So much for the NEED to have a "franchise QB"...
1B4IDie replied to McD's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Why did you grab 10? There are 12 playoff teams. Its a fail because you were wrong about 1st round QBs left in the playoffs. Wrong about QB ratings. and wrong that a 1st round QB isn't a need for the Buffalo Bills. You can keep deluding yourself though. -

Still 4 1st round QBs are left. Still a fail. I don't know where you got your list from but here is the real regular season QB ratings: 1 Tom Brady NE 111 2 Philip Rivers SD 101.8 3 Aaron Rodgers GB 101.2 4 Michael Vick PHI 100.2 5 Ben Roethlisberger PIT 97 6 Josh Freeman TB 95.9 7 Joe Flacco BAL 93.6 8 Matt Cassel KC 93 9 Matt Schaub HOU 92 10 Peyton Manning IND 91.9 11 Matt Ryan ATL 91 12 Drew Brees NO 90.9 8/12 are 1st round picks 9/12 were picked in the first 32 picks Double Fail. 10/12 are playoff bound. Seems like QB rating is a better playoff indicator than defense ranking. Triple Fail -
Reasons to Not Pick a QB in Next Draft

WRONG. The concept that you groom a 4th round QB to become a franchise QB is foolish. It is very likely you find a very good serviceable ILB in the 4th, its still the top 150 prospects. Its not like the 4th round is full of scrubs. As you stated earlier there is a premium placed on QBs therefore the QBs that have a chance to be a starter are drafted early. The QBs that are drafted after the 3rd are not drafted with the idea that they will be the starter or leading the franchise one day. They are drafted in the hopes that they become a serviceable backup. -
I would love that draft, especially if Wayne Daniels was on the board at 4b but Carmichael is no joke.

and Maybin. Thats 10.

Take a QB! Tons of Defensive talent 2-4

This thread is evidence why taking a QB in the first is not a detriment to building a solid defense. -

McD would have a point if there were 0/4 1st round QBs however there are 4/4 1st round QBs left in the playoffs and better yet 6/8 1st round QBs that played this weekend. The non 1st round QBs were 0 for 2. "but but but it's but it's all about the D because i've clearly proven its not about 1st round QBs it's about D. Why don't you understand!" Biggest fail of 2011 so far. (update 8/12 QBs in the playlets were 1st round picks, with non 1st round picks being 1-4 and 1 of the 4 non 1st round picks was the #32 pick in a 31 picks a round draft so yeah it's all about the D) -

Outstanding point! And add that to the fact that the Bills have only taken two QBs in the first round in the Super Bowl era and the only time they were relevant was when 1 of those first round picks led them to 4 straight Super Bowls. -
Anyone else not enthralled by the DLs after Fairley?
1B4IDie replied to 1billsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree. However I have watched atleast 6 Alabama games and probably atleast parts of another 6 over the last 2 years and Marcell Dareaus usually makes atleast 1 outstanding play atleast 1 time per game. I think the kid is special. Bowers and Quinn scare me, I'd be happy with Marcell Dareaus at #3 or a trade down to take Mallet or Cam. Agree, but I'm scared taking Quinn, that has played as much football as I have since September at #3. The Problem with Clayborn is the 4 or 5 games that I've seen of him he is gassed all the time. He is not an "everydown lineman" if that even exists anymore. He would definitely need to be platooned in and out, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, just worrisome at #3. Camron Heyward will be a good NFL player for many years. Probably not a blue-chip game changer on D but will definitely be a force to be game planned for if there is a team around him. -

Nick Fairely is going #1 overall and certainly will not be there at #3 so who is the Bruce Smith? Bowers and Quinn give me the creeps that high. I like Marcell Dareaus and wouldnt hate that pick. The weak is reference to the OP. 2012 is a super weak QB draft class after Luck. I feel that Mallet or Newton could both be "the man". We'll see what Nix and Co. think in April. -
For real! Plus their names are fun to say. If only we drafted Haloti Ngata when we had our shot . . .

So by your logic drafting an average to below average QB to develop into a starter, after the 3rd round, which almost never happens (Tom Brady, Ryan Fitzpatrick then no other starter on the 30 other NFL teams) is better than drafting an average to below average LB that will see playing time because our front7 is so weak is a better use of a pick. Glad you're not the GM. It is easy to sign a backup QB there are tons of guys that have a few starts and proved they're not franchise QBs but are good in a pinch. Thigpen comes to mind off the top of the head. You're smoking crack or have no ability to judge talent if you think Mallet or Newton aren't going in the top 20. Mallet is a better prospect than Josh Freeman. I would have loved if the Bills "reached" on Josh Freeman over Lynch. Instead of taking a 3rd round average to below average QB. -
1a. It's not 2008 the oline is slightly below average there are 2 top 40 picks starting, if they lock down RT the line would be slightly above average plus 1b. No one wants the rookie QB to start next season. 2. Dont start the lose out in 2011 talk already.

Yeah Levi Brown part II is a great use of a pick. No no no and no. Either sign a veteran #2 QB or take a chance on a real prospective QB like Mallet or Newton. Don't waste a mid to late round pick. -

Nick Foles smartly did nit declare for the 2011 draft because he is inconsistent and often injured and has lots to prove next season. He could be the second best QB in 2012 which shows you how garbage next year's QB class is. Matt Barkley is a joke as an NFL prospect. Best case he is Colt McCoy at 6-2 there is no way Batkley goes in the first round. -
Yeah it was real hard to find 235 right on Penn State's website. http://www.gopsusports.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/maybin_aaron00.html Either way Miller is too small to play rush backer in the NFL. You pick big bodies or QBs early because it's hard to find big & athletic people or NFL caliber QBs. Later in the draft you can pick big OR athletic people. Von Miller is in the only Atheltic category and can't play his college position in the NFL.

Locker??? That's a joke. You must not have actually seen him play. He crumbles under any kind of pressure, isn't accurate and can't win games. -

1. Same could be said every year. 2. Drafting a QB poses no detriment to improving the defense. There is great defensive talent in the 2011 draft in rounds 2-4 3. Very weak class. With the exception of Luck all project much worse pro prospects then Cam & Mallet 4. No one want the rookie to start. 5. No one wants the rookie to start. 6. Seems irrelevant to me. Josh Freeman wasn't rated as high as #11 in 2007 but in the long run that would have been a great pick over Lynch. If there is a guy you think can be "the man" you take him when you have a chance. -
Actually Miller is listed as 7lbs lighter than Maybin. Clearly Maybin is more like 235 but there is no way Miller has 15lbs on Maybin Miller is listed at 6-3 243 and looks like 6-1 235 on the field and Miller gives up everytime the play is away from his side of the field. He only has a college speed rush. No other moves. An NFL LT would toss Von Miller aside like a certain #58 on the Bills. Von Miller would have to play inside LB in the NFL or maybe weakside OLB but why would you draft an easier to find ILB with #3 pick?
-
Von Miller = Aaron Maybin. He is tiny with no backside pursuit. This would be a typical Buffalo Bills bust detector pick.

Ron Rivera new HC of the Panthers
1B4IDie replied to CosmicBills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Nick Fairely is almost assuredly going to be the #1 overall know. Bowers would be the only other option if he think Bowers can play a giant Rush Backer in a 3-4 a la Woodely and Terrell Suggs. In this Year's draft it'd expect a rookie defensive coach to want to make his mark with a cornerstone piece like Fairely. -
The few games I watched Sam Acho I was impressed,he does seem kinda stiff but I don't know if its a solid no for OLB, but it is a solid no for DT he would need to eat a lot of Brisket to plat DT. Wayne Daniels is another guy in the same Draft Range that I like too. Both guys are are team Captains (seems Buddy has a preference for that) and Acho won the "academic Heissman" so he must be pretty smart. Smart, leaders with High motors are what the Bills appear to be targeting. I'd be happy if one of these two guys or maybe both were on the Bills roster in 2011.

So I guess FJ was just doing yoga after college until he became a Buffalo Bill. You might want to look into those numbers a little more. . . And if you think FJ has a change of being on the field in 2015 where Lynch most likely will you might want to quit the whippets, youngman.

Ain't gonna happen on 100% of them. There is no FA period until there is a new CBA.
