  1. People say the verdict is out on Lynch, but i disagree. Not only did he already lose his job as starting RB, but i highly doubt the Bills saw themselves being the position to draft another top-10 RB 3 years after drafting him. Regardless of if he regains his pro bowl form, the dominoe affect of his mistakes has already set us back quite a bit. Edwards has to at least be a C+ Maybe even a B-. HE hasn't turned into the franchise QB everybody hoped, but he has played well at times, and for a late 3rd round draft pick, you got a starting QB who has had moments.
  2. The fact remains somebody is going to take a chance on this guy. If it came down to a roster spot for Russell v Fitzpatrick, I would take Russell, soley based on upside. Fitzpatrick is what he is....a journeyman backup with no accuracy. Russell is complete garbage, but at least there is a flicker of hope for him to get better. But at the end of the day, it's Jamarcus Russell. Not a big deal.
  3. No. Baltimore is not trading their franchise LT for a guy who AT BEST would be a Number 2 RB, but might be the 4th best RB on the team.
  4. True, we had personell to play the 4-3 defense, but the personell we have had over the past 3 years was getting manhandled in the running game. So, either they weren't as good of fits for the 4-3 as we thought, or they just simply weren't as good as we thought. Either way, you don't keep a scheme because your players fit it if your players who fit it aren't getting the job done.
  5. How is it a reach for Troupe if he would have gone 50-55? First of all, the "Experts" grade Troupe against all of the DT's int he draft. 3-4 NT's, 3-4 De's 4-3 3-techniques and 4-3 noses. We only had interest in 3-4 noses at that point. Secondly, "he would have gone 50-55... OK, the Bills didn't pick again until in the 70's, so clearly, if they wanted him, they should have taken him exactly when they did, or else they wouldn't have gotten him. I laugh all the time when people talk about value. You only get one out of every 32 picks, so if you really want the guy, you better take him.
  6. Nobody is going to argue that the Bills O-Line is a MAJOR concern, but to your original point, besides Chambers, Hangartner, Levitre, Green, Wood, Bell and Meredith? That's 7 of our offensive linemen. They may carry 9 all season. You made it sound like we were going to throw 4 rookies out there.
  7. Good point. He didn't set the world on fire year 1, so I think he is a lost cause. The NFL never has players struggle in year one. We should give up on him. It's not like he has a world of potential, and very minimal experience. Sarcasm off
  8. Maybin has a better chance at converting to a strong safety than becoming a 3-4 5-technique DE. He is a prototype OLB in the 3-4.
  9. As a pass rusher, doesn't Moats seem like a better fit at OLB? Did I understand Nix and Gailey that they were going to use Moats at ILB and use Bratten at OLB?
  10. And for the people who scream " We have been rebuilding for 15 years".......you're right....but that's not fair to Nix. Rebuilding isn't drafting scheme specific players for two years, then changing coaches and schemes, then re-building the roster to fit that scheme. Like it or not, Nix is in year-one. We are in year 12 of suffering, but this is year one with a talent depleted roster. THis is a lot like 2001. We drafted a lot of bodies to fill potential roles, and the record will probably get worse. And just like in 2001, they stuck with Rob Johnson because they weren't going to win anyway. In 2002 they made their aggressive play for a QB once the roster was shaped better.
  11. Not at all. FOr the most part, most college teams don't run a 3-4 defense, so DE's are the lifeblood of the NFL 3-4 OLB. I don't think any of these guys are projected to start early on. But now they have guys with 3-4 LB body types that they can develop as they continue to fill in this very very very empty roster.
  12. I think you're misinterpreting. They like Brown as a developmental QB prospect, but I don't think anybody at One Bills Drive is pencilling him in for the 2012 starting QB. They took a flier on a guy in the 7th round who has some coachable qualities and they're going to give Gailey a chance to develop him. But there is just as much likelihood that Brown spends the 2010 season on the Bills practice squad. It's a 7th round pick. He is a project. He could certainly develop into a starter. Anybody has a chance. But I doubt anybody there is counting on it.
  13. ANd the sooner you accept that, the sooner you'll probably be willing to give Buddy Nix the benefit of the doubt on this draft. Jauron and Levy left this team void of talent. Our 2006 first round draft pick has been rumored to be on the trade block, our other one can't get on the field. Our 2007 first round draft pick is now 3rd string, and rumored to be on the trade block. McKelvin looks promising when healthy, and Maybin too early to tell. But the point remains, Levy and Jauron tried to base this team around smaller speedy guys, and now Nix and Gailey are forced to retool this entire roster with adequate sized players. I think Nix and Gailey understand this team is probably not going to be in the mix this year, and they need to fix whats wrong under the hood before they worry about the paint job. They had a top 10 pick, and instead of doing what Levy did EVERYTIME, picking a player who fit the number 1 need, Nix took the absolute best player available. How can you fault him for that? If this team is built up in 2 years, Spiller will still be here. So, drafting for your primary need in 2010 made very little sense when 2010 is most likely a throw away year . You can't overcome a decade of mediocrity in one off-season. Hopefully RW is patient enough with Nix, and hopefully Gailey turns out to be the right coach for this team.
  14. Sounds like a good guy, and he clearly fills a position of need. He looks the part, and time will tell if he can get it done .
  15. 3-5 carries? Are you nuts? He is going to be our starting RB. He will get 10-15 carries a game. Spiller is going to line up all over the field. Just like PErcy HArvin and Reggie Bush. Spiller will get 15-2 touches a game, but I bet 4-5 of them will be receptions. Fred Jackson will be very much involved
  16. NFL Network is far supperior . ESPN stops covering the draft after the first round, and does about 14 hours of first round recap while teams make picks. Then, when a big name gets picked, they interrupt the repetative conversation with a conversation about it . NFL Network analyzes every pick. They discuss the 15th pick in the 3rd round just like they do the 3rd pick in the first round.
  17. Someone on twitter asked him how good Spiller can be for the Bills this year. Mort: Off the charts! And Gailey will be very creative. http://twitter.com/mortreport So, people want to say al Mort does is bash the Bills ( maybe the truth is, all he does is tell it like it is, and the bills have deserved to be bashed a lot recently)...he just signed off on our first round pick . If you haven't accepted it yet, dont worry, you will.
  18. I'll gladly take that bet. Fred Jackson will be a Bill in 2010, and be one of our top 3 offensive performers.
  19. I want Clausen, but I'm getting the vibe the Bills are trying to build this team up before they add a Qb to the mix. So, if you can allow yourself to stomach the idea of next years Qb roster being Brohm/Edwards/mid-Rookie/Fitz ( 3 of the 4), and ignore the QB need for a second, I think the Bills are in great position to add either a left tackle or a front 7 player to their defense.
  20. The fact that they tried to move up but their player was gone tells me they had/have no intention of taking a QB that high.
  21. I like how yesterday, Clausen was a candidate to go in the first round, and now because he didn't go, people don't think there is a QB worth grabbing. Clausen still grades out, by most experts, as the second best QB in this class. It just so happens there are very few teams who need Qb's this year. If the Bills can get Clausen, especially at this point in the draft, they should.
  22. They could take Spiller in Rd. 1, Tate in Rd. 2, and they have just added speed and explosiveness to an offense that hasn't scared anybody in more than a decade. It seems like on draft day, people forget what wins games. They go back to the logic of , "well, I've always heard the game is won or lost at the line of scrimmage so it must be true." I guarantee you if we conducted a fan poll right after any of the offensive duds the Bills have put up in recent years, more fans would have argued that we desperately lacked playmakers than "We just don't have enough talent at left tackle."
  23. Look, obviously you don't want Kirk Chambers as your starting left tackle. But, just like anything else...you don't want Ryan Denney as your starting DE and you don't want Keith Ellison as your starting OLB. A bad player at any position will create a liability for a team. But this idea that somehow not having an ELITE left tackle is going to just cripple an offense is insane. There's only one position on the field that single handedly can bring up or down the play of everybody else around them and it's QB. The Bills need an upgrade at tackle, for sure. But, spending the 9th pick in the draft on a guy like Bulaga just seems like drafting a tackle just to do it.
