And the most overrated Bills award goes to...
MartyBall4Buffalo replied to billsfanone's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I was being sarcastic. I dont think McGee has looked good at all. He's consistently getting beat when he tries to press receivers, and yeah he's fast but mcgee jamming a wr especially with inexperienced safeties will be a recipe for disaster the rest of the year. In all honesty I dont find much fault with our secondary. This defense is based off pressure from the dline. Which is non existent, but I'm not worried we play some crappy teams where Im sure Schobel will rack up a good # of coverage sacks -

yeah he looked like a pro bowler getting owned by berrian -
and the jets almost beat the colts, and the colts beat the jags and the jags lost to the redskins, who only scored 3 pts against the giants who haven't had a defense all year.... just sayin

A Few Thoughts About The Game....
MartyBall4Buffalo replied to Bill from NYC's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Why are you high on our de's? Personally I think they've looked awful outside of the miami game. I wont harp too much on the play of the secondary the tampa 2 is basically a non blitz defense relying heavily on pressure from the defensive line. There was none of that today. -

Man Leinart has a much better arm then pennington he had a beautiful 50 yard bomb droped by bryant johnson and his first td was a 45 yarder. He doesn't have the strongest arm, but his arm strength is much better then what people think. He's also extremely patient, and goes through progressions really well. -

I didnt know we weren't allowed to talk about other qb's on this board without offending the Losman coddling club -
The Biggest moments imo or lack there of were a lot of dropped potential int's. They're db's for a reason but some of those should have been picked

exactaly Moorman had running room but was too impatient.

That's great for us, but I'm not sleeping on tank johnson or rookie de mark edwards who leads all rookie defensemen with 3.5 sacks, but still good for us. Any advantage we can get is well appreciated. -
LJ didn't play with John Tait. Tait hasn't played in kc since 2003. Ruben Brown is aging was great once upon a time is now merely average Won't disagree on Kruetz garza is ok fred miller can be exploited Their dline I agree it is the best in the league from harris to ian scott to their de's and their depth. It's a great challenge

NIKOLAI VALUEV VS. MONTE BARRETT
MartyBall4Buffalo replied to NavyBillsFan's topic in Off the Wall Archives
I'm actually a little suprised someone that big is successful boxing. I would think quicker fighters would be able to get inside on him and keep him off pace. -
Lee Evans reminds me a lot playing wise of Terry Glenn, without the character issues. Both great hands and great speed, able to run after the catch, both tougher then they look. Their games are real similar.

lets see falcons- Alex Gibbs. Everyone knows about his success as the oline coach in Denver, and implementing the zone blocking scheme there and in Atlanta. Whether you want to argue it's dirty tactics, or simply the system. Im sure that takes into account the high ypc factor. The zone blocking scheme has turned out backs like TD, Olandis Gary,Mike Anderson, Clinton Portis, and looks like tatum bell will be the next recipent. Warrick Dunn has benefited highly from the zone blocking scheme. After only 2 1000 yard seasons in his first 7 years he's on pace for 3 1000 yard seasons in a row and 2 back to back 1400 yard seasons. He's a nice rb, but he's not "that good". The fact Vick and Jerious Norwood are both averaging over 8ypc really makes it stick out. Giants- have the 2nd fewest rushing attempts in the league and 23rd in yards. The Bills are 9th. Their ypc being higher really doesn't mean much. Eagles- I like westbrook, but he's not a better pure running then McGahee. Westbrook is a nice playmaker. He's far from a workhorse. McNabb is running more then he has the past few years. He's on pace for 64 att for 344 yards which would be his most since 2003 which conversly is what he had when the eagles last were in the top 10 in rushing. McNabb's rushing ability isn't on par with Vick, but you do have to account for it, especially considering unlike Vick McNabb can hurt you passing. Broncos- When haven't they had success running the football? Go back to my falcons analysis. It's the system. They also have an explosive wr in javon walker and mr. reliable in rod smith. No one is gonna stack the box on them the way teams will do to buffalo until the receiving core becomes more consistent, and earns respect. Chargers- LT is averaging 3.9 ypc. The same as Willis. LT is also on pace for the most rushing attempts in nfl history. Their ypc is boosted by Michael"The Burner" Turner averaging 7.4ypc It's nice to have a fairly good backup who can also gash defenses. Not a backup who's averaging 3.4ypc like anthony thomas Cowboys- I'm sure you'll see a lot of 8 man fronts vs dallas Redskins- Clinton Portis will be putting up Priest Holmes type #'s in an Al Saunders offense. He's a top 5 back so I'm not suprised. Ladell betts is a great change of pace. Raiders- ok that's all Panthers- Deshaun Foster 1st 2 games- 28 att for 80 yards 2.9ypc. Last 2 games 36 att for 187 yards 5.2 ypc. I'm sure that has nothing at all to do with Steve Smith coming back, it's because foster>>McGahee 49ers- Tale of 2 sides. first 2 games Gore faced 2 really lousy run defenses. Last 2 the #16 and #13 run defense. 3 tds the first 2 games and 4.8 ypc. The last 2 games 0 tds and 3.9 ypc. I love Frank gores potential, and at one time in college he probably could've been better then McGahee. We'll see if he gets there. YPC is a highly overrated stat, that does not show the talent level of a rb Am I to believe Maroney is better then guys like Tomlinson, Tiki Barber, Shaun Alexander, Larry Johnson or edge? Take out maroneys big game against the bengals porus run defense and maroney is at a pedestrian 3.75 ypc as opposed to 4.9. So which one is the real Maroney? Food for thought -
Who was that that destroyed Carolina tonight?

MartyBall4Buffalo replied to clownments22's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
YPC the most overrated stat when it comes to rb's. Anyone who's seen the bills play this season knows mcgahee has rushed well. I guess guys like edge, Larry Johnson, LT,Thomas Jones,Jamal Lewis,Fred Taylor,Willie Parker all suddelny became bad rb's this year as they all have 4.0ypc or under LJ the highest at exactaly 4.0. The average ypc of the top 9 rb's not counting mike vick cause I didn't want to use a qb in this is 4.1ypc. Generally looking around the league the guys with the higher ypc are the fresher rb's who split carries ala tatum bell, maroney, julius jones, warrick dunn. Not that that theres anything wrong with splitting carries. Hell I believe it's a sound strategy but judging rb's based strictly on ypc is a foolhardy stat. -
I don't doubt that. I'm sure Lovie knows fewell just as well as fewell knows lovely. I just think it leans more in our favor because fewell is familiar with the bears personell
-
I realize DJ used to be the head coach of the bears 3 years ago, but why is it slipping by people our biggest advantage may be our dc perry fewell who's been with lovie smith for years, most recently with the bears just last season. If we have any advantage or insight into chicago it will be because of fewell imo.

What makes you think cover 2 corners aren't a high priority position? Because they play zone?. If it was strictly a zone defense Id be hard pressed to agree with that stance. I also might agree if Cover 2 teams didn't invest heavily in the back 7. Take a look for instance at the bears who have drafted- Charles Tillman, Nathan Vasher, Daniel Manning, and traded for Ricky Manning Jr, not to mention Devin Hester. Yes they upgraded their dline with ogun, and drafting of tommie harris, ian scott, alex brown, mark edwards etc etc, but they still invested heavily in db's. I think good corners are vital to the system, and it does matter who you plug back there, however in the cover 2 it seems you need more exceptional depth at corner and secondary in general since it is a pass defense then you would in a 4-3 man to man or any other kind of defense. The colts have also drafted donald strickland, jason david, marlin jackson, kelvin hayden, as well as several picks at safety. I'm sure I could go around the league with cover 2 teams and find out they drafted a lot of corners. the examples I used are corners drafted rounds 1-4, the last 4 years for the bears/colts. Nate Clements has barely even been thrown at this season. No one has tested him deep, and while he is allowing the short stuff as is our entire defense, he has not been beaten at all. He's well worth the money he's getting and a perfect fit for this system. I like ashton youboty a lot, but I'm still holding out hope we can hold onto nate.
