Taken from one of the articles: At the time that I published my Week 16 column (results of which were less than great this week), the Las Vegas consensus line was 9. Just because the line closed at 10, does not mean that's where a majority of the money was. So no, you do not have the scenario correct. They didn't want to risk injury by kicking an extra point? Seriously? I am not even saying that I believe all games are fixed, or anything like that, but unusual endings like this, that affect gambling payouts, make you question the integrity of some games. I have no idea what was said, but like I said, it seemed unusual as I was watching it and the outcome of that play made it even more so.

I've been meaning to discuss this since watching the game but haven't had the time. I agree that we have seen this before but it was crazy watching it play out live and feeling like something was going on. The side bar that Carr took with the official prior to the play stood out to me. Things like this may not always affect the outcome of the game itself but they definitely affect the outcome of the game vs the spread.

I was watching the Eagles/Raiders game on Christmas. The game was well in hand for the Eagles when the Raiders went for it on fourth down in the final seconds, with a ridiculous attempt that lead to a fumble, recovered by the Eagles for a TD. Just prior to the play, Carr had a conversation with an official that seemed odd at the time and lead me to believe something was about to happen to affect the outcome based on the spread, turns out I was right. I am not normally the tin foil hat type but it seemed staged enough to make me research the spread after the game and as it turns out MANY gamblers were affected by this outcome. This odd, unnecessary play, coupled with the Eagles decision to take a knee rather than kick the extra point seemed unusual as I watched it and the outcome appears to have helped Vegas considerably. Kind of like the last second fumble for a touchdown right at the very end of the Raiders/Eagles game that I am guessing had a huge impact on Vegas due to the spread. I was watching the game and thought it was odd that Carr had a conversation with the referee right before that play. I am not the tin foil hat type but I thought to myself right before that play that something was about to happen to affect the results based on the spread. I looked it up after and was correct. The spread was between 9 and 10 based on when the bet was placed... Raiders 15th drive: Raiders return the ball to their own 36-yard line with 17 seconds remaining. Carr’s first down pass is incomplete. 14 seconds left. Carr’s second down pass is incomplete after getting pressured. 10 seconds left. Raiders take a timeout. Carr gets pressured and avoids a sack by throwing the ball out of bounds. 4th-and-10 with three seconds left. Raiders try to lateral the ball but they fumble and Derek Barnett runs it in for a touchdown. Lol. Eagles kneel on the PAT to end the game. Eagles lead, 19-10. https://www.bleedinggreennation.com/2017/12/25/16818112/eagles-vs-raiders-2017-live-results-score-updates-highlights-christmas-final-score-philadelphia-nfl

That is the exact scenario I was thinking about. I doubt it will happen, but I DO believe the Chiefs fan base is eager to see Mahomes succeed.

Interesting. I wonder if he creates any QB controversy if he wins decisively...

I guess I just try to avoid the threads like that once they "jump the shark"

In all my years here, I have never seen a locked thread re-opened. Times they are a changing.

You don't think Harrison has a legacy with the Steelers? I do. Your last season with a team doesn't define your career. I agree that it is easy to see why the Steelers let him go (although the timing seems odd) and why he took the new job, but is is a sad end to his tenure in Pittsburgh being used as one of Belicheck's info gathering pawns.

Should Al Riveron be investigated?
buffaloboyinATL replied to ny33's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Just saw a "sounds of the game" segment on NFLN and they showed the referees on the field in our game saying they have no idea why the call was overturned. One of the commentators said the "refs" in NY need to start wearing grey instead of black and white because nothing is black and white anymore when they are involved... -

Agreed, but they are not supposed to change the call unless there is irrefutable evidence. And that was not the case on this touchdown as well as several other ones that I am aware of this season. He is changing calls without having enough evidence to do it and that is beyond the intent of the role. I am bothered by it because of the Benjamin TD but it goes beyond that. Riveron is being given too much power and appears to be abusing it. -

The point is, he overturned a call that had inconclusive evidence to over turn. He over stepped his authority and changed a call on the field that should have remained. He has now done it enough times to question his motives. -

Which is great in theory, until that individual is in the pocket of one owner and destroys the integrity of the league. -

[Vague Title]Gilleslee vs. Tolbert

Exactly. Thread over. Does the OP have an opinion? Do you think we should have overpaid for Gilislee? -
IMO Why the Pats get the Calls
buffaloboyinATL replied to JinxedBill1's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I will stop feeding the troll now but the fact that your only rebuttal is some version of "you have no proof" shows how thin your argument (and knowledge of football) is. Enjoy the status as the team that gets more than your fair share of calls and go celebrate with your other fair weather, unknowledgeable, "fans". It SHOULD be beneath you to troll the message board of a team struggling to make the playoffs but unfortunately success on the field doesn't automatically make a teams fan base classy. Happy trolling and Merry Christmas. -

Leave it to a Pats* fan to endorse cheating! It's the Patriot Way! Lol -

Uh yes, the BS reversal of Benjamin's TD shifted the momentum in the game. And LOL that you think a Bledsoe jersey your parents bought you when you were 5 makes you a true fan! Ha! ? It's ok, enjoy it while the league wants you to win and then go cry in your chowda when it ends. -

buffaloboyinATL replied to JinxedBill1's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yes, because the refs give them momentum shifting calls to impact the outcome of a game. Not ALL of their games are won like that but certainly more than their fair share. And I call BS on you being a fan prior to this run. I've been to some of those games and you "fans" were as fair weather as they come. If you were a true one, you were one of about 12. Now go troll along patsy... -

buffaloboyinATL replied to JinxedBill1's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
They only win as often as they do BECAUSE they get the calls. And when that stops, all of you band wagon fans will jump right off and focus on the Red Sox again. The Pats* fans (who barely understand football) give that team NO support when the winning stops. -
the TT bashing is just so tiresome

It was made more obvious yesterday with Romo repeatedly saying "he's open! Throw it! Throw it!" Or pointing out his missed opportunities in replay. This is meant to be a compliment to Romo by the way. He highlighted how tight an "open" window is in the NFL and how accurate you need to be to hit it.
