I don't buy that for a second. They've been waiting for a QB to take them to the next level that Smith never could get to. The poise and readiness were the big factors with Mahomes and he's starting to squash those. There's no doubt in my mind that Mahomes will take Smith's job at some point this season IMO.

He looks completely relaxed out there. I don't think real games will make a difference.

dang, https://www.arrowheadpride.com/2017/8/19/16174792/watch-every-patrick-mahomes-pass-and-rush-from-the-chiefs-2nd-preseason-game Will this be yet another Wilson, Carr, Prescott, Bills didn't pick the franchise QB sitting there situation? Dude's only 21 and he looks more poise than Taylor (12 of the top 14 topics on TSW are on him lol) has ever shown.

Bills fans would all love it, is if when the season started, there was a magical transformation of Tyrod Taylor into a franchise QB, and the offense was looking top five, and the defense was looking top five. We've seen two years of Taylor and the chances of that happening are so small. Maybe there's a good chance the defense comes back to top 10. IMO looking realistically at their schedule, the Bill start off 0-3 (Pats 2x, Falcons) vs the schedule. That leaves them needing to win 10-3 to have a high probability of getting to the playoffs. That's just not going to happen even once out of ten times. So it comes down to the 2018 draft. It's just one of those transitional/building years that this team and it's fans have to go through. IMO, you always need to have that hope that something great could happen, but realize the situation and have reasonable expectations of what this season will be like.
-
You owe it to the players to let Tyrod play himself to the bench. Part of building a team is to have your team's back. Starting Peterman off the bat immediately creates a divide in the locker room, and that just isn't a smart thing to do. Taylor's already had two years, so I would think he only gets the first three games and then all bets are off, depending how good or bad he's playing. They can at least say they gave Taylor a chance, knowing they've already had 29 games worth of tape to judge him as a starting QB as well.

Player reactions: common theme emerges
1billsfan replied to TallskiWallski83's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think the players and regular fans (the non quick-trigger, hyper-emotional ones) of the team were ready to move on from the Sammy drama. It's not the normal kind of drama where the player talks all the time, like ODB, it was more of an undercurrent of drama that just never seemed to go away. Dude never looked happy in Buffalo. -
I do too. I remember hearing about Watkins playing b'ball during the offseason somewhere, and that was certainly knucklehead behavior for a guy who was supposed to be one of the most important players on the team. On a way lesser level, it seemed like Cardale Jones was a knucklehead too for seemingly not really put in the time, effort and passion to make himself better. This is all based off of the lives they live through social media. The new coach seems serious about wanting his players to be seriously "all in" and not take their jobs as Bills players so nonchalantly.

Bills' OC: Tyrod Taylor 'can't wait for a route to open up
1billsfan replied to Meathead's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Taylor has had 29 starts in his career and I can't remember one "signature" win other than the win against the Titans a couple of years ago, and they were not a very good team. Start watching the QBs in college football this year. That's where the future QB is coming from. This year's hopes will ride on how good (or great) their defense will be. That's the only way you beat the good teams with an average QB in the NFL. -
Jeremy Maclin (Agrees to 2 year deal with Ravens)
1billsfan replied to BillsDiehard's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It not about numbers with Taylor. It's the lack of "signature," "put the team on your back" big game wins. Trent Dilfer happened a very long time ago. Taylor must prove himself this year that he's a franchise QB, and regardless of the numbers, most everyone will know one way or the other. -
You're right...LOL
-
He's 6"1" and solidly built, so the height thing seems pretty nominal. Carr and Prescott are only and inch taller and he's taller than Brees, Wilson and Taylor.
-
Buccaneers game is a win???? That team went 6-8 to end the 2016 season, their defense became very solid, and they just added Howard and Godwin. I think they're going to the Superbowl next year and they will beat the Bills rather easily IMO. The Bills also have a slim chance in the Saints game going against the sure-to-be HOFer Brees. They certainly won't be favored.
-
This ^ The ship seems righted and they have a 2018 first round pick in their back pocket in a draft that's being looked at as one of the best QB classes ever. I'm pretty good with the team right now.

Foster had a shoulder injury, history of concussions. That isn't even counting the drug test and the not understanding a written playbook stuff. How many red flags do you need? There are things there that will take him off an NFL field at any given moment for weeks.
-
This is the clearest example of the reason why.

The league moves much faster than it did years ago. Teams and head coaches don’t have the time nor patience for players to get it together and mature anymore. If you don’t have an elite QB, you’re basically always one year away from getting fired for a bad season. I’m kind of guessing you’re somewhat referring to Peterman over Kelly. I’m sure that McDermott simply doesn’t have the time to babysit him or bring him along the right path. He wants players that he KNOWS will show up on time, are ready and willing to learn, and lay it all on the line. There’s nothing concerning about it. It’s smart. Maybe if the team was on the verge of a Superbowl challenge he would bend this rule for the right player to put him over the top. But not now.

Chiefs fans are laughing about the trade.
1billsfan replied to Klaista2k's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Their schedule looks pretty tough and now their starting QB has been told they don't want him anymore. They certainly could be heading for an 8-8 or worse season. Team disunity or discomfort is never a good thing in the NFL. -

Did anyone else get the feeling that the pairings of QB to teams was off? I thought of that "Love Stinks" song looking at Mahomes on the phone with the Chiefs. IMO, he looked like he was crushed that he wasn't going to the Texans. It's one of the reasons why I was getting hesitant about the Bills drafting him. Yes, Jim didn't want to come here, but that was in a whole different era. Teams didn't give a you-know-what and the player would just have to suck it up or do something else. I thought that Trubisky should have gone to the Browns because it was the natural fit that should have been, and I thought that Watson was just a more natural fit for the Chiefs. Now they have a guy that probably wanted to be somewhere else. When the Bills do finally pick their franchise QB (no doubt 2018, unless Jones takes over the 2017 season and locks it down), I want it to be a slam dunk, guy wants to be here, is happy to be here, and is ready to big a big part in ending the Patriots dominance of the AFC east and conference. -
2017 NFL Draft: Round 1 discussion
1billsfan replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm sure it was the best they could do, they let the Texans know (they clearly wanted Mahomes/25th pick) and they would not do better than the Chiefs. Bills are going all in on the QB class QB next year. -
Official First Round Hopes and Expectation:
1billsfan replied to Bill from NYC's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Hoping for Mahomes or Watson. Would be ok with Howard, Davis, Reddick, or a trade down with a 2018 1st rounder in the deal. -
It's not a shot, it's a fact that Foster has had concussion problems. Don't be upset that I felt like sharing that nothing will change until they find a QB, and they probably won't ever find that QB until they spend a high pick on one. This is the last day to say who you want them to take and you can't ever start a new thread around here without someone getting upset. Everybody needs to relax because no one here has any say as to what they are going to do.
-
Foster has had concussion problems, so with his style of play you can never count on having him from game to game due to the concussion protocol in the NFL. They would be fools to pass on both Watson and Mahomes. Both guys are going to become franchise QBs and you'd eventually be adding them to the list of QBs that got away like Rodgers, Wilson, Carr, Prescott. Time to take another shot at the most important position.
-
I'm wondering if the Cardinals have Watson as their guy and will jump ahead of the Bills to make sure they get him. Carson Palmer's brother has been training him for a long time now, Arians said only one QB in this class is ready to start right away (34 starts right?), they haven't been shy about talking up Mahomes which make me think that's been a "head fake" all along. Think the Cardinals starting QB (and the team) doesn't have a huge insight into whether Watson is the real deal as a franchise QB by now?
-
Yeah, I flirted with the dark side of going safe, then I thought why the heck am I picking an LB when I have Tyrod Taylor as a starting QB, Jones (who I don't know if he loves the game or takes his job very seriously), and then I have tumbleweeds. Really? Got to get a QB in here, the position is too important and this franchise can't wait till next year to do it. Give this franchise some hope and a face of the great era that's on the horizon. If the guy goes bust who cares, they aren't going anywhere anyways without a QB...so is it really a risk at all?
-
I think I'm getting back on the "pick a QB" train...LOL I watched a few interviews today of Mahomes and Watson and both guys are very impressive and I can definitely see them leading an NFL offense for years to come. I don't think I could pass on either guy and if they were both there I would have to go with Mahomes because of his arm. If Wentz and Prescott can make it, I feel confident both of these guys can make it too. Especially with a full year of learning. We have the bridge QB in Taylor, let's not waste anymore time, or keep wringing ours hands about EJ not working out, or anything like that...just do it!
