12-28: Media Day - Anthony Lynn's Presser as HC
1billsfan replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think the reason Whaley has not spoke is for the players so that there are as little distractions (after the huge distraction of the HC being fired) as possible because there is a final game to play. If Whaley did have a presser, it would have been the only thing talked about and then you would have players asked to chime in...then franchise drama...blah, blah, blah. Just not what you want to do to the players on the team. The Whaley presser can wait till Monday. -
12-28: Media Day - Anthony Lynn's Presser as HC
1billsfan replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It's interesting to hear the different takes on the press conference. I wonder if some were just listening to it and didn't see it. While he did seem a little nervous, he also came across as a no nonsense coach who has a great coaches "glare"...LOL I think the days of the Bills head coach covering for players' mistakes are over. Lynn would bring back accountability as a motivator for players to do their job. Lynn did about as well as anyone could considering the circumstances. To me, he seems like the natural (and best) choice for this Bills team that IMO doesn't need an overhaul and is ready to win now. -
The fix is in-- Lynn will be the new head coach

^ This. I think the preferred way to operate with NFL head coach hirings is to hire from within when you believe the man is up to the job (see Tampa, Titans). If the front office and players vibe with Lynn, and he seems to have the right qualifications, smarts and temperament to do the job, then that is the much better direction to go then to hire someone from the outside. He'd be my top choice. Lynn would be a nice breath of fresh air after the big "showman" personality of Rex. -
Anthony Lynn: Should he be the next head coach?
1billsfan replied to TallskiWallski83's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm with you on this. I think this team is right on the cusp of a playoff run and just needs to get the defense straightened out and a steady hand on the wheel. Lynn seems like the type of young coach who's a natural fit for the HC position. He has the qualities that you want plus he has youth on his side. I really don't see him as being overwhelmed as the Bills HC. This would keep the offense on an even keel going into next year and if they got a great DC like Bradley then there would be a lot of true optimism about where this team is heading even before the draft. This is definitely not a blow the whole thing up situation. Look at how close they got to the playoffs, imagine if they just fix the defense! -
So here is my question (Offense and Taylor)
1billsfan replied to MAJBobby's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You want bad QB tape? How about watching the QBs the Jets, Browns, Texans, Jaguars, Bears, Vikings, Rams, and 49ers had playing for them. Then come back and talk about how bad Tyrod Taylor is. -

The Broncos won the Superbowl with the 19th ranked scoring offense. With that defense they could do it again with an average QB like Taylor. -

That team can't wait two more years for Lynch to develop. If they get the opportunity to sign Taylor they will take it. -

The Bills will either keep Taylor under the current contract or he will bolt to the Broncos. They wanted him before, they desperately need him now, and Taylor would no doubt like his chances for success much better under the Broncos organization than the Bills organization. It's a big contract, but the Bills kind of have no choice since Taylor is playing very well now and there are zero options beyond him unless they know Cardale Jones can take this team to the playoffs. Just fix the defense and the Bills will break the no playoff streak. Taylor's contract won't look so bad when that happens. -
Anthony Lynn: Should he be the next head coach?
1billsfan replied to TallskiWallski83's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It's ridiculous to assume Lynn is just a clone of Rex Ryan. The man seems very smart, reasoned and sure of himself in the press interviews I've seen. Your last point is laughable. -

I agree. I did want Coughlin, but I've changed my mind because I'd be confident Lynn would do at least as solid of a job as Coughlin so why bother going the "star" coach route again. Especially considering that Lynn's HC career is just starting. You always want to have that happen for your franchise (just like the franchise QB position). Find the young HC that you can have for 10 years or more. IMO, this team is close to breaking the no playoffs streak and only needs a tweak here and there for the right mix of coaches and players to do the job. -
Rapaport: Would Bills promote Anthony Lynn to HC?
1billsfan replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Coughlin HC, Fewell DC and Lynn OC. It's a ridiculously logical outcome which I hope happens. I like Rex. But he's the wrong HC for this team. This franchise needs to become more serious and professional in their quest to get back to the playoffs. The jokes simply aren't funny anymore. They should have either beat the Ravens or Jets at the beginning of the season. I think Lynn will probably stay on as OC if he doesn't get a head coaching job. That's should be good enough "continuity" crowd. -
I've come to the conclusion that it probably really doesn't matter too much... If Taylor gets injured, then they have a base starter option (more expensive than you'd like) before Cardale is ready to play. If Taylor doesn't get injured, then they probably let him go and just sign a veteran QB at a cheaper price who can be the bridge to Jones. Hoyer or Glennon maybe? I think Cardale's going to be the starter at some point next year. The Bills probably do take a flyer on a QB with potential in the fourth round again this next draft. Draft two OL and safety in the first three rounds.

I think that you really need a QB to be able to consistently make passing plays in the pocket. Yes, Tyrod is unique in that he can escape like no other QB in the league. But Tyrod is simply never going to get this team (or any other team) a superbowl win because he lacks that crucial part of his game. I think that part of the defenses collapse in Oakland was that they saw immediately that Taylor was toast as soon as the Raiders woke up from their slumber. The air was let out of the balloon. Yes, this team has other issues, but the main issue is Taylor's lack of being able to deliver results in crunch time against good teams. He does still have a sliver of hope left in running the table and looking good doing it, but he hasn't given anyone reason to believe he can do that.

Thank god Mike Nugent is crappier than Tyrod
1billsfan replied to Maury Ballstein's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It’s getting late early for Tyrod’s career in Buffalo. Just check out his stats (less than 1 TD per game) and try to line that up with the Bills decision to exercise the option on his contract next year. He’s got six games left to make it happen here or the Bills almost have to move onto “Plan B” for 2017. We all are really pulling for him, but he needs to flip the franchise QB switch to “ON” very soon or we will see someone like Cutler as the stop gap to Jones (or a possible QB they draft in 2rd 2 or 3 in the 2017 draft). Taylor does still have these six games though and we all hope he makes it happen because we're no doubt sick of looking for QBs. BTW, I still think Tyrod can lead this team to 11-5 and to the playoffs. I'm an optimist! However, you can't get that down on people getting frustrated at seeing Taylor struggling to take the next step to franchise QB. The Bills will probably beat the Jags, but that Oakland game is a big one for the Bills and also big one for Taylor's career in Buffalo. -
Week 11 predictions: Bills at Bengals
1billsfan replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I predict that Tyrod Taylor finally has his "moment". He got very close in the last game against the Seahawks, and I think that kind of crushing disappointment will push him the rest of the season. Game winning drive for Tyrod today. -
What about Ed Reed as an interim head coach if Rex doesn't start getting this team in gear around the mid point of the season? Even if the playoffs are a lost cause, if this team plays great in the second half of the season under Reed then they would have found their head coach without having to go through the off season search and the 2017 season looks like the real deal to break the long playoff drought.

Ok everybody, LA never said he was Walker's biggest fan. He said that he was rooting for Walker to win the nomination. I'm sure most people here were smart enough to know that my remark was hyperbole. They didn't really believe my statement that you were literally Walker's biggest fan. -

Says the guy who’s been Scott Walker’s biggest fan. The governor who’s had 50 “invite only” listening sessions since December. Oh sure, there's nothing Davidian about that. -

Trump or Clinton, that’s your choice. Being upset about Trump is a waste of time at this point, don’t you think? Unless you’re advocating for Clinton to win the election. If you think we’re screwed with either one, then why even spend time worrying about it? Just go out and have fun while it lasts. -

If someone's willing to say "I choose Ted" after last night, then they should just cut to the chase and say "I'm an idiot". -
A good description of Michelle’s original speech.

Trump simply stated that he was postponing the announcement and then made a simple tweet this morning because Pence had a deadline. Seems like he took the most thoughtful and respectful route of announcing it.
