Where did you get Top 5 money from? That is complete BS.

Yeah because only NFL scouts are allowed to post their opinion of College prospects on this board and they're 100% infallible. Look at my record from 2011. Cam Newton = Check (and there was a debate) Von Miller = Wrong Marcell Dareus = Check (but there wasn't much debate if he would have an impact) Jack Locker = Wrong (so far he looked way better than I expected in his injury time play) Julio Jones = Check (and there was debate of whether he would be a top 10 pick) Mason Foster = Who I loved and wanted over Kelvin Sheppard looks like a stud Sam Acho = Who I wanted in the 4th over Searcy looks great and had 7 sacks. I'm not an NFL scout but I'm not a dingle berry poster that spouts off nonsense about draft prospects. Yeah because QBs all suck once they turn 28 in the NFL Seriously dude, looks at RGIII's wind up again. When you watch your YouTube clips. Focus on his throwing motion. Like I said it concerns me. You add that with his slight build and I don't think he is a plug and play QB.

Once again, "To all the trade up/down" people
1B4IDie replied to OCinBuffalo's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Wait, teams don't trade up in the NFL draft or the Bills don't trade up? You may want to ask the Cleveland Browns, Washington Redskins, and New England Patriots if they think teams Do Not trade up in the NFL draft. If anything trading up is more likely because of the rookie payscale being reset. No one wanted a top 3 pick including the teams that had them because of the price tag, prior to 2011. Now the $$$ are easy to handle. That being said the ridiculous posts on this board with hair brained trade up/trade down scenarios are sad. 99.9% of these posts are not based anywhere in reality. 99.9% of them can be completely ignored. 100% of those posts will not be effected by this thread. Don't get me started on how wrong you are about the "top 10-20 picks are as close to the only sure thing there is" That couldn't be further from the truth it is so wrong and so misguided it's incomprehensible that someone wouldn't feel embarrassed writing it down. If anything the talent level is flat. There isn't a big difference between the "#15" prospect and the "#115" prospect. Look at last year with Mason Foster, Sam Acho, and Chris Neil all of which the Bills could have picked well after the top 20 all contributed in their rookie year and that's just off the top of my head, and there weren't many doubters that Mason Foster, for example, was a "sure thing." Most everyone thought Mason Foster could play in the NFL. He went in teh 3rd round because it is just easier to find guys like Mason Foster because there is SO MUCH TALENT in the draft. The Top 20 is reserved for physical freaks of nature that you can't find later in the draft. Sam Acho is a sure thing to contribute in the NFL imo, but you can't find a 6'1" CB that can take it to the house anytime he is on the field like Patrick Peterson. The Top 20 isn't about being a "sure thing" its about game changing talent that you can't find anywhere else. That's why you don't take a "sure thing" Inside Linebacker in the Top20 or a "sure thing" Right Guard in the Top20 (unless you're stupid) you can find "sure thing" ILB or "sure thing" Guards in rounds 3-7. Blaine Gabbert, Jake Locker, and Christian Ponder are anything but "sure thihngs" LOTs like Tyron Smith are anything but "sure things." you just can't find many human beings like Tyron Smith in the world. Someone that huge with that quickness just doesn't exist that often. He is not a "sure thing" He is a physical freak of nature that you have to take a shot on, because if they do pan out; Then you have yourself a game changer. Someone that can take Ls and help them turn to Ws. A guy that might be able to shutdown all World Pass rushers on the Giants, Eagles, and Redskins is worth the risk for the Cowboys, but far from a "sure thing". -
I would love that! Seems more science fiction than reality. I don't think Buddy Nix and AJ smith are exactly Buddy Buddy. If they were CJ Spiller would be a San Diego Charger. It would have made more sense for the Chargers to move up to get Spiller than to get Ryan Mathews, and with the speed that Buffalo ran to the podium something seemed odd there. Complete speculation but it doesn't add up that San Diego wanted to move up, the Bills didn't need a RB, and yet the Bills rushed to take a RB. So making this deal, which would be a boon for Buffalo seems less than likely. If we stay in the 3-4 hybrid I like the picks. I'm thinking Zebrie is going to run up the board come draft day. He has some serious talent and a team will take him in the first. So if we got him at 48, it would be a steal. Also EJ Manuel is there in the 4th in your mock which I think is more what Chan wants, Fitzy was the 3rd leading rushing QB in 2010, and had over 200 yards rushing in 2011. I don't think this is by accident. Cousins isn't exactly mobile, but he looks like a good to great pure pocket passer. Sorry to be a debbie downer but this looks more like fan spank material than anything in reality.
-
I watched him play only about 6 games in 2010 & 2011 I watched Newton play almost every game in 2010. So I haven't watched RGIII as much as I watched Newton in college. Watch where RGIII release starts. He keeps the ball low. Its around the top of his numbers. This is not a good place for the ball to be. I don't care about the hype about this kid says, he is not ready to start in the NFL. Yes he has about 2000 more yards passing than Netwon had in his Heisman year but that doesn't mean he is a more polished passer. Watch the wind up and delivery of RGIII. To me its not where it would need to be to get the ball out as fast as it needs to get out in the NFL. I mean I'm not an NFL scout but I don't see an NFL ready prospect in RGIII like Luck or Weeden. That doesn't mean he won't be in the NFL a stud QB in 2013 or beyond .
-
You are a Schmuck, aren't you? You're reading the question wrong. The question isn't which QB would you rather have. The question is would you do what it takes to get Luck, meaning trading away your next 3 years of first round picks + mid rounders, do what it takes to get RGII meaning trading away your next 2 years of first round picks + mid rounders, trade or sign Rob Johnson, I mean Matt Flynn or stick with your Fitz. Oh yeah some OC named Manning is on the list too, but do we need Gailey and another OC?

Report: Indy Colts' short list for new GM includes ...

It's real simple to imagine "the plan". This plan can be imagined and vaguely makes sense it could also be just complete fallacy. The story put together by Bills' fans is something like this: Wilson knows Nix from way back. Wilson knew his house was a mess and he had no football people in it anymore. He went and got a football person he trusts, and asked him to find a guy that is a football guy that can take over as GM. Nix recruited Whaley, again, a bit of coup as Whaley was looked at in the small circle of NFL executives as an up and comer. Nix is re-orging the mess in the executive suite at One Bills Drive as close to what the other 31 teams have in place as he can. Then will step down to the heir apparent. Wilson needed help connecting the dots from football people in 1990 to football people in 2011 and Nix was the man for the job. Again I think that narrative that is pretty easy to piece together but who knows if its true. I for one can see some merit to the story. -
Seriously Newton was so clearly talented the comparisons to Tebow or Russell were so far off. RGIII is not as good as Newton, lets just start there. I personally thought comparing Newton to McNair was closer and Newton even exceeded what I thought he would do this early in his career. RGIII is a hard to compare imo to other QB. Mini-Newton is lazy but not together far off. I worry that RGIII is more of an injury concern in the NFL, like Vick. I don't think RGIII is as polished a passer as Newton. Anyone that thought Newton couldn't pass, couldn't see past his rushing TDs. I don't think RGIII is as plug and play-able as Cam Newton right now. I think RGIII would need a year to learn the pro game but with his intelligence and handwork RGIII can pick it up. You can stick him under center as a starter in 2012 in the NFL and his athletic talent will take over but I think it could slow his progression long term to becoming an NFL QB. If he comes out to the draft in 2012 I'd like to see go to a team that can sit him for a 8-16 games like the Bills, than a team that will throw him into the frying pan like the Dolphins. I personally believe RGIII is going back to Baylor for another year, 1.) He needs to in order to be a better NFL QB. 2.) He is smart enough to know he needs it, and will work on polishing his passing game. 3.) He knows the NFL will be there in 2013 if he performs well and works hard in 2012 and he has confidence in himself to perform well and work hard 4.) The Rookie pay after the lockout encourages QBs to go back a year because it is easier to "reach" on a QB in the draft a la the 2011 draft with Ponder and Dalton. In 2010 or 2009 no way a team takes them that early with the $$$ they would have to cough up. So even if RGIII has a "so-so" 2012 he'll still be a top 12 pick.

Boo and Yah Seriously Fitz can throw the ball 65+ yards in the air no problem. It is not a "strength" problem. It is throwing a catchable ball anywhere near the receiver and knowing when to throw a rainbow way out in front of the receiver and when to throw it on a line to the spot the receiver is going to run to; which you can summarize as "touch." And yes reps, reps, reps and more reps with the WRs can improve this tremendously. With no hold out, and with his perceived work ethic i.e. organizing "Camp Fitz in Arizona." It is possible that this improves. Hopefully they sign his best WR as he requested. Not signing a back to back 1,000 yard receiver because he celebrates too hard, is really going to be hard to choke when he signs with San Franciso to complement Crabtree or New Orleans to replace Meachum for a cheap $5-6M a season. Man that would just be a shame. His celebrations won't seem so bad when your WR core is Donald "Never Will Be" Jones, Marcus "Never Was" Easley, Derek "I'm not Mario" Haggan, and David "I'm now the best WR?" Nelson.

You're forgetting the second best, imo, LOT Mike Adams Ohio State. He is a senior where, Kalil, Reiff, & Martin are all Juniors. I like my O-LineMEN seasoned. If they don't go Coples, I'd like a real LOT on the roster, If they don't go Coples or LOT, Dre Kirkpatrick just looks like a special talent. Yeah its not a trench player and I like Beef, but its rare to see a 6'2" corner that can play like that way. With Aron Williams and Kirkpatrick you might be able to get some coverage sacks. Yes it pains me to even consider another DB in the first round. This board would explode if they took Kirkpatrick but the guy is a major baller. If they're all off the board then you have the Floyd, Jeffrey depute. In my mind the Bills BPA board should look like this: Luck RGIII Weeden (yes this is my board and I know he is 28, but this young man looks plug and play ready to me) Kalil Quinton Coples (if the decision for the 4-3 is made) - Upshaw if we're doing 3-4 Hybrid mess Mike Adams Dre Kirkpatrick Floyd/Jeffrey/Blackmon - Probably in that order. (If Blackmon measures 6'3" then he jumps up to the head of the pack but mine eyes tells me he is 6'1" like it says on his stats page) -

I'm guessing that was sarcasm. I live in the DC area, I grew up in Buffalo, I travel for a living. I've spent time in Napianapolis. It is clean but is not a better City to live in. I don't think anyone except for the people born in Napianapolis would rather live in Napianapolis over Buffalo. I don't want to live in either city but the Buffalo loathing has to stop somewhere. Napianapolis is no where to live. -

Whaley is not going anywhere. Buddy Nix brought him in to take over as GM. This was clear to everyone in the NFL including Whaley. The Bills could not clean house, including Whaley. The Fans may want to clean house but it "ain't gonna happen" Whaley was a bit of coup to bring in house. Whaley is looked at as one of the up and coming executives in the NFL. His mark was placed on the Bills 2011 draft. If the organization's decision is lose Whaley or keep Nix. Nix actually will be retiring; like the rumor mill that is swirling is saying. Whaley spent years in Pittsburgh, so he is not clamoring for life in the big city. He just bought a nice house by Delaware Park. I don't think he is trying to leave. I think he knows the plan is for him to take over and he will live up to the plan. Nix isn't getting any younger and they probably already discussed the timeline for the transition. "Indianapolis is a nice place to live?" That is the first time that has ever been said. It is called Napianapolis as in ZZzZZZZZ there is nothing to do but take a Nap. But yes Whaley could take the bird in hand rather than a bird in the bush, but I'd be surprised if the Bills grant permission for an interview. They can't let Whaley go. It would be a death-nail type of brain drain, He would take his team with him and the Bills would essentially be rebuilding again. -
I interpreted the post differently. I think TT did a great job of breaking down Lee Evans impact on the game. I'd day 6 catches for 100 yards and a TD is a good benchmark for a WR. A "#1 WR" in the NFL should have, say, 5-10 games a season with numbers like that. Not all 16. So if you look at Lee Evans, lets call them, "impact stats" you can see Lee Evans had very little statistical impact on games, (Yes he was the most amazing decoy in NFL history) but he never actually contributed much to moving the chains or getting in the end zone (Which I would say is much more important for a "#1" WR than being a decoy for the "#2") (If TrippleThreat came up with his measuring stick on his own {6rec,100yards,1TD) he should publish an article about this. Especially for Fantasy Football, I would like to see all the NFL WRs measured against this stick over the last 3 years and see who is constantly a stud. There is less turnover year over year in the Top WRs as compared to the Top RBs so being able to pick the stud WRs that have more "Impact games" would be a huge advantage. Seriously you should write something for footballguys or fantasyshark. I'm sure they would run with it.)

Thanks for pointing that out. James Hardy was a horrible pick. The guy was real big and stood in the back of the end zone and jumped to catch the few TD the horrible Indiana football team scored. When Hardy realized he wasn't gonna make it to the NBA he tried to become a skinny Antonio Gates. The only saving grace is that Limas Sweed, and Malcolm Kelly, who I had ranked way way way way way way higher than James Hardy both turned out to be scrubs. Sweed couldn't get out of the dog house and supposedly didn't work hard enough for coach Tomlin and Kelly was always injured. Who knows if the Bills would have made the right call and picked Sweed or Kelly if they would have faired better in Buffalo, but Hardy was not representative of a "Tall WR." Like you said he couldn't run any routes, His one route was "Go Stand in the end zone." There is really no comparison to the much more well rounded Jeffrey. Jeffrey still has lots to learn at the NFL level but will come into any team with a good set of tools that should be able to help from Day 1. I still think there is some debate over Floyd and Jeffrey but either way both could be great additional to the Bills offense. Restating my belief that if the Bills are going to transition back to a full time "4-3" (which they should) then you have to take Coples if he is on the board. Like you can't even think about any other options. It would have to be a CJ Spiller-esque rush to the podium. So don't screw the D. You can't play a 4-3 without an edge rusher. Kelsay can hold down the other end, (its something he is actually better than average at) You would have a huge hole in the 4-3 without another DE. It's like playing a 3-4 without any LBs. (We just saw that movie for the last two years.) -
He did fair badly. he even faired badly when he got his gift sacks. I question that you watched him play or that you know what good LB play looks like, after all you're a Bills fan you haven't seen good LB play for atleast 5 years.
-
To anyone that watched the sacks, Which I saw 4 of them, can see this. Not to mention they were coverage sacks on broken down plays where Maybin was first easily blocked then tracked down the QB as they were trying to scramble. Does anyone have the Sack Yardage on his sacks. I doubt it was more than 3 yards a sack. 2 were about a half a yard from the LOS. To anyone that only saw the stats on MOnday they thought, "WTF!!! Why did we cut this guy!!!"

Thanks, I didn't want to keep beating a dead horse but Jeffrey is not a speedster, 1 trick pony, deep threat WR. He can route all the routes and does. Plus with his giant wingspan he can catch those Amish Rifle misfires. -
The Bills need not worry about price. They are about $20 mill under the salary cap. Yeah you're down 4 injured WRs plus you bench your leading WR, and you get Ruvell Martin and Derek Haggan in the lineup. Which I would rather have Mario Haggan out there over Lee Evans at this point.

You're being obtuse. There is not one of the 32 teams that would take Steve Smith in his prime over Calvin Johnson in his prime. Not ever, not with any combinations of QBs or offenses or coaches or supporting cast. -
I wouldn't say it has anything to do with money. Lee Evans can only run in a straight line really fast. He is not a good route runner and doesn't seem willing to become a good route runner. You need to be able to run a whole route tree to be part of this offense. Lee Evans doesn't have a place in this offense at all. There are much better options in Free Agency.
-
He had no place in the Gailey offense before the trade. He has no place in the Gailey offense in 2012. Why bother?

T.O. was not highly touted coming out of college, Skip Bayles never watched him play at Tennessee Chattanooga. He probably did see him play in the Senior Bowl but that's about it. I can kind of see the comparison if you compare his 49ers days to Blackmon's OSU days but now you're comparing the NFL to College Football 10+ years removed, so I find it a strange comparison not to mention I don't see Blackmon having the size advantage that T.O. had especially back in the late 90s. Dez Bryant and Michael Crabtree comparisons are actually pretty close in my opinion. -

There is a big difference between a 6'1" WR and a 6'4" WR that has the same speed and route running ability. And Actually you need to look at physical attributes when you are drafting a Top 10 pick because you can't count on picking freaks of nature that can play despite size. Not to mention would you rather have Calvin Johnson or Steve Smith? I would contend that 99.9% of people would want Calvin Johnson, the other 0.1% are being obtuse. -
Screw The Defense In Round One
1B4IDie replied to BuffaloBaumer's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't think Blakmon looks 6'3" to my eyes. I believe he is listed at 6'1" and it is pretty rare to see a college player have that big of difference going up in their favor; usually the stats are over inflated. (Sanchez McCoy, Kellen Moore, Crabtree, etc etc etc etc) http://www.okstate.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/blackmon_justin00.html So I will say this if Blackmon is actually 6'3" that will change my opinion a bit. Again I'm not saying Blackmon is bad and I'm just saying he doesn't have the physical tools to be a "Megatron" or "T.O" those two were and are physical freaks that cannot be matched no mater how well Blackmon may run routes. So if Blackmon is measured at 6'3" hmmm . . .I may put him above Floyd but it also makes the conversation moot as he will definitely be off the boat before the Bills pick.
