I am not defending the Bills' draft
MartyBall4Buffalo replied to eball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I wasn't trying to make it Losman vs Schaub some other day maybe. I was attacking it from the angle of having to give up picks for one vs not having to give up picks at the time for the other. Who knows how those picks would've turned out but they could've gone a long way to building a team around our skill players instead of hoping skill players can build a winning team. Im not a fan of trade ups especially when they cost us numerous high picks. You brought up an interesting point about Evans however I dont think he would've made it that much further, and he's been highly productive infact the 2nd most productive wr out of that draft other then fitz. There was a lot of guys I think we could've taken. Maybe Tommie Harris/Wilfork. Oh Well like I said earlier Ya cant go back so nows the time to build a team around the skill players. -
Yes one of my favorite shows on tv right now. Very Well done show

I am not defending the Bills' draft
MartyBall4Buffalo replied to eball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
#1 -- Does anyone in his or her right mind think it would have been acceptable to start the season with either Coy Wire or Matt Bowen as our starting SS? !@#$ No. This was one of our worst positions on defense, outside of the dline. Some of these guys are going to get cut. I believe currently we have FS- Vincent,Baker,Leonard,Rob Lee,KO Simpson. SS- Matt Bowen, Coy Wire, Whitner. No way 8 safeties make the final roster. 4 of these guys are gone. #2 -- Does anyone believe that Troy Vincent is the answer at FS for any longer than perhaps one year (if at all)? I liked the idea of signing troy vincent when we first brought him him to be a stop gap to Antoine Winfield for a team that had a strong defense and being so called "on the cusp" it was a sound decision. However Vincent is aging, and I dont want to say he lacks heart, but injuries players a few years younger would play thru Vincent seems content to go through the motions. I'd keep him around one more year to mentor KO Simpson. #3 -- If I admit that the Buffalo OL underperformed last season, may I also reasonably suggest that the primary weakness was NOT at the two tackle positions? Yeah, and you'd reasonably be right, however that doesnt mean the two current tackles are "areas of strength" either. I know thats not what you were insinuating but tackle is definitly something that has to be adressed. Mike Gandy is pedestrian at best and Jason Peters is far from a finished project. His run blocking is quite porous. I dont know much about Reyes thats wait and see for me. Fowler is an upgrade over Teague and hopefully someone can push Villarrial for playing time as well. This really wasnt any great year for offensive linemen. #4 -- Do the pre-draft signings of Fowler (replacing Teague) and Reyes (replacing either Anderson or Villarial) present the POSSIBILITY of upgrading the prime area of weakness on the Buffalo OL? Basically the same question and answer as above. #5 -- Do any of the Bills' draft picks fail to address a clear area of need on the roster? I would've liked a pass rushing end instead of youboty. I get it Youboty was picked "if" we can't re-sign Nate. However I get kind of discouraged that we always let good players go. I'd hate to see Clements leave especially in his prime. I really hope something gets worked out there. #6 -- Did the Bills "waste" any draft picks on a curiosity (Parrish) or long-term project (McGahee) at the expense of immediate needs? Parrish was a waste of a pick, I still dont get why we drafted him. We had players who can return punts, and Im sure we could've found anyone to be a future slot receiver. Not worth wasting our first pick last year on. You can make the travis henry argument for McGahee but I obviousily wont. Henry will be lucky to be productive in this league ever again, while Willis has shown he is capable. Say what you want but all top tier backs in this league have a good passing offense to open up running lanes. We don't. We also have a poor run blocking line. McGahee showed more what he's capable of doing in 04 when Bledsoe respresented the threat of a passing offense. Holcomb/Losman dont have the respect of defenses to stop teams from stacking the los. McGahee was also poorly used. I know everyone hates to hear this so I want to make it clear. I'm not judging losman but I think we wasted picks taking him. Nothing against him I think he's a talented qb who has had poor direction under Donahe/Mularkey but in the interest of improving the team I would've prefered Matt Schaub and kept picks to fill other areas of need while Keeping Bledsoe at least for one more year, but it what it is. Now I'd worry about just worry about building a team instead of hoping one guy carries us. -
It HAD to be the Dolphins!!!! HAHAHA

The only time I've ever really seen Marcus Vick play was the vt/miami game last year, and he looked downright horrible. It's only one game but I didnt see the suppoused talent -
who needs this type of positive crap. He obviousily sucks

if mcgahee loses weight
MartyBall4Buffalo replied to jdellapelle's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If we get an online that can get any kind of push and a passing offense to move the chains he can put up 1500 yards like every other top tier rusher. -
I dont see why anyone is ragging on fletcher he played in the cover 2 defense in STL. He has experience in the system. This is the same fletcher who ran santana moss down from behind. Fletcher is the last person I'm worried about excelling in this defense. I'm worried more how spikes comes back from injury and who starts at the other olb position then I am about Fletch.

Am I the only one who thinks this draft...
MartyBall4Buffalo replied to BravinSeattle's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Ngata is a fat slob I wouldnt have taken him over whitner even if we were to trade down. Bunkley is the guy I wanted but Im happy with McCargo who fits our defense just as well, and isnt a big of an injury risk as Bunkley. Both will end up better pros that Ngata. Justice has past character issues theres a reason he fell as far as he did. In retrospect taking him at 8 would've been dumb. I would've prefered trading down if whitner was the guy however it's not as easy as goin "Ok lets trade down" maybe they didnt like what they were being offered. Its easy to say pick this guy or that guy but you just dont know. I'll wait to see them play before I start to judge the draft. -
Pompei gives Bills high draft grades
MartyBall4Buffalo replied to shoveldog's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Im sorry but I cant take some of this seriousily Denver Broncos -- D The trade for wide receiver Javon Walker was smart. But they paid too much to get QB Jay Cutler, especially because they need players who can help now. umm yeah I think javon walker can help now and Cutler is for the future. Jake Plummer long term answer? Houston Texans -- D The Texans really should have taken RB Reggie Bush or QB Matt Leinart with the first overall selection instead of defensive end Mario Williams. You cant justify taking Matt Leinart over what will be an all star defensive end. While I also dont think highly of reggie bush Defensive end is a premium position. Elite pass rushers are rare. If you have the chance to grab one then do it. Mario Williams will make a much bigger impact. New England Patriots -- B The Patriots nicely filled needs with their early picks, but my favorite selections were tight ends Dave Thomas and Garrett Mills in the third and fourth rounds. As much as I ragged on the Bills for not having a te. I would be annoyed if I was a pats fan and my team drafted te's every friggen year, or ever drafted a kicker in the 4th rd especially one with a weak leg. there were some others but these were the 3 that stood out to me. I wont rag on grades cause I think grading drafts now is completly pointless, however at least come up with better stuff then "MARIO WILLIAMS OVER REGGIE BUSH AND LEINART LIKE OMG WTF" It just seems like he wrote that in all of a matter of 10 minutes instead of actually using a thought process. -
Youboty has the potential to develop into a very good cb, but it will take time as with any cb. I think Whitner will make a big impact this season and I can also see KO Simpson being pushed into the starting lineup. I wont say Vincent lacks heart but I think he's at that point in his career where he wont fight through even minor injuries. I could see him missing time at some point this season and KO stepping in. I like the potential these draftees have.

Why would Justice Start right away when the eagles have tra thomas and john runyan? for the record I wanted Bunkley but I'm plenty happy with McCargo. he wouldn't have made it past the colts or the giants. We made a slight reach with Whitner but you really dont know where he would've gone I've seen him projected pretty high in some mock drafts. To say clearly trading down is the right move is nonsense. It's not as easy as going "OK I'll trade down" "Ok lets trade up" maybe the bills didnt like what was being offered to them, but go on obviousily cause we didn't draft who espn liked our draft sucked even before we get to see them play, cause we would've been better off with an extra 3rd or whatever and missing out on guys who can fill huge holes on our defense cause draft picks= shiny things

What geade would you give this draft
MartyBall4Buffalo replied to Pyrite Gal's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
1 8 Whitner, Donte SS 5-10 203 3 70 Youboty, Ashton CB 6-0 188 4 105 Simpson, Ko FS 6-1 208 I think they have pretty decent size. I wouldnt want them gaining much more weight especially for the defense they're running. Gaining weight and losing speed would not equate to a good thing. -

Roung 7 (#248) Selection: OG Aaron Merz
MartyBall4Buffalo replied to Oneonta Buffalo Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Aaron Merz Position: OG Class: Sr School: California Conference: Pacific-10 Ht., Wt.: 6-3.5, 346 40 Time: 5.48 Selected by: Buffalo Bills Round 7, pick 40 (248 overall) BIO: Three-year starter at both guard positions. Previous All-Conference selection. POSITIVES: King-sized blocker who can be a dominant force. Plays with good pad level, naturally strong and pushes defenders from the line of scrimmage. Anchors in pass protection and walls opponents from the action. Nasty and always looking for someone to hit. NEGATIVES: Lacks adjustment, not light on his feet and gets tall as the play proceeds. Not considered a hard worker who does the extras. Shoulder injuries have been a concern in the past. ANALYSIS: A former walk-on with the size and intelligence to play in the NFL, Merz is a gifted lineman with starting potential. Must consistently give effort on and off the field. PROJECTION: Undrafted Free Agent http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/football/...yers/47905.html -

Round 5 (#143) Selection: OT Brad Butler
MartyBall4Buffalo replied to SDS's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yup definitely drafting high character guys. This is the virginia tackle that cheapshoted Kiwanuka during the Virgina/BC game http://virginiasports.cstv.com/sports/m-fo.../101005aac.html -
Round 3 (#70) Selection: CB Ashton Youboty
MartyBall4Buffalo replied to SDS's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I just prefer corners who have more size to them. Nothing personal against Mcgee I like him, he has a knack for making plays.I dont think he's as good of a corner as some others though. I never thought about moving him to fs. That's actually pretty interesting though. Mcgee's speed in center field and ball awarness could come in really handy, but I see him as a liability matching up man to man against the leagues better wr's. I mean we could do a lot worse, but if we re-sign nate a little competition never hurt no one, and if nothing else would give us great depth at corner. -
Round 3 (#70) Selection: CB Ashton Youboty
MartyBall4Buffalo replied to SDS's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
So we pretty much traded Travis Henry for the rights to Ashton Youboty I'll take it. Honestly in an ideal situation we'd re-sign nate and let Youboty develop and then challenge Mcgee for a starting spot. I still think Terrence would be best served as a nickle back. -
SVEN IS A MACHINE. I challenge him to hit 200 posts today.

Devin Hester jack of all trades master of none. Best case scenairo: develops into a solid corner/kr. Worst Case Scenairo: Chicago just used a 2nd rd pick to draft a kr.

quote=TC in St. Louis,Apr 29 2006, 06:38 PM] I don't like Mortensen trashing the Bills like that. He and Kiper need to spend less time on their hair, and more on pertinent information. 676102[/snapback] Mortensen almost made it seem like a personal vendetta against the bills. Kiper didnt have a problem with the whitner pick he wasnt thrilled about mccargo.

OFFICIAL NFL DRAFT DAY 2006 THREAD!
MartyBall4Buffalo replied to sven233's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Probably to get Brodie Croyle. The jets are having a very good draft so far at least on paper. If Croyle can stay healthy he can be a hell of a qb.
