the data points to some maddening conclusions: as nice a guy as mularkey is, maybe he's just not that good a coach. Anyone think of that? It's a distinct possibility. I already know that Jerry Gray is overrated. I figured as much before this season, now I know it's true. He's not as good as he thinks he is. We have the worst 3rd down defense in the league. WE have the worst run defense in the league. Good luck getting a head coach job, Jerry. This game is coach vs. coach. Scheme vs. Scheme. Gameplan vs. Gameplan. Sure, the players make mistakes, but they play less a role than the coaching staff. That's why Belichick can win a superbowl two years ago with street free agents in his secondary. That's why Andy Reid has a good team no matter what injuries happen or free agents that depart. We don't have upper echelon coaches. And if we do, they certainly haven't proven it yet. I'm getting sick of hearing the same stuff from this team. I've long been a defender of Tom Donahoe, but those days are over. He's gonna have to earn me back onto his side. He said "fasten your seatbelts", but we're riding the tea cups.

If they don't bench losman right now, I don't think they're interested in winning. the kid can't get it done, bottom line. maybe next year.

the saints will be Hornless, most likely. I hear he hurt his hammy. We could only be so lucky. Stallworth is good but Clements should handle him. Just stop Deuce. Still, they'll want to win for the fans there, and it'll be "a story". I hope Mularkey understands that he CANNOT keep this game close, because it'll be ripe for the giving. That is, if it's close, and the saints fans are into it, I wouldn't be surprised to see the phantom holding calls start coming out on behalf of the saints and their "story", if you know what I mean. Paranoid? Nah, I've seen enough to consider it a genuine concern in a close game. Stay ahead by two scores, or we're in the danger zone.

Yea, I watched it too. Or at least the parts I could stomach. I'm repeating myself here, but hey. What pisses me off is that the Eagles showed the world how to shut down Vick and the Falcons in the championship game last season: YOU DON'T BLITZ HIM AT ALL. You play disciplined gap control defense and force his RECEIVERS to beat you, which they won't. What does Jerry Gray do? He blitzes Vick on EVERY FUGGIN PLAY. I blame the coaches first, players second. This is a coach's game. The chess pieces carry out orders. If their orders are flawed, they will appear to be flawed themselves. But that's not necessarily the case. POSITIVES: And there were some. After watching the TB and Falcons game closely, one thing is certain: The Bills DID indeed find a real gem in Mike Gandy. THERE IS NO DROP OFF at LT, folks. NONE. He's given up One sack through 3 games, and it was really Benny's man. He stood up Simeon Rice all game. He has one penalty in 3 games. He came at 1/10th the cost of the often injured Jennings. Only 3 games in, and Gandy has arrived. He's proven himself. We should all be happy about this. Benny Anderson is also a major upgrade over the stiffs we've had there for years. He's not real fast picking up some of the line stunts but he holds his ground man up as good as anyone, and if you're going to beat him you're going to have to bring a blitzer. We should be happy about this. Most of our sacks are coming from the right side. I like Villarial but he's not exactly the dominant force I expected him to be. He's solid and dependable and unspectacular. I'm unimpressed with the play of Greg Jerman and to a lesser extent Trey teague. The falcons pressured Losman quickly because they had it easy. They were in "pin your ears back" mode, and let's face it...Coleman is one of the best DLinemen in the league. I'm not surprised he had a great day. Losman is missing open receivers and you can see the frustration in the WR's body language. He seems to stare them down and say to himself, "he's open". But he still has the ball and then he runs to the right, finds nobody, and tosses it away. Many of Losman's incompletions are intentional throw aways. It tells a story. And the story is, I believe he's taken in so much information that he's forgotten how to just play football. Just PLAY. If he shows an inability to pull the trigger on time for another game, I do believe that it'll be time to play Holcomb. We want to WIN, not DEVELOP. Last year the Giants did it with a bigger investment than Losman, so why not us? They pulled Eli's ass on the grounds that he simply was not ready for all that the NFL would present. Losman isn't either. Oh, and by the way...If there's one guy who has shown me NOTHING through 3 games, it's Ron Edwards. Some contract year, huh Ron? Slacker...

Can't argue with much, if any, of that. What pisses me off the most is that the Eagles showed the world how to shut down Vick and the Falcons in the championship game last season: YOU DON'T BLITZ HIM AT ALL. You play disciplined gap control defense and force his RECEIVERS to beat you, which they won't. What does Jerry Gray, Mr. Overrated, do? He blitzes Vick on EVERY FUGGIN PLAY. offensively, Tom Clements seems to have no feel for a game. Why didn't we challenge their two undrafted street free agents in the secondary...over and over again? Why didn't we throw slants and comebacks and other quick routes to get moulds and evans running? It was vanilla, and it failed. I blame the coaches first, players second. This is a coach's game. The chess pieces carry out orders. If their orders are flawed, they will appear to be flawed themselves. But that's not necessarily the case.

A well "timed" mistake benefits Patsies...
nodnarb replied to TheMadCap's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yea, here's the article. sorry if it's already been posted. I'm scroll lazy. the pats seem to always find a way. even when they don't realize that they're finding a way, they find it. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2173143 on an unrelated not, the takeo loss is sinking in. i'm feeling pretty blue about it. i mean, it's takeo fuggin spikes. probably our best defensive player. the guy must be heartsick. I just hope he can return to true form, not 70% form like Sam Cowart. -
Get off Losman's back!
nodnarb replied to ***PetrinoInAlbany***'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This is silly. Yes, our D was the worst performer on Sunday, in terms of the 3 groups. But Losman was the worst INDIVIDUAL performer. Some of you are already starting to back off and say, well, it's going to take a while...we'll suck until he's ready. Don't forget: This team was supposed to win NOW, the same way the steelers did it with BRoethlisberger. The team referenced their situation many times. THey said they're winning NOW. They said it in a variety of ways. After game 1 it looked like they were demonstrating that vision. But the reality is we were just lucky to play such a horrid team to make us look better than we are. Losman is NOT seeing the field. He's not seeing wide open receivers. He's hesitating. He has addressed his failure to pull the trigger and yet it continues. I give him credit for his ownership but this glitch in his game is the worst glitch you can have. And it could haunt him his entire career. Which would make his career short. Hopefully he'll get over it. I Like the kid. But again, it's a coach's game. And mularkey has not impressed me yet. Like him, but I'm not impressed. If I could trade him right now for Saban, I would. Too negative for ya? Well, whatever. I'm sick of the same old story with minor edits. -
I am a very glass is half full type...but

My first thought about Takeo was, Oh Schit. THere goes the heart and sould of the D. But then I remembered, there's no excuse for our defensive performance, both the past two weeks as well as going forward. No excuses, and I hope we don't hear any from mularkey or donahoe. The pats lost the heart and soul of their D in Bruschi. And that's a defense with more heart and soul to lose. Tons more. Now they've lost their 'backup heart and soul' in harrison. Think their defense will sputter? Nope. THey only shut down a running back that tore it up the first two weeks, and limited the steelers to their worst offensive performance so far....and that's with two starting cornerbacks out. Bottom line: This is a coach's game. THe smartest coaches can win with nobodies. And you can have a team of probowlers stink it up if your coach isn't quite of the same caliber. What I fear is beyond the loss to Takeo and the downright WRETCHED performance of JP Losman. -
Did some of you guys finally have a revelation?
nodnarb replied to Peter's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
offensively, our main problem isn't protection. our main problem is we have a QB with the worst problem a QB can have: Hesitancy. We have open receivers. JP sees them occasionally. Yet even when he does, he's not pulling the trigger. 10 straight quarters of this, and 2 straight weeks where even JP has addressed it as a problem. He needs to get better yesterday, or any calls for Holcomb will be justified. Mularkey said they're not playing for tomorrow, but to win today. We'll see if he means that. One more game like this from Losman and I'm all for his benching. Not going to say something stupid like 'he sucks', after only his 3rd NFL start, but I wish he'd stop talking about his skills and actually demonstrate them. -
throw my hands up and PUKE throw my head back and PUKE throw my heels back and PUKE come on now (PUKE) Don't forget to say you will (puke) yea yea yea yea etc.

It's not the record, it's the DATA. We have a QB who, despite talking the talk, cannot walk the walk. He continually fails to pull the trigger when he sees open receivers. Do you really think Moulds and Evans weren't open against street free agents in their secondary? JP can't pull the trigger. He has the worst problem that a QB can have- hesitancy. And guess what folks, it's not going to change overnight. He had that problem at Tulane, too. That's all they talked about in his senior season. He was hesitant and over-relied on his legs to get things done, which resulted in him not getting it done. Look, the facts are suggesting some damning conclusions. Drew is suddenly a much better player in Dallas, Wisenhunt led the NFL in offense with a rookie QB and a 12-year RB, is repeating this again with a free agent RB, and we have a defense that is ONCE AGAIN talked about as being THIS or THAT because we had some easy games last year, when it continually fails to get the job done when it matters most - against tough teams in tough situations. I have turned, because the facts are there and I'm finally looking at them without allowing my opinion to be shaded by optimism. If I thought this team could beat the patriots and panthers EVEN MIAMI this year, I"d not be sweating a 1-2 start. But this is just the beginning of the pain, people. WE're talking 2003 pain. This team is average, period.

stfu about our defense being to blame
nodnarb replied to Anon Y. Mous's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
JP has been horrid, that much is true. But the defense only forced 2 or 3 punts ALL GAME. That's the definition of Not Getting It Done. Scoring 16 points, while not exciting, is often enough points to get you the win at home. Fact of the matter is, these coaches haven't proven anything yet. I like them, but they haven't shown us anything yet. Win one tough game against a top 10 team. Just one, and I'll have some data to consider. Hate to say it, but let's be honest, Wisenhunt has had a very similar situation as Mularkey and has done a hell of a lot more with it. We have better receivers, supposedly as good a line, and better running backs. But the performance difference is night and day. THis is a coaches game. The players are mere cogs in a machine. Look at the difference that mIke Nolan has made with the same players. Look at what Belichick has done with street free agents in his secondary. I won't make excuses about players. WHo missed what tackles and who was injured. This is Mularkey's responsibility, and if JP continues to FAIL to pull the trigger on open receivers, he has to play Holcomb. If he's committed to winning, he'll show us what the offense can do with Holcomb. Short of that, and we're headed for 6-10, 7-9, 8-8 at best. -
I hope the local media, who stink at asking question, will ask mularkey the right questions and say the right things. I'm not impressed by mularkey and gray's game plans, their team's execution of those flawed plans, and otherwise strong suits of this team...defense and special teams. We're getting outschemed, out played, and out coached by Son of "PlayOFFS?!"
-
Never thought I'd say it, but Moorman has become a liability. Bring in competition.
-
I wish our defense would shut the fug up about wanting to be the greatest and instead make plays when it matters. They got their confidence up playing rudderless teams last season and whenever they play a good offense they get schooled. I'm gonna say it. Our D is overrated. And HEY JERRY GRAY: Your strategy has fallen flat. Quit blitzing, idiot. Force Vick to make tight passes from the pocket. He can't. I Hope mularkey can wake this crew up, cuz we look like an average team.
-
another thing: i wanna see losman execute a timing pass - throwing the ball before his receiver is 'open' and in position. So far i've seen losman throwing passes to guys who are already open, giving DBs the opportunity to make a play. it'd be nice to see the defense make a play. grumble
-
I'm not impressed so far with the single most important aspect of any QB's game: Field vision. Granted, I'm not going to criticize a QB in his 3rd NFL game. It'll come. I hope it'll come. It'll come, right?
-
Every phase of the game is as pathetically awful as one could imagine. The offense looks worse than the Texans looked last week, and the defense looks like a typical Rams performance. I don't think I've ever seen us get run on like this. Defense: F Losman can't see what's going on out there, looks like sh--, threw three passes directly into Tampa defenders, who should have made picks. Losman: F OLine can't make a hole: F McGahee dancing: F Receivers: Where the fug is LEE?! ... F You know things are bad when Moorman is punting like schitt and the best player is Josh Reed. We look like a 6-10 team at best. Wow. What a wake-up call. We're not as good as we thought. Coaching and playcalling: F Looks like we also have key injuries to Big Mike and Fletcher (Where's Fletcher out there? Crowell looks like schitt.) You can't really have an opinion about the Bills after the last two weeks. Looks like the Jeckyl/Hide Bills of the Bledsoe era to me. Am I overreacting? Very well then, I'm overreacting. I have NOT seen a worse football game in all four phases. Coaching, Offense, Defense, ST. Four Fs.
-
It's my own fault for betting that Mike, the Most Overrated Coach of All Time Martz could ever outcoach Mike Nolan. If Martz isn't fired at the end of this season then the rams' owner is the dumbest broad in sports. 5 straight years he has let his special teams remain a liability. Said he was finally taking care of it this year. And again ST lost them the game. And I'm out in the first fuggin round in a HUGE king of the hill league. Todd, too. Fug

The KID looks good. The Defense looks better than I thought they'd look, which is to say, they look like worldbreakers. So far. We couldn't really ask for a better first quarter from JP and the D. Would like to see some holes for Willis. Other than that...

Texans Looking To Confuse Losman
nodnarb replied to BillsGuyInMalta's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
after watching the lions game, it wasn't nearly as bad as it sounded on the radio. losman made some nice throws and i love his release. he also seemed to be calm and in control. His receivers dropped 6 balls. I actually came away from that Lions loss feeling better about the team than I did after the Colts win. -
interesting that anttajj hawthorne didn't make it in oakland. he was almost unanimously considered no worse than a 3rd rounder by the draft sites, but went in the 6th. Goes to show that the teams know a lot that the writers don't. They also cut teyo johnson, a 2nd rounder in 2003. lotta high picks being tossed aside.
-
looks like the pittsburgh scouting staff whiffed on a few - they bagged a 2nd rounder, a 4th, and a fifth. one from last year I think. Quentin Griffin is a surprise, as is Hugh Douglass and Terry Pierce. Man...it's gonna be a shopping spree for the top 5 teams. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/8801521

I'm happy for Jim Leonard, but I'm astounded by these cuts. It was clearly strategy-based, and a lot of these choices come down to 'who do we think will clear waivers'. Clearly, they didn't think Leonard would make it through. We have 3 DEs, which is a shock, but I'm guessing that they consider Posey a backup DE and that Stamer can fill his role if need be. I'm happy with that - I don't think Posey is more of a playmaker than Stamer on the strong side, so it works out pretty nicely there. But I'm also surprised by *7* receivers. Holy fuggin schitt. I've never seen that before. Most teams carry 5. SEVEN receivers...and Reed, Wilson, Aiken and SMith had better make some fuggin plays by the time Parrish is ready...cuz one of them is gone at that point. We wont' finish the year with 7 receivers, that's for sure. Knew Ezekiel wouldn't make it cuz they like our depth at LB and nobody seems to take an injury there. We've been lucky. Last surprise is the OLinemen. Sape AND Bannan on DL but McFarland AND Tucker cut? Wow. ANd I wasn't at all impressed by the work of Greg Jerman so that came as a shock. In a nutshell, I don't think ANYBODY could have guessed this roster correclty.
-
we sorta listened to it while we had our fantasy draft, and to summarize my impression of the game, it sounded like this: flag, losman back, intercepted, penalty, dropped, false start, that one's coming back, flag, incomplete, no good, illegal procedure, sacked, sloppy, 2 yard gain, incomplete, flag, false start, losman back, dropped, intercepted, lindell, ugly, sacked.
