  1. I see a player the Bills thought enough of to draft in the 3rd round, & by the way many reports had him going in the 2nd. His rookie year was derailed by his mom dying & the responsibility he took on with his younger siblings. Here was a young man, not even a senior in college, on his own for the first time, to accept that responsibility is VERY mature in my view. Last year when given the chance to play, I thought he did well. I would hate to see the Bills give up on him to soon.

    Very well said. I agree.

  2. Non guaranteed contracts. Every other major US league has guaranteed contracts. That's why.

Contracts have changed. When you hear about a new huge contract, say Clements $80M deal, a certain % is now guaranteed. I think in Clements case it was $24M

  3. I was thinking the same thing. It kills me how set Ralph is in his ways. There are a bunch of things he can do to ensure that the Buffalo Bills stay in Western NY but he has too big of an ego to do that and doesn't want his wife to own the team for some reason.

His wife has stated she does not want to own the team. I'm sure his family wants to sell, cash out and move on. Can not blame them for that.

  4. Unless a new deal is reached before 2009, the 2010 season would be uncapped. I wonder how much Snyder and Jones would spend? Would Ralph open the wallet?

There are other provisions in an uncapped year. The big one is that it would take 6 years to get to UFA. Players will not like that. Also, teams would get 1 franchise and 2 transitions tags per year. Another things players would not like. These 2 things would slow the increase in salaries and player movement. Maybe this would not be so bad. You could keep players you draft for at least 6 years.

  5. It was actually called a number of years ago in a Bills game. I don't remember the year -- I think probably 1988 or 1989, and I don't remember but it might have been against the Dolphins. If I recall correctly, Jim Kelly was hit and fumbled the ball, but the defender was penalized when he grabbed Kelly and prevented him from going after the ball. It's a little hazy now, but I remember hearing the call and I couldn't believe it. It's the only time I've ever heard that call made.

1988 Monday night at Dolphins. I was there. Shows my priorities in life that I remember this....We won 31-6.

  6. I have been reading about how WR Evans is a vital cog to our offense. I am under the impression that we are slowly evolving to a smash mouth offense. Evans is going to demand/command a monster contract based on other WR contracts. We have the biggest offensive line in the NFL or darn close to it. We have big RB's. We have fullbacks that as far as I understand are going to be blocking machines. Viti could be a battering ram for Lynch and we drafted Oman for short yardage situations. We drafted large WR's with drafting of Hardy and Johnson. Do we let Evans go or do we franchise him? My only question is our TE situation.

    Your thoughts?

You have to both run and pass the ball well to win. Evans is needed.

  7. Linkage

With more than a handful of players coming off injured reserve, another eight returning from offseason surgery and 18 rookies there were a lot of players lining up in spots they had not manned in a while at the Bills first OTA workout Monday. Buffalobills.com breaks down where some of the more interesting names of note were positioned as the voluntary offseason sessions began.

Ok - we're even with the Peterson/ Lynch thread.

  8. Forget about consistent, he is not durable. There were questions going into the 07 draft ab out his durability issues. I really believe had he been relatively injury free in college, he would have been a top three pick.

He did go at the 7th pick - Not a big drop from #3.

  9. Peterson had 4 games under 50 yards. Peterson averaged 3.4 yards per rush in his last three games.

Lynch had zero games under 50 yards. Lynch averaged 4.2 yards per rush in his last three games.

When Peterson is hot he's REALLY hot. But when he's not he's REALLY not. Lynch got better as the year went on. Peterson got worse.

It's not as easy a comparison as some of you think.

Peterson is going to have horrendous year this year too. He jinxed himself by saying the dreaded words 2,000 yard season. Every time a RB says that he has a horrible year.

Peterson played with a torn ligament in his knee at the end of the year.

  10. what did Clayton say that bothers everyone? Ralph is not a hero and his senility could cause this team to leave. Why will Ralph not put a contingency plan in place for this team to stay in Buffalo. He is greedy! Why is the stadium named after him and not a company willing to pay for it? He has a huge ego. Buffalo Bills fans are ultra sensitive. Clayton has been a fair journalist at ESPN, unlike Chris Mortenson (who is a Tom Donahoe appoligist.)

Give John a break, he has been picked on all his life!

Ralph is NOT senile. I can't stand it when people pick on others because they are old. I'm sure you will upgrade to a double-wide when you retire. You wish you had 1/2 of his brains at his age. How much money do you think one of the many Fortune 500 companies in Buffalo will pay for naming rights? Also, Erie County decided to name the stadium after Wilson.

  11. Nothing, I have been told that there is no problem, and no incident, he did nothing wrong and this is a non issue, believing anything else makes you a moron and an idiot who "assumes" things

I originally said that he should probably be looking into some counsiling on anger management if this is true because pulling a gun (which theres no proof he ever did) on anyone unless its a life or death situation and the other person has a weapon is not something civilized people do in an arguement. But I have been shown the error of my ways by the upper echelon members of this board that my views were wrong because there never was an incident and nothing needs to be done.

Isn't it up to him to get counseling? Since he is not under contract can the Bills force him to?

  12. From Peter King's article:

According to NFL playing-time documents, the average third corner in the league played 57 percent of his team's defensive snaps last year.

I had no idea it was that high. Not only that, we play in a division with the Patriots. Any discussion regarding our need for more than two starting corners is now dead. 57% of snaps for what used to be called a dime corner? Wow. I'm surprised. We might as well be discussing whether or not we need 3 starting LBs.

    http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/writ.../11/mmqb/1.html

Most fans realize the need for 3 good corners. The term for the 3rd CB is nickel, not dime.
