  1. OOoooo This must mean the nfl is racist. or it means that none of those guys are as attractive to head an organization as some other guys, who just so happen to be white. talking about this crap keeps the spirit of racism alive. When guys like ray rhodes are referred to as men instead of black men, or candidates instead of minority candidates, THEN we'll know that we've arrived, and progress has been made. In other words, Gimme a fuggin break.
  2. before we laugh from our high horses, I'd rather they DIDN'T hire Mularkey, because he knows our personnel better than anyone, and will help Saban schematically. Well, okay, Belichick probably knew our personnel better than Mularkey, but hey. But I don't think Saban and Mularkey's personalities are a good mix. From what I've read of Saban, he can be a right bastard to his assistants...and I just don't see Mularkey being happy in that role. But the really funny scenario is Mularkey as Vick's QB coach. There's not a snowball's chance in hell that Mularkey will take that gig. I think he'd rather be unemployed. That is NOT an enviable position. Remember, too...Mularkey was a successful coordinator. I would expect him to be successful in Miami, not a disaster. just my $0.02
  3. God help us if Marv brings him in when we already have McNally and Beichtol is available. God help us.
  4. Glad to hear Cottrell isn't in the running. It would be a sure-fire way to take us to 3-13.
  5. I agree that Donahoe's coaching hires are THE reason he's not here anymore, and that our near-term future is PAIN, but we don't really know if Weiss WANTED the job. For all we know, they met, discussed the job, and Weiss expressed an interest in keeping his options open for south bend. Missing on Fox stinks. That guy would have been a perfect fit in Buffalo. But we're going to do it again. We haven't beaten 'em, so we should join 'em, which means pluck a coach from the belichick tree. Ferentz. But It won't happen. And I'll take any bet that believes the Bills will win a Lombardi in Ralph's lifetime. Ah, Good Cheer.
  6. If it's down to two candidates, then what the hell was Marv referring to when he said that it would be "an exhaustive search" Sherman over Jauron, IMO. But I can't say I'd be woo-hooing.
  7. they also beat the panthers and broncos
  8. the seattle game was really the only impressive win in that stretch. we also faced the coachles, QB-less Browns, the coachless, QB-less 9ers, and the coachless, QB-less Dolphins. THere's half of your Mularkey run right there.
  9. Some Jets fans might be concerned about Mangini's youth and inexperience, but they shouldn't be. He's a whiz kid with 10 years of experience learning from the BEST, perhaps the best of all time. He understands how to take away what an offense does best. He understands the concepts that have allowed Belichick to exploit a team's weaknesses and minimize whhat they do well. NObody in the league has proven a better ability in this critical area of strategy, and it's a safe bet that Mangini will be a success in this league, if not immediately, then certainly within a short period of time. Because brains matter most. Jauron and Sherman are good coaches and good people but they're also both "line up and play" coaches. They're not known as brilliant strategists - they're football fundamentalists. And I don't think they'll have a shot in hell against the other AFC East coaches. But then again, a deep pessimism has kicked in ever since our addled owner went off on that "up the millimeters" Prozac rant at a formal press conference. I'm not feeling good about the entire franchise from the top down. For me, it's Kirk Ferentz or bust. And I would have liked Mangini.
  10. Now Jim Bates is a guy that I'd like to see take over this defense. Apparently he was really well liked in miami and look what he was able to do in a horrible situation. He's not "sexy" but I bet he could get the job done.
  11. Hey Johnny Two Posts, I have a bulletin for ya: Nobody knows if JP is going to be the next Jake Plummer or the next Ryan Leaf. You don't know what he needs. If anyone knows what he needs, it's Sam Wyche, and apparently Sam doesn't know if he'll be the next Jake Plummer or the next Ryan Leaf. As an armchair GM, you have some work to do. FWIW, I think Jake Plummer's level is JP's ceiling. If I had to bet, I'd say that's the best he can be. Which is good enough to win, mind you. But the younger crowd among us who are so geeked about JP and think he's the next Elway with the proper support system...please. Let's see him complete HALF of his attempts before we ascribe to the kid anything resembling honors.
  12. Brady, and there should be no discussion.
  13. The way Ralph handled this offseason so far, it's not likely that he'll get in until long after he's wormcake. You can't have a nearly-senile old man getting "more involved" with your football operations and still expect to attract coaching talent. I will be shocked if Wilson and Levy can pull this off.
  14. I still think Marv was just misunderstood, but still...I don't like the way this whole thing appears. I have to admit, a sense of 'seller's remorse' has settled into me re: donahoe. Not because I think he did a great job - he merely did a good job. He hit on my guys that we're thrilled about, a few who we don't know enough about, and a handful of failures. But you always wonder if this would have been the year that it all came together. Like it seemed to in 2003. And then in 2004. And again in 2005. I know, I know. It's the void that makes me feel this way. This team is in disarray, and I fear that this could get much worse bfore it gets better. if modrak leaves, or mcnally, or the other coaches, forcing the bills to fill so many spots in a short amount of time and with 9 other teams doing the same. We could very easily end up with a bunch of rejects. Rejects with an all-new offense to teach. Don't minimize what a grave setback this is to JP. It took him long enough to learn Mularkey's offense. Now he has to unlearn all that and learn a new one. I *did* say that this was a BAD year to lose a coach...there's too much competition and too few good candidates this year. Which is why I'm pissed and mularkey for quitting. What a pu$$y to leave JP and his draft picks hanging like that. I thought he was tough. I thought he was the kind of guy who would NEVER give up. Donahoe just didn't get it right here, but I guarantee he'll get it right elsewhere. Buffalo, where coaches and players come to sharpen their skills for use elsewhere. marv has the selling job of his life ahead of him, and he has no experience in that role. Just be prepared to have another high pick in the 2007 draft, folks. There's no way in hell that this team can right itself in one offseason. There's a gaping hole in the hull of this ship.
  15. No doubt. It *IS* a stupid notion. I believe that Tom Donahoe did his best, and his best wasn't good enough. He wanted to succeed. He made a mistake in not hiring John Fox. People make mistakes. But Gregg Williams will be a good HC in his next stint. As will Mularkey, I believe. Most good coaches don't find success until their 2nd stint. I'll still hold a candle for Kirk Ferentz (unlike many others, I do believe that head coaching a college team qualifies as a 'first stint'), but short of that, I'd rather not see them bring in another coordinator. Buffalo has become THE place to learn on the job, fail, and move on. We're all sick of that.
  16. Yea, those are both great reasons for hiring a head coach. Real smart. Well, he played for the Bills, he must be good. Well, Corey Moore played for the Bills, too. He probably needs work, and would probably "express interest". Look at Haslett's record. Enough said. But if you wanted to say more, one could say that his team has never played with any heart, he's a loose cannon who often embarrassed the saints, and his drafts have been horrid. What an upgrade. If the "golden boys" are serious about winning, they'll avoid guys like Tice, Cottrell, Sherman, Haslett, and YES, Levy. The only reason one would want an 81 year old coach who has been out of the game for a decade is if they want the #1 pick in the next draft. I love Marv, but this is getting stupid fast. The past is the past. Now even the Bills' storied past stands a chance to be sullied because a franchise hero WILL fail. Leave him at GM and pay the 3 mill per that it takes to get a real coach. Ferentz would by my first choice, but that Mangini kid could very well be the next great young coach. I've read that he's smarter than schitt, and that's what you have to be if belichick and saban stand in your way of the playoffs every season.
  17. Ralph deserves a lot of blame for this chaos. This was handled POORLY, and in a way that could only result in other coaches around the league looking upon this organization with disdain. How the hell are we supposed to attract talent in this environment? Dark days...dark days. Scott, anything else? There's been so much conflicting info it's hard to understand what the truth is.
  18. Mike, he called the entire bills organization a joke last season. While he might have been correct, you just don't say things like that. He is not the 'high character' kinda guy that Marv would want...leave it at that.
  19. SDS: Please remove this thread so that Ralph doesn't get any ideas.
  20. If the Bills hire that stupid, classless yutz Mike Martz, it will tell us that the Bills are finished, Ralph is clueless, and Marv doesn't have enough friends in the business who will tell him the truth. The last time Martz was in town, he dissed the entire Bills organization. Remember that? Well, maybe Ralph doesn't. My god what a disaster...
  21. Good grief... I had no idea that so many Bills fans would support reaching into the past for answers. This has become absolutely pathetic. Remember, Ralph fired Wade and it was a bitter parting. He might as well hire back Tom Donahoe. Kirk Ferentz.
  22. johnny, i don't think you know what you're talking about. Holcomb is a better QB than Losman right now. Holcomb should have been the starter all season. You watch. Now JP is going to have to learn a new offense, and it will NOT be a smooth transition. I'll take any bet that JP is NOT our starter next season. And I'll win.
  23. I was indoctrinated to hate jimmy johnson because I came into football late, after he killed us in back to back superbowls and then told the world that he knew he'd win 'em and showed us how he knew. Plus, his hair and porcine face make him hard to like. But I've listened to the guy in the media for years, and he knows football and personnel as good as anybody. It won't happen cuz he loves the sun, but I wouldn't complain about Jimmy Johnson cuz it would give us a real chance to field a winning team. Todd's head might explode upon reading this.
  24. I'd rather let YOU take over than Herm Edwards.
  25. what coaches are going to want to come to buffalo now? what assistants will be available? Mike leaving is out of character, and it TELEGRAPHS PROBLEMS with this goofy new "structure" that Ralph has demanded. What coach is going to want to run a team that has Ralph Wilson wanting to take a more active role in the hiring of coaches and drafting of personnel? NOBODY. Except for more "comfort" picks - reaches into the past for guys who wouldn't even get interviews from other teams. Or Haslett, who has been a worse failure than Mularkey over a longer period of time. What many don't seem to get, especially those who love Losman, is that the kid has to start all over now. New offense, new plays and terminology to learn, etc. No team has ever won a playoff game in that environment. Second year, yes. First year, no. We had a better chance with the status quo. This has become an absolute disaster. If ever the cliche "be careful what you wished for" applied, it's now.
