You know, as others have said, this is kind of blessing. I mean, you could spend time with her during the week, but then have at least one weekend night where you know its just you and your boys. I loved that when my girl was 20, but now that she is 21, it IS a lot of fun to go out with her. Having said that: I would not feel "wrong" about drinking in front of her even if she can't. Just don't get wasted. You can get a little buzz going and have a great time. If she really has a problem with you wanting to throw back a beer or two when you go out to eat, then she's not being fair, IMO. And why not throw parties or go to parties so she can drink there? (I'm assuming she does like to drink, yes?) And finally, BiB nailed it. Get her a fake.

While I am eagerly awaiting 8pm, I checked out NFL network to see if maybe there was a pregame/coaches show or something. I caught the end of an hour-long special on Barry Sanders. Just some thoughts: -The highlights are even more dazzling then I remember. It was like when I saw the Michael Jordan IMAX; my mouth was just hanging open the whole time. -I love TD celebrations, maybe more than most. But I had forgotten how Barry would always just flip the ball to the ref after each TD. I think doing a dance is cool and fun and if you score you deserve it, but watching maybe the greatest RB in the game's history just routinely toss the ball to ref each time is a much, much more powerful statement in my mind. -Steve Sabol asked about Emmitt breaking the record and he gave what I thought was an amazing answer. He said he thought Emmitt was definitely someone who should have the record. So Sabol obviously counters with "But you could've had the record." Barry calmly looked at him and said "Yeah and Jim Brown could have had the record." I realized that most people obviously assume it was Barry's record because he could have played longer and gotten it, but it is less common to attribute the same credit to Brown. Amazing class and moves that will never be duplicated on a football field. It was a pleasure to watch him play. Now....on to the BILLS!!!!

I posted this awhile back about Simon: I have a small Corey Simon story that kind of rubs me the wrong way. I worked for the Eagles as an intern after high school and I was involved in their community outreach program, the Eagles Youth Partnership. I became friends with one of the girls that worked there and I would ask her stupid stuff like what are the players like, etc. She said the only one she couldn't stand was Simon. One particular incident stood out in my mind. She said that they had a memoribilia signing day once and Simon and one other player were the ones there. It was a catered event as well. Anyway, the food didn't arrive on time and Simon asked when it was getting there. They told him that they were making calls and it would be very soon but they had to start the signings. He flat out refused to sign a thing until "his" food arrived. His quote was something like "I ain't signing a damn thing till I eat." Eh probably means nothing, but I really have never wanted him on the team since then. I think he is a great player and I guess I would welcome his addition to our defense because I'd bet this type of story is probably applicable to many players that I like. But I dunno...would be kinda hard to root for him.

After all, how long do you think nicknames like "The Bargaining Jews" or "The Murdering Italians" would last? Only the ironic Irish could be so naively honest. Well I think that the SD/NYG reason is a perfectly acceptable reason to dislike Eli (that's why I don't like him). BUT, I totally agree with you in the context of the article. He was noting JPs positives as a football player and then contrasting it with his disdain for Eli. Unless that disdain was football related, then I don't really think it serves any purpose in the article other than to state a random opinion. I just tend to see hissy fits as more meladramatic and whiny... JMO...

Nice, bro. Always good to hear what the other side is seeing as a change of pace. The writer did seem a little too excited about Aaron Rodgers' ability to exploit our stud LB, Wendell Hunter.

Honestly, I would love to see him on the outside, opposite of Evans, with Eric back in the slot (as per Moulds' suggestion a few weeks ago). I think Moulds is a perfect slot receiver. He is way too fast for any roaming LB and way too physical for most CBs. I think he is at his best when he is cutting across the field and has a chance to pick his running lane for YAC. Plus, as Eric also noted, if they do that then it will leave one of them single covered because LE will be seeing double teams on the other side. I'd say lull them to sleep with a few short patterns to Moulds over the middle, then send Roscoe to the endzone. I swear, maybe I'm being over-optimistic, but I really believe this team is a QB away from being amazing.

How was it a hissy fit? I think it was about as forward, direct and non-dramatic (is that a word?) as you can get.

Starting tonight, at 8pm, we will be watching Buffalo Bills football every weekend (save one or two) for exactly 6 months to the day. GREAT time to be a Bills fan baby!

Damn brother....I went to my first JB show last summer as well. The first weekend of school, me and my 3 buddies organized a trip of about 15 people to see him at Chicago. The four of us drive down there with the truck full of brats, beer and two 5-gallon Gatorade coolers filled with margaritas. We had tables, chairs, stools, games, booze, food, grills, captain hats, hawaiin shirts and we thought we were the sh--. I tell you, we looked like a bunch of fvckin rookies. As I'm sure you now know, to call Jimmy Buffett fans well-prepared is a distrubingly vast understatement. Those people came to party, and it was the best day of the year.

I agree with a lot of what you said. I guess my main point is that I think the way the system is setup is unfair. I agree that the players know what they are getting themselves into, but it's funny that no one says that the owners/GMs know what they are getting themselves into. It's like you say: "So therefore, in my opinion, deal with and live up to it. Can' help if your agent sucked...etc." I think this IS the common viewpoint of most fans. However, no fan ever says that about a GM. When's the last time a GM signed some player to a contract that was more than he was worth and then in year 2 or 3 when he wants to cut him, fans say "You signed him, you knew the risks, so live up to it." Or someone says "Damn GM is being so greedy, why can't he just pay the player what he agreed to?" That never happens. The animosity in these situations is always one-sided. Teams can go ahead and cut players when they want, with no backlash, but when players holdout, usually it's an issue. I understand your point about the signing bonus sort of countering that. But still, even if a signing bonus is $15 million, usually that is a fraction of the total contract. I think all sports should have incentive-based, guaranteed contracts. That should just be the only thing a GM accepts. That way you dont have these lazy POS baseball players who steal their $15 mill/year and then mail it in for 6 seasons and you dont have a bunch of NFL players who are constantly trying to re-value themselves. I think you have to guarantee players money for the life of the contract, but you also have to have a check just in case they don't perfrom (for whatever reason). I think that would save a lot of headaches in all sports.

Well, IMO, it's not so cut-n-dry. As another poster mentioned, his deal is not guaranteed. When a team signs a player to a contract, aren't they then obligated to pay him every dollar they agreed to? Shouldn't they be required to honor the contract in it's entirety? I assume you think it's okay for a team to cut a player whom they feel is overpaid and therefore not honor whatever remains on his "contract." To me, that is not fair, but NO one complains about that. There is never any debate on ESPN on whether or not it was okay that a GM cut a certain player. If contracts were guaranteed, then holding out would be ridiculous, IMO. You don't see a lot of NBA players holding out, do you? And to address you point of comparing it your job, again, I do not see a similarity. I'm sure at your current job, you did not agree to work for your employer for a set amount of years. Would I be correct in assuming that if you received a better offer from another company that you would be free to leave your current job and take that offer? If that is the case, then you have freedoms that these players do not. Sadly, sometimes the only leverage they have is to refuse to give their services until they feel they are being adaquately compensated.

It actually was painful to dredge that up. But also strangely therapeutic....
