  1. The subject line is NOT an attack on anyone, maybe its just a bit of cynicism from me....... I look around, and think many people just think we should accept things as they are and not push for better- that is not love of country, that is complacency and it is very dangerous. I see two major political parties that basically stir up hatred between their two bases. This helps prevent anything from getting done to fix our problems. I see a broken educational system. No Child Left Behind is completely cosmetic and would be more appropriately named No Child Left Untested. Other countries have educational systems that see their students put in twice the amount of time and with tougher coursework. We don't want to push kids in our country- we pamper them, and prevent them from failing, lest it crush their poor feelings- they get to sit around and play mindless video games, while kids in other countries pass them by and our economy continues top crrumble as we don't develop young minds to turn things around in the future. I see a government that is more concerned with what goes on overseas- starting a war and not finishing it, then moving on the the next country- then building that country up, while we crumble at home. I see people mesmerized by this leader- claiming that we should hold people indefinitely because they do not have rights declared by our constitution. True enough, they don't have those rights. BUT, if we truly beleive in our own constitution, and our own freedoms, how can we not hold ourselves to the highest of standards. We need to set the example, and treat people justly- whether they deserve it or not. I look at what happened at Abu Ghraib, and I think about the past- the war on terror is a war on evil, everybody knows that. Look at any war on evil in the past- what has it resulted in. The ones waging the war become the vile things they fight against- and that is not because they are bad people- most are not. Situation dictates what we become, always has and always will. Torture is not an act of americans, it is an act of terrorism. It is not an interrogation form that works, it was not only used for interrogation either. We are fighting amongst ourselves instead of fighting for our countries. Every democrat, republican, libertarian, green party member, independent, etc... has a duty as an american first. We need to hold ourselves to the highest of standards and not waver from them. Terror CAN be fought and defeated, but not on the battlefield, not in their own kind of fight. We have to remember the founders when they fought in the Revolutionary War and their vision of a free country INDIVISABLE with liberty and justice for ALL.
  2. I find it hard to believe that we don't have the technology to accomplish this quickly- I am saying I would like it to be that quickly, I am not saying it is possible. Someone in my line of work couldn't possibly be certain about that. What I do know, is it would be much easier if our government took care of things HERE, before going from country to country trying to fix things over there while everybody else passes us by.
  3. Will massive drilling help? I don't want to act like I know everything about it, as I clearly don't. All I hear is it will take about 7-8 years to get oil from up there, and I would hope we'd be close to not needing it by then- I do understand that the drilling in itself could drop prices now through speculating. Trust me, I completely understand the problem with the 2 parties- which may be more collusion between the two than we realize- that is why it isn't a lock that I vote for McCain or Obama
  4. Just how much will the offshore drilling actually help if the oil is not kept here. It will end up on the world market instead of here. Anyways, why isn't there much talk about drilling in the gulf, where we know there is more oil. Why is ANWR continually brought up (we all know why), when there is another location in alaska with more oil that goes untouched. Why are we not focusing more on the renewable sources of fuel? Even if we dig up all the oil we have in this country, it is still a miniscule source. Everything seems so backwards
  5. They were a part of it- but when you think about it, America really abolished slavery. The slaves saw freedom, wanted it, fought for it. They got help from those who knew that slavery was evil, and with eventual help from the government, it was finally eliminated. It started with the people- without that, the government never would have acted
  6. I don't agree with all things liberal or all things conservative, but I heard a caller on CSPAN the other day that was downright depressing- he called liberalism a mental disorder. Liberals believe what they do, because they think it will make America a better country- same can be said for conservatives- both are right on some issues, wrong on others. To be so narrow minded is a shame, and quite often, detrimental.
  7. Certain things directed towards the opposing team (or the home team) members and officials are completely inappropriate. I remember several years ago, when Trent Dilfer returned to the seahawks after the death of his child, he played poorly, and a fan yelled to him that it was good that his son died. I would have decked the guy and got both of us thrown out.
  8. One of those players that couldn't hold his jock is our current left tackle, Langston Walker. Another one is the guy stepping in for Walker at RT. Another is at center. This leaves Edwards and Lynch with worse blocking than last year. Walker couldn't even play guard because he isn't explosive enough to get push, nor is he mobile enough to pull.
  9. Ok relax. First off, look at the competition you mentioned. Do you think Miami and New York will be nearly as bad as last year? Both teams were just a few lucky breaks away from many more wins than they had, and that includes games against us. The 49ers are mediocre, not awful as are the cardinals. The Raiders should be quite a bit better this year- they did well to keep Russell off the field last year and they have a lot of talent in the backfield. The Chiefs are downright awful. Now, lets look at our offense: On the line, Peters handled himself well, so we were able to slide our protection to the right to protect walker, and put a tight end to his open side. Now that Walker is our left tackle, we will have to either slide protection to his side, or to the side of a guy who couldn't crack the starting lineup last season. Fowler is terrible- and I don't want to hear about his injury, I watched him as a Brown. Our running backs showed nothing as far as picking up the blitz last year, so our young QB can't expect initial protection from his line or secondary protection from the RB's- how do you expect him to develop under those circumstances. Our WR's have only been upgraded by adding a rookie- after the dismal failure of the unit last year. Don't expect much out of Hardy is his first year- he has a lot to learn. Anyone who thinks Parrish will add much to the offense needs to get out more. Our best play last season was Lynch dodging three unblocked defenders against Cincy and making his own yardage. Peters' absence does not just affect the LT position, it affects the line and offense as a whole- then you have the fact that the defense will be on the field longer.................
  10. They will be lucky to win 3 games w/out Peters.
  11. Dungeons and Dragons sure beat the video games that everyone plays today- there is no imagination anymore, just people mashing buttons
  12. I didn't hear that speech, but I am fairly certain that the tires comment had to be taken out of context (as things usually are in stupid presidential campaign years. Until something concrete can be done, every little thing can add up and help.
  13. I agree. I played for a few seasons, but when you can't watch a pregame without hearing about it, it has become nothing more than a nuisance. I can't even tell you how many arguments I've had with a longtime FF player who thinks Aaron Brooks is a good QB. Football good, Fantasy football bad
  14. Quite the contrary- NOT seeing Andrews can be MUCH worse. I read about a pro wrestler who had a torn muscle in his arm that decided to save some money by seeing a less accomplished surgeon. Within a week of the procedure, the wound opened and a fluid that he described as looking like chunky soup started gushing out of it. Andrews is the most well known surgeon of his type in the world for a reason. Under his supervision, Kelly gets his best chance of a full recovery.
  15. Then let him find a better site- with all the work put into this site, you don't need to put up w/that %^$^%$^. People can show some freakin appreciation
  16. Actually, the pariah should be Jerry Sullivan, who has no insight in the sports world at all. Then again, he wasn't hired for his insight
  17. Just remember, as a democrat, Obama will take all of the money that Big Business makes- they will be so poor when he is done, they won't have enough to be middle class. Also don't forget, McCain is a republican, and as such, he couldn't care less about anyone. He hopes the poor starve so there will be less people in the country. Its sad that some people are dumb enough to believe that kind of garbage
  18. There are some funny posts hear, but nobody is copying the moronic ploy from people who don't even understand their own arguments by posting "Obama Bad" Those "Bush Bad" posts have cracked me up........pretty much by people who have run out of excuses- at least neither Obama nor McCain make excuses for that rubbish
  19. Drew had some good years in New England, but aside from a few years, he didn't have that wow factor- quite the contrary. People had the impression that his holding the ball cost his teams games. To me, you shouldn't have to look at a players stats to determine hall of fame worthiness, you can tell by watching. My upcoming HOF QB's would be Brett Favre, Peyton Manning, Phil Simms and possibly Boomer Esiason (I'm not sure on him). Honorable mention to Steve McNair and Stan Humphries who had great years bot not the longevity
  20. I would be shocked if he comes close to making a final ballot- ever. Even at his best, he wasn't that good. He had some stud offensive linemen- including hall of famer Bruce Armstrong. He had great targets like Ben Coates and a potential hall of famer at RB in Curtis Martin. He also had a great defense for most of his career. He is an upper level journeyman, above Testaverde, but still nowhere near Hall of Fame caliber. I can see no QB going in with a class before they take him.
  21. Actually, I think I recall King W saying that God talks to him. This would explain a lot of his policies, if you know what I mean.......
  22. Stop plagiarizing, his imperial majesty, King W. I heard that King W just got off the phone with God, you know, W talks to God every day to get advice on how to run the kingdom
  23. I won't deny that I don't like the idea of Flag or Bible burning, or shooting the Koran. But there are idiots in this world, and they are going to be idiots- can't and shouldn't legislate against that. Education, not legislation is the only way to overcome ignorance. Still, I think it would have been responsible of the media to report it.
