Bucky Brooks calls Merriman signing
1B4IDie replied to Beerball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Got damn it. How many times do the actual numbers need to be posted in this thread? It's 5.25m in 2011 if he is on the roster during the season. 2.5 of that is various bonuses that can be spread over 3 years. Then if he meets the "2010" injury clause he gets 3M in 2012. If you want to average that would be 4.145M a season. (actually less because .5M of the bonuses hit the 2010 books.) That average assume though he was healthy and played in 2011. Otherwise he wouldn't have met the "2010 injury clause" and wouldn't get the additional 3M. Making this whole discussion moot. If he helps the Bills and meets performance incentives. 1.) it will be much more expensive and 2.) this whole discussion would be moot because he would be healthy and performing. -
It's entirely clear cut. If the NFL owners extort money from a television network to pay only NFL owners even if that television network cannot broadcast the NFL's product, and the money received by the NFL is contractually shared with the players, then there are a few problems with that situation. If you can't see that then you have lost your moral compus as well as not understanding the situation. The hot dog cart example is laughable. Then comparing this with players socking money away (which anyone involved in the NFL from a janitor to a President would have been silly not to do) is even more clueless then not understanding why manipulating a contract and not sharing the revenue is legally wrong. What is also hilarious is the "owners" are pro Union and the "players" are pro Business. Silly people see the word "owner" and start making assumptions and taking sides without understanding the actual situation. This isn't the Ford auto workers vs Ford. It's not the same.

Bucky Brooks calls Merriman signing

I understand your point but the numbers are actually I bit different than 2.5 Million that was originally released It's 2.5M if he gets cut in August before the season starts. If he is on the roster for the 2011 Season (and doesn't play) it's actually 5.25 If he is on the roster in 2012 and meets the "2010 injury clause" it's then 8.25 I'm in the "Hey it's only 2.5M I think its worth a gamble crowd." At 5.25M I'm not so gung-ho. Either way I'm not the GM and I don't think the Bills have a salary cap issue so its not likely Merriman is on the roster in place of someone else. -

No. You ran with 8.25M for 1 year. It's 8.25M over 2 years if he meets the "2010 injury clause" in 2011. -

Really man? Someone posts a random number and you just run with it. Here is the actual article; http://blogs.buffalonews.com/billboard/2011/01/merriman-gets-good-guarantee.html remembering that NFL contracts are not guaranteed and if Merriman is still banged up in 2011 and doesn't get on the field the Bills can cut him after 2011. My Math adds up to this for 2011: 2011 Base = 2.75M (Not Guaranteed) 2010+2011 Bonus = 1M (1.5M bonus amortized over 3 years) Reporting Bonus = .5M "workout" Bonus = .5M Then if he is cut after 2011 season 2012 Bonus hit = .5M So Basically if he is on the regular season roster and doesn't play at all in 2011 he will cost the Bills 5.25M. If he get on the field in 2011, and meets the "2010 injury clause" requirements, he will get an extra 3M in 2012. That's where the 8.25M number over TWO years comes from. If he can't make it through Pre Season and gets cut in August he costs the Bills 2.5M. -

Yes, a thousand times yes. -
I think SDS is playing with the buttons on Sabres Space. He said he is using Sabres Space as a test bed, and that there will be some new stuff on here as well. I think I'd like the +- buttons.

Bruce Smith's son Alston follows dad to VA Tech
1B4IDie replied to Beerball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Nonsense. If he is good, he will play at VT. They're not going to keep a still growing 6-3 272 pound player than can contribute on the bench. It's not often that 18 year old D-lineman get significant PT at any major program anyway. Alston will have every chance to earn PT at VT. -

The article is nonsense, Highlighted by this sentence: So if he reaches the incentives of 9.25 million that he would in fact not be "done." If he doesn't reach the incentives then it's not a lot of coin. If it wasn't the Bills the article could read, "Bills GM makes shrewd move in signing Merriman. Merriman has to prove it on the field in order to see the money on payday." -
Take it easy, bro. When the deal gets done next week, the only thing that happened was Free Agency got pushed back 4 months. Big whoop. You should boycott ESPN for acting like chicken little. ESPN loves the lockout because it gives them something to talk about in the slow sports season. I don't know what they're gonna do in 2012 no lockout and no Brett Favre.

I hope he's redundant with the Lombardi trophies. -

Well butter my buns… the Bills might be forced…

Notice the Buffalo Bills are not mentioned, because they are actually in the middle of the road as far as spending goes. It's not that the Bills didn't spend money, its that they didn't know how to spend money. -

Winner by KO, SJBF! and that is why SJBF, is "The Man" I'm just going to reply with this quote the next time WEO feels like "petulantly disagreeing" on a thread that sparks my interest. -

And the reigning Champion of Straw-man Arguments, Mr. WEO, with an amazing record of 2500-2500. Since he argues points that he makes up and assigns to someone else. Feel free to retire on top at any time, no one will mind. SJBF never said the team that spends the most money wins the most games or championships. -

Sure. Whatever the NCAA deems is fair over the current $0.00. I'm just throwing $50.00 out there because it seems economically possible based on the revenue the players help to generate. Sure go ahead, I'm cool with that too. -
Incorrect lack of QB is why we've had so many problems. If Fitzy is the QB let him have some input on who he wants. My guess is Roscoe is on the list. Lee, not so certain.
-
The line was not bad week 2 against Green Bay. So your theory is just a theory.
-
That's my point. You got two guys going nowhere quick, why bother.
-
If that's what you think of Evans and Parrish then I would agree with you. However Lee Evans isn't starting to look good. I'll give you Roscoe but personally I rather have Donald Jones in the slot. Let's not kid ourselves here Buddy Nix isn't going to resign either. Look at the San Diego roster he likes his WRs big. So you are correct if you look at Lee and Roscoe like that. However I don't see them like that.
-
I think Roscoe would be the odd man out. More expensive and he only has 1 year left on his contract. You might even be able to get a 5th or 6th for him in a trade. St. Louis could be interested in having him on the turf for their young QB. Fitzy had a strangely glowing review of Roosevelt. Something to the extend of, "If I throw it in his direction no matter what he finds away to come down with it." Anyone remember his first catch? He looked like he had two guys Velcro-ed on him and he popped up inbeteren the defenders and cane down with the ball. If Easely has speed with that frame he would make it. I think if Donald Jones has a good camp he is safe, at the end of the season before he got injured he looked like Fitzy's GoTo guy. Stevie Johnson is safe. That leaves Lee Evans. You know he won't be on the Roster in 2013. The benefit of keeping him is he has to put up numbers to get a good FA offer. So he will be personally motivated to have the stats the team expects from him. (1000+ yards. 8-12. TDs) However if St Louis would give a 5th or 6th for Roscoe. We could get a 3rd or 4th for Evans. If the young guys perform well if there is a camp this would be the time to move the vets. However if there is no camp Lee Evans an Roscoe become much more valuable to the Bills. This will be a camp battle that will be closely watched by all, let's hope there is a camp to battle test these kids. Evans was absent from Camp fitz. Lee was working out with JP. ("hey Lee go long. Great catch! Hey lee go long. Great Catch! Man, why aren't we in the Pro Bowl!?")

Should the Bills re-sign Drayton Florence?

The answer is "yes" and Michael Terry is wrong it won't be that expensive.
