Your avatar and sig line show pride in your school. Why are you so proud of this pre-determined outcome? -

I agree with all of that except the cancer thingy was just an extreme example, and if I see a kid with a dolphins coat on I beat the living stevestojan out of him and then tell God I feel very sorry. -

Separate reply to the same post: I think we totally agree on this part. My free will post to UConn dude was rhetorical. I believe that anyone that believes in free will has to believe there is a God by definition. Without a God, we are just a bunch of molecules. The interactions between matter and energy, although not fully understood, are finite and can be explained. This would eliminate any possibility of free will. I believe in free will. -

No, no. I'm not that far off from your opinion, just a bit. I think that most behavior has no excuses and that you would probably be right 99.9% of the time in your judgment of a good person 7/24/365 having a better shot with God than a church going jerk. I don't think that holds true 100% of the time. Some people are born smarter than others (not better, just smarter). I'd bet God judges them with that in mind. If you're a nice guy all the time and never hurt anyone but also decide not to cure cancer (even though you can) because you'd rather go to Tahiti, you're sort of like the church going jerk aren't you? Maybe .1% of the church going jerks have to work hard just to go to church and aren't smart enough to understand that they need to bring church with them all week (I think .1% is a high number on this, maybe .0001%). Or maybe these people are just wired so that they are easily overcome by events. My observations are pretty much in line with what you say, I'm just not as sold that I can make a final judgement of who is the better person. In the end, I can only measure myself against myself. Could I have done more? -

Outside of two things I think this is a great post: 1. It is Fake-Fat-Sunny-esque (seems to be a developing trend) 2. I'm not in lock step with you on the areas I bolded. The first part I pretty much agree with, but by no means do I know it. I believe there are many facets to this and those that you mention are just a few. The second part I highlighted is what I disagree with. I think only God can judge who is a better person. Neither you or I know everything about other people (or even about ourselves). What if the best that person could do with what God gave him/her was go to church on Sunday and be a jerk for the rest of the week? He or she may have demons they are fighting that manifest themselves in odd ways. What if you or I was good every single day but we had a God given ability to solve world hunger and were too lazy to work on it? I think there are many levels to this. There are probably more than we understand. -

Which molecule gave you the ability to determine that you are just a bunch of molecules? Do you have free will? If you do, then you must somehow control these molecules. What gives you that power? If you are truly just a collection of molecules then free will is a mere illusion. However complex and intricate the reactions of your molecules are, they would clearly have to be predetermined because molecules react with each other the same way every time. This predetermination would apply to everything that exists. -

That depends on your interpretation of the word belief. A cursory belief or one for the sake of excuses or "get out of jail free" cards is not true belief. One with a true belief would do their best every day to not commit sin. Nobody will completely adhere to this but there is value in the effort. God is not an insurance company. You can't tell him you put 12,000 mile a year on your car when you really drive 50,000. -
Lame Schtick. Try harder.

How should we chenge the election system?
OGTEleven replied to Adam's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Mick, These people in the populous states are "ignored" during the campaign, not during the administrations. Being ignored during a campaign process is not the worst punishment I could imagine. It actually feels like a reward. The candidates are trying to get the votes to win the election. This year's were in Ohio. So what? The concept of each state mattering is valuable to our overall society. If you ask me it has been watered down too much over the years for us to be able to see enough of it. -
An open etter to all you morons.

What is a proud bleeding heart liberal like you doing playing hangman? Oh,the violence. -
I saw some film yesterday that indicated they were in training for the battle. That's probably why.

Except for the "replacing Bledsoe" part.

The quote was about a child born today, not the current life expectancy. Those numbers may be pulled from a butt, but the current numbers have little to do with future numbers.

If you read that link, it says no person shall be elected president more than twice. If Clinton were elected VP and then the prez died, he still would not have been elected more than twice. Clearly this situation is very unlikely, but I think you could easily make a case that running for VP is ok.

I've been disappointed at times that a post of mine didn't receive any response and/or killed a thread (as recently as yesterday). It seems there is an inverse relationship between the thought I put into a post and the amount of response it gets. As a side note, will anyone ever be able to kill this thread just to prove they are the real thread killer?

I read something once that seemed to suggest he could. IT had to do with the wording of the amendment and how it prohibited being elected president, not really holding the office. Do you think he'd only run as 2nd banana if the top of the ticket was a man named Vince?

The moral of the story is: Don't be an KzooMike stevestojan or you're billsfanone.

I missed this new filter. What is the magic word? Nothing will EVER top stevestojan. It's classic. I've actually said it out loud a few times.

Social Security reform this term?
OGTEleven replied to erynthered's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Those darned Ponzi schemes never work. It's a big problem and the longer it gets pushed to the side the bigger it will get (in that sense much like the ME). I hate to over-generalize, but I'd bet if one scintilla of benefit was taken from the baby boom generation they would go collectively apoplectic. I would be shocked but heartened if their me me me attitude waned at all with age. -
Ok, if you're going to support a candidate it would be nice to spell his name correctly. This is not, however, a requirement. Too bad for you that Jon Carrie lost. It is imperative that you get his first name and his last name in the proper sequence. Myself, I wish we could go back to the days of Lincoln Abraham.

Are Hot Pockets really any good (no, I mean really)? My wife is going out tonight and after the kiddies are put to bed, I'm wondering if I should have a PPP inspired dinner. Given my skills in the kitchen, please keep in mind I have many other choices such as Spaghetti-O's, soup, 4 different varieties of cereal, and Ice Cream.

I unnecessarily explained my rationale for voting Bush in the other thread where you posed this question. You did not respond to it. That is, of course, your prerogative. It seems to me though that if you are not going to respond to people's answers, it is a bit silly to keep asking the same question over and over. That is why they call it a dicussion board, right?
