I dont really know much about gates what kind of back is he?
-
and who's going to block for him? Seriousily qb is not the problem. Yes a good qb if we fix the other parts would dramatically help, but we're better off building a solid foundation for a run heavy offense with controlled passing and occasionaly throwing deep, then bringing in a name qb who's been done for about 4 years now.

John Abraham's status as a free agent?
MartyBall4Buffalo replied to Typical TBD Guy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
When John Abraham is healthy they dont get much better as far as pass rushing de's, but he has a knack for managing not to stay healthy. However it's without a doubt he'd be a serious upgrade over chris kelsay and fill a need for a pass rushing end. We had our chance at howard in 2000 and instead opted for erik flowers. Howard went 7 spots later. I also think someone like raheem brock would be someone to look at. A Bit better pass rusher then kelsay and stouter against the run. Can't imagine we'd have to break the bank for him allowing us to spread the money to other areas like dt, oline and cb if clements leaves. -
Excellent article on HC candidates for Bills.
MartyBall4Buffalo replied to PIZ's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm on the Al Saunders bandwagon The guy focus's on the run game, and simply put his offensives dominate teams. He's a lot more proven then any coordinator in the league with the exception of Monte Kiffin. Nothing like Mike Mularkey or Gregg Williams -
John Abraham's status as a free agent?
MartyBall4Buffalo replied to Typical TBD Guy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I like John Abraham, and we have a serious need for a real pass rushing de opposite schobel, also getting someone like abraham would also allow versatility with our defense allowing an occasional switch to a 3-4 where we use him as a stand rush backer. However I'd be more inclined to go after darren howard or raheem brock. Arbraham has kearseitits. He's good when he wants to be but often "injured" -
Tired of people bashing JP
MartyBall4Buffalo replied to Nick in RaChaCha's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I expected a lot of struggling on losmans part, so whats been has been pretty much par for the course. Howver I expected by now to see some real improvement. What I've seen from Losman is he's good for pretty much a quater and then fallas apart whether it be short hoping passes over throwing wr's or throwing ill fated int's. Now whether this is just an aspect of poor coaching or It's not clicking yet for losman. I don't know, but I hope by mid season next year he steps up his game considerably. He has a lot of positives going for him. I hope he does well, I just dont see it with him like you could with carson palmer or eli manning. Losman doesn't strike me as a qb you build your team around anyway. He needs an offense like Jake Plummer with the broncos. Let him do what he does best roll out and occasionaly throw deep, but the focus of the offense being on a strong running game with controlled passing to limit the brain farts. Which isn't a bad thing at all. I see a lot of good Plummer qualities in losman, but for losman to realize his potential we have to start leaning on the run game, bring in quality athletic linemen who can pull and a good te. Losman will never be succesful in a drop back pass offense. -
I think a big part of martz ignoring the run game after vermeil left is that marshall faulk just got old and worn down and they were unable to rely on him. Yes it was a little overboard but marshall just couldn't cut it anymore, and yeah he could've used stephen jackson more last season then he did, but I can't really fault him for lack of a run game. Every qb martz has touched has turned to gold, or at least been good. Brad Johnson, Trent Green, Kurt Warner, Marc Bulger among others. If he could do the same for JP Losman why not? Edit: As an offensive coordinator not as a head coach

All "NVT" (No Vaseline Team)
MartyBall4Buffalo replied to R. Rich's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
2. Alex Brown As much as I like Strahan and Umenyiora as a tandem, to leave Brown out for both of them (along w/ Julius Peppers; no argument here) was not right. He'll get his due, I'm sure. So, who did you think got the shaft? 539544[/snapback] I think Ogunleye has a better case then Brown but one of them should've made it. I guess you could make a case for the entire bears defense this year Pat Williams got shafted. He should go over both Shaun Rogers and Rod Coleman. I think Antonio Pierece mlb from the giants should be in and trotter out One Chicago Bear that I think got shafted is tailback Thomas Jones. He's been the bears lone source of offense this year against 8 man fronts. I know dunn has more yards but Jones has been more valuable to his team. -
If we get Mike Martz we might actually finally see a good offense and win some games I'd be more open to the idea of martz if he came in as a oc, and Al Saunders as head coach.

Can one of you stat monsters do me a
MartyBall4Buffalo replied to Beerball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Last years 41 yarder vs the rams was actually a 50 yard td run called back due to holding. I remember he had a sweet jump over aeneas williams who was coming in low along the sideline and josh reed held for no reason on about the 12 yard line. -
Do you think we resign Ron Edwards?
MartyBall4Buffalo replied to Stl Bills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If we can sign grady jackson I'd like to re-sign ron edwards but only as a rotational player. Also drafting Ngata giving us a nice dt rotation of Jackson/Adams/Ngata/Edwards/Anderson at least for next year. Instantly improving our dline and thus our entire defense. It might be a little over board but this strategy of going heavy on dline has worked for the pats eagles bears and several other teams so why not if it's cap managable. -
Stop Dreaming about Leinart
MartyBall4Buffalo replied to Chgrant's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Leinarts arm strength is fine. It's probably about equal to that of Tom Brady when Brady first came into the league or Drew Brees. Arm Strength is not the be all end all of being a good nfl qb. If that was the case Jeff George would be well on his way to enshrinement by now. I don't want Leinart because I don't think he's worth his draft status or as nfl ready as Carson Palmer. Leinart doesn't strike me as a franchise type quaterback he strikes me as a piece of the puzzle you can build around but not someone who's going to save a team. -
I understand and agree with this 100%. If it works you're a genius if it fails you're a moron but this isn't my problem with mularkey. My Problem with mularkey is we have no idenity. Theres nothing we do and do well. Are we a vertical passing team? Are we a finese west coast offense? are we a power running team who lacks linemen? There's no commitment to any side of the fence with Mularkey.

Chad Johnson talking about endzone celebrations
MartyBall4Buffalo replied to Stl Bills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Well this would be a first as chad johnson has never scored a td against us. 2002 17 buf 6 123 0 2003 5 buf 6 59 0 2004 15 buf 2 10 0 So he better come up with something good to amuse me -
He ran over atlanta, new england in the 1st game, the jets, and did decent against miami. 1st miami game he had a 40-45 yard run called back cause of lee evans holding that didn't effect the run anyway. Mcgahee is a lot different back now then he was in college. He needs 25-30 carries a game and a pound it out down your throat rushing offense and he can take over a game. The problem is we dont have the interior players in the oline to make this possible. We also dont have a coach who sticks with the run game anyway even if it's not working all that well as a lot of good coaches do. Yards aren't all that important it's the attempts, and well you can't make a run game off 9 attempts unless your USC and your tailback is named Reggie Bush

Season was over for me when...
MartyBall4Buffalo replied to Eric in Akron's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
season was over for me when we started losman. No offense to his fans but I didn't expect him to roethlisberger it to the playoffs. In Fairness I didn't expect us to be this bad either. Nor do we have anywhere near the dline talent of the bears or the oline of the steelers -
Reason why Evans had a quiet night
MartyBall4Buffalo replied to ofiba's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The broncos have the 29th ranked pass defense. Champ Bailey is not some shutdown corner. I've seen him repeatedly get burned by the likes of eddie kennison, sammie parker, eric parker, amani toomer among others. Like any other corner he's prone to slip ups. No such thing as shut down. Bailey isn't the reason evans had a bad game. Evans is the reason Evans had a bad game. -
How is it that when the Bills are up 7-0
MartyBall4Buffalo replied to Anon Y. Mous's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Mularkey in pitt rushing offense 1st in 2001 9th in 2002 however in 2003 the steelers ranked 31st. His passing offenses were ehh 22nd in 2001 8th in 2002 13th in 2003. granted the #8 passing offense looks good on paper until you realize they were ranked 29th in ints -
Why is Shaud Williams allowed on the field
MartyBall4Buffalo replied to taterhill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
cause he can block or so I'm told. Shaud Williams is a decent change of pace back, but using this as a reason he's on the field on 3rd down doesn't quite cut it. At some point you gotta say.... "Ok we've done all we can to protect the qb, lets put our best players on the field and go out and try to make a play with them" -
We could be a Turnaround Team soon
MartyBall4Buffalo replied to Mikie2times's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I may be one of the few but I dont think we have to go over expensive on bringing in free agents. I'm a big believer in building through the draft while filling in the rest of your team with quality but not break the bank free agents On the offensive side of the ball I'd like to see LeCharles Bentley brought in. I'd like to see Villarrial cut and Preston put at rg, and gandy moved inside to lg. Instantly giving us a more athletic interior oline and guards who are able to pull unlike fat slob bennie and old man villarrial. I'm not a fan of Jason Peters but if they insist on playing him keep him at rt and draft Tackle Marcus Mcneil from Auburn. He spent his time there opening holes for Ronnie and Caddy he'd be a welcomed addition. He's slipped quite a bit in draft standings, maybe enough to grab him in the 2nd round. None of this is anything fancy but it improves our interior line imo. As far the wr spot goes. I really hope Moulds finishes his career here but it looks grim. I definitly would like Reggie Wayne however I think another good option is either Joe Jurervicius from Seattle. Tough possesion wr who could be a good compliment to lee evans, or David Givens from ne. On Defense. Whether we cut adams or not. Bring in grady jackson we need a space clogger. Jackson is that. Draft ngata re-sign ron edwards. A Rotional system of adams???/jackson/ngata/edwards/anderson would do wonders for our run defense. I'd like to see an upgrade at de. If not john abraham or darren howard. Someone like Raheem Brock would be nice. Kelsay has proven nothing, other then he's just there so we have to deal. Posey is gone and I can think of a hell of a lot worse lb trios then Crowell/Fletcher/Spikes. I wouldn't mind seeing Spikes moved to the strong side as I feel he's a better coverage lb then crowell and would handle the switch better. Tag Clements, cut vincent. Keep Milloy but draft a replacement a secondary of Clements/Mcgee/Baker/Milloy I like, and we have solid depth in the secondary with Thomas/King/Greer. All in all we do have a lot of young talent on this team it's a matter or improving the areas that need improvement and not breaking the bank on skill position players. -
Nate Clements proved his worth last night
MartyBall4Buffalo replied to OnTheRocks's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree Anderson should get time to develop but as part of a rotational system. and not at the expense of taking a day one dt. The pats drafted seymour/warren/wilfork. As well as bringing in free agents to help them. If we draft ngata and go after a grady jackson if we cut sam adams and re-sign ron edwards as he's proven to be good in a rotation system. A dt lineup of Jackson/Ngata/Edwards/Anderson will be a huge step in the right direction -
How is it that when the Bills are up 7-0

As long as we stay the course and bring in the players to fit Mike Mularkeys packages then we're definitly headed in the right direction -
Mularkey Blows Another Opportunity
MartyBall4Buffalo replied to MVJim's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I dont know what's worse that mularkey actually said that or that a 1st half td to only tie the game at 7-7 "took the wind out of their sails" so It's 7-7 let's give up. Nice attitude there directly reflecting the personality of our head coach. The winds out of their sails like the wind blows through mularkeys head one ear and out the other
