and ever important pictures of said visit? Haven't been around much since before the holidays so maybe I missed it. Whas the deal?

The WR I miss and still think could have been very effective was Jeremy McDaniel. His play never really got that bad, it was just one day he didn't start. And then Reggie Germany took his place and then he was never to be seen again. Cavil was sick at UT though.

It didn't take TH long to run his mouth
bartshan-83 replied to Thailog80's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm glad there are some out there who can still show some respect for a football player as a person. Want him here or not, it is disgraceful to treat him with such animosity. ALL of you have screamed Travis' name with joy and celebrated something great he did over the past couple years. Now not only do you turn on him like a pack of wild dogs, you do it with venom and hatred. I am embarrassed to be a fellow fan when people act like this. Watch out Willis, you could be next. -

What a laugh this thread is. TH wants out, he waits until AFTER the season to say so publicly. Problem? Oh that's right, a bunch of "reliable insiders" on this board somehow know for a fact that Travis was bitching every chance he got when the media wasn't around. If you hate the guy so much, just say that and be done with it. He can't fuggin win. IF he complains publicly, he's a POS. If he doesn't then he was OBVIOUSLY complaining privately so he's a POS. With fans like this, I can't imagine why he would want to start anew. So he thinks he can be a starter in this league, how dare he think this? The great counter-argument to this theory is that he wasn't good enough to beat out a practical rookie coming off knee surgery. As if Willis is the worst starting RB in the league. Just because he couldn't beat McGahee, doesn't mean he can't be #1 somewhere else. Do you people really think that Willis ranks so low on the list of starting NFL RBs? But that is all a matter of opinion. The truly disturbing part is the total lack of humanity that "fans" show for the players they watch every week. What happened to the days when players moved on from the team they were either wished luck or fans would shrug their shoulders. Now it's "he's a piece of sh*t. He's F'ing retarded. He's a whiny B word. He's a cancer." (Oh and the irony of BF accusing someone else of having Gump-level intelligence). I wouldn't want to play for a team who's fans turn on their players with such vindictive hatred. Would you actually walk up to someone you did not know and call them a piece of sh*t or a whiny little B word? It's sad. Especially someone who was hailed as a warrior with a huge heart just one year ago. -
Who wins tie-breaker between the Jets and Us?
bartshan-83 replied to daquixers's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm a little confused about all this. I have heard that we win the tiebreaker with the Jets if we both finish 10-6 because we will have a DIVISION tie breaker on them. But does that just mean that we would be given the Division title if we were 1st and 2nd? Does what place you finish in the division (beyond 1st) really trump the Wildcard tiebreakers? I would think that the wildcard would take precedence, but I don't really know. I have heard how each scenario works so I understand the rules behind them. I am just wondering if anyone really knows if this is the case. It seems the basis for this decision (that we have the tiebreaker) is set soley on the fact that we would win the AFC East 2nd place tiebreaker. But has anyone confirmed that the division order trumps wildcard TBs? -
Muhsin Muhammad a FA after this season

Cut Moulds, you BETTER bring in someone who is: A.) Damn good B.) A Veteran You want this offense to take another "Peerless Price" step backwards? Things are clicking now. Evans will eventually become a #1, but he is benefiting from Moulds. Take him away and now Evans draws the doubles and someone else has to put up Evans-type production. Moulds has been a loyal, fiery warrior for us. Do what it takes to keep him. BUT if you don't, there better not be a ND-Urban Meyer situation brewing where we look like jackasses because we cant get the replacement we wanted. -
I agree. I don't like the fact that we are deactivating TWO DBs. Especially with Nate's mysterious shoulder injury. Say he goes down...Now what? Shift Troy back to CB, Baker to FS, Thomas nickel and Wire/Prioleau dimers? Also, Dorenbos.....who long snaps with him out?

There are 3 weeks left, 5 teams in contention, 2 spots. As of now, who would you vote gets in? For those who need the reminder: Buffalo 7-6 - (@Cin, @SF, Pitt) Jacksonville 7-6 - (@Green Bay, Houston, @Oakland) Baltimore 8-5 - (@Indy, @Pitt, Miami) Denver 8-5 - (@Kansas City, @Tenn, Indy) NYJ 9-4 - (Seattle, New England, @St. Louis) I say Buffalo and Baltimore, both at 10-6.
