  1. All speculative on my part. Speaking about putting back in a traditional fullback . Brininging in some tight ends. Trent Edwards at quarterback. Looking for wr with some size. I assume they'll be running a ball control/power running offense. Hopefully taking advantage of the speed of evans and parrish not just to run fly patterns, but work intermediate and short routes, as well as mixing in reed and whatever rookie we grab, using the old wco philosophy of Yards after catch. Something the Bills have been horrible at, due to not running some basic plays, like crossing patterns and quick slants. Working the seems. Mixed with a heavy dose of Beast Mode and Freddy Jackson. Again all speculative, but I imagine thats the kind of offense we'll be running. I mention Doucet because he was great at breaking tackles. I think he can be a good redzone threat. He's also a pretty good & willing blocker.
  2. For offense simple- When we're inside the redzone, attempt passes into the endzone. For the defense- Play press coverage, so its not so easy to convert those 3rd downs for opposing offenses. It'll also give our mediocre pass rush a chance to "force a throw".
  3. I hope they take mcfadden while passing up on any real defensive line talent like dorsey/ellis/gholston, or pass up on Matt Ryan for a rb. That would be awesome.
  4. Kelly's knees worry me, but I still prefer him over sweed. That's if they go wr in the 2nd. Otherwise someone like Earl Bennett Or Early Doucet, or Andre Caldwell would work all the same. I prefer Doucet out of the bunch. I think he'd be a great fit for the kind of offense the bills wan't to run.
  5. I was hoping to get Kelley Washington, someone with some potential as a wr, and a fantastic st's player to replace Sam Aiken. Who offered nothing as wr, but was a fantastic st's player. Ne of course ends up with btoh of them. On the bright side Justin Jenkins and Wendling looked pretty good last year. With Ellison & Digorgio back in backup roles. They should contribute to st's as well. As well as hopefuly avoiding that nasty injury bug of this past season.
  6. There's a few de's who are Maybe last 1st- mostly 2nd rd players. Like Phillip Merling, Quentin Groves, Calais Campbell, Jason Jones. There's some project type players, and a few guys who are tweeners. Most of these people, are based more off potential then on field production. If the choice is a Derrick Harvey, or Sweed/Kelly and then a 2nd rd de. It would be a much better strategy to go harvey, and 2nd rd wr, where you're bound to get a similar wr in the 2nd. I think it's actually pretty deep year for project ends, but light on true studs.
  7. Ted Washington and Chris Spielman
  8. Honestly regardless of whether or not we draft harvey, we should be drafting defensive ends either this year or next. I really think Kelsay and Denney are gone after this season. Regardless of contracts. They will be moved. They're not natural fits for this defense. Neither are really starters. Our defensive line is far from a finished project. It needed a complete overhaul, the way the oline got last year. It's nowhere near finished. AFreakinMEN!! That being said none of these wr's should be rated close to derrick harvey, or in the improbably scenairo he slips Vernon Gholston. The Bills can just as easily get a mediocre complimentary wr in rds 2-4, rather then overdrafting one in the 1st.
  9. Would that have been such a bad thing, considering how awful they were?
  10. Bump for a good article. Chuck Smith had 58½ career sacks, and now he's trying to share his knowledge with the younger generation. His customers include Pro Bowlers (Seattle Seahawks defensive end Patrick Kerney, New York Giants defensive end Osi Umenyiora and Tennessee Titans defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth). Schobel and company, may want to consider working with him. Maybe we'll see some inside moves, and collapsing the pocket instead of "How far can I run upfield then turn around and run back to get to the qb". To Schobels credit, he has gotten a little better with pass rushing moves. Maybe, some more emphasis on technique can help the game of Kelsay though, who can't rely on speed the way Schobel does.
  11. Nothing wrong with brining your lunch pail.Mans gotta eat
  12. Id still rather have Malcolm Kelly, if we go receiver. He has a better build, and from what I've seen, makes better receptions, on poorly thrown balls. Looks like he'd be better at yac, and working the middle of the field, but has big play capability. Where as Sweed, is a terrific jumper, and will probably make a good redzone target. Body wise, he doesn't look like someone I'd want working the middle of the field. He's sorta lanky, and I'm not sure if he can take those kind of substained hits. I'm also not entirely positive how Sweed will gain seperation at the nfl level. He doesn't play to his timed speed, and doesn't look quick in movement, where as Kelly just seems more natural, but has to work on route running. Sweed may give us the better short term option. I see Kelly turning out to be the better pro. I'd forego wr in the 1st altogether an go de/te/cb in rds 1-3 just the same. Yes I do think a receiving te, is more important to an offense, then a prototypical #2 wr.
  13. Because Best players available in this years draft are defensive players. The wr's aren't that good, we don't need a rb. We're not getting Matt Ryan, and we don't need an ot. None of the te's are worth the 11th pick either. However there's a lot of defensive players available, who are worth top 15 consideration, Several corners like Jenkins/Cromartie/Talib. LB Keith Rivers, as well as defensive end Derrick Harvey. Where as all these wr's are just not that good, and won't improve anymore, then a lot of the receivers who will be available in 2nd-4th rds. It's a bunch of the same kind of big, questionable speed receivers this year. None are overly impressive. You don't overdraft for the sake of need. As much as our offense sucked last year, they were also hardly on the field, because our defense was even worse. Everyone can still salivate over some "tall wr" picked in the 2nd rd, cause he'll give you the same impact, as any of the wideouts picked mid-late 1st. Where as, another derrick harvey, or drc may not be around, to help our awful defense. Besides with 8 picks maybe 10 if we get comp picks. There's plenty of time for offensive help.
  14. As much as people were screaming for our offensive line to be improved, I've been screaming for real pass rushing threats to be added. Kelsay has value, as a swing end, or someone who could even spot start. I think he's a liability, as an every week starter. Especially when we have no pass rushers outside of Schobel. It's my #1 biggest concern with this defense. The depth on this dline is weak across the board. Ther just seems too many people, willing to accept Kelsay as a starter, for no reason other then "hey he's here it could be worse". Which is true, but when you can have legit comparisons, and say that Ryan Denney is probably a better player then Kelsay, when it comes to run defense, and even as a pass rusher. It puts your defense behind the 8 ball. Espcially when it comes to passing downs. Unless you have excellent back end players. With just 1 legit pass rush threat, 7 times out of 10 you'll get victimized on 3rd and long. We all saw that this past season. I don't care if the sack numbers aren't there. Rushing throws is probably a hell of a lot more important. I just don't see the 1st step, or closing burst from Kelsay to be effective in that manner. Like I just said in a previous post. I'd like to see Kelsay in the swing de role in the mold of Alex Brown. I think the Bills could do a hell of a lot more damage on passing downs. If they employ a strategy similar to what they did in 06 with schobel/hargrove/denney/kelsay. Only this time, with a player who has potential to in a year or 2, take over at lde.
  15. Odom has a bit more potential as a pass rusher then Kelsay does, he's had to deal with some injuries, but his style of play is more pass rushing and less in the run support mold. I don't hate chris kelsay, and I've gone over this plenty of times. I'd prefer to see Kelsay coming off the bench, where he would be at his most effective, as opposed to being a starter. That's my only qualm with the guy. Someone in the Alex Brown mold, who comes off to spell Anderson/Ogun. This team just needs someone in the vein of Mark Anderson opposite Schobel. It would then Allow Kelsay to do what Odom, and Laboy both did with the titans, be a good swing player, who you can interchange.
  16. While Troupe has some nice potential. There is the sobering fact he was benched behind Bo F'n Scaife, and that there's quite a few receiving te's that are coming out in this years draft. For the sake of argument. If signing Ben Troupe would've cost a shot at say Fred Davis. That would've really stunk.
  17. . Even in a situational pass rushing role I don't think Edwards comes off as anything impressive, since his best sack season was 6.5. -- Not I think much of Edwards, or that sack totals are the be al/end all. I just wonder what he thinks about chris kelsay who's best sack season was 5.5 Either way hopefully Kelsays spot is upgraded, so he can fill the role he should be filling. A good off the bench 3rd swing de.
  18. The title of this thread, makes me think of that jets draft video where the jets pass up on marino and the guy goes "The jets front office must know something we fans don't. They said if Marino was there they'd talk them. They must know something we don't" As far as Bryant Johnson goes. I could've done with/without him. I would've prefered having him here, strictly to avoid the very real possibility, of having to draft a wr at 11.
  19. Pats 14-2 Bills 8-8 (improve the pass rush and secondary get a receiving te and possibly 10-6) Mia 5-11- Lost a bunch of close score games last year. They'll do enough to start to turn it around. Parcells track record speaks for itself. NYJ 4-12- not buying the offseason championship. Not buying that jenkins is a 3-4 nt. They have holes at cb/dline/lb/wr. Not buying Damien Woody is an upgrade, and that Ferguson is a franchise lt. Their wr's don't really scare anyone. I think Mangini is worse then Herm, and I think this is his last year.
  20. Vinny had a plenty strong arm. Infact he was pretty much known for that. As far as Pennington goes. 2 torn rotator cuffs, and subsequent surgery, has pretty much shot penningtons arm. It's different now then it was a few years ago, cause as weak as his arm was then, he was able to put enough behind the ball to get to his wr's. While his down the field strength wasn't there, now the guy can barely throw 10 yards without the ball sailing on him. It's considerably weaker, from where it was. You can't consistently win, with a qb that has the deficiencies that Chadwick does. He has the brain of an all pro qb. The arm of a 10 year old ballerina. As bad as Pennington is, Kellen Clemens in limited duty, has been beyond terrible.
  21. I don't think any of these wr's are worth that high of a pick. None of them are that good of prospects. The recent reports of Kellys arthritic knees could see him fall. Sweed has had lingering injury problems, and neither will be bpa. While corner is a need I agree 100%, I think you can can get corners this year until early-mid 4th rd. An edge rusher doesn't have to be better then Schobel right away. They have to be a better athlete/pass rusher then Kelsay or Denney. We're looking at a situation where Schobel is over 30. Neither Kelsay or Denney are that good, and we need serious improvement to our pass rush. Our defensive line is far from a finished product. I'd like to see Derrick Harvey at 11. Now with that said. I could live with Jenkins or DRC. I'd much prefer to see a bonafide pass rushing threat.
  22. A grade 3 concussion that led to post concussion syndrome. That and freshmen year of baseball pitching. I took a line drive to balls. Even with a cup on that hurt like a mofo.
  23. The quickest and easiest way to improve your defense, and give you a chance to win football games, is get better in the trenches. Football starts from the inside out. Not with #2 WR'S. Sorry in the 1st rd if someone like Ellis or Dorsey is available. You take them 10 times out of 10. Especially over the likes of average wide receivers, who are not all that important to improving a football team. At the expense of getting impact defensive linemen.
  24. Panthers- The Panthers have been looking for a power back. They're not that in love with DeAngelo Williams, who has been eratic at best, and hasn't been able to beat out Foster. It's a team that hasn't been the same since they lost the running of Stephen Davis. Stewart would give them that option. Eagles- Trent Cole is a very good/underrated pass rusher. Victor Abiamiri barely played, and thomas isn't that good. It's highly likely they could go defensive end. Like a previous poster said. The eagles highly value linemen, and don't value lbs, enough to spend a high pick on one. Although if Keith Rivers is here it may be a consideration. They are pretty content for the most part with Gocong/Bradley/Gaither. They actually were better off at lb when Spikes was injured. Defensive tackle probably isn't all that likely, with Bunkley and Paterson. They haven't shown a penchant for drafting 1st rd wrs. I believe the last wideout they drafted that high was Freddie Mitchell. One position not to rule out is safety. Giants- The giants are more then ok at lb. They have one of the best mlb's in the league in Antonio Pierce. They get Kiwanuka back next year, and Gerris Wilkinson played pretty good, enough to warrant a shot at starting next season, at least in limited duty. It's not a "need" position. The two most likely avenues they'll go are secondary or defensive tackle. Barry Coefiled, and Fred Robbins are not cornerstone players, so they may want to continue to bolster depth on the interior of their defense. Like Philly, it's an area the giants value very highly. Secondary I think they could go cb, and move Aaron Ross to fs. With only James Butler, and the newly signed Sammy "I run like I'm in quicksand" Knight, it's the thinnest position on their defense. The giants aren't that in love with Corey Webster. He's been dogged quite a bit around here, and improved his play tremendously, as the giants pass rush got better and better. Sam Madison is no longer starting material, and it's another area where they just may want to get someone with better hands then Webster, while bolstering their depth.
  25. that's what I get for quick glancing over it. In that case not a terribly bad move. Should give them ane excellent cb duo
