1st Round Selection: CB Leodis McKelvin - Troy, 11th pick overall
nodnarb replied to SDS's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Don't embarrass yourself. As if YOU know more about our defensive needs relative to scheme than the Bills staff and scouts. PLEASE! This guy was the #1 corner on most draft boards. Don't give up your day job -
1st Round Selection: CB Leodis McKelvin - Troy, 11th pick overall

And you know SOOO much compared to a professional staff that has been at it for over a year on this draft class. Yea, whatever dude. DUMB DUMB DUMB applies, for sure. To you. If you're not watching anymore, great. That means you won't post anymore. -
Gosselin's record has been among the best in the business. He Puts Mel "I'm an unwitting pawn for the misinformation campaigns of all 32 teams...with bad hair" Kiper to shame. But then again, so do most amateur Web mocks. The Huddle Report has kept a compendium of final mock draft accuracy and Gosselin is tops on the list, with a bullet. Side note: If the Bills trade down, which I think they will, I think it will be for either Harvey, Albert, Stewart, or Mendenhall. And if they keep the pick, I wouldn't be surprised, and certainly not unhappy, if the pick was either Harvey, Albert, or McKelvin. I have a hard time believing they'll pick a WR at 11. They'd be investing too much at that position considering they're trying to extend Evans.

The Bills need to make it happen
nodnarb replied to Cornerville's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm going to assume that you're kidding. But just in case you're not, YOU MUST BE KIDDING. It's very simple. Chad Johnson is supremely detestable. He's a self-centered egomaniac to whom the Team concept is what other guys worry about. Chemistry is vital to a team. Throw in an Ocho Cinco and you never know what might happen from one week to the next to your team chemistry. I don't care if he was coming off a giant season of 20 TDs. You can't bring this guy into your team, especially a team like the Bills. It will inevitably end in regret, of one form or another. I don't think the guy is funny - he's an annoying kid. And he's not even a top 10 WR. He might be one of the most overrated in the league -
More evidence that JP should be the starter
nodnarb replied to keepthefaith's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Well, keepthefaith, the coaches know more than you do and determined that Edwards is better and has more upside. Their analysis runs a lot deeper than a small handful of stats. Ya might wanna get used to JP and his backup status. He's a good kid and easy to pull for, but.... -
What is the Bills schedule to you?

Offical 2008 Bills Schedule Thread
nodnarb replied to RayFinkle's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
best schedule i've seen in years. and while it seems preposterous that the pats have the weakest strength of schedule, we're not far behind, and most importantly, no teams with a bye week before playing us...that's pretty big. Looks to me like the NFL gave the Bills a 'compensatory schedule' for all the recent years of BS, always giving the pats a bye before us and generally giving us more than an average number of off-bye opponents. 11-5? Dare I? -
The Bills locker room certainly seems pretty loose

Say what you will about Ralph Wilson...

Overboard. Ridiculous. Seriously. What the hell? Did anyone pay attention in those days? If you really think it's Golisano's "fault" for letting the defensive liability that is Briere walk (The same Briere that everyone hated at the end of the playoffs because he didn't have the impact fans expected) then you simply weren't paying attention. Likewise for Drury. Yes, his decision surprised Darcy and Larry. They acknowledged publicly that they were blindsided by his final move and also admitted that they probably handled his negotiation wrong. They owned that piece of it. Drury was gone weeks before that, and if you had watched the NYR playoff games you would have heard all the buzz about how the Sabres should "enjoy him while he lasts". These were comments from people inside the Rangers organization. The winks and nudges had already happened. Oh, but it's Golisano's fault. Riiiiight..... It seems that brains are literally falling out of fans heads these days. The emotional age of Sabres fans seems to have collectively reverted a decade, maybe two. And regarding Ralph, it sure is interesting that he's getting all this love here now...now that the national media is giving him a little bit of credit for his foresight back then during the CBA talks. Let's rewind this message board to those days. You'll see that most people here were laying into him, calling him senile, a joke, etc. You can lick your finger and hold it into the wind to determine which way (many) Buffalo fans' opinions will lean from one event to the next. -
it's amazing how much respect you can lose for a former player once you've heard him try to be an analyst. Faulk is terrible. Very little homework, weak analysis, an views fueled by personal taste. Way to go, NFL Network. Is Emmit next?

I've been signing this tune for a long time. Some people erroneously believe that Kiper is an insightful college scout. He was hired by ESPN to monetize the NFL draft for them. Make it palatable for viewing. He can speak a mile a minute and remember all kinds of forgettable data. Perfect. They also encouraged him to be controversial. In the early days, he was more than he is now that he's established and doesn't need to be controversial. He had fun blasting the Jets and Bengals for their 1st round picks and had very public arguments with their front offices. It's all in the ESPN archives. Might even see some of it in a couple weeks. Kiper gets the vast majority of his information from others, not his own research. As a result, he has a history of being used by teams as a vehicle for misinformation. Hence his lousy track record. There are amateur websites with a far, far better record of predicting players per round and team per player/round than Kiper. He's entertainment. That's it.

ESPN on the clock feature for the falcons
nodnarb replied to ABF11's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
ESPN continues to demonstrate that their 'analysts' are lazy and disinterested in or incapable of original insight. It's as if they all get together, decide how they're all going 'cover' a team, and they all in turn regurgitate the same ideas again, and again, and again. I have already prepared myself to hear outrageously biased and hackneyed analysis of Buffalo's draft picks later this month. -
Mort's a d*ck. And when he ways, "I do like their coaching staff", what he really means is, "I like their coaching staff but not their administration, because they supplanted my buddy."

Draft Insiders Digest (Frank Coyle)
nodnarb replied to Albany,n.y.'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This first round is definitely going to be interesting. Weeks ago I figured Willis to be a 34 style linebacker. Didn't think he had the speed to play the middle of a T2. My opinion was based on things I was reading. THen I read that he ran two sub 4.4s, which is extremely rare for a guy his size, and my opinion of PWillis had to change. Still though, I doubt the Bills will take him and I'm not sure why. Just a hunch. Worth the two cents and not much more. And other disclaimers as well. I think if Okoye is there, we'd take him. If he's not there and Peterson is, then I figure we'd take him. If neither are there, I'd expect the Bills to allow only decent value in a trade down for more picks. I'd like to see the Bills come away with a #2 WR who can instill some fear. Peerless doesn't do that anymore, if he ever did. Reed should remain in the slot and Roscoe should remain situational unless he's somehow learned to beat the press. Man, I'm rambling. But anyway, trading down and coming away with guys like Durant or Beason in the 1st or 2nd and Gonzalez or Hill at WR in the 2nd or 3rd, and then running backs like leonard and jackson...that'd be a first day that'd make me smile. -
Totally agree. I've been amazed by it. It's something I'll probably get on DVD so that my daughter can watch it when she's a little older. Stunning, incredible stuff.

Islanders 1 Devils 0 after two.................
nodnarb replied to millbank's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Leafs would have been a more exciting opponent, and you have to feel bad for canadians, (a little), but I think the Islanders are the best possible matchup for us. This could be over in 4 if the sabres skate. -
A nice rebuttal to the fools at ESPN
nodnarb replied to jaycorp51's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Great post, and I agree completely that the guys at ESPN don't earn their salaries. They attack the Bills because they're an easy target, but they don't do their homework. EVER! PFT gives a very fair assessment here, of both the Bills and ESPN. Mortensen is just a Donahoe shill and Kiper...Kiper always was, always has been, and always will be, a joke. He's not a scout or an analyst, he's a guy who was hired by ESPN for his ability to keep his mouth running and memorize minutiae. That's why his early season predictions are always way off, and his mock drafts are always outperformed by amateur hacks on the Web. -
But how do you or anybody else for that matter, really know what a 'reach' is? Bowe is widely regarded as a consensus first round pick. Within that tight context, nobody can say who is a reach, steal, or bust until at least 3 years after the draft. Past drafts are full of "reaches" that turned into probowlers and major super bowl contributors; some "steals" are out of the NFL. I remember how many on this very board were screaming about what a steal SF WR Rashaun Woods was. He hasn't done anything. I remember in the 2004 draft, Reggie Williams was drafted ahead of Lee Evans and nobody on ESPN blinked about that. Think The Jags want that one back? NOBODY on ESPN thought CB Ahmad Carrol was a reach in the first round, either. He was on every mock draft's first round. Three years later, the consensus is that he sucks.

Vow. This guys is giving the Bills lot of crap on the Chat...
nodnarb replied to ganesh's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It never ceases to amaze me how so many so-called "professionals" get on a bandwagon and stop thinking. The Bills were running a T2 with many players who are not really optimal in that scheme. They're letting those guys walk. The real exception is Clements, who we weren't going to make the highest paid defender, and for good reason. In 2003 everyone praised our offseason because we brought in all those stars and what came of that season? Now we're taking it on the chin, and let's see what happens. There are many teams around the league who haven't helped themselves *toward their scheme* nearly as much as the Bills yet the Bills get all the criticism because they're an easy target and hey, everyone's doing it. It's pathetic. Another case in point: Imagine if the Bills had given up what the Pats gave up for Welker...there would be a new !@#$ ripped in Buffalo and the football "analysts" would be chortling in a chorus. But no. The Pats did it, so it must be brilliant. -
Mel Kiper is little more than a mouthpiece for every amateur mock draft on the Web, compiled in verbal format, using 10 draft cliches per minute. And a nice tie.
-
This has been covered and covered ad nauseum. The Bills addressed this specifically. Everyone around the league knows that the Oakland *coaching staff* was the overmatched group on that squad. You can't succeed with an OC that has been out of the game for 10 years attending a bed and breakfast, and you can't succeed with an OLine coach who hasn't adjusted his schemes since the early 90s. Nobody around the league considered the Oakland linemen to be the cause, either individually or as a group. And when the Bills scouted Walker, their EXPERIENCED, TRAINED EYES told them that Walker was the highlight of the bunch, he always did his job, knew his assignment, and looked about as good as a player could be in that quasi-system.

i commented about willis a few weeks ago, suggesting that he's not the kind of linebacker that would fit the T2. That's because everything I'd read about him put him inside in a 34 with a 40 of approx. 4.6. to 4.7, which ain't T2 speed for ILBs. Goes to show you have to be careful what you read out there. Sheesh. So he ran a 4.4 at his size? The only question I'd have then is, how flexible is he in the hips/change of direction and his coverage skills? The guy the Bills are going to draft to play MLB is going to have to have to be smart, fast, quick, and have coverage skills.
-
i'll go out on a limb and predict the bills will draft jared zabransky in the 6th. A poor man's JP Losman. Same skill set, similar arm. Could be a good dev qb that wouldn't require a strategy shift if he has to relieve, as holcomb would.
