Should the Bills draft or sign another RB
MartyBall4Buffalo replied to Like A Mofo's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I dont get the lionel gates love. He had a few carries in preseason, and everyone thinks he's an nfl caliber back and can push mcgahee. Theres a reason he didnt get any carries in the season. It's almost like how everyone thought drew haddad was our best wr in preseason and the tory woodbury love during training camp. The Bills shouldnt draft a rb, nor should we bring in a back to split carries. Mcgahee is the type of rb who should get 25-30 carries a game and be the centerpiece of our offense, however it's always a good idea to have a qualified backup, who can come in when need be to give willis a rest or if he gets hurt. Possibly bring in someone like a tony fisher, or rock cartwright, ron dayne, musa smith. Someone who you dont have to break the bank for, but can give you carries and decent spot starter if need be. -

Steve Smith comments on Nate
MartyBall4Buffalo replied to Hirly5's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yet he lists Dre Bly and Deltha O'Neil rofl. Cmon. I know a lot of you want to throw nate under the bus but Dre F'n Blyand Deltha O'Neal get real. I realize a lot of people bit on the Champ Bailey hype years ago, but if that guy was on this team I gurantee we would've ridden him out of town and even packed his luggage for him. Other then this year he was never one to get a lot of picks, and consistnly gets burned on post routes. Baileys career has consisted of getting burned by the likes of Antonio Bryant, Amani Toomer, Todd Pinkston, and now Eddie Kennison. He's a good intermediate range corner, horrible when he has to cover 20 or more yards downfield. Huge tendancy to try to jump routes more often then not guessing wrong. Deltha O'Neal? The guy was thought of so highly by the broncos that shannahan wanted to make him a wr. Top Corner? Hardly. Solid hands bad in coverage. When I look at cincys defense their corners are hardly scary, we pretty much had our way with their secondary. I also like how people bring up chris chambers game as "proof" of nate not being a good corner, Thats nice you can take one instance against the dolphins and spin it, especially after all the times since we drafted nate that he's pretty much had some of his best performances against the dolphins. Nate Clements is a great cornerback, who will undoubtly bounce back as long as we drop this soft zone garbage defense -
Thurman's Chances on Saturday
MartyBall4Buffalo replied to Corp000085's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Thurman should be a 1st ballot lock but I dont feel he will be. I have a problem with someone like troy aikman making it. While Troy Aikman does have 3 superbowl rings his stats are really not HOF worthy. I think when it comes to hof superbowls shouldn't matter stats should, and aikman imo doesn't make the cut. Not in the top 10 in any passing catagory only 1 season of 20+ td's. If Aikman makes the hof then I guess a guy like Mark Brunell in the future should receive consideration. TOTAL | 165 | 2898 4715 61.5 32942 7.0 165 141 | 327 1016 9 |- Aikman TOTAL | 147 | 2576 4334 59.4 30037 6.9 174 102 | 496 2399 15 - Brunell I think it's a joke that a guy like Aikman will be a lock. About Thurman though he definitly should make it. Holds the nfl record for most consecutive years leading the nfl in yards from scrimmage 4 years 89-92. 8th all time in yards from scrimmage. 2nd alltime in post season yards from scrimmage. 12th all time in rushing yards. If someone like Troy Aikman keeps him out as a 1st ballot inductee that's quite dissapointing. -
B'gal's WR flashes his rod

MartyBall4Buffalo replied to stuckincincy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Elite Wr talent and a 10 cent brain. Another case of wasted talent. Chris Henry definitly has/had the potential to be great, and he's just throwing it out the window. What an idiot -
Bills Draft Hisotry in first 3 rounds
MartyBall4Buffalo replied to ans4e64's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
In order to achieve making it to the 2nd level one must first have the blocking necessary to make it past the 1st level. Larry johnson has that, mcgahee doesn't unless you consider That the chiefs line isn't infanantly better then ours, but for your arguments sake Larry Johnson runs of 20+ yards- 19. Runs of 40+ yards- 2 Willis Mcgahee runs of 20+ yards- 14. Runs of 40+ yards- 1 Not really much of a difference. This myth seems pretty much exposed. The Main difference between the 2 imo is the first wave of defenders. While the chiefs oline routinly blows people off the ball allowing johnson to run 4-6 yards before contact Mcgahee doesn't have that luxury. I stand by the same assumption I made during that draft I would've been happy with either rb, but Mcgahee has more upside. Larry Johnson just has the benefit of one of the nfl's best olines. If the situation was reversed Mcgahee would have Priest Holmes Johnson esque stats in Kc While LJ would be struggling here with maybe a slightly higher ypc average do his straight ahead power style vs Mcgahees edgerin james/priest holmes type cut and slash running style. The whole argument of Larry johnson being faster is balloney. -
Compared to our offense now. Our offense during that time was amazing. http://pro-football-reference.com/teams/bufindex.htm 1998- Yards 7th scoring 7th passing offense 12th rushing 3rd 1999- Yards 12th scoring 16th passing offense 22nd rushing 8th 2000- Yards 9th scoring 20th passing offense 9th rushing 13th To reach those #'s on offense now would be quite an amazing turnaround.

Bates Update! He will officially sit out!
MartyBall4Buffalo replied to D' men's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
wow if thats the case. Let him sit out. I would've liked bates to take the job, but someone who's just looking for the fastest ticket out is probably not the best idea. I'm sure theres a diamond in the ruff out there to be found. -
Ken Whisenhunt imo is another Mike Mularkey in the making except instead of having to work with the likes of Kordell Stewart or tommy maddox he has the benefit of a great young quaterback in Ben Roethlisberger. Whisenhunt like mularkey relies on a gadget laden offense. The only difference being the steelers have the oline to run that offense which gives them the threat of a run game, and a credible pass offense, which makes the trick plays possible, just like it did for us during the 2nd half of the 2004 season. Whisenhunt loves the trick plays, and will Mularkey a team maybe the raiders once he becomes a head coach. Without a good enough oline. That offense just doesn't fly.

A QB we should consider
MartyBall4Buffalo replied to Pennsyl-tucky's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
yup he's the guy after rivers and roethlisberger went off the board that I was hoping we'd draft. Instead we gave up 3 draft picks to draft losman. Schaub is gonna be a good qb in this league, and has a chance in atl like you said cause of vicks injury history. We pretty much have no choice other to wait on losman. I hope for the best -
Which Bills Player Would You Want To Bring To A
MartyBall4Buffalo replied to D' men's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Chris Kelsay.... He's country tough and he has a high motor -
Here is a sad offensive stat to ponder.
MartyBall4Buffalo replied to The_Real's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Until people realize the whole oline is crap we'll be stuck in this same positon. Get rid of the qb, get rid of the rb, get rid of the wr... but, Mike Gandy is a good lt Jason Peters would be a great asset to this team as a blocking te ala a jason dunn type player. We could really take advantage of his athleticism using him in this role. As a tackle he leaves a lot to be desired. The fact that he seemed to be our most consistent linemen doesnt speak very highly of his counterparts. Chris Villarriall is getting long in the tooth, and while I think he probably has about 2 years of being productive left, now is probably a good time to look for his replacement. Trey Teague is a good center if he played in a finese type offense. He cant overpower his man. Horrible run blocker, struggles against big nose tackles. If you want a smashmouth offense not the type of center to have around. Lacks the mean streak you expect from the most important position on the oline imo. Bennie Anderson.... fat slob who cant pull on simple counters, or traps. Good straight ahead run blocker, pretty much sucks at everything else. Mike Gandy is an adequate at best starter, and would make a good backup, might even make a decent rg, where you could use him to pull. Still wouldn't start for most nfl teams. Until we prove in the trenches, you can get any qb, rb, wr you want it wont matter. You win football in the trenches. I realize you cant have allstars at every position but a few simple position changes and upgrades at others will definitly improve the line First Mike Williams is a tremendous run blocker. I'd give him another chance at rt. I'd let Duke Preston and Mike gandy battle for the rg spot, I'd sign Lecharles Bentley in free agency instantly upgrading the center position. for lg I'd draft USC Guard Taitusi Lutui An absolute monster run blocker even though he's a rook would offer an upgrade to the immobile bennie anderson. for LT, if a more viable option cant be found in the draft or free agency I could live with Mike gandy for another year. Gandy/Lutui/Bentley/Preston/Williams. Whatever the bills front office and coaching staff decide to do, the most important aspect to offensive line play is continuity, as long as it isn't the same 5 from this year. The biggest problem with the current line is the interior, being unable to pull puts a major damper on your running game, and the ability to pick up simple dline stunts in pass protection. -
Is the Burger King a free agent?
MartyBall4Buffalo replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I dont know. He's been on a lot of different teams lately. Something tells me he's a bit of a cancer and not the type of team player Marv wants here -
MaGahee expected to seek new contract?!!!
MartyBall4Buffalo replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yeah the nfl's all time leading rusher..... what a bum Emmitt Smith was plenty special. No he wasn't fast, but he always kept his legs moving and was a pretty good receiver out of the backfield averaging around 50 receptions per season during his prime Of all the examples you could use this one doesn't fly. He was the face of a franchsise and they built around him accordingly. The guy I'd most compare Willis too is Edgerin James, also not one of the fastest rb's, but is a tough runner, who can also follow his blocks well. The difference being he runs behind the likes of tarik glenn and the rest of the colts oline who have a credible passing game. As far as willis wanting a new contract. I haven't heard this said from either willis or rosenhaus, so to me it sounds like pure media speculation. I'm more concerned with building an oline so we can get the most of mcgahees abilities that other teams get out of their rb's. I dont know what people expect willis to do. Jump through hoola hoops. Not many rb's are gonna do that great when they have a horrible passing offense, and no offensive line. -
Who should start at DE for this team next year?
MartyBall4Buffalo replied to D' men's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Hopefully neither, if we cant get mario williams or kiwi in the draft or a john abraham I'd like raheem brock. -
He doesn't have an opinion. he reads some message boards filled with a bunch of drones opinions, and says "hey I'll have that opinion too, someone else said so, so it must be true" Nevermind that guys like Champ Bailey, and pat surtain were on worse pass defenses, but these two are named frequently as players better then clements. It's all about pass rush in the nfl, forcing the qb to get rid of the ball early, however when you dont have the luxury of that, you have to have corners who can hold their ground from time to time, and stay with their wr. Clements is the total package at cb. and one mediocre year won't convince me otherwise. You'll find no one better in free agency or the draft. Keeping Clements at the price of this years franchise tag is well worth it.

Ok he had a great relationship with losman and......... What exactaly has Sam Wyche brought to the buffalo bills? What revolutionary concept did he help teach mularkey to use? Wyche is/was mularkeys mentor, maybe it's not out of the realm of possibility that he was responsible for some of the ideas mularkey tried with this offense? I dont see this as some great loss, if losman was on the verge of breaking out then maybe, but losmans on the verge of being a pretty big bust. I'll still sleep easy at night.

Top-15 Draft Board.....
MartyBall4Buffalo replied to BillsFanForever19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
1.) Reggie Bush, RB USC 2.) Matt Leinart Qb USC 3.) Mario Williams, DE N.C. State 4.) Dbrickshaw Ferguson OT Virginia 5.) Haloti Ngata, DT Oregon 6.) A.J. Hawk, LB Ohio State 7.) Mathias Kiwinuka, DE Boston College 8.) Chad Greenway OLB Iowa 9.) Marcedes lewis te UCLA 10.) Jimmy Williams, CB Virginia Tech 11.) DeAngelo Williams, RB Memphis 12.) Lendale White, RB USC 13.) Antonio Cromartie CB Florida St 14.) DeMeco Ryans OLB Alabama 15.) Vernon Davis, TE Maryland Noteable subtractions: Vince Young. Vince Young is a tremendous athlete. However the spread option offense doesnt fly in the nfl. I wouldnt want an offense solely built around Young, cause I dont think he'll ever be that good of a quaterback. Michael Huff. I dont get the hype about this guy. Yeah he's got some speed, and well thats about it. He's not a great hitter, and he's not good in coverage. I also refuse to rank a safety as a top 15 player Noteable additions: Chad Greenway... think brian urlacher. Marcedes Lewis. He got of got lost in the shuffle with Vernon Davis. Lewis has the height advantage. He'll be a bigger redzone threat. He has better hands and he's quicker off the line. I also think he work the middle of the field better. Antonio Cromartie. If not for his knee injury before the season would be a no doubt about it top 10 pick. The total package as far as cb's go, knee inury be damned he makes my list. DeMeco Ryans. Kind of gets lost in the shuffle with the other lbs in this draft. Not overly fast, but has a great nose for the ball. Makes plays sideline to sideline. Hell of a lb, and a guy a team can build a foundation of a defense around. -
One whole day gone and so far nothing on Bates
MartyBall4Buffalo replied to D' men's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Its a double edged sword. On one hand if he wants to eventually be a head coach, his best option is too take the bills dc job and further build his rep as a smart defensive coach. On the other hand he can sit out and get another dc job next year, but the odds someone will hire him as a head coach are between slim/none. I cant imagine a gm wanting to hire someone as a hc who's been out of the game for a full year. If I'm bates I'd take whatever job I'm offered right now. -
From a writer at the Senior Bowl
MartyBall4Buffalo replied to PISSCHUNK's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm not a big advocate of dbrickshaw, I think he's too finesse. While he uses his hands extremely well. With him it's all about positiion. He'll never be a guy who can blow his man off the los. It's all feet and hand work. He'll turn you out from a play, but when concerned to run blocking he's not the type to knock you backwards. However it much easier to teach someone to run block then it is to pass block. However I'm hoping he doesnt land to us. Not that I'm scared off because of Mike Williams, just that I think the defensive line is more important at the point in time then the oline. and there will be enough quality olinemen to pass on drafting one in the 1st.
