Ok, it is time to start talking about the draft!!
1B4IDie replied to SDS's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It's already Friday in Thailand, do you want me to tell you who the Bills drafted yesterday? -
Thanks, glad to know there are people thinking about need and not just "BPA" at OBD. The reason I say this is the information determining BPA at One Bills Drive comes from Modrak and if you measure by results the information is flawed. I would love more Fairely talk. Dareus and Fairely have pretty much the same resume and the same negatives, namely taking plays off and lack of work ethic. Fairely was arguably more dominant with less talent surrounding him in the same conference. He dropped because he had merely a good combine where Dareus had an outstanding combine? Please, I like the Fairely talk, let's have more of it at OBD.

Very well thought out logic. However you're missing one point Nix and Gailey have to believe that Gabbert is a " franchise QB." they're not going to just take a QB to take a QB.
-
Guys, Gabbert is our trade down carrot. Stop pestering NGU about Gabbert. The official statement to the NFL is that Nix loves Gabbert and can't wait to pick him.
-
I didn't want to nit-pick the list but I agree. I'd put Costanzo at 7(17) on that list. I'd much prefer a RT with #34 than A developmental LT at #3. I think Costanzo needs a lot of work before he can be trusted to start at LT.
-
Where would you put Beal OLB Oklahoma? Do you expect him to be gone before the 3rd round pick? Would you put him Top of the list at round 3?
-
Thanks NGU! You rule. You even took town some off the trolls on this board that many of us ignore. Nice work! I would love to be in room during the role playing meetings. #34 is far more interesting than #3. All 4 of those players can be game changers. Doesn't sound like a trade down is in the works. I'd personally would jump for joy if we took Cam Jordan, an extra second round, fourth round with our #3 overall than any of the 4 prospects mentioned. AJ Green is a bad man, 3 months ago I would be in the "throw a brick through the TV" camp but after looking into him more I wouldnt mind. Look at the WRs, Nix was involved in drafting in San Diego. Fans will lose it if they take Green over Miller. I wouldn't though.

A little historical draft perspective
1B4IDie replied to DC Grid's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yeah there are some players Missing. Plus its hard to compare a 3-4 DE to a 4-3 DE, you need to add 4-3 DT and 3-4 OLB. Plus what's sad is Derrick Morgan played for 4 games has more sacks then Maybin probably ever will. When he comes back from injury you're gonna need to tick that up. Beluga is not sliding in, that's could have been the opinion of some through 8 games, but he locked down the RT after that and will hold down the spot for the next 12 years. If he slides anywhere it would be LT. You might want to tick that up too. -

With the 3rd pick in the 2011 draft...
1B4IDie replied to Frostbelt City's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This is not a fact. Infact its actually the opposite of how actual NFL decision makers think. Two ways you can tell 1.) LBs very rarely go #3 overall. Actual NFL decision makers take Big athletic D-Lineman ahead of LBs because they are harder to find. 2.) An actual NFL coach literary said as much without having to interpret what they think through their actions. "It's harder to find defensive linemen to play a 4-3 and pay for all of them," . . . . Wade Phillips said . . . . "In this day and age, where salary cap is so important, D-linemen are the highest-paid guys. And to get the guys we had in Philadelphia with Reggie White and Jerome Brown and Clyde Simmons, there's no way you could keep those guys [in this day and age]. . . "I think linebackers, in reality, are a little bit cheaper, and you can find more of them. You can find more guys who are instinctive, who can run. Some in-between guys sometimes are good at outside backer. It seems to fit better as far as the personnel and really the money that you have to spend on guys on defense." Sorry if reality ruins your opinion but in reality every top tier Defensive lineman including Dareaus, Fairely, JJ Watt, and Cam Jordan is worth the #3 overall, especially over Von Miller. No matter what "range" McShay and Kiper arbitrarily put player in. Spending 50 Million dollars on an OLB out of the gate before knowing if this tweener can play OLB in the NFL (Von Miller played DE for the 1st 3 years of his career not LB) is a Buffalo Bills style draft both job. You can get an OLB in the 3rd once you snatch one of these hard to find ATHLETIC big men. -

1B4IDie replied to Frostbelt City's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The season Von Miller got 17 sacks the Texas A & M defense was ranked 105 in the nation in defense. I expect a similar impact if drafted by the Bills. Best case he gets 10 sacks and teams still get 200 Yards rushing on the Bills. That's why its a luxury pick, you draft a speed rusher with #3 overall pick after you have both lines built. If he were capable of playing in the NFL which is in doubt imo, teams could dedicate a LT and RB\TE to block him because, guess what, the D-Line sucks. Luxury Pick all the way. This is the #3 overall pick, you can get a OLB in the 3rd or 4th. Taking Von Miller with #3 overall would be a classic Buffalo Bills draft screw up. The fact you can see it happening a mile way gives me some hope that it may not happen. -

I'd rather AJ Green than Von Miller. Both are luxury picks. -
44 years and 48 picks (ranking the Bills' #1 picks)
1B4IDie replied to st. pete gogolak's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He actually has 26 tackles and 4 sacks and 1 Int for the Bills. Which kind of puts in perspective just how bad Maybin is. -
Whats your dream 1st round

I hope your dream comes true Astro. With those picks I'd prefer Cam Jordan OLB Arizona Mason Foster #38 -
Bound to get the TE position right
1B4IDie replied to EldaBillsFan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
What does that have to do with the TE position in 2011? We need a TE in 2011 and I showed you that drafting another TE in the long history of drafting TEs in Buffalo isn't likely going to fix that. We can draft a TE in 2012 if Shawn Nelson doesn't pan out. LB and RT is a better use of the first 3 picks imo. Why bother drafting a TE in the forth? Not to mention Stocker, DJ Williams, and Rudolph all have second round grades. So we're not even drafting a "top tier" TE we would be drafting a second tier TE. -

Sorry if facts got in the way of you listing TEs but the truth is the payoff for a TE is down the road. We need a TE in 2011. Not a 3rd round draft pick that is going to take time to develop. We can get 300 yards and 3 TDs out of one of these FAs, no problem. Zach Miller (OAK) – On your list Marcedes Lewis (JAC) – I think he may have been "Franchised" if there is a "Franchise" Owen Daniels, HOU – On your List Kevin Boss, (NYG) - On Your list Ben Patrick (ARZ) Dante Rosario (CAR) Jeff King (CAR) Desmond Clark (CHI) Reggie Kelly (CIN) Alex Smith (CLE) Leonard Pope (KC) Joey Haynos (MIA) David Thomas (NO) Matt Spaeth (PIT) Kris Wilson (SD) Randy McMichael (SD) Daniel Fells (STL) John Gilmore (TB) Bo Scaife (TEN) - On Your List We have more pressing needs that adding another TE to this list: Year Rnd Pick Pos 2009 4 121 Shawn Nelson TE 2008 4 132 Derek Fine TE 2007 7 222 Derek Schouman TE 2005 3 86 Kevin Everett TE 2004 4 109 Tim Euhus TE BTW the book isn't written on Shawn Nelson. Since it does take time to learn the position, this could be the year it clicks for Nelson. He has shown some promise if he can stay healthy. A TE needs to know pass blocking, run clocking, Route Running, hot reads, Check Down at an NFL level. All while getting use to the speed of the game. Its a big jump from College Ball TE to the NFL TE. If Tony Gonzalez couldn't do it in one year what makes you think Kyle Rudolph will be able to? -
Bound to get the TE position right
1B4IDie replied to EldaBillsFan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Please draft 0 TEs in this draft. It takes TEs years to develop. Get a TE in FA. There a ton of TEs in FA this year. Use the 2,3,4, on LBs & RTs -
You're funny. Maybe only Peterson would be a top 5 pick in most years. This draft class is weak at the high end but a very deep class. They're about 20 players that would be ranked pick 10-20 most years and about 60 players that have second round grades. There isn't a really big difference this year between 6 and 16 and they're is only a big difference if youtake Peterson or AJ Green with the #3. Is there really a significant difference between Dareaus, Fairely, or Cam Jordan? Not really. If anything this should prove to the "let's lose baffonery" that there really isn't a benefit to losing to improve your draft position. We pick #12 this year and we get Cam Jordan, JJ Watt, or Anthony Coatanzo. Players that I think are odds on favorites to be better NFL players than Dareus, Quinn, or Miller.

You crack me up KD, keep the jokes coming.

Was that sarcasm because yes Nick Saban is an icon and yes Tebow is a diety. Have you ever been to the Florida area anywhere between Jacksonville and Tampa? They're still dudes with pickup trucks with #15 in blue and orange all over. Tim Tebow is definitely considered a diety in that area, no joke. Its a very strange fascination. Tim Tebow would win a presidential nomination in Florida if he were able to run for election. Without question he would carry the Florida electoral votes.
