Round 1, Pick 28: ERIC WOOD, C, Louisville
nodnarb replied to Oneonta Buffalo Fan 2's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Really happy about this. Finally, a real C drafted. Hangartner to LG. -
Dang. I was hoping that kid would fall to us. Ozzy Newsome knows his big men, that's for sure. The Pats probably know that they just prevented us from getting a powerful guy at OT. Dang. Good kid, too.

You guys are so freaking ridiculous, it's unreal.

From CNNSI: BIOGRAPHY: Moved into the starting lineup as a sophomore and totaled 49/20/12. Awarded all-Conference and All-American honors last season. Defensive reserve as a redshirt freshman, seeing extensive time on special teams. POSITIVES: Explosive college pass rusher who makes a lot of plays behind the line of scrimmage. Good athlete, fires off the snap with an explosive first step, quickly changes direction, and shows speed moving in any area of the field. Fast down the line of scrimmage, shows ability in pursuit, and also makes plays in space. Breaks down well, plays with leverage, and rarely off his feet. Covers a lot of area on the field, and is a feisty defender who does not back down to a challenge. Deceptively strong, displays good hand technique protecting himself and slides off blocks. NEGATIVES: Slow locating the ball on occasion. Struggles getting off blocks at the point of attack. Likes to pin his ears back, rush up the field, and overruns plays. ANALYSIS: Maybin is a sensational athlete who takes over games with his ability to make plays behind the line of scrimmage. A tough defender with a feisty attitude, he reminds us of former first-round pick John Abraham, now with the Atlanta Falcons. Maybin needs to physically mature and complete his game, yet he offers a large degree of upside for the next level. Wow, you should work for an NFL team. You clearly have the facts, beyond opinion, and your analysis is layered and insightful.

Round 1, Pick 11: AARON MAYBIN, DE, Penn State
nodnarb replied to Oneonta Buffalo Fan 2's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I was surprised by the Maybin pick, even though most of the experts put him in the top 15. I'm not going to get pissed off or overjoyed until I see how he plays. But RE: Orakpo, everything I've read about him says the same thing: They question his passion for the game, his will, and his consistency. -
Thank God we're not Raiders fans. Al Davis is completely insane.

I was hoping the Jets wouldn't end up with Sanchez. Phooey.

Rookie contract inflation must be curtailed
nodnarb replied to nodnarb's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
yes, of course I know about rookie pool, but it's irrelevant to the problem. Has it in any way prevented this absurd contract inflation for the first half of the first round? The other contracts are for the most part sensible when weighted against proven veteran contracts. If not sensible, at least not so egregiously overvalued as to be a problem. But that first round, and the first half of the first round in particular, is just plain ridiculous. -
I couldn't believe my eyes when I read what Detroit just gave to a guy who has never played a down in the NFL. That he is getting paid more per year than the best in the game is so absurd, I can't believe that it's not being addressed by the league. And it just goes to show how dangerously powerful the NFLPA has become. Compare Stafford's salary to Brady, Manning, McNabb, Brees, and the other elite QBs in the game. One quick look and you realize the seriousness of the problem. Unearned excesses create quiet, and sometimes not so quiet, hostilities. The inequity will lead many players to hold out, or play soft, uncommitted ball. And that's just the obvious consequences. This is runaway inflation within the game, and like any kind of runaway inflation, it has a giant ripple effect. We'll see how much power Goodell has soon enough. We'll see how strong his will is. I haven't heard enough yet. The Chiefs just gave Cassel a sensible contract, earned by his play in the league, even if for only one year. He's clearly a good QB. Now compare this to the money being thrown around this year to unproven kids, in the worst recession since the 1970s. It's astounding.

2nd Annual Reddy Freddy Draft Prediction Contest
nodnarb replied to Reddy Freddy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
1a. Ayers DE 1b. Britton OT 2. Casey TE -
As usual, the result of the draft will reveal just how much misinformation and outright lies there are leading up to this thing. Makes for good TV, though. If you like that sort of thing. http://www.nfl.com/draft/story?id=09000d5d...aign=TW_%20Day1

No, VOR, I'm pretty sure he did NOT stop to think before he spoke. Happens a lot 'round here.

Wasn't "Jauron on a Plane" a movie? Most people, when sitting next to a stranger on a plane, aren't at their engaging best.

I should add to the prediction that some of the commentary will be well considered thoughts of fine, esteemed gentlemen. By the way, from the couch, I'll say it's going to be either Pettigrew, Ayers, or Oher at 11, and either Barwin, Mack, or Britton at 28, depending on 11. Sleeper OTs for the 2nd, possibly even 3rd: Fenuki Tupou, Sebastian Vollmer. Something about Ayers is really intriguing to me. His highlights are, to me, the most impressive of the DEs, and his interviews/personality is above and beyond the others mentioned at 11. my $0.02

No matter who the Bills take at 11 and 28, about half of the fans on this board will post endlessly about what a joke each pick was. How they would have picked This Guy instead, or traded down and taken That Guy. At least 50 guys on this board will be furious, and they'll post about eighty-eight times each tomorrow, each post being only a slight variation of the previous post. The flood protection script will spare us a FEW eyeball rollers, but alas, it won't be enough.

Patriots trying to move into the top 10
nodnarb replied to In space no one can hear's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No doubt Pettigrew. Watch it happen. -
I think you've been reading too many amateur drafts. Everette Brown will probably be one of the biggest sliders in the draft. Might even be there in the 2nd round.

Cook is the next Vernon Davis, at best. Should be hoping for the Bills to get James Casey. A few years from now, you'll agree.

PFT: league source says best trade for Philly in 10 yrs
nodnarb replied to jahnyc's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
A source! A source said something! An anonymous source said something! Now we should doubt the move! Oh No! Maybe it's NOT such a good idea to get value for a guy who disrespects his team and coaches and organization! Maybe it's NOT such a good idea to get value for a guy that had One Good Season and thinks he deserves to be the highest paid LT in the game. Because...because...a source said something! -
Peters didn't know how many sacks he gave up...

Peters didn't know how many sacks he gave up...
nodnarb replied to basskik11's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Now, does that sound like a class act? Does that sound like dedication to a job? The Bills gave him his big shot, developed him, and rewarded him. And this is how he repaid the Bills. I can't fathom how some people think the Bills made some giant, historic mistake here. Time will tell, of course. Maybe we did. But I really, really doubt it. Even if Peters is The Best, which I think is absurd (Walter Jones is still the best), his attitude and lack of respect for his teammates and the organization is enough for me. Buh-bye. -
Peters "Highlights" from last year
nodnarb replied to Steve In Atlanta 2008's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Like the thread. Data good. Hype bad. -
Well that's a lot of money for a guy who is willing to hold out on his team until the start of the season while under contract for 3 more years despite the fact that that team developed him into the player he became (for one year).
