  1. Yeah because we've also been so successful at drafting. I guess the Bills should just stop signing free agents.
  2. That is 1. An exaggeration and 2. A result of coaching. If his coaches want him to extend the play in the pocket instead of run down the field I don't see any reason why he couldn't do that. I guess You also dont realize no one cares if the passes are connected. They're looking at footwork and release. No one is tracking completion percentage at the combine. He has a 66% competition percentage on game tape, which is a thousand times more important than combine drills.
  3. You're suprised because you have no idea how Cam Newton actually plays the game.
  4. You realize that many of the same exact WRs in the drills will be the WRs in the NFL, right? You also realize that his WRs in Carolina will be the same WRs in the game as in practice? You also realize no one cares if the passes are connected they're looking at footwork and realease? You're really stretching on your concern. He showed great throwing motion, but raw footwork. Good thing footwork is probably the easiest to coach up and usually an issue with every college QB. There's really very little cause for concern. Not really much of any new information either. Cam Newton needs to work on a 3, 5, and 7 step drop we already knew that.
  5. This Portis kid is impressive in the drills. Silas and young have been solid in the WR drills.
  6. Why So Serious, thinks that Buffalo needs a person that speaks in the 3rd person. This will make Why So Serious happy to listen to interviews. Why so Serious thinks its like drafting two people in the spot, Cam Newton, and the person that is "going to continue to focus on Cam Newton, to try to make him the best person he can be." It may even make Bell feel like he is protecting the father he never had and work even harder to become an elite LT (right before he leaves town.) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zmqTWSt_84I
  7. I've watched him play many games and most of the knocks are very overblown. He is not nearly as immobile as the reports make it sound and not nearly as bad a decision maker as the reports make it sound. The way draftnicks pick on this kid you would think he never accomplished anything in the SEC. He led his team to back to back winning records in probably the most difficult division of the most difficult college football conference including a 10 win season. What other Arkansas players are being talked about as 1st round picks? You got DJ Williams and DeMarcus Love that will be 2-3 rounders. He elevated that team with his leadership and QuarterBacking. He is an accomplished player You don't get over 7,000 passing yards and 60 TDs with over 60% completion percentage in two seasons being as bad as people talk about him. Watch him play, He is a leader with an elite arm. He will be a great QB on a team with a good O-Line. Thats why if he is there at 34, and they don't go QB in the 1st its a no brainer. Petrino and Chan's system have more in common than they do different. Stash Mallet on the bench for the year, and lock down the RT in free agency and we would have Drew Bledsoe in his prime. Which is pretty f'in good QB to have. I won't touch Locker not because of accuracy issues, I won't touch Locker because I don't understand where he has any strengths for the NFL. All he did was lose in college and get injured through a large part. Completely crumbles under pressure, was horribly inaccurate, doesn't have an NFL delivery, doesn't seem particularly bright. Seriously why, other than McShay talking about him in the summer of 2009, would anyone want him on an NFL field? I just don't get it. I've seen him play in many games. I seriously don't get it at all. What strengths does he have? BTW accuracy can't really be improved that much with coaching. Its something you either got or you don't got.
  8. You guys usually seem to be on to something but now I just think you're over thinking everything. Ayers will be a top 20 pick, no question. Newton will be a top 10 pick, no question. John Elway\Fox is not going to take a CB with their first, first round pick, that is pure crackery.
  9. That has nothing to do with the actual scouting reports. The actual scouting reports had to say he was worth a 1st, or Ralph, or Levy or Jauron or Brandon or whatever former\present Buffalo Bill coach or staff just went Gung-Ho over Maybin and ignored the scouting reports. I tend to doubt that. Listen I actually think Nix\Gaily may not be a horrible FO combo, especially considering the Bills have burned many coaching trees and most quality candidates want to avoid Ralph's team as much as possible. But I still haven't tricked myself into believing Nix was innocent in the worst pick in Buffalo Bills history. There is plenty of blame to go around and the ghosts of Buffalo Bills past aren't the only ones that get the blame.
  10. If this stuff isn't true, its character assassination. NFL player's especially QBs have to go through media training. I doubt he had any in depth Media training on how to handle a press core that was out for blood. It would be hard for anyone to handle these issues yes his agent should have prepared him, but it doesn't sound like his agent is doing a good job. Looks like he might drop like a rock. If Mallet were there at 34 it would be a no brainer pick.
  11. Sorry Nix was in charge of all of scouting in January 2009 and the scouting material that lead to the Maybin pick came directly from Nix. Maybin clearly had a high rating out of Nix' scouting department. If the scouting were any good, it would have had Orakpo heads and shoulders over Maybin.
  12. He did look shaky in the Senior Bowl, (no matter what draftniks write) But it does take time for an O-Line to gel so the senior bowl isn't the best display of O-Line talent.
  13. Nate Solder jumped over 9 feet like nothing. Crazy to see the Big men Sprint.
  14. Why is Locker not included in the "very little NFL talent?" Locker in reality had a 3rd round grade from the draft advisory board after his Junior year. The 1st round hype was before his junior year. He had a bad senior year and did nothing to improve his 3rd round grade. Locker will definitely be there in the 2nd and it would be a Buffalo Bills style bust detector pick to take Locker in any round.
  15. Mark Sanchez, Matt Leinhert, and Carson Palmer is a great college lineage and a good NFL lineage, Leinhert being the big bust, that could still one day catch on somewhere (doubtful). I say that Barkley is 6'0and 1/2" in real life because I have seen him stand next to Luck, Locker, and Foles in an ESPN best QB in the Pac10 bit they did last year and he was clearly the munchkin in the group. Mark Sacnhez was listed at 6'3" at USC and came in under that at the combine. http://www.usctrojans.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/sanchez_mark00.html So Barkley actually being under 6'2" is realistic, although he is still a young man, he could still be growing. He could go top half of the first but if he really does come in around 6'1" he'll probably go around where Brees went, #32 overall. Just saying if you put up Newton, Mallet, Gabbert, Ponder, Kaepernick to Luck, Barkley, Jones, Garcia, and Foles. I'm taking 2011 all day long, even with the best QB prospect to come out in years and maybe decades. The Extra year at Standford with the same OC is only going to make Luck that much stronger. It sounds like an exageration but he would seriously have to have an amputation not to go #1 overall. A knee, ankle, or shoulder injury isn't going to drop him a la Bradford. By the way Locker was never in discussion for the 1st overall, thats draftnick hyperbole. If there was ever any talk about 1st round prospect it was before his Junior year, He had a bad Junior year. He went to the draft advisory board last year and asked where he will be drafted and they have him a 3rd round grade. Locker went back to school to improve his rating, he failed at that. I personally doubt Locker goes in the 1st two rounds again this year. I'm thinking he goes 3rd day and the false legend of the #1 overall lives on.
  16. ""There are a lots of different things that have gone into quarterbacks being successful the last few years,'' Bills head coach Chan Gailey said Thursday morning. "I think it makes everybody say, 'Let's not be so hard on that statistic [about first-round quarterback failures] from the last 15 years. Let's look at the last four or five [years].'' Interesting. This shows that the Bills and other teams do go over draft history, meaning Von Miller and Patrick Peterson at #3 would certainly go against Draft history the last 15 years. That makes me sleep better at night. I called a couple weeks back Cam Newton #1 overall. Rivera said "you can't pass on that" when it comes to Cam. Looks like Cam will be competing in the NFC South against my backup team the Tampa Bay Freemans.
  17. Bad work ethic, lazy practices, disappears for parts of game, I was suprised by the number of 'Bama fans that said that about Dareus.
  18. Why? There are 100s of crappy QBs in College Football what makes this one special?
  19. You might want to take Noma's post with a grain of salt. In reality the 2012 QB class is shaping up to be the worst QB class in years, even worse than the weak 2010 class, its still early but doesn't look too hot. Matt Barkley is listed at 6'2" (read 6'0" and 1/2). You see how big offensive lineman are nowadays? Yes Dree Brees but then who is the next great mini-QB? Unless Matt Barkley has X-Ray eyes its not likely he goes in the top half of the first or really even in the first round. Doesn't matter what he does in 2011 you can't coach height and the NFL is very weary of QB's under 6'4". There is no one that is going to say Matt Barkley is better than Luck its just kind of clueless and silly to say something like that. Laundry Jones is an interesting prospect. Nick Foles out of Arizona is actually the other realistic NFL prospect in the PAC-10 (not Barkley) Kellen Moore is interesting Brandon Weeden is a guy that might rise Then you got Tyrelle Pryor and Jacory Harris. Tannehill, Stephan Garcia, and if Kirk Cousins at Michigan State has another big year. He will be a good top of the second QB prospect, but because the class is so weak he could be pushed into the first. If you think the 2011 Class has warts, the 2012 QB class has skin cancer (after Luck.)
  20. I'm in 'Bama country this week and have asked about the fans here, that eat, sleep, and drink 'Bama football about Dareus and 9\10 that I asked said he is going to be a bust in the NFL. Emphatically. I was really surprised. I don't know if they know anything about the NFL or are pissed because he left early but that has scared me away from Dareus. I'm lost now. That's why I've picked Cam Jordan. the least amount of question marks and will be a good player. Very smart , has good bloodlines, high motor. Very low bust potential. Next to Kyle Williams will cause lots of havok.
  21. I never said 1st. There's a value perspective as well. Maybin in the 2nd or 3rd might be a pick the Giants make, then we're back to the nature vs nurture discussion.
  22. Post links of draktniks that don't like 1st round prospects. Try to find a statement where they explicitly say the prospect isn't likely to do well in the NFL, they are very few and far between. I've never seen someone come out with their guns blazing and says "this guys will be a bust" Its all flip flopping and talking out of both sides of their mouths. They have to hedge their bets because 90% have no NFL experience of any kind. They have as much knowledge as many posters on this board. If Thoner7, NoSaint, and San Jose put up their own draftnik site it would probably be better than most of the "specialists" out there. The Truth is Maybi Maybin goes to the Giants, and with the way that team plays and coaches, he gets 10 sacks a season and this board adds Maybin, to the list of players the Bills "could have had" and are complaining about who ever the Bills took instead.
  23. You can feel it coming . . . Cam Newton #1 to the Carolina Panthers. I'm calling it now. Same time last year. Suh #1 to the Rams. QBs rise to the top.
  24. +1 On top of that, his father, step-father, and mother all passed, what a shame. Seems pretty clear then the motivation for entering the draft. This interview is worrisome, although I think the "uhms" are unfair, when a sports journalist writes an article they generally leave all of that out.
  25. If he lands on a team that has a veteran O-Line that is playing well he will have a great start to his career. A la Sanchez in NYJ, Flacco in Bal, an Roethlisberger when he first got to Pitt ( the Pitt o-line isn't very good now) Mallet needs an extra second or half to make a decision. That can get better over time when he gets used to the speed. I like Mallet in right situation he could become special. However IMO Buffalo is not the right situation. Although I think our o-line is not as bad as some think. It's not good enough to protect Mallet, he'll get shell shocked and run out of town. Another QB with potential down the drain.
