The May/early June data was hinting that the worst was behind us, and that turned out to be wrong because there was not enough viral contact in the Southern states. But, the lessons learned from the carnage in the Northeast meant that the severity of the spread was nowhere near as bad as it was in April, and the southern states can get to herd immunity without sacrificing a large portion of the population.

In a sense, you have to treat Florida as going through their first peak, compounded by that far greater availability of testing than what existed in April. In that light, it will have higher positive tests. But if you want to take a look at the severity of the infestation, Florida is nowhere near Europe, and most certainly not in the same stratosphere as the Northeast US. The real COVID apocalypse is coming in about a week, now that there's more evidence that AZ, FL & TX are peaking. Some people are going to lose their minds when there are no more graves to dance on.
