Roll Call - Who would have preferred to lose?
1B4IDie replied to The Senator's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I said arguably just as good or better. You want to argue, great for you. Either way Timmons is a stud he is everywhere on the field; Sideline to sideline. You'll get to see that on Sunday. You're missing the "theory." The "Theory" is not "it doesn't matter where you draft." The fact in the NFL is that there is not a significant amount of difference between picking #4 or picking #6 to justify loosing. That is the point that you're missing. -

Can We All Agree Not to Throw the Bills Under The Bus....

Yeah Mendenhall is going to be really tough for this Front7 and Dick LeBeau is going to do some freaky deaky stuff to Fitzmajic, but question is, is the Fitzmajic strong enough to turn the Steel curtain to Lead? (does that work?) I also believe the Special Teams weakness goes back to a weakness in depth at LB and TE. Special Teams is filled with backup LBs and TEs and we barely have serviceable starters at those positions. But the same could have been said about Ray Rice and the Ravens defense and that game came down to a bad forward progression call. -

#5-#9 do not have a valid claim at the national championship, there complaints will be duly noted and filed in the circular bin. -

Its amazing that a playoff of system is too complicated for our Universities to devise and you wonder why America's education system is failing. Here is an idea: #1 plays #4 and #2 plays #3 in the first week of Bowl Season. Then the winner of those two games plays in the National Championship game. You rotate the actual BCS Bowls that the playoff games and National Championship game is played in, like they do today. Thats 3 BCS bowls. The Other 2 Bowls could still be be determined by these selection criteria. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bowl_Championship_Series#Selection_of_teams That way all the big Money Sponsors are happy and you can have a National Champion determined on the field of play. There really hasn't been a team ranked #5 that has had a legitimate gripe or claim at the national championship, there has very rarely been a #4 team that had a legitimate claim either. The only "drawback" is that 2 teams get 2 big time, big money bowl games, but to the winners go the spoils. Wow that was really difficult to figure out. Too bad College Football is not an amateur sport and there is too much money at stake to enact this simple plan. -
Playing Delhomme and Sanchez helped out a lot too. I like Byrd but I was worried about a drop in production coming into this season. I think he got 4-5 picks in those 2 games alone. George Wilson is fundamentally a much more sound player. Thats why I say keep Wilson in for most of the game and put Byrd in and let him Ball Hawk. INTs are extremely valuable if you have a Ball Hawk let him Ball Hawk. I'd say Byrd made his own luck, its something you have a feel for. Let him follow his instincts a few plays a game and see if he can grab a few INTs.

Terrell Owens Calls Darrelle Revis 'Average' Cornerback
1B4IDie replied to CodeMonkey's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I like TO's honesty. You have to like his pre game and post game comments last week, and yes Revis is not playing all world anymore. People are just stating the fact that TO drops a lot of passes. -
I get Reggie White and the Original LT but who else got ranked higher? They both won SBs and in turn will win popularity contests, but I can't think if who else would be in there. Mean Joe Green, Deacon Jones? Come to think of it I bet its Deacon Jones, they always interview him and he played before sacks were counted as a stat, and claims to have 100s of sacks. White, LT and Bruuuce are all so great its hard to rank those 3, its like 1a, 1b, 1c

Bills beat the Bengals which beat the Ravevens which beat the Steelers. Therefor the Bills will win 49-14. As long as they keep it interesting like the last 8 games. I'll be happy. -
I'd go with this one: http://www.anytimecostumes.com/products/p-00352046 then just trim it a bit, just a bit, by Sunday it could be just as woolly.

Roll Call - Who would have preferred to lose?

Don't be torn, The Year Patrick Willis was taken Lawrence Timmons was taken a few picks after the Bills who is arguably just as good or better than the hype that Patrick Willis received. Don't get me wrong Patrick Willis is a great linebacker but Timmons is a stud too. I would have loved Willis over Lynch but look at the Maybin pick. No one could ever explain to me why you would pass on Orakpo for Maybin. It was just an irresponsible pick. Drafting Well trumps drafting early. -
I agree with this assessment. Edwards has been more aggressive calling blitzes the last few games and has taken Kelsay out of pass coverage and put him back into pass rush and both have obviously led to more pressure. Wilson got a pick in triple coverage of TO. That was just a horrible decision by Palmer. A few more turnovers a game will lead to more Ws. That was sorrely missing through the first 6 games.

He already has 11 drops on the season?? I can't look up the dropped passes in a season record right now but I'm sure TO is threatening. Because of our futile passing offense lost year TO dropped 2.5% of all of Buffalo's pass attempts. That's crazy. -

You do understand that stating that drafting higher will make your team better is analogous to "choosing the Mercedes over the mid-level car would automatically result in more money in your account." Drafting a Mercedes early doesn't mean your team is better off organizationally. You still have to mold the draft pick and devise offense and defense strategies to use the new player effectively. You get that right? You keep restating this general notion that losing is the most prudent organizational strategy in more outlandish and incomprehensible ways because you are just plain incorrect. You ignore posts like Koufax that reasonably proves your notion is incorrect then ramble about choosing cars. Please take the time to read and understand then learn. You don't have to constantly beat the same broken drum but it is a fact that the small incremental improvement in draft position that an organization will receive by losing inorder to draft an incrementally better "tool" is not worth the trade off of losing. -
Man, do I #@$%ing HATE the NFL!!!!!!
1B4IDie replied to High Mark's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
WEAK SAUCE! You deserve this for 1.) not planning to tailgate prior to the game and 2.) not planning to tailgate after the game. If you're going to travel for a game have some fun. Planning to fly in right before a game id a horrible idea and planning to fly out right after a game is an even worse idea. I go on two road games every year (This year three) and I always plan to take Monday off. If you're going to do it do it right. Stop whining and pay the flight change fee for Monday (ITS A FREE FLIGHT ANYWAY!) and get a cheap hotel. In the City of Tampa you can get a decent hotel for less than a C note. Live it up, you only live once. Have some fun. -
I like Byrd but George Wilson proved last year he deserves PT and is proving again he deserves PT. It's probably Byrd that should be put in situationally, obvious passing down where Byrd can ball hawk, and put George for the rest of the game. But that's just my opinion. BTW. Checkout the George Wilson foundation. It seems like a great concept for a charity.

What an amazingly thoughtful and well written post. I can only hope, certain individuals have the capacity to learn, or a minimum appreciate the logical response. -
What has happened to Rian Lindell?
1B4IDie replied to billsfreak's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He ain't no spring chicken. Some Kickers Kick until their 40s. Lindell will be 34 after the season. Its possible that you're seeing a natural drop off in skills due to father time's clock. Everyone Likes Lindell but NFL stands for Not For Long, and as much I'll miss good ole' Rian its likely this will be his last season in Red White and Buffalo Blue so enjoy it while it lasts. -

Really the entire NFL believes your nonsense position? If that were true why is tanking not a reality in the NFL? Why do actual teams NOT purposely lose games? Why was the NFL not forced to enact a lottery because of wide scale tanking? The answer is because the NFL does not believe there is a significant qualitative difference in the draft picks if you tank. Its just people that see a lot of highlighted pro bowlers and think that can be applied position by position. Pick #116 must be better than pick #118 because there are more pro bowlers picked in the first round than the second. If a team were to tank they would really only gain 3-5 slots by tanking, there is not a significant enough difference by moving up a few slots in the draft worth the trade off of losing out in real football games. If there were the multibillion dollar businesses in the NFL would have already figured this out and would have started tanking for the last 50 + years without the Genius insight of Joe_the_6_Pack, Edwards's Arm and Masochist-at-Heart (a real Buffalonian would never propose losing as an option.) The truth is tanking does not significantly improve your draft prospects enough. -
This is a much less flamey way to represent the OP's opinion. Except for the "everytime' Because its more like some of the time. Safety help does not equal a double team. Lee Evans is a good one dimensional player. He is one of the best in the NFL at a fly route. He is only OK and everything. Double covered does not generally mean a Safety over the top, they're different. So the Myth that Lee Evans is doubled on every play, is a myth. He is a good WR, and is a deep ball threat.(period) He is not double teamed in the sense that a nickel or LB is in coverage to help the CB, or a zone-man coverage where you have a guy glued to Lee Evans and run a zone over top the man to make sure that Lee is never one on one with CB. I would consider this a double team. Lee Evans is in Single Coverage with Safety deep, on 85% or greater percentage of the Bills offensive plays. Safety help, is traditionally what a safety's job is. Its called Safety because traditionally and commonly they're there as a Safety net for the defense to make sure plays don't go long. Maybe a quick google will help everyone understand that a safety helping is not a double team: http://football.about.com/cs/football101/g/gl_freesafety.htm

Just facts not analysis. Do you have any evidence that supports drafting higher produces better prospects, Besides just propagating a general notion? Because its much more likely that Coaching, organizational support, opportunity and Personal dedication matter much more than whether an individual was drafted with 86th pick or 116th pick. -
No I watch the games. I don't count a high safety help as a double team. Having a safety help on the long ball is different than a double team that's just kind of standard coverage. If you want to see what a double team looks like watch a Houston Texans game. But stats do matter like 9 touchdowns in 10 games, or 6 touchdowns in 9 games. If you think Dick LeBeau is so scared of Lee Evans that he is going "double him all game". Let's count the plays where there is a double team on Lee Evans on Sunday. My guess is low single digits. Unless ofcourse you count a safety overtop as double coverage then ofcourse Lee, the Nelson twins, Stevie J and Martin are all "double teamed all game".
