You will be happy with Jauron...
MartyBall4Buffalo replied to Gardinier's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Just for argument sake. Who says Losman is our qb of the future or even this year? Losman was Donahoe and Mike Mularkeys marriage. A new coaching staff and levy have no ties to him. I'd look for a vet to be brought in during the offseason. -

With their second third round pick or the their
MartyBall4Buffalo replied to Stl Bills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Brad Smith will last well past the 3rd round, and I sure as hell believe we have much bigger needs then drafting a college qb to play wr. -
Dom Capers could become Bills Coach!
MartyBall4Buffalo replied to firstngoal's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That doesn't make much sense. Some people want jauron.... some want sherman, so they'll agree to settle on dom capers? Sounds like more reporting for the sake of reporting, and no real idea of whats going on. Nothing to see here keep it moving. -
I think it's pretty laughable (I didn't check with ktfabd) that people want to run clements out of town for one bad season, considering how crappy the rest of our team was, and mention replacing him with guys like jabari greer, eric king and kevin thomas. That's just absolutly brilliant to replace a #1 corner with a bunch of nickle backs and #4 corners. I'm sure that'll work out pretty well. Now say we can trade nate clements for the rights to draft mario williams, or acquire a top flight de in free agency like John Abraham. then and only then will it be plausible to let clements go. Otherwise I'd like to keep our 2 good corners on the roster. Terrence Mcgee is a good option as long as someone good is opposite him.

If Jauron is Hired .........
MartyBall4Buffalo replied to Pass the Pipe's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
After seeing some of the people who've been hired recently Jauron would be fine with me. I'd also prefer jauron over a dom capers or jim caldwell. I could live with Sherman/Jauron or Haslett anyone else I'd guess I have no choice but to deal with it, but I wouldn't like it. -
Does anyone feel they know what we got in JP?
MartyBall4Buffalo replied to The_Real's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I feel we have a younger more physically talented version of jake plummer, and it will take a few years for him to reach plummers level of play. The reason I'm not all that enamored with losman is because Of the draft picks we gave up for him. I dont feel the risk will be worth the reward. Losman imo will never be the face of a franchise, but I feel if you build a team with a strong run game and defense ala denver you can win with him down the road, as long as he doesn't become the focal point of the offense. -
Apples to oranges. Jim Kelly came from a much better program at The U, then Losman who came from Tulane. Just because Losman and kelly are the only qb's we drafted in the 1st rd, doesn't mean Losman= Jim Kelly. Losman will never be Jim Kelly. Losman's ceiling is more along the lines of Jake Plummer. He can eventually be adequate but it's gonna take time. I don't think he's a wash yet, cause I dont think he's been given a real chance, but like denver we should be building a run oriented offense around our quaterback, not a pass happy offense around him. Losman will probably never be a great qb. I think his mechanics are too sloppy, and he's rather eratic, but with a lot of work and leaning on a run game and keeping it to a safe throw, take chances every once in awhile system, he can be sucessful. A new coaching staff might not even want him, so all this losman talk is irrelevant.

What would it take to get Jets #4 pick
MartyBall4Buffalo replied to 1billsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree, a lot of his hype came from the fact he's another lb from the U, and was compared a lot of times to Ray Lewis. Vilma was/is a good fit for a herm edwards cover 2 defense. Not overly big, but plenty fast, can cover a lot of ground quickly. Good in space, so he'll make plenty of tackles, and fast enough to drop back into coverage. He's a good lb, but a tad bit overhyped. DJ Williams imo who came out the same year is a guy who I'd much rather build a defense around. I also think Dan Morgan from the carolina panthers another U Allum is a better lb then Vilma, if only morgan could manage to stay healthy. -

Would You Accept Dick Jauron As Bills HC?
MartyBall4Buffalo replied to BillsGuyInMalta's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'd be happy if he was selected, because I think like any coach you can win if you have the talent to do so. Yes the great coaches seperate themselves come playoff time, but if you have the talent and a good supporting staff which is more important imo then the head coach, then you can be succesful. I'd give him the manditory time to try to right the ship, before throwing him to the wolves. -
Why isn't Dick LeBeau being mentioned for HC?
MartyBall4Buffalo replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
it might have something to do with going 12-33 during his tenure in cincy -
Enough of this TO crap.....

the best receiver in the nfl is rumored to be headed to south florida and the miami dolphins, but hey I'm sure we can work something out with hard working josh reed and his big heart edit: for the record I'm not advocating we get TO, because we have way more pressing needs then a wr. However I dont think you can call out people like adams, moulds, clements or mcgahee as "me me me" people. Moulds has been our most reliable player for the past 8 years of his career. Clements wants money, but so would the majority of nfl players aged 25 and in the prime of their careers. thats why they play the game. Adams took less money then what cincy was offering to come here, and and been a pretty decent player for us. Mcgahee I dont understand that either. Is it cause his agent is rosenhaus? I just don't recall instances where he put himself above the team. Maybe if you could point them out I'd see where you're coming from.... -
Bates is a former dolphins dc from 2000-2004. He was their interim head coach at the end of the 2004 season and went 3-4, in their final 7 games. The dolphins players spoke highly of him and even lobied to have him be their hc. As defensive coordinator for the Miami Dolphins the past five seasons (2000-04), Bates' units ranked fifth in the NFL. Only the Buccaneers (281.4 yards/game), Steelers (282.5), Ravens (286.4) and Bills (293.1) played better defensively than Miami (294.8) through the course of those five campaigns. His defense ranked in the top 10 after each season, including 2004, when it ranked eighth despite losing four starters to injured reserve; the team ranked sixth in 2000, fifth in 2001, third in 2002 and 10th in 2003. Against the pass, the Dolphins entered the final week of the '04 season leading the league, but wound up second (162.0 yards/game). Miami's passing defense did pace the NFL in 2001, and ranked fifth in 2000, eighth in 2002 and 19th in 2003. Against the run, his squad did not allow a 100-yard rusher over a 20-game stretch that included the last four games of 2002 and the entire '03 campaign. Prior to his time in Miami, Bates served as the Dallas Cowboys' linebackers coach (1996-97) and assistant head coach/defensive line (1998-99). His first foray into the NFL was on Bill Belichick's staff as linebackers coach of the Cleveland Browns (1991). After coaching the Browns' defensive ends for two seasons (1992-93), he served one year as Atlanta's defensive coordinator (1994), before returning to Cleveland as secondary coach (1995). http://www.packers.com/team/coaches/bates_jim/

Please don't take D'Brick if available
MartyBall4Buffalo replied to marck's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I wouldn't necessarily say that. I think you're assuming bulk= non athletic, and I just dont find that to be the case. Remember during the pats/broncos game they kept saying denver doesn't pass block well. It's pretty much because none of their offensive linemen are good. Pass Blocking is a skill, more important the run blocking, and I'd venture to say that it's more the zone blocking scheme in denver then being good at run blocking. You run left they cutblock down and to the right leaving open holes. It's a dirty tactic, but it works for them. The Chiefs imo are more accurate representation of what a great offensive line is, Big and very athletic. Brian Waters is about as big as bennie anderson but he's quicker pulling, and better in pass protection, better in run blocking, just all around beter. Willie Roaf isn't exactaly mr. fit and trim, and post 30 is still probably the best lt in the game. Just cause you're fat doesn't make you non athletic. It's a combination of being well coached, consistency among your offensive line, and having the talent to play in the scheme. -

Umm bobby april is white Being a special teams coach doesn't make him a minority -
marv levys record pre buffalo 31-42 0-0 in playoffs Dick Jauron 36 49 0-1 in the playoffs Not really a huge differnce, just pointing out. That levy wasn't exactaly some great coach when he first came here. Then he managed to get some talent, and bam he started winning games. Sherman on paper seems the obvious choice, but I just have the bland feeling about him. I know that doesn't mean anything, but when I think of sherman I think of guy who doesn't really bring an idenity with him, who was just kind of carried by brett favre. At least with Jauron you know he's a defensive guy. The biggest thing this team lacks imo is idenity. I'm just not sure Sherman could bring that here. I'm willing to give him a chance though if he's hired.

Last year was their first year with bates and they jumped from 25th in 2004 in total yards allowed to 7th in 2005. I'd venture to say we have better defensive personell then the packers. Bates also did a pretty good job with the dolphins. Other then Donnie Henderson I can't think of many other people I'd be more stoked about having as a defensive coordinator then Jim Bates. -

If thats the case. I'm definitly in the sherman camp. HELL YES JIM BATES. I'm iffy on Sherman, but anyone who will bring in bates has my vote of confidence. -
I may have asked this before but...
MartyBall4Buffalo replied to MadBuffaloDisease's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
with this kind of offensive production how can you not take a serious look at al saunders? You want someone to turn around the offense. Saunders is the obvious answer. I wish he'd get at least an interview. -
Saunders out of that group. Definitly saunders. 1. Saunders 2. Haslett 3. Fasell 4. Grimm 5. Jauron 6. Sherman 7. Capers Thats my order of prefrence. Saunders knows more about offense then any of them. I wouldn't underestimate his ability to bring in quality assistants either. I'm sure Saunders is well connected around the league via Dick Vermeil. I'd also trust saunders more then anyone about improving this oline. He knows that system needs good linemen.
