  1. The game is meaningless just as the game today was for New Orleans and they pulled their starters as well. I'd rather be an idiot with the 11th pick than a true fan like you with the 23rd but that's just me. There are no such things symbolic wins when you in the need of talent. I could understand if we were a lock to make the playoffs at the beginning of the year and we persevered through a lot of key injuries but we are 4 to 5 players away from being playoff team, perhaps more if we lose Clements, Fletcher, Kelsay.
  2. ...in order to come away with the number 11 pick in the 2007 draft at worst. Even with wins by Miami and San Francisco to bring them to 7-9 our strength of schedule disadvantage is so large we won't jump past them to number 9 or 10. With the 11th pick in the draft we would have an outside shot at the no. 1 DT in the draft, Alan Branch of Michigan, or the best RDE in the draft, Gaines Adams of Clemson. There is always the chance that WR Dwayne Jarrett of USC drops or we could possibly draft Florida FS Reggie Nelson who I keep hearing is going to play CB in the NFL but we will likely also have the option of solving our problems at either RG or RT with Texas' Justin Blalock or Penn State's Levi Brown. Either way with all of the strides we made as a team this year (JP establishing himself as our QB, stabilizing the defensive secondary, the improvement of the offensive line to at least adequate) we head into the draft and the offseason with needs that we will can definitely address through the draft rather than pinning our hopes on free agency. While it would be nice to sign LG Eric Steinbach it may make more sense to re-sign Mike Gandy if that means we can bring back Clements and allow us to use that first round pick on RG, RT, DT (If Branch drops) or even an impact DE in the mold of Javon Kearse (Adams) if we decide to let Kelsay walk. My hope is we could grab OG Justin Blalock, trade back into the late first round and grab WR Sidney Rice of South Carolina or stay put and grab DT Frank Okam (I pray nightly that hes coming out) to start in the 2007 draft. That would go a long way toward shoring up our lines, both offensive and defensive.
  3. not sure if investing in a 31 year old WR makes a lot of sense.
  4. I like Pittcock as well but I like McCargo a lot more and we need someone who can stop the run and not just try to to get to the QB.
  5. A lot will change after pro days and combine performances but this years class might be a bit more talented, although not as deep, as last year's crop of DT. Branch probably goes first and then Okam if he declares. Probably the top two right now.
  6. I think we could be anywhere from 10 to 14 but I'd guess because of our strength of schedule we'll be around 14.
  7. I really think he's got to be bigger -- maybe not Washington/Adams big but Pat Williams big. My hope is DT Frank Okam comes out from Texas but there are a number of good (not great) DT's n this year's draft. The depth and talent level we would have on the defensive line would really take the pressure off of our LB's and while I'm a fan of London Fletcher, our FA priorities must be spent at OL and re-signing CB Nate Clements. I think we should also see a lot of improvement in the secondary (If Nate re-signs) and I'm going to enjoy watching these safeties grow into what could end up being our strongest unit on defense. My hope is that we can shore up the OG spot via free agency which would allow us to grab a WR in a draft that is very deep at WR, in the second round. If Clements leaves then obviously we would have to draft CB with one of our first two picks unless a top DT drops to our pick. I think our biggest weakness mght be LB considering one starter is a free agent and the other two are coming off of injury. I think Ellison is a player but this draft is as good as any to take LBs if they are the best player available at our pick....AFTER we grab a DT.
  8. It's really irrelevant since it would be based on roughly the same amount of time watching the same players. While that seems to be important to you it really doesn't outweigh the type of player they were in college and will likely be in the NFL. This team needs to get bigger and more physical at DT, not quicker and more tenacious. As I said, Tripplet, McCargo and Williams are essentially the same player.
  9. The exact same amount of time you have to base your belief.
  10. Now that we've played our way to bottom half of the draft and out of the playoffs I for one will praying to God we can somehow get solid DT and OG via the draft and/or FA this offseason. McCargo, Tripplet and Williams are not the answer -- they are all the same player and should be providing tremendous depth at one DT spot. We need a physical presence at both OG and DT for this team to move to the next level. I believe even more than we need a 2nd WR or a replacement for Clements -- lets hope he stays. With DT's Frank Okam (6-4, 320, Texas), Alan Branch (6-5, 325, Michigan), Red Barnett (6-4, 330, Texas A&M) and Kareem Brown (6-4, 310, Miami) in this years draft we should have an opportunity to grab one. Its the OG spot that I'm more concerned about since the talent drops off considerably after Justin Blalock, who played OT in college. I still think this was a great season considering how horrible our OL and run defense was and the fact that this was JP's first full year at QB. The team has a tremendous potential but if we can somehow address our deficiencies on the interior lines we can finally realize it.
  11. The two biggest needs this team has is at OG and DT and while I like Blalock he's an OT who would be playing OG. We need a road grader not a finesse player at the position.
  12. In my opinion the key to the continued development of JP Losman is the improvement of the O-line and another dependable receiving threat. We need help at OG and OT so my preference would be to shore that up unless the no.1 DT is on the board when we draft -- then I'd be tempted. OG OT DT WR LB
  13. I saw every LSU home game this year and he's just not that impressive to me. Reminds me of Jarrett Johnson from Alabama a few years ago. Just a rotation guy and I thought there was more than that out there at that pick.
  14. People like me that know better? Did I get elected to the house or senate as a Republican? Because as far as I know the privatization bill (House or Senate version) never came up for a vote. When you control the government it's not my fault your party can't govern. They control all three branches so how is it people like me? On that same thought, if you're party is really anti-abortion how come there isn't a vote to ban it via constitutional ammendment? Hmmm. Must be "people like me".
  15. Prior to combine and workouts. Very old sig line.
  16. McCargo is a better DT than Bunkley? What do you base that on, chronic?
  17. Three month old sig line. All before workouts.
  18. Didn't they say the same thing about Derrick dockery? Pretty sure they did. Jilles isn't going to be anything but a great player in this league.
  19. By the way, how's that whole privatization thing going for ya? That really caught fire -- its the domestic policy equivelant of the betamax. Nice work.
  20. Not a fan of McCargo or Williams because of their size. Williams because of his lack of athleticism. McCargo is still African-American I think.
  21. Old mock. Haven't posted in awhile.
  22. I get why we may have passed on Ngata (Previous knee injury) but I can't see us passing on Bunkley and then wasting a pick to trade up for an inferior McCargo. Why not Ngata (Or Bunkley) at that pick and if you trade up you go and get C Mangold or TE Lewis or even OT Justice? Any combination of those two is far superior than Whitner/McCargo in my opinion at least. I love the the Youboty pick and can't believe he fell to the 3rd. Its the other 3rd rounder that just kills me. OG Max Jean-Jilles is there (He falls into the 4th) and we don't take him??? I LOVE the FS Ko Simpson pick but HATE the Kyle Williams pick. HATE.
  23. I'd be MUCH happier with -- DT Brodrick Bunkley DE Mathias Kiwanuka S Darnell Bing G Charles Spencer DT Rodrique Wright
  24. I think he's exactly the type of player we need considering we're thinking of starting a rook at C. He's a great C but lacks the athleticism that the position needs. But he KNOWS the position. Plus the guy plays with a mean streak -- which our OL needs desperatley.
