USA TODAY power rankings out....
Adam replied to Tonawanda Troy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Redskins are mediocre, maybe a bit better than us, but I don't want to argue which bad team is better. Gibbs will prove to be a huge loss, just like he was last time. He kept a team that was in horrendous salary cap trouble on the fringe of playoffs. The Texans are for real. Matt Schaub is for real as well- in a season or two, he will be compared to Matt Hasselbeck, you can bank on that. He has been a great under the radar guy for years in Atlanta- they wish they still had him. And having Andre Johnson makes him more dangerous. They have stacked their D-line and that gives them a team identity- something to game plan for when you play them. I tend to agree about the Broncos, but they have a bunch of new D-lineman, two of which didn't play last year because of injury, and they O-lineman they drafted should fir their offense like a glove. Question is, do they have any weapons on offense? If the D-line comes together, their secondary could make them lethal....if not, they are a 7-9 team. If Derek Anderson plays like he did last season, the Browns will have to hope the hot streaks far outweigh the cold streaks and that Edwards, Winslow and Lewis, as well as one of the best O-lines carry him again. He made numerous bad decisions that took them out of games. If we had the supporting cast they have, Edwards or Losman could look like all-pros. The Cardinals are a joke, have been for years. I wonder if they point the finger at Wisenhunt after this season, like they did with Green a couple years ago. -
And it looks like ESPN is trying their best to sweep it under the rug as much as possible. Wonder if that multi-million dollar contract with the NFL has anything to do with it. John Clayton's nickname shouldn't be "The Professor" it should be skippy. Always nice to have those impartial journalist-types taking your side, isn't it?

The Cardinals and Redskins are jokes- although Gibbs managed to get the Skins into playoffs quite a bit. Tennessee missed the playoffs this year, but Fisher has had them in contention or in the playoffs. The Browns made the playoffs a few years back and won 10 games last season- when is the last time we have done that. The Bills are on the right track, but need more depth along both lines and they need to upgrade center and RT. Not to mention, they have to pick a QB and stick with him- and it would help if it meant not putting that QB right on the field. They exposed JP to a lot of failure because they got impatient with Bledsoe's shortcomings and started him too soon. I see no difference in them giving up on JP and staring Edwards. Frankly, the Bills haven't been good at developing young players, and can't afford the free agent route. Don't expect a ton out of Edwards, Hardy or McKelvin this year. Things take time. I am not even sure what to expect out of McCargo- IF this ends up being his first year as a starter. Be realistic in your expectations, and realize that t he division probably won't be as soft as it was last season. -
Top of the Draft Positional Budgeting Trends
Adam replied to AKC's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I say the blown draft picks on QB's and bust of Mike Williams set us back horrendously. We might never recover completely -
He was a project when we drafted him, and played earlier than we wanted because of injuries. He had limited experience at CB prior to the NFL and was drafted on potential. I think he sticks, but I won't lose sleep if he doesn't
-
Which basically shows the importance of a third corner AND a third receiver.
-
This is the result of years of bad drafting. Being a great coach doesn't always translate to a winning record. It really depends on where you are, and what you have to work with. Look at Levy before the Bills and Torre before the Yankees- they were not different coache, they just had better players....they ALREADY were great coaches

Some more Chad Chat..for those who want him
Adam replied to stuckincincy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Looking at our game against Cincy on NFL network, Evans is having a huge game, despite being the only outside threat at WR and having a supposedly incompetent QB. The Bengals have a former pro bowler at QB (for what that means) and multiple threats at WR. As I said before, Chad Johnson is a lesser version of Lee Evans with a bad attitude and a big mouth. -
All I expect is him to be a complementary WR to Evans for 2-3 years. After that, if he reaches his potential, Evans may be the one complimenting him. All depends on how the QB develops, if we keep Evans and Lynch, and if the line and defense continue to improve.

Don Beebe/Other Random Forgotten Players
Adam replied to lukesquared's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I thought he had the potential top be top five. He had better hands than Thomas Smith, but not an Int guy either- he stuck to WR's like glue -

Kirby Jackson was a very solid corner who just got the job done- not a pro bowler or anything like that. Carwell Gardner and Nate Turner were decent fullbacks and very good special teamers Yonel Jourdaine seemed to have a ton of potential before the knee injury Marlo Perry was an excellent cover line backer before Benji Olsen intentionally ended his career with a dirty hit Ken Irvin and Marlon Kerner did an amazing job at corner as rookies in 1995 David White played very well in 1995 at OLB as well -

Our line wasn't great, but our left tackle was a stud. I sure hope he recovers from the injury and returns to form. If he can stay healthy, he's a lock to make the wall of fame -
So you would prefer them going to a far away place, like NY and Miami did last year. This is a smart way to avoid that

All this jibber jabber about a gas tax vacation
Adam replied to Adam's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Its my understanding- and thats not to say I am right (I never claimed to know much about economics), that after a few years, it would impact prices. We really need a long term solution, not a band aid to increase somebody's popularity. I am very concerned about the cost of Deisel (sp) fuel. I figure that will drive up the cost of everything -
Let me get this, Silly Hillary and McCain Super Fast Fries want to eliminate the gas tax for the summer.......if we can get rid of that for almost 1/4 of the year, how important was it to have the tax in the first place, and why am I paying $3.75 for it now? I say keep the tax, and let the money continue to go wherever it is now, and lets go up to Alaska and get ourselves some oil, like we should have a decade ago

Buffalo Bills top 10 plays - 2007
Adam replied to bigbillsfan12's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It all depends- did he score 8 TD's and cause five sacks and 3 interceptions by not running a crisp route? We have a young, developing QB and a couple holes on a line that is getting better. If he is going to play WR, he has to play the position correctly. I see the smae things in him that I did when he played at Miami, except that you can't get by just on talent at this level -
Well, we took a project in the first round. David Garrard took five years to develop (not saying that Losman is as good). You don't get instant gratification in this league. If thats what you want, watch MTV, not football.

Adam replied to bigbillsfan12's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I see him as similar to Cleveland's Josh Cribbs, who also isn't a very good WR. I know the physical talent is there, but you can say the same for Rob Johnson. Sometimes the ability just doesn't translate. -
JP should just be getting on the field now. He was drafted as a project, but started in year two because the front office listened to a drunk bunch of fans. We should have kept Bledsoe and left JP on the bench until he was ready. Now we are making the same terrible mistake with Trent.

Tasker was a very good special teamer- and look what happened when he started playing offense. Probably shortened his career by a good three years. Parrish is one of the best return guys in the league, but he is one dimensional as a WR. Why ruin a good thing by asking him to do more than he is capable of? -

He's a very good return man, but thats about it. I didn't like him coming out of college, and I don't like him as a WR
