  1. I agree 100% except Im not a big fan of this years dt draft class. Everyone not named Alan Branch is a definite reach for the first round and has question marks. Okoye is all potential but really worthy of 12th overall? Maybe demarcus tyler in the 2nd. A guy I like in the 3rd or 4th rd is Kareem Brown from Miami. 6'5 315 lbs probably has the size to add some more bulk. Might be a good prospect to look at. Finished the year with 10 tackles for a loss and 8.5 sacks. The free agent pool does nothing for me. Besides Im a big believer you get starters thru the draft with free agency used as a means for depth.
  2. 6 foot 250lbs. Pass rushing end. All character and all High Motor
  3. I wouldnt exactaly call that indy/ravens game good defense. More like inept offense. I'm a fan of defense but that game was pretty tough to watch.
  4. As opposed to the games the afc has put out like the classic 7 fg shootout between the colts/ravens The nfc playoffs have been better games to watch so far then anything from the afc.
  5. Not going for it was Andy Reid conceding the game. However the plays prior to that were mind boggling. A badly setup screen a up the gut run and a dump off pass? Play like the game is on the line not like you're ready to go home. Chicken sh-- play calling by reid cost the eagles more then anything else.
  6. Would reggie bush marques colston and the saints oline have come with him?
  7. Kenny Irons is now my new favorite rb seeing as we have the whole Jersey/bills fan thing in common. With that the jets are just as likely to go defense as they are rb so I don't think it's a given they take irons. I wouldn't be opposed to the drafting of a rb as long as it's not in the 1st rd.
  8. Brees hung him out to dry but damn that was a great hit
  9. Strahan could learn a lesson from Willis and pay his child support and he wouldn't have these problems
  10. 6 million a year for a 30 year old te? rofl. The chiefs commitment to mediocrity
  11. Well if you want to be technical neither the panthers/jags or falcons improved this year, as they all finished with worse records then they did in 2005. The pats and saints would've been the better examples.
  12. If that's true I have a good feeling we won't be making the playoffs next year either. The interior of our oline is real bad and gets zero push in the run game and they're not any better in pass protection. I believe DIBS had a post on this awhile back. I'm fine with Peters/Fowler/Pennington at lt-c-rt. Although compeition should be brought in for pennington but upgrading the 2 guard positions has to be a must. Gandy/Preston make good depth and very lousy starters.
  13. As far as I can remember LT- Jonas Jennings Lg- Reuben Brown C- Trey Teague Rg-? RT- Mike Williams. Even though henry performed well overall our rush offense has not been good. No wonder we haven't made the postseason. Like you said having a decent oline is key. Our rushing offensive stats the past few years. 24th in 02 21st in 03 13th in 04, 20th in 05, 27th 06. Numbers like this reflect on overall rush offense. Which is as big an indicator of poor run blocking then anything else. It's the simplest of formulas. Winning football starts in the trenches. Not in skill position players.
  14. Don't we have enough kick returners? Pass
  15. A few small problems 1 being the 2 best corners available are Nate Clements and Asante Samuel. Realisticaly if ralph isn't willing to shell out money for Clements he wont be for Samuel either. There's real garbage in the free agent pool here. 2nd Lance Briggs is not a middle lb he's 6'1 240 lbs. I've called in the past Keith Ellison a young lance briggs, because of their style of play, and similar size. Would I like briggs hell yes but then you still have the problem of fielding a mlb. That and giving up draft picks to chicago. I highly doubt they just let briggs walk. I can see the bengals letting Steinbach walk, but like nate would ralph be willing to shell out the money. He'd definitely be worth it, but I dont have my hopes up. Some other free agent guards I like are Kris Dielman/David Diehl/Derrick Dockery/Toniu Fonoti/Floyd Womack/Leander Jordan. You could probably get 2 of them for the price of one steinbach.
  16. Canceling out all the other stuff such ass off field "issues or personal" opinions I have decided to keep this strictly football related. Leaving the list of backs you would rather have and a comparison to Willis Mcgahee now obviously this will end up being lengthy but I'll break it down as much as possible Willis McGahee vs Ronnie Brown Rushing Year Team G GS Att Yds Avg Lg TD 20+ 1st 2004 Buffalo Bills 16 11 284 1128 4.0 41 13 10 64 2005 Buffalo Bills 16 15 325 1247 3.8 27 5 4 71 2006 Buffalo Bills 14 14 259 990 3.8 57 6 4 48 TOTAL 46 40 868 3365 3.9 57 24 18 183 Year Team G GS Att Yds Avg Lg TD 20+ 1st 2005 Miami Dolphins 15 14 207 907 4.4 65 4 5 41 2006 Miami Dolphins 13 12 241 1008 4.2 47 5 6 49 TOTAL 28 26 448 1915 4.3 65 9 11 90 McGahee vs Brown analysis: Ronnie Brown has never been one to should the complete load of carries in college or the pros. Good but underutilzed receiver out of the backfield taken. His production thus far does not merit that of a 2nd overall pick. Infact could be considered pretty lousy given where he was taken. Fair is Fair. Granted it's a 3 to 2 year comparison but McGahee has 1450 more yards and 15 more tds. Again humanitarian opinions aside based soley on on the field play. Willis Edges out Ronnie. Willis Mcgahee vs Laurence Maroney Another back who shared carries in college and imo is not better then corey dillon nor his college teammate Marion Barber. Everyone seems in love with the guy. His biggest contribution has come on special teams. Longest run of the year for Maroney was 41 yards which was less then mcgahees 57 yarder. Did score 7 tds 6 rush 1 receiving, but overall did not give significant production. It could be argued he excelled in his role off the bench, but seeing how he's not yet shouldered the load. Statistics wise Willis gets the edge. Willis Mcgahee vs Rudi Johnson Rudi Slipped this year somewhat production wise specificialy in ypc down from 4.3 to 3.8. However he's been a consistent 12 td 1300+ yard back each of the last 3 seasons. It could be argued the offensive talent around him contributes but I'll call a spade a spade and give the edge to Rudi over Willis. Willis Mcgahee vs Maurice Jones Drew The 2nd on your list of rookie rb's. Probably the best of the bunch this season in Jones Drew. Him and Fred Taylor made an amazing 1-2 punch. Drew who could never stay healthy for a single season will need that taylor esque around. I doubt he'll ever be a guy who can handle too many touches. Id like to see if Drew can stay healthy while shouldering the load. 166 carries just isnt enough to go on, but since he is a dynamic big play threat. He gets the nod Willis Mcgahee vs Joseph Addai Came in and picked up the indy offense with no problem. However theres the snag we hit there. The indy offense. Addai will rarely if ever see 8 man fronts and most times teams will just sit in nickle or dime packages leaving lb's off the field. Rb's playing for indy have that luxury of never being the key of the indy offense. Addai may very well be the real deal. Willis gets the nod here. Willis Mcgahee vs LT Why he isn't 1st on your list I dont know but yeah obviously LT is better then everyone. Wills Mcgahee vs LJ Again LJ is obviously a more productive runner. I think the 4.3ypc he experienced this year is more of who he is compared to the 5.2 he had in 05 when he ran behind that monster line in KC. LJ is a workhorse who runs angry. If roles were reversed and we drafted LJ and KC drafted Willis I have little doubt we'd be having a different discussion. With that said LJ has obviously been more productive and gets the nod over Willis. Willis Mcgahee vs Travis Henry I actually think this is one of the better comparisons and overall they grade pretty equal. I've stated before I wish things would've worked out differently and Henry didn't throw a pissy fit. However he flat out lost his job in 2004 after originally being the starter. After 2 consecutive 300 yard seasons Henry experienced a career revival in tenn. Why no one is willing to give Willis the benefit of the doubt I don't know. Henry seems to be everyones favorite horse to back 3 years later. He'll eventualy lose the job to Lendale White, but he ran hard this year after cashing it in his last year here. Willis production in 3 years is similar to that of henry and willis probably did it with less talent around him. Willis Gets the edge based on how henry finished here. Willis Mcgahee vs Julius Jones This is a lot like the ronnie brown comparison. You can have julius jones, but then you're also giving up jp losman. Leaving that out of the equation though. Jones stats stack up better to Ronnie Brown then they do Willis. Actualy come to think of it this is a good argument against Ronnie brown. 1 1000 yard barely season. Did not finish the regular season well at all. No way I'd take him over Mcgahee. Less Productive with more talent around him. No way in hell. Willis Mcgahee vs Tiki Barber No comparison. Tiki has been the most productive back over the past 4-5 seasons. Reminds me a lot of Thurman. Shame he's retiring. Basically carried the giants on his back the past few years. I'll miss watching him. he gets the nod over Willis Willis Mcgahee vs Brian Westbrook Took Westy 5 years to crack the 1000 yard barrier. Enjoying the best season of his career. It was great to watch tiki pass the torch to westbrook. Always a great receiver out of the backfield. Could follow tikis career path and explode from here on out. I'm gonna to give this to westbrook because I do think the best is yet to come from him, and that eagles offensive line which is tremdous btw in size and ability will be together for the next 3-5 years. Meanwhile Willis gets to run behind 1 decent offensive linemen Willis Mcgahee vs Shaun Alexander No comparison again. Alexander has been one of the top 3 most productive rb's since he's been a starter. Would've beaten tomlinson to fastest to 100 if he didnt get injured. I've not been his biggest fan, but you can't argue against that kind of production. Alexander over Willis Willis Mcgahee vs Frank Gore Yeah I'm gonna go with Gore here. Gore is a top 5 talent who fell to the 3rd round. The niners got themselves a franchise caliber back as long as he continues to stay healthy. Willis Mcgahee vs Steven Jackson heh. I'm gonna go jackson here. I just think it's incredibly funny 3 rb's from the same division put up those kind of stats. Maybe NFC WEST rb's should be graded on a curve. Jackson gives you so damn much and the dude runs really hard. 346 carries and 90 receptions I dont care wear you play that's flat out amazing. Willis Mcgahee vs Edge This one is probably the closest in comparison. Only because I think the bills oline is just as sh------- as the cardinals. Edge did crack the 1000 yard barrier only at 3.4ypc. Ain't it funny what happens when you don't play with Peyton Manning and do face 8 man fronts. Which has a lot more to do with where he's playing then "slowing down". He cashed out for his big pay day. However at a hefty price for the non exposure cardinals. Longest run of the year 18 yards. Nod to Willis based on age and potential from here on out. Willis Mcgahee vs Thomas Jones Another good one. Only took the guy 6 years to put up 1000 yards after putting up 730 carries for 2839 yards at 3.8 ypc for his first 5 years. Funny what happens when you're put on a good team. After being never able to stay healthy. Willis Gets the nod. For a guy who a top 10 pick his career has been a severe dissapointment Willis Mcgahee vs Clinton Portis Factoring in his time spent in Denver really helps boost portis's case. Mcgahee is a more talented rb but Portis has the production so I give the nod to portis. Willis Mcgahee vs Deuce Mcallister Ask me this question 4 years ago I would've said Deuce Mcallister. Now I have to give the nod to Mcgahee. Mcallisters production the past 3 years has been pretty blah. After a bad time of it in 2005 the saints drafted reggie bush and Mcallister produced again. However surround Mcgahee with the kind of talents the saints have or even minimal runblocking he'd produce better than 1057 yards and 10 tds. Willis Mcgahee vs Reggie Bush Yeah Id take Reggie Bush. He'd be awesome as a #2 wr. His ypc was really boosted by his end of the season when he had 1 game with 20 carries but 2 other games with over 6ypc in which he attempted under 7 rush attempts. He's not a very good runner yet. Heck of a receiver out of the backfield. When he learns to follow blocks he could be great. Will learn the hard way he can beat everyone to the edge in the nfl. Willis gets the nod as a runner. Reggie for being a better receiver. However as this is a rb comparison Willis gets the nod. Willis Mcgahee vs Warrick Dunn Enjoyed 3 consecutive 1000 yard seasons as a member of the atlanta falcons. In the 7 years prior to that that he had 2. Picture yourself a defensive coordinator your 1st matchuo is vs the falcons do you game plan for A. Contain Mike Vick from running or B. Man we gotta stop that warrick dunn. If you chose B and didn't catch yourself laughing, congratulations you're the Kevin Gilbride of defensive coordinators. In closing I've realized a few things. One I have a lot of time on my hands. I love debating football. As far as the rbs you listed I'd tank the following as more productive then Willis. 1. LT 2. LJ 3. TIKI 4. Westbrook 5. Steven Jackson 6. Frank Gore 7. Shaun Alexander 8. Rudi Johnson 9. Clinton Portis 10. Jones Drew
  17. Back to the original point of this thread for a moment Cardinals | Sherman won't be offered job Thu, 11 Jan 2007 15:25:00 -0800 Darren Urban, of the East Valley Tribune, reports Mike Sherman will not be offered the Arizona Cardinals' head coaching position. Sherman interviewed with the team for a second time Thursday, Jan. 11. Cardinals | Whisenhunt to have second interview Thu, 11 Jan 2007 15:23:03 -0800 Darren Urban, of the East Valley Tribune, reports Pittsburgh Steelers offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt will have a second interview with the Arizona Cardinals regarding their vacant head coaching position.
  18. Different teams. Different situations. Brandon jacobs isn't larry johnson and didnt break the single season rush attempt record. He's a 6'4 250+lb back who I dont think is an everydown back. That's all I was saying about him.
  19. He has had only two full years of playing. Notice he only started 9 games in 2005, for a grand total of 28 games in 4 years. Taking two other players and concluding that LJ will do the same is flawed, because it fails to take into account a myriad of other possibilities for George's and Anderson's drop in production, namely the team around them, etc.[[/b] Alright lets use the team around LJ. He lost willie roaf who retired. It was a rotating circus at lt and rt with kyle turley/kevin sampson/Jordan black. With sampson at rt and jordan at lt. This year Will Shields will probably retire. Larry Johnsons ypc went from 5.2 to 4.3 nearly a full yard. With Shields likely gone and their oline getting worse I could assume that LJs ypc will drop even further next year. The guy takes a lot of hits from defensive linemen. He's not a breakaway runner, he's a downhill rb it's only natural to assume hits take a toll on the body he's not made of iron. A guy like say LT can endure more touches over a period of time then LJ because LT takes far less punishment from dlinemen then LJ will. You are saying because Orange A and Orange B fell off trees in different orchards the same way, that Apple A in a different orchard will also fall off its tree in a same way. Sure, it is certainly possible that LJ will never equal his past season in terms of carries or yards for a lot of possible reasons, none of which necessarily have to do with Jamal Anderson or Eddie George. I think my argument shows that your certainty that he will based solely on your analysis is misguided and is in no way worthy. Fair Enough but truth be told there are only 5 rb's who ever received 400 carries in a season. Eric Dickerson, Jamal Anderson, Eddie George, James Wilder, and Larry Johnson. So it's not a big demographic to go on. Granted theres other things to take into account such as the team around them. I just can't see him coming in next season and being as willing to take another 350+ carries which he will be doing and staying effective for the entire season. A bit much to roll my eyes? Yeah snap judgement my fault. If Im Carl Peterson I'd seriously look into trading him. Why run the guy into the ground for no reason when you have an aging team and no way to overcome the lack of talent around LJ. Their best offensive player outside of Johnson is a 30 year old te. So you keep LJ throw a boatload of money at him and watch your team deteriorate. Eventually rebuild and watch LJ's most productive years be a waste. Or sell high while he's still somewhat young for a rb. He'll be 28 next november. RB's generally don't get 2nd contracts from the team that drafts them for several reasons. The most obvious is they have a short shelf life. Enjoy the production while you have it hits take a toll and the legs wont go forever.
  20. I sure as hell hope not. Tony Hunt may very well possibly be the slowest rb ever. Nothing to do with Penn State bucks Hunt makes Maurice Clarrett look like reggie bush. I'd prefer Lorenzo Booker in the 3rd. May not be an everydown type back but he's a big play threat and great receiver. Would make a nice 1-2 punch with mcgahee for willis's contract year.
  21. No doubt about it that is part of it although it didn't hurt tikis numbers who's numbers actually improved from sep-dec. Not that I want to compare apples to oranges cause it is unfair. I just dont see Jacobs giving much in the way of versatility as an everydown back. What he's there for is what suits him best a jerome bettis type role with a tiki/willie parker esque rb to go along with him.
  22. Yeah Im sure he'll be fine coming off a season which he had the most carries in league history and will suffer no effects at all just a little taste of history | 1998 atl | 16 | 410 1846 4.5 14 | 27 319 11.8 2 | | 1999 atl | 2 | 19 59 3.1 0 | 2 34 17.0 0 | | 2000 ten | 16 | 403 1509 3.7 14 | 50 453 9.1 2 | | 2001 ten | 16 | 315 939 3.0 5 | 37 279 7.5 0 | | 1986 ram | 16 | 404 1821 4.5 11 | 26 205 7.9 0 | | 1987 ind | 9 | 223 1011 4.5 5 | 13 133 10.2 0 | | 1987 ram | 3 | 60 277 4.6 1 | 38 7.6 0 There's no doubt in my mind LJ will see a drop off in production. While it may not be to the effect of Jamal Anderson or Eddie George he's still a downhill bruising rb who takes an awful lot of hits.
  23. Welcome to the board
  24. Looks like we found ourselves a racist a guy from buffalo named Dan what a suprise
