  1. To answer the OP question I don't think I would out and out hate any of the names that are being thrown around. However I would be concerned to varying degrees. Most Concerned A: Andy Reid - I'm glad it doesn't appear the Bills are hiring Reid. this Dude needs to take a couple years off. Didn't he have two sons die? His family life is all F-ed up. He needs to go rest and recuperatie with a therapist. I would just expect to have a mental breakdown at some point. Most Concerned B: Ken Wheisenhunt - It was nice to have Kurt Warner. Kurt Warner ain't coming to Buffalo so whatcha going to Ken? Oh, create another QB debacle. (Also if Ken Whisenhunt goes elsewhere outside of Buffalo I would say that Chan Gailey would be high on his list as OC. So who would his OC be if he goes to Buffalo. Second Most Concerned: Lovie Smith - I hate hate hate "system" guys. To paraphrase Wade Philips, Wade said its the job of the coach to take the talent you have and make it work. Not make the talent you have do something it may not be capable of doing. Coach the players and adapt the system not the other way around. I think he could get an OC though. Then you have the unprovens in order of concern: Mike McCoy - Peyton Manning's OC? Yeah thats a tough job. Right up there with practice Squad QB for the San Diego Chargers. Surf, bang hotties, show up to practice, surf, bang hotties, sell good tix to the game. Peyton "Hey OC don't get in my way" Mike McCoy" Yes sir" Ray Horton: - I love what he did on the defensive side of the ball in AZ. Even when they were crap there defense was a unit you generally didn't want to play. They got run down in the 4th because they basically had the University of Phoenix Offense going 3 and out on every possession. Who would he get to be the OC? Some QB coach from Pittsburgh. Would he be able to hire an experienced hire at OC? Those are major areas of concern. College Dude: Chip Kelly: - CJ Spiller and TJ Graham in the back field (because why would you have Graham run routes with that speed. Just do some crazy flip the ball to TJ Graham screen plays) Would be crazy interesting to watch. Could be a huge disaster as the NFL LBs are all teh fastest dudes on all of the college teams. You can pinpoint your attach against the EEE major at Stanford, everyone is a college all star LB. So they can track down those plays. It would either be a Boom and unstopable or be a bust and laughable; No in between. Plus Chip Kelly appears to have some Iron Gonads. I don't see him punting from INSIDE THE OPPONENTS 40!!! :wallbash: So I guess I would most like Chip Kelly but I wouldn't hate any of the above outright.
  2. Plus if you go by the worst name possible thoery that the Bills are following it would have to be Whisenhunt. Mike MULARKEY, Ggregg Williams, DICK MURON, CHAN GAYley. Chip Kelly - Fails Horrible Name test - good name. Mike McCoy - Fails Name test -good name. Lovie Smith - Fails Horrible Name Test - a Little extravagant but still a good sounding name. (Now if it were Hatie Smith the Bills would be in teh running) Andy Reid - Fails HorribleName test Just a Solid Name Ray Horton - Fails Horrible Name Test - Not a great name but still not terrible Ken Whisenhunt - ding ding ding ding - That Sounds like we have a winner! Plus when he has 3 years of losing you can change the H to a C - Ding Ding Ding. This guy is a shoe in for the job.
  3. That was weird I had the wrong mc coaching candidate. I meant Kelly
  4. It wasn't Mike Bellotti that made the program. It was Kelly. I really dont know what will happen without Kelly. He has to have some gigantic gonads or be a little crazy to make some of the calls he makes. I dont think another coach wouuld have the sack to play his style of football. I'm not so sure if his style would translate to the NFL its completely boom or bust but it if it ranskates its a big boom.
  5. What does it matter where the bar is set? The bar has been set. What is more absurd, Someone that wants to burn down the front office every three yearse g or someone that sees there has been actual real world improvement in the talent on the roster? You may want to check on Chan Gailey's actual coaching record as HC in the NFL. You clearly dont know and You may be surprised. (Let me give you a hint 2 for 2 in making the playoffs and an NFC East title)
  6. The fact that Lovie Smith, Chip Kelly, and Ken Whisenhunt all actually interviews with the Bills where as 3 years ago, top coaching candidates were avoiding the position is evidence that actual NFL coaches that actual coach in the NFL, not post on a message board, believe the franchise is in a better spot than it was 3 years. Who else but Buddy Nix is responsible for the actual real world improvement measurement by actual interest in actual experienced Head Coaching candidates? Yes we didn't win but the 2008 Buffalo Bills were a laughing stock with no building blocks. The 2012 Buffalo Bills are losers with building blocks and a FO that has garnered much more respect. You think any of these coaches are salivated at a D-Line with Kyle WIlliams, Mario Williams, and Marcell Dareus? Throw in CJ Spiller, Eric Wood, and Cordy Glen. Plus you get to franchise either Byrd or Levitre. Compare that to the utter crapfest on the roster after the 2009 season and you can see why the franchise is in better shape. You don't think Lovie Smith, Horton or Wheisenhunt would salivate at that D-Line and the things you can do with it. LBs are much easier to come by, you can get a 6'2" 250-270 guy anywhere. You can't get a 6'8" 290 lb specimen like Mario Williams, or an athletic Big Man like Marcell Dareus anywhere. Those guys know what to do with those types of players. You can piss and moan that the Bills haven't won more games or that they continued the playoff drought but you're being either blind or obtuse if you content that the talent on the roster is worse than in 2009.
  7. Anyone but the Patriots. Because I hate the Patriots.
  8. I would say that many teams would have the coaching candidate talk to the assistant GM, like probably all of them. The Coaching candidate is going to talk to lots of people in the process. Its not 1 hour interview in the back office where 7 applicants are lined up and then the hiring manager pulls the trigger without discussing anyone else's opinion. This isn't hiring a clerk and the 7-11. There are multiple people involved and multiple conversations and multiple opinions involved. The GM weighs through all of the information and uses their experience to make a decision. Whaley's input is going to rank very high and it is unlikely, no matter where Buddy is in the retirement stage, that Buddy would ever hire a candidate that Whaley out and out disapproved of. All this being said, yes there is likely a transition plan to Whaley, could be shortly after the draft; could be after next season. Buddy Nix recruited and hired Whaley obviously he respects his opinion. These decisions are not made in a Buddy Nix vacuum.
  9. You know he was the top LB recruit coming out of High School and was likely going to take over for Cushing, Maoluga, and Mathews but went to ND instead. He could have played at any SEC school, and I'm sure he had offers. I think your SEC man crush is clouding your vision. But we get to see first hand on Tuesday.
  10. Plus he is not even 5'11" he is 5'10 5/8th. If you pick him up and put him on the Bills you think he catches lightening in a bottle in Buffalo? Chan wouldn't have played him early in the season. Hell he never even gave TJax a shot (who is horrible and probably looked horrible in practice) in week 16 or 17 just to see what he has. If the Bills did draft Russel Wilson in the 3rd, what would likely be happening now is that Dawgg would be complaining about how stupid Buddy Nix is for drafting a 5'10" QB in the 3rd round when there was better talent available.
  11. Yet another post where you are judging a person for not have perfect hindsight. You can have a redraft of the 2012 NFL draft with the same players and it is still unlikely that Russel Willson would go in the first round. He is a 5'10" QB that caught lightning in a bottle. Do you think you can just plop Wilson on any roster and he the team goes to the playoffs? Russel Wilson is anomaly and doesn't prove a point one way or another. You know who would go in the first round if you had a redraft of the 2012 NFL draft? and probably be a top Top pick? Cordy Glenn.
  12. Um, the consensus is Te'O is a prototypical side line to side line 4-3 MLB that can also play SILB in a 3-4. I've never heard anyone say he is not a fit for a 4-3. Where are you getting this information from? I mean the only knock I hear, is that no one knows how fast he is, so his 40 time in his underwear in Indianapolis is going to get some scrutiny but no one is concerned with his game speed in pads.
  13. I don't get the Strength of Schedule hate for Notre Dame. @Michigan State Michigan Stanford @ Oklahoma USC #27 overall strength of schedule with a peak of #6 overall Strength of Schedule before some teams went haywire, *cough*cough* USC *cough*cough* Michigan. Either way. I wasn't a big Kulchey fan either and he looks like a stud. I think Te'O's college play is heads and shoulders above Kulchey's college play. So I'm sticking with my earlier statement. The Guy looks like a stud. That being said, big players may big plays in Big Games. Te'O has the biggest game of his life coming up. I too am interested to see how he measures up.
  14. 31 other GMs passed on Russel Wilson multiple times. Actually I think only the Redskins and Raiders based on him less than twice. So should all 31 other GMs be fired because they pased on a 5'10" QB? Also this is just one year, remember Derek Anderson's awesome one year? The book isn't written on Russel Wilson. I will put money on him this Sunday. I think the Seahawks will take down RGIII and the Redskins. That still doesn't justify taking a risk on one of the shortest QBs to start in the NFL in the last 20 years and yes height is important when you're standing in front of atleast 8 people that average over 6'3" and average over 270 pounds (The average of an offense line and defensive line.) Russel Wilson is an anomaly.
  15. That would be the most bass ackward thing I have heard of, I highly highly highly doubt the decision has been made to acquire Alex Smith and they are looking for a coach to fit the QB. If I were a GM and I were interviewing multiple NFC West Coaching Candidates, and I knew that Alex Smith may become available it would be just basic due diligence to pick their brain while you have them in for an interview. That doesn't mean they are going to base thier coaching decision on whether they like Alex Smith or not.
  16. I only got to the second page but I would think that Step 1 for the Bills would be to hire a head coach. Step 2 would be "hey new head coach what do you think of Alex Smith?" Weisenhunt and horton probably have a specific opinion of Alex Smith since they played against him 2 times a year the last 5 years. So I'd think this we are way too early in the game to sepculate about FA QBs. The new coach is going to have and want some input on their QB.
  17. Excellent Excellent post. The oversimplification of the GM role and the tranition plan to Whaley is clear in this thread. Nix didn't "show us the baby" and now people want to throw the baby out with the bath water.
  18. A few things people seem to struggle with. 1. GMs generally do not make Top Down Decisions. Generally in the NFL a GM doesn't say, "We"re drafting a QB round 1. Specifically we're drafting Geno Smith. Make it Happen." This is not how the role of a GM works. A GM will take the information from their scouting department and other contributors weigh the information, discuss options with their staff. Then take that bottom up information into consideration and use their judgment and experience to make a decision. 2. Buddy Nix, Hired and recruited Doug Whaley. Buddy Nix did this with the intent to turn the GM role over to him in time. 3. A top notch coaching candidate wants a Front Office that is stable. The Constant axing of GMs and Coaches after a 3 year run IS THE REASON WHY A TOP TIER CANDIDATE DOES NOT WANT THE BUFFALO BILLS COACHING JOB. Not the location, not the weather, not the old owner. An organization that is in constant churn is a bad organization to join. Axing Buddy Nix only shows that organization is impatient and has no long term strategy. Keeping Nix, and seeing a smooth transition to Whaley is something a TOP TIER COACHING CANDIDATE WOULD LIKELY WANT TO SEE HAPPEN. You can say what you want about Nix as a GM, he is clearly a mind you want to consult when it comes to shopping for talent. There are people that can say he hasn't down a good job of adding talent and that the talent he has added is in comparison to the low bar the Bills have set for the last 13 years. That is an opinion everyone is entitled to have. However the talent on the team in 2008 was laughable. Both lines offensive and defensive were a joke. You win football games in the trenches. The Bills were basically an expansion team in 2009. Buddy Nix has built this team from the lines out and imo done a good job of that. We are a 2 LBs and a QB away from being a playoff team in my imo. That is much better than 2008. I would go as far to say if someone argued that the talent on the roster was better in 2008 than 2012 you are lying or being argumentive for arguments sake. So has Buddy Nix showed us the Baby? No. Has the team improved talent wise since he has been involved with the bills? Yes Are the wins there? No. So do we continue the churn in the Front Office and Nix Nix? I say No. Show some stability to the coaching candidate. Show the GM transition plan to the candidate that I am CERTAIN 1.) EXISTS 2.) NIX IS AWARE OF AND 3.) NIX LIKELY HELPED TO CREATE. Some will say Yes, Nix Nix; Heads must Roll! Well guess what the Bills have tried that every couple of years. IT HASN'T WORKED. What level of insanity would tell you that it would work again?
  19. Its the same expressions for 40+ pages. We get it already. Russ Brandon is part of the problem and Buddy Nix sucks at being a GM. Lets move on.
  20. Thank You! The bitching and moaning around here is amazing.
  21. Who is mike atkims. . That is a pretty good list. Ken Weisenhunt id think would be a candidate.
  22. No im saying Ralph might have heard Arthur Fonzerelli or Ropert Wagner talk to him about a Reverse Mortgage and gave Jimbo a call. http://m.youtube.com/#/watch?v=CogQBgAFwI4&desktop_uri=%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DCogQBgAFwI4
  23. I'm catching up late here and haven't gone through the whole thread. Financially they only way I can see this happening is if Ralph Wilson put together some kind of reverse mortgage together for his Franchise. Where the mortgage payments go to the Wilson Family trust. Thurman and Jim Kelly couldn't get their hands on a Billion dollars in financing to buy the team outright. Remember the Bickering Bills? This could be fun.
  24. Jay Cutler is not a leader and is a fraction of the talent of Cam Newton. Cam Newton will have a long career in the NFL and put up lots of stats, Much Like LeBron James early in his career If Cam Newton develops and turns into a leader he may get some rings. If he continues to be a jerk, he'll just be a losing stat monster. Great for Fantasy Football either way.
