Well then I should have the right to download things from my computer for my own personal use. Kazaa isn't illegal last time I checked. That's the argument you are making. It doesn't hold water. It's ok to get a movie from your TV for your own use, but not your computer.

They may do that sometimes but I've never noticed it when watching a movie. I'm not saying you are lying, just that I haven't noticed it.

The result is still the same, the film companies lose money because now that I just taped Spiderman off the TV I'm not going to go buy the DVD.

While that's not a fair comparison I would say that HBO while having legally obtained the rights is hardly granting anyone permission to videotape their feed for later use.

I've never noticed HBO cutting movies down to fit time slots. At the time that DVD's were not available VHS piracy was just as bad. Kazaa, television, it's still a crime. A petty crime.

OK you are correct there. What about network television however? You aren't paying for that.

OK so he's committing two crimes. He's downloading movies from an illegal source. It's much better when you get them from HBO, at least he's getting it from a legal source huh?

They aren't giving up the rights to Spider Man by showing it on HBO. Using my VCR or DVD recorder to obtain Spider Man off of HBO is hardly legal.

OK than why are this mother and her child taking so much grief for his personal use of DVD's that he obtained over the internet? If HBO shows Spider Man and I tape it it's not any different than me burning it off the internet. I'm not distributing it, it's fair game.

Oh yeah I will add that I buy my DVD's at the store. I will also add that I have copied movies from TV before and have plenty of Bills games on tape thus disqualifying me to pass judgement on the original poster or her child.

That's well and good. I mean EVER. VHS included. In your life have you EVER copied something off the television? Movie, TV show, Awards show, whatever. Got any Bills games on tape? If you have you have committed a crime.

Well since everyone is different everyone will have a different reaction to having a beer thrown on them or having things stolen from their house.

Well that's the funny thing Jack, I DO agree with you at this point. I've re-evaluated my stance on assault and understand the different variations now. That's the point I'm trying to make.

I know who they are after. I'm also not the one who started into this kid or his mother either. He isn't running a business, he just wants some DVD's to watch. The movie companies should go after people trying to make a profit off of them. I totally agree.

You see this is what I am talking about. You are saying if I committ a petty crime against you you would put me in the hospital. Ron Artest did the EXACT same thing you are saying you would do to me when a petty crime was committed against him and you think Ron Artest should be in jail. Ron Artest probably will go to jail and probably deserves it, but you saying you would do the same just shows you are no different than him.
