Do you take a chance on Jake Locker?
1B4IDie replied to bisonbrigade's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm not saying to take Ponder but I do think 100% Ponder will be gone before #68. Locker is a joke 10 times worse than Jimmy Clausen and I wouldn't have used #68 on Jimmy Clausen. -
I have read every CBS report of every top 50 player. I have also watched Peterson play in actual games. I stand by my statement he will end up playing Safety in the NFL. Only time will tell. Don't just take my word for it " You generally don’t find a corner with this type of bulk, and there is a reason for this. It is difficult for a corner, who has to read quarterbacks and react to wideouts, to be fluid enough in his hips and change direction on a dime to keep up with NFL receivers. This is the major knock on Peterson. His hips are relatively stiff, which could force a position change to safety. Is he the type of player who will get dominated by shifty smaller wideouts like Wes Welker in the NFL? What about the athletic freaks like Calvin Johnson who can basically do it all? These are all questions that will have to be answered by pro scouts."

Just because you're misinformed doesn't mean that everyone elae is misinformed. Marcell Dareus is a "A" level talent and is most likely a better more NFL ready player and will most likely have a better more impactful career and more difficult to find an equivalent than a WR. Please I've read every report on Peterson and use a scouting service I have been using for a couple decades called "My Two Eye Balls" there isnt really anything special, or once in a decade type of talent. At 6'1 225 he is going struggle reacting in coverage at the NFL level. I'll bet he ends up converting to safety in less than 3 years.

What's crazy is people believe that. He went back to school because the actual draft advisory board told him he was a 3rd round pick. No matter what sports entertainers say. Then proceeded to have a bad year because he is a bad QB. Why does "the supporting" cast all suck, but Locker get an exception? -
Peterson is not a star, or even close to "star" he has stiff hips for an NFL CB and looks more like SS. Which we need. He is in no way shape or form a "superstar" or "shutdown" corner. You don't want a "superstar" you want a player that will make an impact and improve the team to have more wins. You can keep your perimeter "stars" This team needs players that force the opposition to adjust their strategy. Teams will have to game plan the Bills very differently with Williams and Dareus on the same line. If somehow Peterson pans out, how will that help beat the Pats, Jets, or Dolphins that don't have a #1 receiver or don't know how to use them (Marshall) ? It won't help much. Everyone seems to think that Lee Evans is doubled on every play, so 2 years from now you have Green and Stevie Johnson, the Bills are in the same boat Green gets doubled just like Lee. No impact.

Yeah Baldwin is listed at 6'5" 230 with a frame like AJ80. I doubt he is there at 34 but if he fell I'd be on board. I'm also A-OK with Phil the power Taylor. He was a 4th round or later prospect until the Senior Bowl. Even if it was Dareus & Taylor I'd like to see people try to push a DTW D-Line. Not gonna happen. Carringtin and Troup will get PT in rotation, plus against the Pats and other heavy passing teams you have to be in a 4-6 a lot of the time especially on Passing downs (unless they know they'll get 200 yards rushing on you without trying) so it makes sense in the division to have atleast 4 solid downlineman even if you run a 3-4 base. -
Since 2000 here is a list of teams that took a DB in the top ten Raiders, Bills, Browns, and the Redskins X 3. Not exactly a list of teams that know what they're doing on draft day.

He must have recruited Jon Baldwin, who could go (RD1) I wonder what the reaction would be if the Bills took Baldwin @34. -

People, If you want a second round QB take Christian Ponder instead. He actually has much more potential than Locker. -

Another Todd McShay creation. He should trademark the scrub QBs he propels to household names. Shlocker is total garbage, the senior bowl just was the exclamation point on his horrible schlock ridden college career. He crumbles under pressure like a styrofoam cup, has a losing record, an under 60% completion percentage and interviews like a nit wit. I doubt he goes in the 1st 3 rounds. He needs to go play baseball, he is not an NFL caliber QB by any stretch of the imagination and only draftnicks talk about his potential. Real NFL scouts know its a joke. Trading back into the second to take him is even worse than taking him in the 2nd. There is a lot of talent in the 3rd and 4th rounds in this year's draft. It would be a double or triple stupid move. -
Not at all. With out Bruce Smith there are no 4 Super Bowls. Jim Kelly spread the ball around too much. Thats why Stevie Johnson almost broke the TD record of 11 TDs last season. Bruce Smith is without question the greatest 3-4 DE in NFL history. The #2 isn't even close. A 3-4 DE isn't supposed to get sacks. (Reggie White, or almost anyone else you are thinking of played a 4-3 for most of their career) A WR is supposed to get TDs and Recs. Jerry Rice was the greatest WR of all time, but the drop off to Andre Reed a top 20 WR of all time wasn't as big a cavern as the next best 3-4 DE. (And as an aside there aren't any mountains to run up in the Buffalo area. That mountain running gave Jerry the edge in the 4th QTR I'm sure Jerry would have found something else to give him an edge or maybe not)

My bad.

The only discrepancy is of your understanding of AJ Green's rankings and where he really stacks up. There is no correlation between AJ Green being a possible HOF and realistic expectations. Some think Julio Jones may have the better NFL career. If you want to talk rings Julio Jones already has a SEC championship and a BCS championship ring. Just found this thought it was interesting: http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/blog/dr_saturday/post/Tale-of-the-Tape-A-J-Green-vs-Julio-Jones-th?urn=ncaaf-257892 The real trade down opp happens when AJ Green goes off the board. The next WR is Jon Baldwin (who I actually like he is more of a beast like Andre Johnson) and Wanstache knows him well. But there is still a significant drop off after Julio Jones. So I teal that wants a WR might make a trade if they don't think Jones will last.

Here is another completely irrelevant list: Doug Atkins #11 Carl Eller #5 Joe Greene #4 Dan Hamption #4 Bob Lilly #11 Leo Nomellini #13 Merlin Olsen #3 Alan Page #15 Lee Roy Selmon #1 Bruce Smith #1

Bowers is a physical specimen and was able to get to the QB last year. Bowers has a lot of red flags in my opinion. #1 He is the Top Recruit in the country and didn't jack until lately (Touching story about his Dad dying, and basically saying "Son you need to step it up.") #2 ACC is pretty weak #3 I watched 2 games and he seems to take some plays off. The Bills and Denver staff are going to need to grill him interviews, and grill all his college and high school coaches. The Cool thing is Elway is putting all the interviews out in the open and I'm sure there will be some good Bowers interviews.
-
Dareus is anything but a marginal talent and we'd be lucky if he were there at #3. If it goes #1 Fairely; #2 Dareus, I wouldn't hate #3 AJ Green.

Physical freaks vs High Motor/intelligent guys

Are you talking to me? Are YOU talking to me? You must be talking to me, because I don't see anyone else . . . No, not directed at you in particular. Maybe, "someone deems" would be the proper term instead of "you". -
That is the key with Dareaus he is versatile like Kyle. If we continue to play a hybrid 3-4, you have two guys that can play multiple positions and play them well. Plus watching Dareaus play, the odds of a bust are very low. The guy will be contributing from day one.

But when you have the opportunity to draft #3 overall. You must take a player that has NFL Size, Speed, and Football IQ, There is no need to compromise on size and draft a player that isn't already cut from an NFL cloth. We are talking about the 3rd best college player in all of the college football players that declared for the draft. Get the size and motor and football IQ in one package. No matter how unimportant you deem size to be, there are literally not that many Human beings on the planent that are 6'2"+ 290+ that are fast, quick, strong, and smart. If you have a chance to draft one of these rare humans you have to take them. Nick Fairely and Marcell Dareaus are two examples of the type of player you can get if you draft both motor and size. That is an immediate impact. -
You might want to read some more sites, the easily accessible, CNN of sports, ESPN has Julio Jones as the Top 13 overall prospect. http://espn.go.com/nfl/draft The real reports on the two are actually much closer than you're aware and here is a quote from the easily accessible Rotoword: No one has Julio Jones lasting past 20 let alone 2nd round and very likely that Cleveland takes him after AJ Green goes off the board to Cinci.
-
I concur, once Peterson and AJ Green go off the board, then teams may want to trade up to get Prince and Julio Jones as the drop after the top 2 at that position seems greater than the drop off between the top two.
-
I'm all for a tradeback but it seems as likely as Jim Kelly buying the Bills which would be not likely at all.
-
Why wouldn't they just stand pat and take the arguably better Julio Jones?

Good point

The Problem with Walter Football is Walter Cherepinsky is as qualified as me to give draft opinions: http://www.facebook.com/walterfootball I found this site NFLDraft101.com http://www.nfldraft101.com/aboutUs.jsp That is run by some former TV and Print Sports Journalists that atleast have a little more validity to their creds. This site also seems to have their own opinions, where many of the draftnick sites all just copy of each other, McShay and Kiper. They separate out 4-3 LBs, from Outside LBs, and Inside LBs. http://www.nfldraft101.com/draft/rankings/2011/olb.jsp Von Miller = Lack of size. If you take Buddy Nix at face value than there is no way the pick is Von Miller.
