Can Anyone confirm or deny this?
BF_in_Indiana replied to MartyBall4Buffalo's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The only way it makes sense is if we are going to put Nate on the block (which wouldn't be surprising). He's a free agent after this year and he will command big money. We may be able to get ourselves back in the first round of the draft by trading Nate, and then Ty Law could step in for a few years and be our shutdown guy. -
You have an interesting way of looking at free agent signings. All I really care about is if they can hold a block for a few seconds or catch a pass.

[News] V-Coach - Bills sign QB Kelly Holcomb

Well I guess that's what I'm trying to say, what would we really have to change? -

Why would we have to change the playbook for him? The only things he can't do are the QB draws and designed roll outs. -

It's a good signing and goes along with what I said the other day about what I expected the Bills to do in FA. They will fill some minor spots and hopefully replace Jonas. We won't sign a big free agent this year, but the ones we sign will help our depth. -
Grateful Dead Movie on WXXI right now
BF_in_Indiana replied to BRH's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't think the Greatful Dead are a bad band. I enjoy several of their songs and if they were still around I would probably attend a show. Drugs had a great deal to do with the enjoyment of the show for a good portion of the audience however. I type this as I listen to the Wall in it's entirety. -

Yes I have. Meddle is one of my favorite Pink Floyd cds. That would be the type of material you are speaking of yes? -

Well let's compare here for a second. Musically they are nowhere near as good as any of the bands I mentioned. I've heard bands on blues night at the local bar that I think play as good as the Greatful Dead did. That's not a knock on the Dead, it's just that their style of music was so simplistic that it didn't take a whole lot of skill to play it. Now I don't mean that I can pick up a guitar and play it, but anyone with a general skill on guitar or bass or drums could play their material. Visually they don't compare either. When I go to a show I don't just want to watch the band stand there and play their instruments. I want to be entertained. Bands like Pink Floyd were musically stunning and added great visuals to make it spectacular. The Dead does compare to Led Zeppelin though in this category. Zeppelin was never much for theatrics. Just because a band creates a certain genre doesn't make them great. The Sex Pistols brought punk to the mainstream and let's be honest, they couldn't play music to save their lives. I can appreciate what they did for music, but I think artists like Ben Harper appeal to me much more than they do. -

Of course Gilmour did extended solos. But not nearly to the extent that the Dead would. I like guitar solos and drums solos, but not a whole show filled with them. -

Well that's the thing, who wants to go hear an improv every night? I don't want to go expecting to hear "Truckin" and then have them play 15 seconds of it and then Jerry goes off on his own for about 20 minutes. I want to hear the songs I came to hear and not 2 hours worth of extended solos. Personally I think Pink Floyd is the best band from that era. Musically, visually, and overall content is far superior. -

While I won't be as negative as the other poster was, I do have to agree, for the most part they were very overrated. The same thing with Phish. There have been many bands who were far superior to the Dead that came from the same era. Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath just to name a few. -
Ty Law to meet with Bills Saturday?
BF_in_Indiana replied to seq004's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You know what, I think Ty is a good player, I'm not worried about the production we would get out of him, but it's time for TD to stop signing names just to sign them and start signing guys to fill HOLES. CB is not a position we need to address. -
Could we afford that? Most likely. Was he worth that? No. He's on the downside of his career. He's 33 I believe. It wasn't a cost effective move.

The lack of quick free agent signings
BF_in_Indiana replied to BF_in_Indiana's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Well I'm in agreement with you about the switch, it was hypothetical really. I think it would suit our team though, our DL is not our strength. Schobel is better for a 3-4 and we have 3 good LB's. Posey is more effective in a 3-4 and it would hide our weak DE's. -
The lack of quick free agent signings
BF_in_Indiana replied to BF_in_Indiana's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The only position we HAVE to address is left tackle. We have no one on our roster currently who I believe can step in and do a good job there full time. DT is another story. Hell why not sign Ed Hartwell and go to a 3-4? Our strength is our LBs so why not just sign another good one and switch to a 3-4? Then we don't need another DT. -
The teams that are out whoring themselves to free agents are the teams that are the furthest away. The Bills were in that situation a couple of years ago. You are forced to move quickly to bring in a star or two to improve your team. Our signings aren't going to be as dramatic as some here would like to see. We need to try to get this Shelton deal done if at all possible though, we do need a LT and he is going to come cheaper than the guys on the market. If we can sign a G that would also help. DT can be addressed in the draft if we have to, I'm not sure how deep the draft is in that spot though. We still have one very good DT in Adams. There's no rush this year folks, so relax and have a beer or five.

They didn't and don't have to franchise someone every year.

Did Zack Morris get whacked? -
Ding ding, yes Chuck we have a winner!!!!! Jonas was looking to sign elsewhere. That's why TD did not make a big push to sign him. Now, the Pat Williams situation puzzles me a bit, you would think that TD would at least discuss a deal with him.
-
Why exactly would Arizona want to trade for Henry when he is already demanding a long term deal. Does he not understand that he isn't in a position to demand a long term deal? He sat on the bench all season. He has no leverage. He needs to just shut up and play ball for Arizona and earn a new contract like they want him to.
-
Honestly if we can't get a player that can start for us now or a high draft pick, we should just keep him and let him ride the pine and let him walk next year.

The Bills made a smart business move is what they did when they drafted Willis. The lifespan of an NFL halfback is very short. Travis has shown a penchant for injuries already. He seems to fight through most of them, but they take their toll over time. The Bills were just protecting their depth and Travis immediately took that as a "slap in the face" and has whined ever since to anyone that would listen to him. The Bills helped him out when he blew his money and needed a new deal. Sure, they lowballed him, but a smart businessman would in that situation. The Bills have been great to Travis, a lot of teams passed on him, but we gave him a shot. He was an alright player, but a horrible person. Good riddance Travis.

Would you give Arizona a 2nd for Shelton?
BF_in_Indiana replied to PISSCHUNK's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
2 Problems with that idea. 1. Travis won't net us a 2nd rounder to make up for the one we would lose in the Shelton deal. 2. Arizona won't trade him for just a draft pick. -
You might be right, there are still many who feel we can get a Pro Bowler for this guy. He's a mentally challenged trouble maker who could care less about the team and we need to unload him for a box of jock straps if we can.
-
Now? My opinion of him has been the same for quite some time. He's not a team player, and he's not someone I want on this team. I'm not alone in my opinion.
