When I went to Corning to see mom in October when we went to the Dolphins game I was listening to WGR driving through the mountains and every caller on the show had written the Bills off (and if I had called I would have done the same) and the argument of the day was "Do you still "care" about the Bills/Fins rivalry even though both teams are horrible?) and most of the callers talked of having sold their tickets to relatives and expressed their frustration in the team as you could expect.
It's hard to believe that 11 games later we are all talking about getting into the playoffs and who we might face. This turnaround is even more suprising than the '98 team that started 0-3 and got in the playoffs. We had seen 4 and 1/4 years of bad football and there was no reason to believe going into that game that things were going to turn this drastically.
Even at halftime of that game I was very upset and poor mother had to listen to me rant and rave. Oh how far this team has come.
In a head to head tie with Denver the second tie breaker (after Head to Head) is conference record, if we win out and Denver wins out they finish 7-5 and we finish 6-6.
In a three way tie, the divional tiebreaker is first and we beat NY by virtue of the common opponent tiebreaker.
The Rams in the dome are a tough team. Martz is coaching for his job, I'm sure they are going to play hard no matter what, but I want them in the playoff hunt obviously.
Well I have to count on that as a win or this is all moot anyways.
I am the LEAST concerned about our game, it's win or go home, I am pay attention to the other games, LOL.
St. Louis needs a win tomorrow night. Their game with the Jets is at 1 pm and the Seattle game is at 4 next week. They own the tie breaker on Seattle because they swept them, so if they win tomorrow night they have to beat NY to keep THEIR hopes alive.
A couple of things of interest.
Dungy has stated that the starters will play but not the full game (as to be expected). I'm fine with them playing some of the game, that may be enough to beat Denver.
The Colts fans are SCARED to death of us. They are all saying the Bills scare the hell out of them and that they want Denver.
That makes me smile
Oh boy did I used to hate hearing that every week. The players would give the standard comment about how they liked Williams and wanted to play hard for him, then they would go out and tank it and show no emotion doing it.
Two things are obvious to me now.
1. Williams was problem number 1 (which I knew anyways last year)
2. Willis is the guy in Buffalo, Travis wasn't the right guy in the RB spot.
Well we could have said that about the Bills (well actually a lot of us did) under Greggo.
Sometimes it's just about the right coach. Coughlin is obviously not the right fit for that team.
I think the best thing I saw today was Drew jumping in the air and high fiving Mularkey after his TD toss to Evans.
Mularkey could very well be the next great Bills coach. He's already a more successful Bills coach than Greggo.
Well it's just this simple, a coach like Coughlin is great when you are winning (see Parcells in Dallas 2003) and when you aren't winning guys can't stand a coach like that. (Parcells in 2004)
I fully expect Buffalo to make a run next year at the division and beyond. The table is set and this team is that close to being that great.
In the long run coming up just short might be perfect, but I want to make it so badly I can taste it
Sometimes it's not all about the playoffs. As a Bills fan I want to win, and I want to be entertained. Last year and the first half of the year were not entertaining, but this team has given us all a reason to "shout" over the last 11 games.
Thank you 2004 Bills and whip some Steeler ass Sunday!!!!
That play did in fact possibly break our season.
Moulds fumbling inside the 20 earlier in the game wasn't a good thing.
It hurt the day I was there at the Ralph and it hurts today in December.
Eckstein will be fine.
What the hell are you going to rip on Eckstein for?
The Jaguars are not a very good team. If not for a push off by Jimmy Smith Buffalo would have already clinched a spot.
