"Who Blew It!" Who is to blame for our loss to
nodnarb replied to Oneonta Buffalo Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
bull sh--. This was an EXTREMELY well coached game. How many teams keep the Colts to 17 points? I loved their game plan, and it worked. The only way you beat the colts is to keep it close and come through when it counts. We kept it close and as usual couldn't make the play when it mattered. Lindell doesn't make clutch field goals. He only makes field goals. He's consistent when it doesn't matter and it lulls you into thinking he's a good kicker, but he's mediocre, because what you do in critical situations counts tenfold against your normal stats. -
To be THAT close to beating the colts and failing because of two words we hate that begin with W and R, it's just about enough. Enough, enough, enough. There's always a new way to lose a well fought game. How 'bout them sabres?
-
one again, critical situation to take the go ahead fg, lindell misses. Whenever lindell is in the middle of the field, i get nervous. that's where he misses.
-
safe to say that terrence pennington isn't getting it done. Two critical situation sacks giving up inside of two seconds after the snap.
-
That's the thing, I mean, you have to have players that both LOVE the game and GET IT on its deeper levels. If you don't have smart players who are deeply committed and who are smart enough to absorb and remember and APPLY what they learn in terms of critical football situations, you're sunk. That being said, it's true that we did some good things, but it doesn't matter much when you turn it over 3 times and lose 28-6.

But...but...but whatever happened to takeout and XBox? I mean, when I wanna eat some greasy food and play some games, I don't want some zitty teenager in a mouse suit putting his arm around me and I most definitely don't want to be in a romper room full of screeching, germy grade schoolers. So WTF, Terrance?

This question doesn't really belong in this thread, but I didn't want to start a new thread just to ask this stupid question, but it's nagging me. At the end of McGee's press conf, he mentioned that he's going to get away from the game for a little while and "go to chuck E. Cheese". Okay, so...I know that that place exists, but isn't it a kids joint? What do they have there that a grown man would want?

the sense to ask Denny Green: "So, Denny, were the Raiders who you thought they were?" Oh, and it looks like the Reactionary Leinart Pendulum hath swung the other way. Figures, I picked Az in my king of the hill league.

The #1 reason why the patriots have been the league leader in winning close games in the clutch for the past 6 years is because they have players who are aware of every situation they're in before the snap, because they have that capacity and because Belichick works that capacity like a master. The Bills just don't play with much situational awareness. When you see any team make mistakes in critical situations on a *consistent basis*, this is what you have. Even some of our "better players" do boneheaded things REGULARLY. There's always someone there to get a personal foul to knock out a good 3rd down stop. I think JP is a C+ quarterback but he could be so much better if he just had this aspect to his game. But he doesn't. It's early, but JP shows all the signs of being a QB who does not play with a high level of situational awareness. How often do you see Brady let the play clock wind down? You don't. How often do you see Brady throw the ball away on 3rd and 5 when he has an obvious first down by running forward? You don't. You don't see good players do a lot of things that the Bills do. I question how much our coaches are addressing this situational awareness, and I question the football intelligence of many, many players on this team, even those we might consider above reproach: Fletcher, Clements, Villarial (what a weak link), Gandy, McGee, JP, Kelsay, Et. Al. There is a lot of deserved criticism to go around. I'll keep watching, as always, but I do worry that fans are going to lose interest in this team. It has been the same old story of no intensity and no heart for far too long. When you don't see players trying their hearts out *for each other*, you have a losing team. The Bills make me wanna Yawn! Stretch my arms up and Yawn! Pat my gaping mouth and Yawn! Hay-ay Ay-Ay ...

Sigh...

I'm not a big fan of the 'small fast guys' approach to defense, and that's the course we've taken and it's going to be hard for me to like it. To be good in the Tampa 2 you have to have the perfect personnel at every position, and depth. We have neither. The Bears do it well because their defense is stacked with high draft picks and rare talents, all well suited to that type of scheme. The Colts are Manning strapped when it comes to the cap and haven't spent much on defense in a long time, and it shows. A neighborhood man and his four young sons could run on them. I'm particularly not fond of little guys on the DLine. I don't think they stand up to the long season of beating and they get pushed around by bigger guys when they man up. It's a scheme game with smaller bodies and when the other team has you by the nads there's little you can do to stop them from pushing you back. And it sucks. It was difficult to watch the Lions' backups pushing us around like that. We had more missed tackles than points, and you can't win like that. Granted, I still like this team more than I liked last year's team. I like Dick Jauron. I really do. But I'm not convinced that this is a sound recipe for a long-term winning team. I'm gonna need something to hang my hat on before I can believe. But HEY! How 'bout those sabres?
-
Yea, I'm not sure Gandy could have had a worse day. His mistakes came in critical situations, too. Awful stuff...
-
wouldn't be surprised to see troy end up in New England. They're hurtin' back there in the secondary, as usual. (Although they've been plugging in random street Hank Poteats without any dropoff, so maybe they wouldn't want to pay someone like Troy)
-
Jauron is not an exciting guy but he's a very good coach. There's a reason that he's one of the most universally respected coaches in the league, by players and coaches alike. I think he's doing well so far and it would be a shame if the media and call in cranks were to start piling on this early in his tenure. He's still basically coaching with players brought in to play in GW's 46 hybrid system.
-
Actually, no. It was 100% Bobby April. Does he suck? The play was there to be had. Low snap, Moorman mishandled it, EXECUTION AGAIN.
-
I had no problem with anything the coaches tried to do today. This loss was a failure of execution at every level. Every player is a goat, except for maybe Lee Evans, who was the only guy who came to play. McGee probably had his worst game as a pro, Clements gets deked on every quick out, Shelton and Peters can't stand still, Losman made some inaccurate passes right into bears defenders, and Peerless couldn't catch a cold today. The defensive line couldn't stop a so-so runner, and the only linebacker out there giving up his body was Fletcher, as usual. This was one of those games that got out of hand early and changed the way we were forced to play. Team loss. Worst performance by the Bills since that rout by the Chargers. Or maybe the rout by NE last year.

what a fuggin game. Gotta love it when you're down two in the late 3rd and come back to win. a tying goal with 14 seconds left is precisely what the sabres did last year. Glad they haven't lost their magic. Should be a fun season. and (gulp) the jerseys are growing on me
-
wasn't that nice? it's great to have hockey back.
-
I think we'll see a lot more rollouts and misdirection plays than we've seen to date, and on defense, I think they'll stick with the 2-deep zone to guard against their deep ball but blitz the corners and linebackers - Grossman still hasn't proven that he sees everything that takes place out there. Holy schit, the sabres play tomorrow night.
-
i didn't know this. i don't follow the packers. if he sucks, it makes sense. but what a blunder - 1st round corners should pan out.
-
runs a 4.3, was considered a rising star last year. Had a bad game vs the Eagles, but that entire defense is horrid. Smells like a finger-pointing cut to me. I don't think he'll make it very far down the waiver wire. Packers | Carroll cut Tue, 3 Oct 2006 14:24:52 -0700 The Green Bay Packers announced they have released CB Ahmad Carroll.
-
These guys look good. (Scary good.) They are absolutely dominating on both lines, and when the hell did Rex Fuggin Grossman wake up and become Carson Palmer's Doppleganger? Man o man his deep ball is beautiful. He's tearing up a damn good defense out there. I thought he was supposed to be just another Chicago QB? Kripes. I think next week is the hardest test yet. Preston in there against their DLine....

If I had seen this post earlier I wouldn't have started a "let's laught at miami's plight" thread. Toddjabeatme2it

That's it right there.

Their fans and media have already turned on mularkey. Now they're turning on saban. Saban was hyped so hard, and miami was considered a leading Super Fuggin Bowl contender by the "experts" who receive big checks and don't do any real homework and instead jump on safe bandwagons to protect their asses. Really, does any analyst every stick his neck out and make a ballsy call? Nah. Why would they? Anyway. Miami couldn't beat the worst D in the league today. You have to think that the media is going to start coming after mularkey, and we know how soft he is about that. I think we're going to see a chemistry and heart breakdown in Miami, and it'll be fun to watch. I think I'll go enjoy some pleasant afternoon reading over at finheaven.com. ---- fin ---- Gameballs: Steve Fairchild: I liked the way he called this game, but I would have liked to see a couple more deep balls. London Fletcher: All over the field. Lee Evans: Many clutch catches for 1st down in traffic. THe kid is *good* But the biggest game ball has to go to Marcus Robinson. Thanks, man. Goat: I don't like the way we defensed the final 2 minutes of that game. I don't like the strategy we used there. Again, thanks Marcus.
