  1. OK, maybe we aren't really addressing the problem. It isn't who plays QB or coaches- its leadership. You can't win without leaders in key positions Playerwise, who is a leader? No QB can claim this since Kelly. Bledsoe came close, but after our one good offensive season, Donahoe blew up the offense. No other QB since Kelly has been allowed to become a leader. Evans and Schobel are good players, but I don't see them as leaders. Peters is our best player, but you seldom get a Kent Hull type that can be an OL and a leader. Clements wasn't before he left, but Winfield was either there or on his way, and Donahoe let him go- same for Pat Williams and Ted Washington. I see Jauron as a leader, and thats why I defend him. Players will run through walls for him, which they wouldn't do for Mularkey. Players buy into what he asks them to do- case in point is the turnovers forced against Dallas. Bobby APril may be one as well. Still, if the coaches end up being your only leaders, you end up having to outscheme everyone in order to win games, and that won't get you far. Both Losman and Edwards have showed leadership potential at times- and a command of the huddle. Barring injury, we have to stick with one, and let them make the team theirs. I don't care if Edwards throws 10 picks in the first two games- let him make his mistakes. I think Poz has the potential, but he has to prove himself first. This process may take a few years, but we won't turn the corner and make playoffs until it happens.
  2. I have to disagree. It takes time for a QB to develop. He never should have been in there last year.
  3. Glad to know Jauron is my buddy Where are you getting two missed blocks by Lynch- he had more than that. A lot more than that. As far as it being pathetic not having an audible system....try telling that to Norv Turner, one of the most successful coaches of this generation. He doesn't use audibles. Our line isn't good. We have 1 great lineman, 1 good one, one developing one, one below average, and one terrible one. Until that changes, we will not have much of an offense. You don't have to like it, but thats how it is.
  4. Krazykat- this may be the most insightful post I've seen out of you so far
  5. No, it was average. If you want an outstanding move, rent fracture- that was outstanding
  6. So you are saying that Levy was a good coach with good talent, and a bad coach with bad talent........that makes him like everyone else!
  7. OK, this is laughable. Marv Levy was a terrible coach that just bungled everything that Polian gave him.....right. He was a Hall of Famer, and that is acknowledged by him getting voted in. We had serious flaws in that team- a QB that struggled with reads and no true NT, which is shown by how teams ran on us in those superbowls. Hey- I have an idea- lets get a new head coach, and trade Peters, Losman and Edwards for Brett Favre. That will fix everything!! Change for the sake of change- that will keep the short attentioned fans buying tickets!
  8. Peanuts and biscuits made me feel much better about the fact that they overcharge
  9. While I wouldn't say I have no faith in the offensive line, I do have to agree that they were a bigger weakness than some people want to admit. Falling back on claiming one of the best OL's in football or that the line has improved doesn't cut it. Until the offensive line is a strength, the offense will remain a weakness. I wouldn't say I have no faith in Edwards either. I think he showed a lot as a rookie. I feel he will take a step back this season, as many QB's do in their second year, before resuming his progression. I like his ability to read a defense, which will probably get better as the line and surrounding talent improves. I think defenses will respect Hardy until he shows he doesn't deserve it, but they will still treat Evans as our primary target. I wouldn't mind making a trade for Michael Jenkins as well- who has fallen out of favor in Atlanta. While he hasn't done much there, there hasn't been much at the QB position. At the very least, he could be an upgrade over Reed/Parrish and provide another large/skilled WR. I thought he was a very productive player coming out of college
  10. OK, now play the role of defensive coordinator for a moment: Your opponent is playing a rookie QB, who has one real threat to throw to- an undersized WR who's main strength is going deep and struggles over the middle. The other tools in the passing game are this: A solid slot receiver who is forced to play outside, a punt returner who doesn run routes, a couple practice squad players and mediocre tight ends. Add that the center is very soft and that the right tackle is a step slow out of his stance. Add in that the running backs have trouble stopping blitzing cheerleaders. OK, not to put this together, the middle of our line is a disaster because of a center who isn't goood enough and our right tackle is slow. This leaves us vulnerable to the blitz- factor in that nobody in the backfield picks up the blitz and we have a QB that is still adjusting to NFL pressure. The line problem almost negates having the best LT in football! Would you back off?
  11. I agree with your point that if he is THAT bad, they can put a DT on him and he still won't do anything. Even as a rookie, I don't see him as being that bad though. I don't think moving the WR's around will hurt us all that much- Evans may be short, but he is pretty talented and can handle wherever we put him. Our offense probably won't be much better than last year, but if they make a few steps in the right direction, that is acceptable.
  12. Last year, Schobel showed he can play the run- but his focus on that seriously cut into his pass rush. Until he proves otherwise, he is a guy that can do one or the other, but not both. You have to stop the run and rush the passer well to be elite. At this stage of his career, I don't see him as improving much, either. He is, by far, the best we have at DE though
  13. No ADD......I just don't think the plot held together too well. I did like the end though- it was pretty interesting.
  14. The action was good, the special effects were good, but it was a boring movie. Early on, I was just waiting for it to end. It had a good, thought provocative ending, but most of the movie could not hold my attention.
  15. How many people reading this laughed? Sorry, but if you want to take McCain to task, then get on the case of everyone that laughed at the joke as well. People like stupid humor nowadays.....Will Ferrell will be out of a job when that stops
  16. The problem isn't how the people on the left feel about the detainees. The problem is US. We expect a higher standard out of ourselves than we do of the terrorists, but we don't back up our words with actions. In essence, we become what we swear to fight against....at least for about 8 years, we have. Thank God that Reagan never lived to see this garbage. Whether or not they have the Writ of Habeus Corpus is beside the point
  17. Yep, fun to watch Shrub make the left miserable........and the right, and the middle, and the inside and outside. Its like having another Jimmy Carter....wonderful
  18. If it is a trick play, you won't use it more than a couple times a season at most- you don't want something like that to become a staple of your offense. We actually don't have a staple play from what I have seen, and that is a problem. Everyone keeps saying trick them and be innovative. There isn't much in football to be innovative about- you run or pass. The good teams are predictable, but still are effective when the opponent knows what is coming. And Jauron has been known to delegate to his coordinators- he doesn't suck the life out of anything. He isn't a micromanager
  19. With the addition of Mitchell and Pozluzny at LB, I think we will be solid at that position. The secondary should have depth and should be solid as well. While I know everybody wants to think that Stroud is the cureall at DT, I am not so sure. I think he will be an improvement over Triplett if healthy, and McCargo and Johnson give us two solid DT's as well. Schobel is a very good, but not elite DE, and unless Ellis is a steal, we have little else of consequence at DE. What will ultimately decide the effectiveness of our defense is how long the offense forces them to be on the field.
  20. Don't forget that he is a rookie WR. I don't expect a heck of a lot out of him this year. Not to mention that he has a very inexperienced QB throwing the ball to him. On thing I wouldn't mind seeing is Hardy and Reed lined up side by side with Evans right behind them- snap the ball, toss it to Evans, and let them block.
  21. Roger Goodell better get on his horse and destroy the evidence
  22. I think Reed will battle Parrish for the 2nd outside position. My guess is that we will work on Hardy's outside skills against man coverage this season and he may see some time out there, but he probably will play inside until games get out of hand- it is our best shot at having a somewhat productive offensive unit this year
  23. I'd be surpised if he doesn't play a lot in the slot this year
  24. Every point you've made in this thread is dead on. The very concept of setting up a prison outside our country to attempt to circumvent everything that our country stands for is unamerican, IMHO. Only a few more months to go!
