  1. Yes, I realize that losing Spikes wasn't the only issue. Donahoe's refusal to put talent in the trenches on both sides of the ball is clearly why this team sucks hard. Indeed, I happen to think Crowell did a very good job stepping in for Spikes. However, it did seem like the defense had its heart ripped out when Spikes went down and rather than having veterans like Milloy and Adams step it up, the defense just fell apart. Anyway, the point was that Donahoe was out there selling the team as title contenders and they clearly are anything but that. With one of the worst OL in the game, a weak DL and suspect run defense, with a rookie at QB, with lots of questionable depth, with a grass-green head coach ... this was definitely not a team poised to make a run at the Super Bowl.
  2. I read this as a shot at the front office and not the players. They were so busy hyping and selling the product on paper, they didn't know that the product sucked. That is, they believed their own bull sh--. Another example would be the Takeo Spikes injury. If the right talent was being brought in, then losing one guy out of 11 on defense should not have sent the entire team spiraling out of control. Everybody knows injuries are part of the game and one has to have backups and coaches that can "hide" points of weakness with some creativity. Is Mularkey going to want to stay? Or will he fall on his sword ala Wade Phillips when Ralph gives him the business about his assistants?
  3. Moulds is, arguably, the only reason the current Bills have a passing game at all. I mean the Bills QB, pass blocking, TE, and backs make opponents laugh and not cower in fear. I have serious doubts that Reed or Parrish can step in and replace Eric Moulds, even in decline. The cap number can be fixed with a new deal. Tom Donahoe's approach is to cut veterans loose, but it seems crystal clear that Tom "Sign Gestapo" Donahoe won't be around long enough to dump Eric too.
  4. He had a great game. Bully for him if that translates into soaring up the draft boards of some teams -- but, I hope the Bills scouts aren't the overreacting knucklehead type. LaTendresse showed he's an excellent route runner, can run to the open spots in a zone, can extend his arms out, and catch a football. His stat line, while very impressive, was made so as much by the lousy defensive scheme and total inability to adjust it during the game (the Tech coaches were thoroughly out coached in that game), the poor play of Tech's secondary, the Tech equipment manager who apparently forgot to pack the long cleats for the slick track in a soggy Emerald Bowl, the good play of the Utah line, the great play of the unknown Utah QB...
  5. The Bills once had an athletic line and they went to Super Bowls with that group. Since then they have had a "thing" for these "wide body" types and the results have been simply disasterous. Drafting more Jamie Nails types will keep the Bills at the bottom of the NFL for a long time.
  6. Umm. Ray Rhodes has had at least a couple of "minor" strokes this season and does not attend games any longer. MH has had him helping to develop the defensive game plans in recent weeks and that's about it.
  7. Yeah, I have no idea if he'd want to get back into coaching in the NFL. And, the Buffalo Bills have quickly become a toxic cess pool that needs a ton of work to clean up. Still, a coach like that (well, the Jim Mora before the stress-induced meltdowns in the press room, anyway) is what this organization needs. Someone that is no nonsense, can set standards and goals, and will separate the wheat from the chaffe. And having a strong GM that knows how to put together the right pieces (instead of worrying about fans in the stands with "jerk signs") will be needed as well. I really don't envy Ralph Wilson's job this off-season.
  8. I would guess that Ngata could play any role needed. (He's the second-strongest All-Time Duck, IIRC behind only Igor Olshansky, who was a freak.) The Ducks use him as the defensive anchor primarily -- he ties up multiple blockers and blows up the point of attack. Which is not to say he can't collapse a pocket and penetrate; he definitely can and is actually a pretty accomplished kick blocker. Aliotti's D has (in recent years anyway) had some smaller, quicker linebackers, so having a couple DTs that can control the line of scrimmage frees them up to make plays cleanly.
  9. Jim Mora (Sr.) was one heckuva good football coach. He turned around some cess pool organizations and was a winner everywhere he coached. Although, I'm not sure the stress and grind was really all that good for his well-being. The Bills could do worse than to have a strong leader come in, clean house, and teach some people how to win in the NFL.
  10. I'm still a little annoyed that John (rest his soul) Butler never even bothered to interview other candidates, esp. Gruden, when he just turned the page and handed the keys to Wade Phillips. Nothing against Wade Phillips, but even back then (he was about to get the Raiders HC job), one could sense that Gruden had something special about him. It's a game of inches ... or maybe not dialing the right phone numbers.
  11. There are going to be a lot worse picks than Haloti Ngata. He's big, powerful, extremely smart, and exceptionally quick for a man of his size. (I've seen him outrun backs to the outside and crush them from behind.) He's not just another huge DT -- he's a real student of the game. He did have a knee injury but has recovered from that very well.
  12. It's true. There wasn't a whole lot that separated Manning and Leaf physically-speaking. Both were big, tall, pocket QBs that could make all the throws. Both played at Div I-A schools and won a lot of games, etc. The difference between these two was what was going on between the ears. It's just obvious now. Peyton Manning is driven to excel and be one of the greatest QBs to ever play in the NFL. He busts his hump and works non-stop to perfect his craft. He's humble, still striving for perfection, etc. Ryan Leaf, on the other hand, fully expected that his God-given natural ability to sling a football was just going to continue to carry him along with zero effort. Not only wasn't he dedicated to making himself a great QB, he didn't even care enough about the game to even want to play. His college cockiness became evident as a shallow, arrogant person with a paper thin skin and no respect for his teammates, coaches, fans, or himself. Character matters. And not just at the QB position.
  13. The suspense is killing me... What's big? His ears? His nose? What??? Maybe it's a big mole on his buttocks?
  14. Belichick actually watches game film, you know. So, I think the answer to that question is, well, staring him right in the face.
  15. There is some distraction elements to that Paris Hilton, Jessica Simpson thing. Hmm. Maybe the Bills could just hire a bunch of strippers to "entertain" in the end-zones when the other team is on offense. I'm not sure if that is a legal "gadget" play or not though...
  16. Is there anybody coming out that is "coated in baby fat" and "looks like a bowling ball with ballet slippers on his feet"? The Bills need more guys like and Kiper insisted it was a can't miss pick last time around.
  17. Ah, there are a lot of QBs on that list... QB? Why do we want to pay big cap percentages to and train a QB for some other team? Assuming the guy becomes an NFL QB at all? (Most QB picks are nothing but wasted 1st round picks.) Besides, we already have a green-as-fresh-mown-grass QB on the roster. Just say "No!" to another rookie QB!
  18. Is Richie Petitbon still alive?
  19. The shovel guy was doing a fine job. Keep him, I say.
  20. The Bills could've had Witherspoon and Brown. BUt, hey, we got Ryan Denney. What's not to like?
  21. I thought it had a lot to do with running team-leader Bernie Kosar out of town and the team "running for the bus" afterwards. Modell looks like a genius now, of course.
  22. Beating your head against the wall is fun too. Once you get a good rhythm down, it doesn't hurt so bad...
  23. to fill a head coaching vacancy is Washington's defensive coordinator.
  24. My neighbor coaches pee-wee football. I'd appreciate it if she got a new job and moved out of here. (OK. Maybe a bit too far outside the box there. )
