open borders like communist China? afaik their immigration is locked down quite hard. doesnt seem very communist to me. trans cult in communist china? they dont even allow gay people to marry. being trans appears to be even worse. lawfare in communist china now thats valid. from what i see you guys have been doing that to each other (rs and ds) for some time. although I absolutely grant you that the president was mostly off limits until recently. and thank you @B-Man i love me some beavers.

fair enough. i assume the same applies for the myriads of other politicians over the years, from both sides, who do "commie things"? it doesn't seem that way. instead it seems like the current enemy is the dems and that yelling commie is a tactic which may get the right out to vote. either that or there must be a threshold that is crossed where one moves from "doing commie things but not a communist" to "actual communist"

Stop Calling Us Commies!!!
dickleyjones replied to BillsFanNC's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
I live just outside of hamilton, just on the fringe of a rural area. I live in a 4bd house with a lovely 1 acre yard. I feel blessed to live where i do at low cost. I have been living here for 20 years now, so i'm a rather extreme example of rent control. Thankfully my landlords would rather have good people taking care of their house than go through the difficult and legally dubious process of kicking us out and replacing us. -

Yeah, i feel abused. I guess i should prefer my rent to double at the whim of my landlord? I currently pay $1700 (4 bd) my rent would easily be $3500 - $4000 if i moved to a similar place. That said i totally agree that gov has dropped the ball on housing. It has been that way since the 90s. But it's not only because of price control (rent control), that's a drop in the bucket. It's many things. Foreign owners are a problem. Not building enough, especially right now. I think the worst is corporate ownership. To quote Irv, it's a mess. -
I mean the higher earning middle are the ones who used the first time home buyers the most. Lower middle and less still can't afford and now the cost is up even more. So, it benefits a few if you are one of the lucky ones that's nice. At the same time, some must now climb even higher than before. I will certainly take advantage when it is my turn to buy. Cell phone plans. We are notoriously expensive. In 2019 a mid tier plan was ~$75. Everyone knew we were being screwed. Now the same tier (slightly upgraded because tech) is ~$35. in addition, cell companies can no longer charge cancellation fees after 2 years, must unlock your phone upon request, and there is now a cap on roaming and data overage charges. in my case, living in a rural area and using cell data, my bill was around $300 per month for two plans (high even by canadian standards). Now it's about $40 with the occasional overage charges of another $50. My current plan is $20. Add to all numbers 13% tax.

even if that is all true (questionable but ill bite) becoming a lawyer takes at least some semblance of intelligence. i find it very hard to believe any person in congress is not smart. people may hate them, disagree, whatever, chances are you need some smarts to get that far. well that, and a total lack of morality but that's a different problem. i suppose it depends on your definition of smart. politics requires so much dirty work it is inevitable you will not be liked and the same with your positions. maybe she is an exception. maybe she is not smart. but to call the notion "preposterous" is silly. it is at least a reasonable take.

we don't have much sand, but we do have snow. too cold to put my head in though and plus im too busy being afraid of great leader trudeau to have time for that. as for the policies, im not even saying i think they are a good idea. but i am saying they are not communist. im canada, first time home buyers seems to favour the higher earning middle class who dont need it as much. although i have friends who benefited directly which is nice. a real meh policy on the whole. still, most here agree that the corporatization of real estate has been negative for us. price fixing has helped tremendously on our cell phone plans prices. we were being gouged (highest cost in the world i think). at the same time our grocers, mostly owned by like three families nationwide, have all been found guilty of price collusion etc. some have had to pay consumers (we all got like $25 for a bread price fixing scandal lol) but most continue to get away with it because launching countless lawsuits just doesnt happen around here. anyways i understand you don't like the policies. i think they probably dont do much ie are prefomative. but to call them communist lol i dont know why but the more i see it the funnier I think it is.

"The suggestion you made that Harris is "smart" is preposterous" this statement is preposterous. disagree with politics etc that makes sense. to say calling her smart is preposterous? like there is no basis in reality to call her smart? i barely know the womam, but to become a lawyer, then DA, then senator, then vp takes some smarts no matter how you spin it. it reads the exact same as when the silly lefties call trump stupid. there is just no way it is true despite how desperately they want it to be.

i don't even give them that much credit. they didn't "know" ***** (for a while, anyways). just like us plebs, there are some politicians who think complying with such a rule is below them. "rules for thee not for me" - now that's something all politicians can agree on!

you said: "Monkeypox is a gay centric disease and those most likely to get it are promiscuous men. Lying about it does not protect them and being a monogamous gay relationship should keep them safe." i suppose i interpreted the "lying about it" to mean the (so called) experts (CDC, WHO, etc). maybe you just meant the poster you were responding to. i think i conflated your comment with others here who are saying the experts are not talking about gay men being at high risk. anyways, no harm was intended.
-
The point is, it specifically addresses the high risk for gay men. I was told that was not being done.

https://www.cdc.gov/poxvirus/mpox/vaccines/vaccine-recommendations.html so this seems right then. much ado about nothing? totally agree. i think most doctors are culpable in particular. which hurts to say because i know many who risked much to get us through. they just need to stop pretending they are epidemiologists.
-
I agree re blind trust. Cry wolf, maybe. I think it was/is simply authority figures who don't have a clue about epidemiology being afraid of being wrong so they hid behind doctors (who also have no clue about epidemiology). Damn shame, the epidemiologists i know were pissed off the whole time as doctors were viewed as experts instead of the real experts. And of course we know anyone who dared speak out got the stick (my brother, an er doc, included). The problem is if we assume cry wolf then we end up like the story ie eaten by wolves ie *****. "it's all a conspiracy" isn't helping.
-
Agreed. Very very unfortunate.
-
according to those recommendations, no. although if it starts to become more prevalent and my doc is offering it i probably would even though the risk to me is supposedly low. i do find it interesting that i was just told here (not by you) that the problem is "we arent allowed to talk about the increased risk for gay men and mpox." yet here we have the cdc specifically addressing that? i dont understand why you think it is a good idea to preemptively call a disease outbreak a scam.
-
I agree with you, proper messaging seems to elude our society at the moment and that's a shame. Happened with covid as well. However, imo "scamdemic, plandemic" is equally shameful. Maybe mpox will come and go and most people will be fine. Hope so. But it is inevitable that we will be hit by something in the future which makes that rhetoric really dumb. Maybe we won't live long enough to see it. But geez, you would think the lesson learned from covid could be better than "it's always a scam".

Stop Calling Us Commies!!!

Lol really this is still your angle? Jumping on the "end of democracy" train? 😄 When you are done rooting out the commies, come help us up north, Trudeau and his red coat mounties have thrown my friends in the gulag and i'm tired of lining up for bread n cheese. On second thought...nah. I'd quite happy with my price controlled rent which at the moment is the difference between living in a good home vs a 1 bd sh*thole. Oh the humanity!
