Anyone familiar with Portland, OR?
nemhoff replied to \GoBillsInDallas/'s topic in Off the Wall Archives
GBID - Here are my recommendations for you (my wife and I moved to PDX about 12 years ago from the Cuse) The vibe in Portland tends to be a little weird, local, but very cool. Here are some things that my wife and I totally love about Portland Voo Doo donuts is cool, but the donuts are nothing special Bunk Sandwiches is a great spot to get an awesome lunch Pine State Biscuits is an awesome breakfast spot (usually got a good line if you show up after 9am)/The Screen Door is another great Breakfast joint I would definitely take a drive up to Mt. Hood - it is beautiful, go up to Government Camp, check out Timberline Lodge www.timberlinelodge.com and go for a little day hike/stroll/whatever. Also, the recommendation to do a Multnomah Falls run is a good idea (it's only about 35 minutes east of PDX) Oregon is known for it's Pinots and if you guys are wine fans I would totally go on a wine tasting tour in Newberg/Mcminnville (again only about a half hour out of pdx). One that is a little pricey but has great wine is Cana's Feast Vineyard www.canasfeastwinery.com Portland also has some awesome local breweries that are worth checking out - they have pub/brewery tours where a driver will take you all around town for the 4-5 hours. If you want to go high end on a dinner out I would recommend El Gaucho steakhouse (the best in town) or Portland City Grill (the best view in town at 30 stories up). The Oregon coast is cool if you have time (about 2 hour drive), I would absolutely recommend going to Cannon Beach - it has some good shopping, good local seafood, a great walking beach. It is usually pretty chilly and windy at the coast, bring a jacket. NW 23rd is a great street for shopping, walking, dining out - cool place in the city to spend a few hours. And if you guys are into live music - absolutely check a couple of websites (we like the Roseland theater, Alladin theater, Crystal Ballrooom). I could probably go all day, if you are looking for some more ideas - let me know! -
Only pre-season, but playoffs???

I kind of agree here, it would be great to see some well executed football in the preseason. This might temper expectations a touch... -
GDT: Washington Redskins @ Buffalo Bills 8/9/12 7:00PM

This has been written every preseason of the past ten years...and still haven't made the playoffs. I want to see the first team offense function well, make plays, score a touchdown. I don't think Lindell needs to make anymore 35 yard August FG's. Watch Aaron Rogers in a preseason game...promise you won't have to make excuses for him -
Man, these "Plax" threads just won't die!

I am not a betting man, but did see a couple of posts recently on the original line of the Bills at 6.5 for the over/under. Looks like you were wise to plunk down a few bucks, if you did! Our Bills are on the move... http://www.nationalfootballpost.com/Market-watch-NFL-season-win-totals.html

Well, I went to the Nike employee store out here in Portland to buy my son one, didn't have any other than a bills tshirt (which I bought). He proceeded to pick out a panthers jersey which caused a great deal of consternation on my part...went with the best I could get, I don't even like cam newton. Might still be hope for my 2 year old though

Brandon Marshall on his way out of Miami

Nice pick up for the Bears, even if he is a head case. And I agree that this is a puzzling move for the Phins, who do they got at WR now? -
I don't know Pooj, Melo seems pretty dumb...and can't avoid trouble. JB might have been doing his best with Melo and just couldn't get the kid to wise up. We were not playing to our potential with him over the last part of the season. I don't see it as a tournament killer, but I do see it as a rotation killer in spots for the Cuse. CJ, Xmas, and Keita need to step it up. I am betting that's why Xmas got minutes in NYC and I am betting SU knew about this prior to Sunday, but kept it under wraps until after the seedings were handed out.

Did anyone else notice how many times Solomon said that the Chargers are trying to make this a "December to remember"? I felt like I was watching a Lexus commercial in the middle of the game.

The UF win was a nice one for the Cuse!! Poojer, thanks for starting the yearly thread on this. If we can make it through whatever the Fine case brings against the program this year, they have the makings of being a pretty special team. A few thoughts in no particular order... 1. Fab Melo is a different player, what a jump from Frosh to Soph. If he plays like he did tonight we are a different team. I don't mind a couple of those goal tend calls, reminds me of when Ewing would do that just to intimidate under the hoop. 2. Scoop must be a coaches nightmare, so streaky...looks terrible in the first half and then wins the game in the second. 3. We have to shoot better than we did tonight, or we have to stop taking freaking jumpers and get to the hoop. 4. We are as deep and as talented as I can remember...deeper than 2003 IMO. 5. It is sooo impressive that Cooney would redshirt and stay with the team. He is a top shelf recruit, a great shooting guard. That speaks volumes to the coaches and their recruitment/relationship with their recruits. 6. I was impressed that after a sluggish show in NYC these guys came out and looked the part against a top ten team. Florida will be very good in the SEC this year and we handled them down the stretch. The final score was closer than the game was. Go Cuse!

Lynch had 135 and a TD last week for the Seahawks...not too shabby -
Astro, I would be thrilled with Upshaw...I would also be thrilled if 2 out of first 3 picks are on defense and have the chance to be day one starters. I wouldn't be at all bummed with two LB's with the first two Bills picks honestly. SM probably will not be with the team, Batten got Beaten up and down the field against the Jets...to infuse the LB corps with real talent would be a major upgrade to our D. I hope that our next draft reflects this past year. Focus on D and build from the inside out. Get bigger. Nate

Is that a curler on Wood's bathroom counter? What?

That was great...so true

The Colts keep losing starters...to the tune of 2-3 a week. They have to be considering throwing this season into the can and looking at next year. What if, and it is a huge if, they are picking first next April and nab Andrew Luck to sit behind Manning for a couple of years?? Talk about good fortune - they go from having 12 years of a one franchise QB to potentially another decade of one of the best college QB's to come out the last 20 years. And they don't have to pay him 80 million dollars...they will get away with paying him third of that for 4-5 years. My question to you is: if this were the Bills would you be OK with throwing 2011-2012 season away to get the #1 pick?

Raider Joe might be Al Davis in disguise...man the way he knows height, weight, and speed of everybody on their team. Makes me think old Al is on the board drooling over measurables.

Totally agree. He, seemingly more than any other Jet would kill us.

I know that this was kicked around a while ago, but I just made my annual call to DTV to get my $150 off the NFL package. Got more than I bargained for. I talked to the customer retention department, just ask for them first thing. Told them that I was considering not only cancelling my NFL but going to Comcast altogether. They made the first offer, and I told them that I have Comcast in front of me and can get it for much cheaper. They took off my HD charge for a year They gave me movie channels for a month They gave me the NFL package for free 5 minute call to save $400 this year, worth a shot
