US kids getting hammered in Math and Science
_BiB_ replied to Gavin in Va Beach's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Very true. So why make an extra effort to push it? I'd be curious to see what would happen if the school wanted to have a "Military Recruiter Day". -

What does this fall under? Social Studies? Maybe it's science. I'm actually curious. What is the "brand" header for putting out this type of information? -
I'm actually closer to a whiny grandparent.

Why? Is Rich coming too?

Not exactly country, more of something like "Bluegrass Fusion"- I stumbled across a band called Nickle Creek. If you ever get a chance, give them a listen. Very talented and creative.

The last time I said I didn't like Rap I was called a racist. I guess if I didn't care for Rosannes version of the National Anthem, I'm a commie too.

But at least everyone got to see your new avatar. -
My dog's bigger than your dog. My dog's bigger than yours. My dog's bigger 'cause he eats Kennel Ration, My dog's bigger than yours. Debbie, I like ya, you know I do, and believe it or not I think about you now and then hoping you're doing OK- but this is not your subject. Who are you going to convince besides everyone who already agrees with you? Take it to the politics of Seattle. You have found a true home there, it sure ain't Texas, is it? I'm sure you get plenty of reinforcement there.

Oh, shut the !@#$ up. You're confusing our train of thought. Not to mention our argument. What were we talking about?

I already know I shouldn't have bit-because you are prodding the bear-but I have to quote you here. You have NO IDEA WHAT THIS SITUATION IS! You have this articles partial information and spin. Anyone who does jail time in the military has done something pretty damn wrong. It's VERY unusual, unless it's akin to a civil crime like grand theft, rape, murder, drugs, etc.. I think it's very, very unlikely that this is the entire and accurate portrayal.

You know so little of some things that it absolutely amazes me sometimes. Either that, or you are pulling a typical political sham and taking 3% of a situation and making that the whole. That might work on the campus where folks have the luxury of changing the world, but except for rare instances it's quick death in combat. No one is taught not to think. They ARE taught that they are part of a team and are expected to carry out their role when directed to do so. My analogy would be having a football team made up of players who are expected to always have good ideas of their own no matter how the play was practiced. The quarterback expects a guy to go left, but he questions the status quo and feels the better way to do things is go right. Loss of 6 on the play. You would have a military manned by blzruls and Ice's. Better ideas are almost constantly discussed and assimilated when the conditions aren't as intense. I've been on both ends. When I was a young soldier and I figured out a new way to do something, and it made sense, my leadership most often incorporated it. Later, when I led soldiers I very often integrated their ideas into what we were doing. Don't confuse obedience with discipline-although for you that's probably an easy thing to do.

I'll give you the benefit on the 40,000 years, when I get a chance to look up-I think actual homo sapiens go back much farther. Still, how can you equate Australopothecus to Cro Magnon in less than a couple million years? That's the paleobiological equivalent of going from steam power to space flight in 10 years. Even WITH accelerated development.
-
So, you are putting forth the idea that this applies to human developmental evolution?

How good are you at sports!!!!!

You have to wonder. Just wait until MB is mayor again. Maybe they can work real hard and lose the Redskins too. That should be good for some "programs". The school system could use a few more S130,000 janitorial supervisors, don't you think? DC politics is like watching some bizzare game show. -
Oban would be a decent compromise.

I had a bad feeling when the council voted to postpone the vote-ala Cropp. People think Congress is F-d up. Some DC politicians saw this as a potential windfall for their own pet rocks. No pet rocks? No baseball. -

What's the local take. I'm out of town right now. Cropp, I think, is the mouthpiece for the little consortium that's had it in for Tony since the aforementioned downtown initiatives. It also wouldn't surprise me that the Orioles are playing in there somewhere, even though he was going to get comped. -

I think there was a backup idea to place them in Virginia, but (help me out here) it was still predicated on a guaranteed public-financed stadium deal, so the timelines could be met. -

Should this come to pass, for all those who insisted I was dead wrong and this wouldn't happen- The fat lady wasn't on the stage. This is DC politics at it's finest. A lot of the wards were very po'd at what the mayor got done in downtown development, and were waiting for a chance to screw him. -

Has anyone considered that a lot of kids don't like math and science, let alone school period, and people don't push them like they used to? -
I'm familiar with the discoveries of the pre-hominids, as well as the evidence of tool usage far prior to what anyone suspected. This really doesn't have a lot to do with the surface debate. Paleontology has demonstrated that there have been evolution spurts and evolutionary lulls. Why did certain dinosaurs survive the entire Cretacious period, and man evolve from basically a crossed monkey/squirrel-like being 7 million years ago to what we have now? If science itself is to be accepted as gospel, there was a relatively very short period, I believe in the Cambrian (I'm not googling right now, GG made enough today) period, where basically aquatic life forms divested into a variety of land animals, insectia and amphibians. Rapid evolution-then followed by a relative lull, once again. Following the fossil record, man went from whatever to modern in six million years. Why did many other life forms change only some, very little, or not at all?
