  1. I like a contrarian draft strategy. I've been ridding the WR, WR, train for about 5 years now as every else goes RB RB crazy. And I have a pretty good League winning percentage and about a 85+% playoff rate. (I only play in 12 team leagues, 10 team leagues are for ladies) The problem is now the WR, WR strategy is envogue. It's in every rag and every web site. So there are some deals at RB in the early rounds. So for example Matt Forte was sitting there in the 3Rd round! I know MArion Barbarion went to chicago, but he is a Dual threat RB, he was a top10 back in 2010, because everyone went WR crazy. I'm in two money leagues (12 teams, 10yards=1 pt. no ppr) I went WR, WR and Went RB RB.The league that I went WR, WR, RB, WR - I'm dominating. (Gennings, Megatron, Forte, Lloyd) (The rest of the league was going RB crazy) The League I went RB, RB, QB, RB (#4 Charles, #21Forte, #28 Rivers, #43 Best) I'm geting schooled. But I thought Forte and Best were just huge values at #21 and #45. I hated the Charles pick, but I felt boxed in. It went Foster, APete, Rice and I wanted Rice. I didn't like CJ2K and Jax just seemed like a mess and possible knee for MJD. So that left AJ80? Looking back maybe MJD was the better play there. In that league they were going QB\WR crazy. Either way it looks like the WR\WR is winning route right now. But a healthy Charles and 4000 yard Rivers may have turned it the other way. I guess I typed that for therapeutic reasons as "There's always next year" isn't looking too hot.
  2. I vote Freddy for PTM. Pay The Man!!!!!!
  3. Wow! Nice work. I wonder how this compares to other NFL teams?
  4. It's not rare to have super star players between the ages of 30-35. You just pointed out a handful. Contracts smoncontracts. I don't believe the OP or anyone else is talking contracts. Even so QBs, WRs, D-Linemen, O-lineman "superstars" all get pretty monster Contracts that take them from their late twenties to their early 30s. Now you're right that a 34 year old "superstar" probably isn't going to get another big contract. But there isn't a "myth" that any one of them is "over the hill" and not going to perform past 30. That 30 number is attached to RBs.
  5. There is no myth that 30+ atheletes are over the hill. The myth doesn't exist. Anyone that thinks it exists is mistaken. The myth you're most likely wanting to discuss pertains to RBs 30+ RBs are over the hill, which tends to be true more often than false.
  6. Always take a dome kicker in the last round! Hmm I already lost Charles, now it looks like best. In 2010 "There's always next year" was meant for the rest of the league as I took the championship. Now it looks like "There's Always next year" is meant for me. Maybe I'll put in a claim . . .
  7. Agreed that it would be a risk, however am I certain one of 31 other teams in the NFL will take that risk. Look at the reported price for Palmer and he hasn't put up number to back up that price in many years. Fitzy leaving the Bills is a larger risk for the Bills, imo.
  8. I disagree, The NFL is a copycat league, and Chan's "genius" offense isn't revolutionary. Spread it out and dip and dunk, it's a trend where the Bills happen to be an early adopter. Fitzy will be able to run a spread offense well in any city. A team looking to adopt that style of offense would gladly pay Fitzy ~10Mil on the open market; especially if one of his favorite young receivers is a FA too and tags along for the ride.
  9. Really? Because the rest of the NFL, is going to say, "oh we won't give a back to back 3000+ yard 20+ TD QB a $10 million contract because the Bills want to see how he performs the rest of the year." Clueless
  10. The guaranteed part counts against cap, not the salary. You're basically amortizing the signing bonus and guaranteed money over the term of the contract. So giving Freddy 9 mil (much deserved) in guaranteed money over 3 years, will cost the Bills 3 Mil against the cap for the next 3 years. The great thing is if you do this mid season (Like this week). It will cost 3 Mil in 2011, 3 mil in 2012, and 3 mil in 2013. So even if he isn't on the roster you get to spread out the cap hit. There is also funny money ways to spread it out. Since they are so far below the salary cap they may want to take the cap hit upfront and in 2012. Either way its not a lot o money, all things considered, and it is the right thing to do. Taking care of players that perform beyond their contract motivates the 7th rounders and UDFA, they know if they do well they'll eventually get paid by the organization. Not paying Freddy tells the young players and the rest of the NFL if you want to get paid you have to go to another team because Buffalo will not pay you even when you perform.
  11. The fins de-gilled themselves. I hope this goes straight to Rex's fat head. You barely beat a horrible Dolphins team that basically beat themselves. If they only have 4 drops instead of 10. The fish win. Live it up while you can. This is going to be a long season for the Jests.
  12. Finally some people that are making sense. Thank you. Seriously, it's not like we spent the last 10 years trying to find a QB or anything, You can just find one then pay them whatever you feel like because they're so easy to find. We just didn't want a QB for the last decade.
  13. Imagine the 'Fins loose the Luck bowl and SJ13 and Fitzy are free agents. They draft say Cousins from Michigan st in the second or third. They go o-line, o-line with the other two picks out of their first 3. You don't think they'd give a 6 $60 mil contract to Fitzy (Knowing it may mean 3 years) and an 8 year $75 million to Stevie? In a freaking heartbeat. You get a WR-QB combo that already has the timing. That goes right into Place with Brandon Marshall and Daniel Thomas and you don't break the bank. Plus you just killed a division rival. Worth every penny. All this while the Cheap Bills and cheap Bills fans got to save a million because in a vacuum "he's not worth 10 a season." PAY YOUR BILLS! This scenario is not outlandish and don't think Fitzy and SJ and their agents aren't smart enough to go to market as a package deal. Never happened before but letting a QB with Fitzy's resume and a WR with SJ's resume and age become free agents doesn't happen too often individually.
  14. Freddy should get 3 year (wink) 18 mil. About 9 guaranteed. And 5 year 48 mill about 20 guaranteed makes sense for Fitzy. SJ13 is gonna be a lot more than people are going to like because he is going to command a lot in FA. Top 10 money. You're paying for potential. If SJ walks, with his blooming leadership and buffalo pride it would be a shame. Even after all this, the Bills are still way under the cap.
  15. This shows the clueless nature. There is no such thing as a raise and no such thing as a binding contract in the NFL. The only thing that counts is the upfront money. The years are there so the team can spread the cost of the upfront money. So you give Freddy a "raise" by giving him a contact extention and you can cut him any day of the week. It's very rare a player actually plays out a contract. 5 years means nothing. Do you understand that? You can cut him if he doesn't perform. The numbers work where you can still draft a first round QB and still afford a 1st or second round QB for atleast 2 seasons. Cut Fitz in the 3rd year and have the theoretical, easy to find "franchise" QB you just drafted start. No big deal.
  16. Do you not realize that 5 year 50 million contract IS cheap. It doesn't lock you in to anything more than 3 years and the signing Bonus and it doesn't stop you from signing FAs or drafting a QB. Why would anyone want to risk going into 2012 with Thigpen as the starter? This is the NFL you can cut a player at any time. When was the lat time a back to back 3,000+ yard 20+ TD QB was a free agent? No franchise would be stupid enough to let that QB hit free agency, except for maybe the cheap Bills and their cheap fans. +1 I think your missing that a team that wants to be competitive in the future and has basic understanding of math and football business would do what you described. A team that cant spell W would play low ball and then watch their key piece walk in FA so they can save a million bucks. Even though they have a salary minimum they have to meet in the future. If Fitzy walks, Kelsay will probably be happy they can extend him again to get to the league minimum. Genius!
  17. For a conditional 5th? That seems like a GD deal to me. Damn it! Now I have 3 STL Wrs on one of my Fantasy teams. I have Lloyd, MSW, and Gibson, I drafted MSW and picked up Gibson, thinking someone has to catch Bradford's passes. Someone has to catch Bradford's passes, right? Hey if it's LLoyd I still win, I guess.
  18. That's just another "CJ SHOULD be a WR" thread This is a "Looks like CJ IS a WR, now what?" thread.
  19. Since the moment CJ Spiller was drafted the talk of converting him to a WR has been a constant theme. Well on Sunday, it sure looked like CJ was our 4th WR. He didn't line up in the backfield and motion out, he just lined up as a WR from the start of many plays on Sundays. Now that you finally get what you want, you don't want it anymore?
  20. Cowgirls could move the chains and gave it to Brady. He was in FG range in less 90 secs. Then threw the game winner to Hernandez. Cowgirls suck.
  21. +1 You had a big gainer that was underthrown. You got to go back to it. SJ13 pwned Webster on that move. You have to take advantage of that. Every coach in the NFL would go back to that at some time and expect the pass not to be underthrown a second time.
  22. If you're being objective than you have to give him credit for all throws he throws when the player is triple covered, the come from behind wins, and the NFL's fastest decision. Then weigh that against a little scattered armed-ness. Yeah he wasn't drafted in the first round, but there is no reason not to keep riding the Amish Rifle for the next few seasons. Sure draft a QB in the first 32 picks if the draft works that way but freaking sign Fitzy.
  23. Stevie burned Webster on both of those INTs. He was steps in front of him off the line. If the ball is thrown our in front and down the field there is no poll because the Bills win by 11. It's crazy how they were mirror plays and Fitzy under throws them both AND Webster actually makes a semi difficult play on the ball both times. It was a hard angle for Stevie to play defense he was down the field and the defender was inbeteren him and the underthrown ball. It was clearly Fitzy's fault both times. The team looked like they partied hard in NYC last night. And Florence looked like he traded jerseys with McKelvin. Altogether a lack luster effort that could have resulted in a W.
  24. Farvre didn't throw ints at critical moments? You might want to fact check that one. Fitz has played the same way for the last 6 games and last year as well. He takes risks and sometimes is scatter armed. That is the way it is. Nothing has changed.
  25. You're being anything but objective. If you're going to play gunslinger football with your QB, he is going to throw some ints. Both of those were underthrown and both were very good plays by Webster. You live by the gun, you die by the gun. You're being more than a little reactive.
