People arrested for drinking
Cheeseburger_in_paradise posted a topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
This strikes me as interesting. A new way to achieve prohibition? Can't drink at a hotel bar even if you are staying there and not driving anywhere. If the only place people will be allowed to drink is at home, how long before big daddy wants to arrest people there too? Is it about legislating morality, or is it about getting more people in the system? More jobs for cops, jailers, judges and lawyers. Prohibition? -
6 month jail sentence changed to 5 years

Then we'll just have to disagree. Of course, you are part of the system. -

Cheeseburger_in_paradise replied to ch19079's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
So you double it. A year. Not five. I've said it before and I'll say it again. Putting the death penalty on double parking, does not fit the crime, and won't ultimately cure it. There is a strong force at work in America, that wants more people in the system, for the systems sake, and not societies. Is my point. -

Another example of how the system is continuing to get out of hand. I predict penal colonies in America in my lifetime. -
Get busy 'tween the sheets, Libs!

Okay, here's the plan: Back off and let those men who want to marry men, marry men. Allow those women who want to marry women, marry women. Allow those folks who want to abort their babies, abort their babies. In three generations, there will be no Democrats!!! I love it when a plan comes together. -
Any Soda Drinkers Out There?
Cheeseburger_in_paradise replied to Bill from NYC's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Actually, nutritionists say some forms of sugar are worse than others. "The main sweetener in soda - high-fructose corn syrup - can increase fats in the blood called triglycerides, which raises the risk of heart problems, diabetes and other health woes." It's cheeper than pure sugarcane. High-fructose corn syrup is in all kinds of things, including ketchup, I think. I still have a difficult time identifying with people who get up in the morning, and live to figure out what else can be taxed. -
You're right, it's the media!
Cheeseburger_in_paradise replied to TPS's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Sure the media biased. But they are also stupid. If someone in the press were smart, they would be pointing out the fact that not only did Bush not address the levee situation, or the fact that NO is sinking an inch every three years (THAT'S TWO INCHES ON HIS WATCH). But no one is mentioning that the ocean is also rising at this time, because of global warming. Global warming is especially Bush's fault even because of he's an evil oil man and stuff. -
William F. Buckley
Cheeseburger_in_paradise replied to Mickey's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Exactly, just like everywhere else in the world where America puts brave people in harms way (in other administrations even more so), for America's interests and safety. On this very board, we're even concerned about the south pole, or the curvature of the earth. Who are you trying to impress? Your rants are for argument only. Not to be taken seriously. -

Typical. Liberal. When he says we, or blames the western world, he doesn't mean himself, of course. An attempt to absolve himself, for some reason, in my estimation, of some imagined collective guilt. Crazy, not logical, but quite common. Mankind continuously proves how capible it is of doing terrible things. Eveywhere. But the KKK was not involved in this, as far as I know. -
True. He didn't have to lie. But he did. Oh well. By the way, I have no idea, so maybe you know. Is there a law against drinking and hunting? We don't know that he was or wasn't drinking, by the way. Is there such thing as a HWI? Violating FISA? I don't know what that is either, so I'll have to get back to you. I won't automatically assume that it's more of your red team blue team partisan bluster.

Clinton was impeached because he was a president, and an officer of the court, who violated a couple of sacred oaths in the course of a trial. It is that simple. He was not impeached because of sex. Having the ability to stay firmly on planet earth and recognize that this was a hunting accident, not some kind of conspiracy, does not make someone a butt-kisser. Maybe you are taking this so personal because the guy he shot was a lawyer?

New Subject?
Cheeseburger_in_paradise replied to Ghost of BiB's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Interesting to speculate about. I think these are the two front runners right now. You'd have to wonder who the republicans would put up against them. Jeb's not going to be hot, because I think a lot of Americans are ready to not see a Bush name for a while. I still think McCain has a better shot at the Whitehouse by staying a republican. Yep, it's time to start thinking about 2008. -

Louise Slaughter - Fairness Act
Cheeseburger_in_paradise replied to OnTheRocks's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Exactly. That's what it was supposed to be about. There was a time when people in this country could only get one or two TV stations, or just a couple of radio stations. Control of the airwaves was a concern. One could argue that there were more radio stations, even back then, than there were newspapers, but somehow the equal time thing only affected broadcasting. It's different today. Our choices for news and opinion are large. Cable, Internet, ETC. We even have satellite radio now. She just wants to squash the pundits, BECAUSE most of them are conservative in ther views, not liberal, and they don't help the democratic party. Excellent point about the Communications Act of 1996. -
Louise Slaughter - Fairness Act
Cheeseburger_in_paradise replied to OnTheRocks's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Sure...it's dumb. The only possible reason for it would be to silence and harrass ones critics, or political opposition. That's how the Fainess Doctrine was used in the past, and partly why it is gone. -
I don't agree with a lot of what I read here
Cheeseburger_in_paradise replied to Adam's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Came here at first because I got info from another board that this was a good place to get the low down on the Bills. PPP caught my eye and I stayed purely because I was amazed at the dynamics of it all. Fresh ideas? Some, maybe. But 99 percent self serving crap, mostly. God, I need a life. Lets hope our leaders get better information than what is here. Or we are doomed.
