IF Panthers take Newton...what do the Bills do?
1B4IDie replied to TH3's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yeah because every NFL team just goes right down the FighClub's big board. You probably already know the draft order. -
Doesn't seem like the Nix 7 team captain in the 2010 draft kind of draftee to me. Don't get me wrong Marcell Dareaus is an athletic freak. This seems like a Nix guy to me: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nRCmBxC1VzE

Here's a wild thought re: lock out
1B4IDie replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
There is too much at stake for the NFL owners to be naive enough to think that a lockout wasn't planned for years. Specifically coming out of the March 2010 meeting where Jerry Richardson gave a speech where he said "Let's take our league back!" http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slug=ms-laborquestions090810 I think you've probably read all the articles about how the owners feel they were forced into a raw deal, Taglibue and Gene Upshaw were on their way out and didn't want to end their careers in the middle of a lockout\strike so they pushed a deal through. Now Ralph Wilson is getting praised as being a "visionary" in determining the deal was bad for the owners. -

Be Happy that the Bills never had an opportunity to draft him, so that he can't be added to the list of players the Bills should have drafted. -
I tend to agree with this, I dont know about the dominate part, I'm hoping for the dominant part. I think Troup will be one if those guys that is an intricale cog and will keep churning for a team for 10 years. I hope he does become dominant.

Yeah he was a real misfit, when misfat his team back in 4th quarter come backs, and misfat his team to a undefeated season, and misfat them to a national championship when injured. On the heels of misfitting his Ju-Co team to a undeafeated, nation Ju-co championship. What a misfit this guy is.

Here's a wild thought re: lock out

Since I've been looking into the situation for the last 2 years, during which any one paying attention could see the owners had no intention of negotiating. They wanedt a lock out and a season off to scare the players to accepting a deal on their terms. The players can't withstand a year without paychecks, the owners can. The owners are looking long term and want the Billions in their pockets not the players. They also know the fans will come back, they always do. That's why the TV money ruling is actually a big deal. The owners were banking on that money to pay the Bills during the lockout season. Now that they might not be able to collect it, it changes the owners options. They may not be so gung-ho to "take their league back" without CBS and FOX paying their Bills. Go ahead and enlighten me if you think there is something I missed. -
Making the "safe" pick the last 10 years is what got the Bills in this situation. Roll the dice for a change on being great at #3. You still have #34 fir your "safe" pick.
-
No we wouldn't as the Bills didn't draft either player.

'Bama fans seem to think he is going to be a bust because of a lack of effort. They say he took plays off. Atleast the half a dozen or so I spoke with when I was down in 'Bama country.

Not to nit pick, but there was no combine drill for accuracy. If there was, what was he is recorded accuracy by the NFL? The reason why Top QB prospect generally do not participate in the throwing drills is because its an unnatural drill. The QBs and WRs are not on the same page. The drill is meant to watch the QB drop and throw independently of the quality of the route that WR runs. Yes a couple passes sailed and yes he made a face (not sure what is being read into the furled brow.) Watch the actual game film, not read about it and you might might see something you like.

They actually cannot do that. There designation as a Regulated Monopoly will not allow them to do that. -
Me too, but I don't see him at #3. So that means maybe a trade down is in the works?

Excuse me? Since when does making an investment entitle you to a return? "Wiser, More Profitable investment?" Like What? The reason the franchises are worth Billions, is because they are money printing machines with little to no risk. The owners bought into a sure thing. If anything the players have shown more entrepreneurial spirit, but working extremely hard and sacrificing their time to hone their craft and sell it to the highest bidder. -
That #34 pick is huge. There are about 8 options at #3 and 20 options at #34. The Bills will be in great position to capitalize on a falling star.

Yeah you're right. The NFL owners would have to basically give back their status as a regulated monopoly in order to play games. Which has a whole bunch of bad ramifications for the owners and probably nullifies a whole ton of TV contracts and endorsement deals. So its not likely to happen. -

NFLPA still exists as a "Trade Organization" and I'm pretty sure that by getting drafted you have previously signed papers saying that you are member of the NFLPA once drafted. The NFL is a regulated monopoly and the NFLPA is mandatory for all players so I think you have to sign up for membership as part of entering the draft. So I think they would have to fill the rosters with replacement UDFA, and rookies could chose to scab and cross the picket lines like any player could choice to do, but I don't think its very likely. At least not in September, maybe as this theoretical season goes on more players would cross the line, but we have a long way until that happens. -
You're right I apologize. I assume everything I read here is opinion, because it is posted by random fans from across the country (and a couple 2nd , 3rd, and 4th tier media members.) There are a few posters that do take it a bit far, when they use their opinion as evidence, not try to back up their opinion with evidence. I too have recently used the ignore functionality, after years of trying to avoid using the ignore. Only two posters have earned that honor (they will remain unnamed) but I'm going to try to reserve that just for the special few. I guess we can get all philosophical to quote Socrates "that he knew nothing except that he knew that very fact." Which can mean I know that I don't know anything therefore I am wiser than the man that does not understand that he does not know anything. So NewEra just know that you're wiser than the posters that don't preface their opinion, with "imo", because In my opinion that is never going to change.

I like the draft besides Patrick Peterson, giving the Bills 12 DBs taken in the 1st round in their history. Which has proven to be a great strategy. Its tough to take a DB when there are big athletic guys that you can't get later in the draft like Fairely, Dareaus, Cam Jordan or JJ Watt. But after that pick the draft looks pretty good. One point of discussion. Is I don't think Barkley is better than Gabbert, Newton, or Mallet. He is barely 6'2". You can't teach height. Colt McCoy would have went before Tim Tebow if he was 6'5" instead of 6'1" I really don't think Barkley is going to be a 1st round pick unless he hits a growth spurt. Also Landry Jones has some talent but he is another spread QB what makes him any better than Gabbert? Foles and Kirk Cousins are interesting prospects too, they might pop up into 1st round contention if they have a huge 2012 After Luck the 2012 QB class is pretty weak right now. If you're going to take a QB this is the year to do, there are great prospects and you're in a great position to pick. Instead of the constant TwoBillsDrive sentiment, "next year's QB class is better."

You really need things spelled out for you like that? IMO you would have to have brain damage not to understand when someone is posting their opinion on a Buffalo Bills message board filled with fans' opinion where fans can specifically post their opinion. Thats just my opinion though in case you couldn't already tell that I was posting my opinion on a message board.

You'd be wrong on that guess.

How is it a atrethch? In the Super Bowl era the Bills gave drafted 2 QBs in the 1st. The Bills didn't draft an aging Bledsoe or draft a no talent, 3-game wonder, Rob Johnson. On top of that the Bills have used 0 thats zero first picks in the draft on QBs in the Super Bowl era. These are facts learn to deal with it, it's almost like the Bills aren't even trying to win. At some point this organization has to roll the dice on the moat important position in football. Instead of perceiving that taking a QB is "too risky" for 50 years or at the minimum since Jim Kelly retired. Bringing up the "1960 regional pick" is a bit if stretch.

That's Barkley, Foles, Locker, & Luck making guest appearances.
