They also have one of the best safety combos in the nfl in eugene wilson and rodney harrison, and asante samuel is no slouch. -

Yeah and all I remember was getting ripped apart in the passing game during the superbowls and getting bowled over in the running game. If you don't have a good front 7 your defense won't be good, however you need to have a good secondary. Teams with crappy secondarys especially in todays nfl don't win superbowls. Pay Nate Clements and fill in the rest of your roster with a bunch of terrance mcgee's and kevin thomas's. If you have garbage in the secondary your pass defense becomes garbage to be exposed by the better teams in the nfl. It's why the steelers got lit up by ne. It's why the chargers didn't make it past the wc round. It's why the broncos have been exposed 2 years in a row by the colts. It's why the rams/vikings/sehawks/Packers all got eliminated. And good secondaries are why The Eagles have gone to the nfc championship game 4 years in a row and why the patriots have won 3 of the last 4. Yes Pass rush is important, but so is actually having some talent in the secondary. -

To keep this short.... yes he is Nate Clements other than Chris Mcallister may be one of the best all around cb's in the entire league. It's not easy to just plug in someone and get production. What was our secondary like when coy wire and pierson prioleau were plantooning for lawyer milloy? We got killed deep. If we just get rid of nate clements, it would be more open than jasmine st claires legs. None of the guys on our roster are currently good enough to step in and perform at clements position, and given the question whether I would rather keep nate clements or terrance mcgee. Nate clements by a mile. Guys like mcgee come and go, Infact theres several terrance mcgee's in this draft. Antonio Perkins for one. Nate Clements however is a special talent, that will be one of the best in the league for at least the next 5 years. Pay the man. -

Anyone thinking Oakland has been smart?
MartyBall4Buffalo replied to MrLocke's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If KC can land surtain in a trade than draft thomas davis in the 1st and Kevin Burnett in the 2nd. they will have landed potentially 4 new starters to a horrible defense. All KC has to do is get their defense up to around middle of the pack and they're a superbowl contender. If I'm forced to chose between Dick Vermeil and Trent Green or Norv Turner and Captain Kerry. I'm chosing Vermeil/Green P.S. With that said though I still like the Chargers to win the afc west -
Dominant CB or DE...which would you rather have?
MartyBall4Buffalo replied to LabattBlue's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
While you have somewhat of a valid point what you say is true to a certain extent. Yes the presence of good dt's help out de's, but I also think it works the other way around. Call them exceptions if you will. Last season Julius Peppers had his best season yet after carolina lost all pro dt Kris Jenkins. Recorded 11 sacks and 2 interceptions Dwight Freeney is another example. The colts have no dt's of which to speak of and Freeney plays with well below average dt's and still takes over games. 16 sacks and at times was indy's only source of defense along with mathis who recorded 14 sacks. Theres also Jason Taylor who despite losing both his starting dt's to injury recorded 10 sacks. Now while obviousily I named some of the best de's in the game, but they are great de's who weren't neutralized by the play of their average dt's. Now onto ne. While obviousily blessed with tremendous line depth. In a 3-4 defense de's imo are more important. Jarvis Green and Richard Seymour are tremendous at holding the point of attack at de. Great at stopping the run and great at holding point leading to their aggressive style of play on passing downs. Other than Aaaron Smith from pitt, Richard Seymour might be the best 3-4 de in the league -
Dominant CB or DE...which would you rather have?
MartyBall4Buffalo replied to LabattBlue's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm gonna use an example. If you're asking whether I would rather have the best cb in the game a chris mcallister or the best de in the game in Julius Peppers. Hands down I would chose Peppers. Good secondary's while nice to have become overly expensive, and I'm strict advocate that to build any successful team on either side of the ball it all starts up front. I'm gonna use another example. Go Watch footage of denver last year at how many times Toast Bailey got lit up. The Broncos have that problem cause they have zero pass rush. Don't get me wrong they get sacks and are an ok defense, but they're ultra conservative and don't apply consistent pressure leading to stranding bailey out on an island. I'd take an average secondary such as the jets for example with their dline they're gonna look ok, even though they have their holes, their defense is good because it all starts up front. Give me A Dominant DE over a Dominant CB anyday of the week. -
Who Has Confidence in Josh Reed This Year?
MartyBall4Buffalo replied to IDBillzFan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
So Far we haven't been able to trade travis henry a proven 1300 double digit td back in this league and now we'd get more if we trade him with Josh Reed? Does this make logic? BTW I have zero faith in Josh Reed. I gave him the 3 years. I'm not gonna "blame bledsoe" as seems the popular thing to do, when in reality bledsoe improved the receiver stock of peerless price, he brought moulds back to respectability, helped bobby shaw. he gave josh reed a good rookie year as a #3 and when reed was bumped up to #2 Reed just seemed to flounder. Whether it was moulds getting hurt or what reed sucked. Last year he sucked even worse even with the emergence of lee evans and willis mcgahee to "open things up" and you can even go as far as to say Josh Reeds Penalty in the pitt/bills game might have cost us our shot at playoffs. Josh Had his chances it's time to give someone else a shot. Whether it's Sam Aiken, Fast Freddy or a draft pick Reed is yesterdays trash that unfortunatly hasn't been taken out to the dumps yet. -
Yeah no way a team could get a #1 pick for a 24 year old pro bowl cb just entering his prime. How ridiculously asinine for any of us to think so. I mean it's not like clements is only 10x's better at his position than peerless price was/is Let's just not report on rumors stated by other people anymore P.S I don't think this trade is going to happen myself, nor do I want it to, as the only person in the top 10 of this draft I'd be remotly interested in is Mike Williams.

You are the GM of the Philadelphia Eagles
MartyBall4Buffalo replied to Like A Mofo's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I may be in the minority but if they trade TO, and release freddie mitchell they're left with todd pinkston and greg lewis..... Thats just craptastic. TO is the Best wr in the nfl. Forget the attitude. I'd ask for a new deal too if I was him he's right with what he said. The Eagles won't keep him around so he won't see the money from the contract he signed, and this is his last real chance to get paid. You Pay the players what they're worth, and theres nothing the eagles could get in a trade thats worth TO. PAY THE MAN. -

What price should Buffalo pay for a top CB?
MartyBall4Buffalo replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Charles Woodson= The 2nd most overrated cb in the nfl not named Champ Bailey. You Pay Clements what he deserves to be paid, or you draft his replacement in the 2nd rd this year. Corey Webster maybe? You don't just go trading away your players just to get something in return, especialy when said player is in the prime of his career. This isn't a madden franchise. How attractive to free agents would Buffalo become if they see we just started trading away all our good players. Maybe we should trade takeo spikes for a 1st rd pick we can than get some players in the draft from him. Think about the future -
rumor Nate Clements to the redskins
MartyBall4Buffalo replied to freester's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Pretty easily. The salary cap is a mirage (kind of). They defer bonus's and restructure contracts, and don't feel the hit until later into the contract, giving teams the flexibility to sign whomever they want. Unfortunatly it hasn't worked out for the redskins yet. I'm not a cap expert by any stretch of the imagination, but thats pretty much it in lamens terms. -

MartyBall4Buffalo replied to freester's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Two things. One- This sounds like a really bad madden franchise trade. Two- You just don't go all willy nilly trading away team leaders (especially for draft picks in a weak draft) Especially when team leaders are just entering the prime of their career's, and your team is dangerously thin at the position to begin with. Now with that said, I'll amuse myself and entertain the idea. However, the only way I'd even be remotly happy about this assanine scenairo that has a slim-none chance of happening is if it guranteed that we end up with one of the following players 1. OLB- Derrick Johnson- Arguably the best defensive player in the draft, future stud, makes jeff posey expendable. 2. Wr Mike Williams- Imo the #1 wr in the draft. An absolute beast and tremendous redzone threat. We'd be set at wr for years to come. 3. Cb- Antrel Rolle- This is like trading nate clements for nate clements(the rookie version) and while I like rolle I'm not a big fan of player for pick trades where you end up picking someone at the same position Anyway there are some players who could be good in this draft like Erasmus James, Shawn Merriam(john abraham jr, but extremely raw). Alex Barron another possibility, but I'd rather have someone with experience right now protecting the left side of the line. Now after entertaining this madden like trade I'm gonna have to say I'm not interested in trading nate clements -
Inserting ranking of Running Backs
MartyBall4Buffalo replied to VABills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think kevin jones should be ranked higher. He is sweet to watch. The last 5 games of the season he absolutly ripped it up | 13 ari | 26 196 | 22 | 1 | | 14 gnb | 33 156 | 0 | 1 | | 15 min | 19 79 | 35 | 1 | | 16 chi | 25 123 | 8 | 1 | | 17 ten | 19 72 | 44 | 0 | He should be ranked higher, but yes I agree with the assessment that his redzone touches need to increase, but I'd rank him over bell, and steven jackson and julius jones. The way I'd rank my top 10 fantasy backs is as follows 1. Priest Holmes- Yes there are some injury concerns however his production can not be ignored 41 tds the last 2 years. Last year had 14 tds in 8 games. Anyone who drafts his backup over holmes is nuts. 2. Ladanian Tomlinson- The best dual threat in the business. his ypc was low last year but this is fantasy and unless your league counts ypc 18 tds 17 rushing 1 receiving is great value for the best pure back in the league 3. Shaun Alexander- Productive year in and year out. No injury problems and young, with not much wear and tear. Will take a hit if he leaves the nfc west, but still great value for any fantasy league. Sure fire double digit tds and over 1300 yards rushing 4. Kevin Jones- I love the kid, He's lightning fast and should be a shoe in for 1400 and double digit tds if he gets the redzone carries 5. Deuce Mcallister- the saints seem to have forgetten mcallister, but they should start relying on him heavily, it will keep aaron brooks from making dumb mistakes and keep their horrible defense off the field. Plus it's a contract year. Let the deuce lose- Season prediction- 1350 13 tds 35 catches 360yards 4 tds 6. Edgerin James- Durability after 2100 career carries starts to become a issue. Seems to finally returned to form though after his injury a few years back. The edge shoe in for double digit rushing tds 1200 yards and catches as well. 7. Willis Mcghaee- 13 tds in 11 games. If he gets back that breakaway speed, all bets are off. Will be relied upon heavy only improving his stock, but I ranked him here cause of uber strong defensive division. Season projections- 1455 yards 19 tds <this is based off the 11 games he "started" last season> 8. Tiki Barber- Probably the 2nd best all purpose back in the nfl next to tomlinson, and with some weapons on the giants offense, burress, shockey, toomer, and david tyree to all stretch the field. Tiki will see a lot of short dumpoff passes and should be relied upon heavy to take pressure off of eli. 9. Clinton Portis- Say what you want about last season, but it was his first year in a new system with a horrible offense, an attrocious oline and a system who basically ran the same stretch run and off tackle play all the time. He finished off the season with 3 pretty good games. I expect him to build on that and get back to 1400+ and double digit td's 10. Corey Dillon- The one game he missed probably cost him the rusheing title. Had a huge season and should be relied upon more as I don't expect whoever ne's offensive coordintor is to get fancy with the play calling. Keep it simple and hand corey the rock. He won't dissapoint. <Honorable Mention: Curtis Martin, Domanick Davis, Ahman Green, Julius Jones, Stephen Jackson> -
WR Mke Williams a Tight End??
MartyBall4Buffalo replied to buffalo mike's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I know what you're saying, but jerry rice was never 6'4 240-250lbs Mike Williams is a Wr. He was more dominant at USC than any wr to ever come out of there including former #1 overall pick Keyshawn Johnson. Some teams may project him at te, but he'll end up on a team that he will be a lethal wr for years to come. -
